This is the new Kahn location.

I would like to give this place he benefit of the doubt. I have never eaten at Kahns before, but I've heard it mentioned from time to time. As I walked in, I was greeted by a very nice host. She was eager to show us the ropes and asked us if we had been to a Kahns before. We said no, and since the restaurant was practically empty at the time, she walked is down the line and explained the different colors bowls (green for veggies, red for meat). She did give us a warning that if the bowls were overfilled, we would get charged extra. Good to know. It feels like a buffet style, but it isn't. You get in a line, put veggies and pasta in a large green bowl and meat in a small red bowl. Everything in the bowl is raw. You then take your two bowls to a seasoning section and apply the seasoning you want. All things have explanations as to how it will affect its preparation. Upon adding seasoning, you then take your bowls to a giant kitchen area where several visible cooks will take your bowls and cook them for you. You will get asked what kind of oil you want first. A menu high up in the wall will show you the options. Then, towards the completion of your cooked meal, you will be asked what kind of sauce do you want. Again, refer to the menu for the sauce varieties. My pasta was undercooked and some of it was soft while the rest was still crunchy. It wasn't cooked long enough. The meat was great, though. O asked for olive oil and sweet orange sauce, which made my meal sweet. Personally, it was too much sauce that they put on their. Had I known, I would have said, "easy on the sauce." A second reason for the star deduction is that I was taking pictures of the food and menus for future Yelpers to enjoy and plan ahead of time. However, a manager approached me and told me I couldn't be taking pictures. He then wanted to know why I was taking pictures. I told him it was for a Yelp review to bring more awareness to his restaurant. I asked him if he knew what Yelp was. He said yes, but that if we wanted to take pictures that we needed to contact corporate. I found that odd, but it's not my business nor do I manage the place, so I was respectful enough to follow suit. I may give the place a second chance. Hopefully, my second meal won't include undercooked pasta.

Cleanliness 5 Ambience 4 Food 4 Service 5 Price 4 You can never go wrong with Khan's. The service is friendly and very helpful. The food, especially the meats could be a bit more fresh than covered in icicles. They are keto friendly so this certainly helps you. However I get food tossed from another customers meal when put on the grill. It is inevitable. I certainly enjoy the chili garlic spice that they add to the meal.

What can I say? Khans does it right every time I'm in the valley. Delicioso! Fast and friendly service. The grill masters always do a great job. Both efficient and entertaining. And I always leave with delicious leftovers. So much food on that one little plate. Be careful with the chili garlic. It's got a bit of a kick to it.

Khan's Grill is and has always been a great spot to grab a great freshly cooked meal. I'm a big fan of their "prep-it-yourself" style of dining. It might take a few tries before you put together a mix you'll enjoy. This is how it goes: First you grab two bowls; one for your pasta and vegetables, and one smaller one for your meats. Fill both to the top with whatever you'd like but don't overfill to avoid extra charges. Second, you make a quick stop at the seasonings station. Here you add the flavor to your creation. Choose from curry, pepper, garlic, lemon-pepper, paprika, sesame seeds, peanuts, fajita mix, etc. Then, you head on to the grill and place your plate on the numbered spots of the grill countertop. There the friendly cooks will ask you for what type of oil or butter you'd like and which sauces you want on your platter. From here, it's all down hill as you choose from fried or steamed rice and wether you'd like to eat in or to go. I'm always satisfied here at Khans Grill. It's easy to recommend a restaurant like this one. Will keep inviting friends here for dinner and lunch.

Where exactly is Mongolia? I am not the best at geography but I wonder if they have Mongolian grills on every corner and if so, I think I need to go visit. These kind of places are very hit or miss due to quality of vegetables and meat. Khan's has never disappointed. I like that they give you two different bowls (one for veggies & one for meat). The choices of vegetables is endless and always fresh. Even the meat they offer ranges from turkey to tofu. Right before you get to cooking your food, there are tons of spices that you can add (and peanuts which give the food a lil crunch so make sure to throw some into your bowl). Sauce choice: get "house" no question. It comes with a combo of sauces and you choose how much chili-garlic you want in your food. You get fried or steamed rice and then this buttery/toasted roll on top of it all. The cooks & waitstaff are always friendly, fast and efficient which makes the experience that much better! Thank you Mongols (I think) for inspiring the idea of these Mongolian grills and Khan's for perfecting it.

This place was unexpected and amazing. My coworker and I stumbled upon it accidentally while trying to eat at the next door restaurant that was closed. What a find! It's located in a strip center and doesn't look like much. When you walk in, you're given instructions to take one white bowl and one red bowl and fill them at the salad/meat bar. The white bowl is larger and used for noodles and veggies and the small red bowl is used for raw meat and/or fish. Once each is full, you add spices to it then take it to the "bar" and the watch the guys cook it, Mongolian style. They ask you to pick an oil and then sauces and once it's done you can add either fried or white rice and a roll. It's a TON of food and only $8! The place reminds me of "You are cooks" where you basically make your own plate but watch someone cook it. It was delicious, cheap, and fun. I HIGHLY recommend going here!

