We were starved after a long drive up from Fort Bragg in NC. This place was close to the Home2Suites where we were to spend the night. Close and convenient on our way in. We did the drive thru, as we were whipped from driving. We ordered a cheeseburger added bacon, a double cheeseburger added bacon, two orders of fries, a double large drink (32 oz.), and order of chili added cheese and fritos, and a medium frosted malt. All our food was very good. The chili is best with the cheese and fritos, as it is a thinner based chili, not thick. The drive through line was long, but we can see why based on the food quality. They do NOT have military discounts for retired military veterans, probably the only negative comment we can provide. They require a signature on your credit card receipt, so they are a little behind the times on that aspect. We ate in our hotel rooms, so can't comment on the dinning room...our hotel room was nice. It was worth the high marks that caused us to give it a try...it is an awesome local burger joint. We highly recommend it. read more

Four of us stopped in for lunch to go on our way back from Cedar Point. We could tell this place was a local institution by the age of the building, the line at the counter, and the old folks sitting around having lunch. We all got burgers, fries, and a couple of frozen yogurts & malts. Everything was fresh, cooked to order, and the prices can't be beat. Our only recommendation is they need to season the burgers - they were bland and needed salt. The fries needed salt, as well. Luckily we had packets so were able to take care of that in the car. As someone who had not eaten here before it would have nice to how it works. The girl took our order and then walked away. We didn't know if we paid now or sit down. So we waited no workers spoke to us. Eventually another girl brought our food and then rang us up. We had plenty of places to sit. We picked a table that look the least dirty. My grandparents lived in Lima for many decades, and when I was a kid growing up in Sidney, they would take me to Kewpee when I would visit. My grandmother loved the Kewpee. I would get a cheeseburger and fries, maybe a shake. A few years ago my grandmother passed away, and her children and grandchildren flew in from across the country for her memorial service. Her last wish (written in her will!) was for us to have lunch after the memorial at this Kewpee, which she paid for. Thanks grandma! So what I did was drive to a different Kewpee Hamburgers to A) compare the two, and B). Give Mrs. E. a chance to experience the legend. You have three new fans, Mrs.E and her dogs. I've heard highly about this places for years now. I've just never been in the area to try it out until my son had a leg brace appointment just up the street. The line for the drive thru looks intimidating but it moves really fast. The hamburgers are delicious and so juicy. We were stuffed and happy. Got a standard cheeseburger with fries and a drink and the whole thing was reasonably priced at $6. I'd rather come here than McDs or another fast food joint. Support local! Found a local gem in Lima! Food was tasty and affordable. Associates were friendly and dressed in throwback uniforms that reminded me of the 50's. Love the retro feel of the restaurant. Don't be alarmed by the line at the drive thru! It's worth the wait. Ordered the double cheeseburger, fries, and pumpkin pie. Note that the onions are raw. Pie tasted like grandma made it! Stopped in to try this place I've heard so much about. Ambiance is typical fast food burger joint. We waited in line for about 30 minutes. The food is freshly made & tasty. Hubby & I both ordered cheeseburgers, we split an order of fries & he ordered a slice of apple crisp pie for dessert while I got the chocolate malt (similar to a frosty). Our burgers were delicious though they go a bit overboard with the mustard. The fries were good (similar to McDonald's). Hubby liked the pie & I liked the malt. Finally made it to Lima to this hamburger establishment from 1928! There's 3 locations in Lima Ohio. Huge inside eating area! I ordered the'Special! burger' which had miracle whip, lettuce and tomatoes and I added pickles. For $2.50 it was a decent flavorful burger! I got a extra large ice tea for $1.10! Such a deal! Service was not friendly. We came in and ordered and my daughter is a picky eater and allergic to a lot of things so we usually have questions that need to be answered. The upfront employees response was unfriendly and minimal. We ended up getting her a grilled cheese sandwich, but when we received the sandwich it was just a bun with cheese on it. A simple drive in style restaurant that is wonderful in price and quality. You order as soon as you walk in, there is a person with a notepad and that is where you place your order so if you are not a regular customer then I recommend you view their menu online. The burgers are fantastic and at only 3 bucks for a cheeseburger with all the toppings at the time of this review, it is an incredible deal. This place was hopping. There was a line of people around the building for the drive-thru and a line of people inside. Luckily the line moved fairly quickly. The team working behind the counter was efficient at getting orders out. You can tell this is a local spot as there were many repeat customers that the staff automatically knew the orders for. I got mine to go as time was limited by the time I made it through the line. The food was ok. Personally I thought it tasted like In-N-Out or McDonalds both of which are meh burger joints to me. So this is a place you MUST stop. It borders on one of the better hamburgers I have had. Fresh made burgers, ample toppings, and well seasoned. If you go there don't waste your time on asking for water - there are small plastic cups available at the fountain, but if you ask for one of their cups with ice you will pay $0.50 per cup. Here is what they are known for: 1. An excellent hamburger/cheeseburger. I got a double and could have eaten a triple, or a few doubles, as they were great. 2. Their chili. I got Chili as my side and it was good - not a spicy chili (it is a savory chili) with lots of meat and a great base. 3. Their pies. You will see many pies available and they look amazing. Throughout the place you see these "creepy" Kewpie dolls around. It is rather "Spartan" inside with nothing spent for decorations other than these "creepy" Kewpie dolls. Would I come again? Had heard about Kewpee's so decided to give them a try. Me and my wife had the double cheeseburger and fries. She had the chocolate malt and I had the lemonade slushy, both were good. The wait wasn't more than 15 minutes. The sizes of the drinks are smaller than at other fast food restaurants, but that is a plus if you are trying to eat healthier. We dined in and everything was clean. Will definitely come back due to the proximity to I-75 as I live out of town, but do pass through Lima several times a year'. read more
