We discovered the true Keylime a few years ago when we stayed at the Captiva inn and it included breakfast at Keylime or RC Otters. It was a great deal and so happy we discovered it. It is now our last stop before heading home to airport. A few weeks ago we checked out of our condo and headed to Keylime for breakfast brunch. I ordered the crab cakes benedict which is really amazing and my friend ordered the Belgian Waffles. Having traveled here many times together we now share with each other. I mean now I get two amazing items. Crab cakes are delicious and the keylime hollandaise makes this meal. It is sometime really hard to share. We've visited this bistro just twice in the decade that we've been coming down to Sanibel Island but really enjoyed our meal and experience both times. On our most recent visit in late February, we enjoyed eggs Benny's on the patio. Service was polite and friendly. For our brunch, I opted for the crab cake version and my hubby chose a benny with bacon. We also ordered a fresh orange juice to share, which was so delicious. The food arrived pretty quickly and was presented nicely. While the menu states there is key lime in their home made hollandaise sauce, I personally couldn't taste it but my meal was totally yummy and satisfying. I enjoyed the homefried potatoes and fresh fruit which were served alongside the eggs benny. The hubster also really enjoyed his meal as well. Hello Keylime Bistro, hello brunch! A group of eight of us came for brunch on the weekend. We got a large table out on the patio adjacent to the small stage where they had a gentleman singing and playing the guitar. I had the Crab Cake Benedict (two poached eggs served over sliced tomato & crab cakes on an english muffin, finished with key lime hollandaise & breakfast potatoes and fresh fruit) and it was great! We all tried different dishes and everything looked great! We topped it off by sharing several pieces of key lime pie that was mouth watering. And BTW their oven wasn't working when we were there but that only limited two dishes from the menu, no biggie, life happens. I hope they get it fixed or replaced soon. 10 years ago, we came to the Key Lime Bistro on our honeymoon and remembered it so fondly. This time, not so much. I ordered a burger. It was honestly one of the worst burgers I've ever eaten. It had a rubbery consistency and a weird aftertaste, almost like plastic. I had asked for medium, this had zero pink. But even being overcooked would not account for the really weird texture and taste. I had my husband try it and he said the same thing. Our waiter had not been overly friendly to that point and was much more interested in hanging by the bar talking than checking in on us. We had to find another waitress to return the burger. Our original waiter then came by and said, "I don't know what was wrong with the burger, we've been selling them just fine all day." Kind of rude, in my opinion. I asked for mozzarella sticks instead of the burger and they were ok. The fries were great. My husband's chicken BLT was nothing special but not terrible. The dessert, however, was great! Highly recommend Keylime Bistro for a drink and dessert! If you've been to Captiva frequently you know that the island typically goes to sleep around 830 or so...ha! Well the one place that doesn't go to sleep that early is Keylime. Great live music on the patio until 10pm. Then on Saturday nights they actually have a DJ come around 9:30 and play until the party stops! (We stayed until after midnight because the drinks were flowing). One small suggestion I do have is the wait staff were all dressed very casually (like sweatshirts and shorts). For entrees we got blackened grouper, seared tuna, and the stuffed grouper. The stuffed grouper was a let down. It was overly salted and the lobster meat was completely shredded. It could have been replaced with imitation crab meat with little noticeable difference in the dish. The hollandaise sauce continued the theme of overpowering the flavors of the ingredients. For one of the more expensive items on the menu, I would have expected better execution. Lastly, we couldn't leave without getting a slice of key lime pie (and neither should you). It was fantastic. Their crust is a bit different than typical pie crust, with a bit of a chunky graham cracker vibe. Delicious! read more

Grilled grouper for our 7 yr old, which unfortunately wasn't deboned at all, so he gave up and couldn't eat it. The shrimp scampi, which was okay. And the walnut crusted snapper, which had only one walnut in the entire dish and no crust whatsoever. The tropical salsa of mangoes kiwis and red bell peppers provided sweetness to the dish which thankfully gave it some flavor. Sides were yellow rice, shredded carrots and broccoli. If you like your veggies seasoned, perhaps request it, as these were underwhelming. We did appreciate the staff, two stars for them as they were very nice on the phone and in person. One of the few options that was open on Christmas Day. We were surprised to not have a wait even though the place was packed. Shortly after we were seated, there was a line forming for tables. We all ordered of the chefs special menu, not sure if this was a Christmas menu or if they always provide this. We all enjoyed our dinners, which includes macadamia nut Mahi, sea bass, seafood pasta, and coconut shrimp. The Mahi was tasty but the raspberry sauce seemed strange and wasn't necessary. It was flavorful but it tasted like jelly on my fish. I would have preferred a mango/pineapple salsa like the sea bass came with. We each tried a different dessert but none of them blew us away. The creme brulee was very bland without a crispy torched layer. The brownie sundae was probably our favorite but also the most basic of the 4. Went for lunch on a Thursday and sat at a nice shaded table outside. The server was friendly at first, but eventually seemed annoyed at my group for needing water refills and such. My sisters been craving a Key Lime Pie martini for days and she finally got one! I also got the banana cream martini and that was delicious as well; both vey creamy and flavorful. Oh wow this place is so good. Our table had the crabcake sandwich, a Caesar salad with grilled shrimp, a raspberry frozen drink, and the key lime pie for dessert. Everything was excellent and so fresh. The crab cake sandwich has not one but two crabcakes and a signature key lime aioli. The Caesar had the freshest shrimp I ever tasted. Please note that this review is based solely on one dessert that was ordered for takeout. We had dinner somewhere else and decided to call Keylime Bistro for takeout Key Lime Pie because we heard it was fabulous. It was. End of story. Instead of sharing a piece (because, c'mon, it's supposed to be the best...) my boyfriend and I each ordered a piece. So when we got back to our room and pulled these out of the bag... I swear I heard angels and saw beautiful sunbeams come from the sky to highlight that pie. The consistency is a lot fluffier that most, its a lot thicker pie, it's wonderful.