I love Khans but this one wow. Didn't get greeted and attended right. The host/lady had attitude plus our server took a long time with our drinks we ordered water which is not that hard to get. Also it wasn't that busy for her to take long. Furthermore as the cook handles me my food I see that it's a little burned. I was like okay let me try it before I say it's burned. After I tasted my food I'm like no all the food was burned I didn't want to say anything to anyone so I just left my plate and paid. One things for sure not going to recommend coming to this Khans. I recommend going to the one Weslaco.

This is one of my favorite places to eat a good and a filling meal! I like to go here because I can select what food items I want in my meal. I also never get told that I am putting to much in my bowl even though I know I might overdo it a bit sometimes. They have different noodles to select from and also a great selection of meats such as chicken, turkey, fish, shrimp, meat, sausage, and shrimp. Also when it comes to the sauce you want on your meal they have a great selection of flavors to make your meal different every time you go.

If we had been able to hang out longer, we would have enjoyed the patio/bar area. Maybe next time. If there was a negative, I would ask them to use something else for the paper on my tray. My paper was soaked through to the tray which is not appetizing to me. Perhaps butcher paper or parchment paper would solve the soak.

We chose a seat & the waitress came over with menus, we asked a couple of questions regarding food/drink (tea, potato salad & brisket chili) items & was told she didn't eat/drink those things so had no opinion/knowledge. Needless to say we ordered a 1/2 lb of both brisket & beef sausage, potato salad & brisket chili & 2 unsweetened iced teas. The brisket was closer to a slow cooker pot roast than smoked brisket. The potato salad I'm pretty was Reser's potato salad from the premade section at Walmart. The brisket chili had burger meat rather than pieces of brisket but it tasted ok. The beef sausage was the best part of the meal but it was just ok. The tea was terrible & tasted old. Our waitress was lacking in customer service granted she was working the bar with maybe 2 people in the area. Will we go back probably not.

It's the best I've eaten here in the RGV and coming in a close second to City Market in Luling, TX. It's that good! This visit I decided to try their Three Brisket Combo meal. It comes with three brisket tacos (corn or flour tortillas) loaded with brisket, a couple grilled jalapeño slices, grilled onions and some cilantro. They didn't need salsa but a squeeze of lime might've been helpful. The side I chose was their house made coleslaw which was pretty tasty. I ordered their green beans with onion and bacon but a few minutes after ordering a fellow came out to tell me they were out of the beans so I settled for the slaw. I also ordered an order of their house cut, tallow fried french fries. Man, were they GOOD! As in THE BEST FRIES I'VE EVER EATEN IN MY LIFE GOOD!!! They are worth the visit all by themselves. The combo meal comes with a bottomless drink as well. The wife and I split the Combo meal, added the fries and a small side of potato salad that she wanted. We each ate one taco and about half of the sides. So we had a leftover taco, some fries and half our sides for the next day. All for like $21. The combo meal is $13.99 which is a pretty good deal in itself. The fries were like $6 and well worth the price. We will definitely be back. I would also highly recommend their 50/50 Rice and Beans topped with Brisket Bowl. That provided two meals for me when I ordered it previously. You can't go wrong at this little joint.

Every time I'm back in the Lone Star state, I need to get my fix of 'cue since there is some essence that gets lost when the art of "slow and low smoking" of meats leaves the Southwest and migrates East and North of the Mississippi River. And for sure, it's difficult if not damn near impossible to find decent barbecue in the DC area. For an establishment that has been in business for over 15 years (since 2009), 492 BBQ has a criminally low review count. So allow me to add my ringing endorsement for some of the best 'cue you can find in the Rio Grande Valley. 492 is a not a fancy restaurant with tile flooring and multiple dining areas which have various seating configurations. But the place is clean and well lit, which is always appreciated. I was warmly greeted by the hostess and shown to a table, where my friendly server Christina suggested the three meat platter. Any good TX 'cue joint is judged on by one cut of meat and that is of course, brisket. The brisket at 492 is superior! There is a thick bark resulting from hours of slow cooking over mesquite wood coals. And you won't need any of the slightly sweet sauce on the table, since any good brisket can stand on it's own with just salt, pepper, and smoke. The ribs were also tasty, although I slightly preferred the pork vs. the beef short rib cut. Both the pork and beef ribs were "fall of the bone" tender, but perhaps I just like the texture and taste from the fattier pork. Both versions were still darn good. Sides were delicious...of course. The Mac and cheese was made in-house and from scratch ingredients. It was creamy, well seasoned, and didn't have that artificial taste or weird fluorescent color from box mixes. I'm glad I went with Christina's recommendation and tried the rice/beans combo. I've not sampled something like this, but the slow cooked pinto beans were added atop fluffy rice to make an almost "stew like" dish with pieces of meat mixed in. Really good! Service was attentive throughout the meal with water glasses being filled when empty, and take home boxes offered since there was waay too much food to be consumed at one sitting. My 3 meat sampler, with just water and no dessert, came to about $28 with tax and tip. A bargain really since I had the other half of the meal for lunch the next day.
