Uncle Roy's special. I finally got a picture

I really like this place. I first tried it out because I bought a bbq ticket for a fundraiser. It was the chicken plate which includes a leg quarter, rice, beans, potato salad, and 2 slices of bread. I was surprised at how juicy the chicken was and how tasty the sides are. The potato salad is so good! I enjoyed it so much I went back today and got the same plate for $5.95. I totally recommend this place. It's inexpensive and very very good! They even have a drive thru so you don't have to get off. I wanted to take a picture but I forgot. :(

here is the awesome brisket baked tater I was served!

Pretty good BBQ, but perhaps not too memorable. Sausage was excellent though, and would be a great business for catering large parties.

Our first time trying Smokin' Moon BBQ & sorry to say it was just okay. Our visit was on a Friday…read moreafternoon (2 pm) there was only a couple of tables with customers so it was quiet with ladies soccer on the tv's. We chose a seat & the waitress came over with menus, we asked a couple of questions regarding food/drink (tea, potato salad & brisket chili) items & was told she didn't eat/drink those things so had no opinion/knowledge. Needless to say we ordered a 1/2 lb of both brisket & beef sausage, potato salad & brisket chili & 2 unsweetened iced teas. The brisket was closer to a slow cooker pot roast than smoked brisket. The potato salad I'm pretty was Reser's potato salad from the premade section at Walmart. The brisket chili had burger meat rather than pieces of brisket but it tasted ok. The beef sausage was the best part of the meal but it was just ok. The tea was terrible & tasted old. Our waitress was lacking in customer service granted she was working the bar with maybe 2 people in the area. Will we go back probably not.

My husband ended up getting a burger, he said it was really good but we definitely want to try a bbq plate next time. We sat at the bar to grab a few drinks with our lunch. The bartender was super friendly, attentive, quick, and made sure our drinks stayed full. Restaurant was clean and smelled nice, I definitely recommend trying them out!

So FUCKING good. As a lover of Felice, I can't believe it took me this long to try Teddy's. The…read moreribs were my personal favorite but we got a little bit of everything and it was all individually it's own experience. Definitely tops a lot of other barbecue spots in Texas that also come with 2-3hr waiting times so having this in my hometown is awesome. It's pretty tightly packed in there especially during rush hour but having a full bustling house adds to the lovely feeling of eating Texas barbecue in this crazy heat. Wish I could have tried the mac and cheese but it always gives me a reason to come back!

Teddys BBQ: A Disappointing Experience Unworthy of the Top 50…read moreTeddys BBQ, a celebrated winner of the "Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ Awards," arrived with high expectations that were, unfortunately, decimated by the actual experience. Arriving at 11:10 AM, just after opening, we anticipated fresh, high-quality smoked meats and homemade sides. What we received was an uninspiring meal that leads me to question the legitimacy of its Top 50 status--and frankly, its place in the Top 100. This visit was a letdown, especially compared to the twelve other far superior BBQ joints we tasted this past week. The Meats: Misses and One Minor Hit The foundation of the barbecue here was weak, suggesting corner-cutting or, worse, reheating of old product. * Brisket: This was the biggest disappointment. The slice was terrible--dry, lacking juice, and with a bark that was chewy rather than crisp. It looked and tasted suspiciously like leftovers reheated from the day before, which is unacceptable minutes after opening. * Ribs: Nothing special here. They lacked the depth of smoke flavor and suffered from a distracting, undesirable "hammy" taste. There wasn't much meat on the bone, and the glaze was applied too lightly, failing to add any necessary sweetness or texture. * Jalapeño Cheese Sausage: This was the sole highlight of the meat offerings. It was a nice standard sausage with a good peppery snap to the casing and a satisfying ooze of cheddar cheese. It offered a nice, reliable counterpoint to the lackluster smoked proteins. Failed Opportunity: The Texas Twinkie The infamous Texas Twinkie completely missed the mark. While the basic concept of a bacon-wrapped, cream-cheese-stuffed jalapeño is sound, the execution here was poor. The filling was overwhelmingly cream cheese, which completely sucked the flavor out of the jalapeño and bacon. It was a great opportunity wasted by failing to include a bit of smoked brisket or chicken to give it complexity. Sides: Bland, Bland, Bland The sides tasted uninspired, suggesting they were prepared from a can or box rather than crafted from scratch--an unforgivable sin for a purported Top 50 establishment. * Creamed Corn: It was creamy but utterly bland. It needed significant elevation--perhaps charring the corn kernels or adding some diced jalapeño pieces for heat and brightness. * Mexican Rice: This was mushy and flavorless. It desperately lacked the savory depth and spice expected of Mexican rice. A small addition of pork or brisket trimmings would have provided necessary flavor and prevented it from tasting so generic. Dessert: An Unprofessional Finish The Grapefruit Pie was the final letdown. The filling tasted okay, but the crust was clearly store-bought. To be considered a Texas elite, every component should be homemade and excellent. This felt like an amateur concession. Final Verdict Overall, Teddys BBQ was profoundly uninspiring. Given that we arrived right after opening, expecting the freshest quality, and having recently toured 12 genuinely great BBQ places, this location falls far short. It simply does not belong in the Top 50, or even the Top 100. Teddys has a lot of room for improvement if it wants to justify its ranking.

It's the best I've eaten here in the RGV and coming in a close second to City Market in Luling, TX. It's that good! This visit I decided to try their Three Brisket Combo meal. It comes with three brisket tacos (corn or flour tortillas) loaded with brisket, a couple grilled jalapeño slices, grilled onions and some cilantro. They didn't need salsa but a squeeze of lime might've been helpful. The side I chose was their house made coleslaw which was pretty tasty. I ordered their green beans with onion and bacon but a few minutes after ordering a fellow came out to tell me they were out of the beans so I settled for the slaw. I also ordered an order of their house cut, tallow fried french fries. Man, were they GOOD! As in THE BEST FRIES I'VE EVER EATEN IN MY LIFE GOOD!!! They are worth the visit all by themselves. The combo meal comes with a bottomless drink as well. The wife and I split the Combo meal, added the fries and a small side of potato salad that she wanted. We each ate one taco and about half of the sides. So we had a leftover taco, some fries and half our sides for the next day. All for like $21. The combo meal is $13.99 which is a pretty good deal in itself. The fries were like $6 and well worth the price. We will definitely be back. I would also highly recommend their 50/50 Rice and Beans topped with Brisket Bowl. That provided two meals for me when I ordered it previously. You can't go wrong at this little joint.

My husband stated it was good but he removed some of the meat, it was over stuffed. I ordered a poblano & cheese sausage link sliced which came with 2 slices of bread, pickles, onions and bbq sauce; elote bowl and Serrano cornbread. The sausage was not spicy but with a little kick. The elote had pickled red onions on top and plenty of cotija cheese on top, with a lime wedge. The cornbread was not spicy but flavorful and moist. When I picked up my order, it was missing the trimmings for sausage but I walked over to the counter and let them know and they immediately made it right. We will be back to try more on the menu.
