Food and service were perfect! Burger with fries for lunch was delicious. Great atmosphere.

I first came to 133 Bistro, two days after I moved from Miami, Florida to Van Wert, OH. I was down and depressed... had to deal with a bunch of things before the move, leaving everything I knew behind and not celebrating my birthday all took an emotional toll on me. I was also exhausted from all the packing. Finally, I was getting tired of the fast food as I had been living in a hotel a few days before I came up here and now was living in a hotel. I needed a good meal badly... and I got it. Shop is located where Balyeats used to be. Restaurant was around for forever and really was a historical place for the town. The company I worked for actually bought the sign for Balyeats and restored it and it now is located in our Cafeteria area. Anyway, I digress. It is located in downtown Van Wert right next to the Van Wert County Common Pleas Courthouse, which is an absolutely beautiful courthouse. I walked in and it just has this hometown diner feel to it. You are always warmly greeted, and even though this place was packed, we were ushered into a table at the far end of the restaurant. I have since been in here quite frequently and can say it is always packed by locals and u never wait more than a few minutes to find a table. We quickly got some coffees and placed our orders. My brother and I both got meat lovers omelettes with home fries and toast, while my mother got some sunny side up eggs, sausage patties and pancakes. We also ordered some biscuits and gravy for the table. Food was delicious! Biscuits and gravy certainly warmed me up (it's been non-stop cold here), the eggs, home fries and other items were perfectly done. I have since switched to French fries once I realized that's an option because I prefer it. I have had lunch a few times including one day I had a chicken sandwich and some chili! The chicken sandwich was pretty good, the chili was better. Like I said, it's cold here... been weeks of nothing but 30 or lower and it's hard on this Ex South Florida guy. The chili was thick and flavorful, may not be the best I have had but it was darned good... could use a bit more kick to it. I like spicy foods. This has become my go to restaurant in town... and it's probably the same for the rest of the town. So glad I came in to this place, after my first meal it certainly brought a smile to my face.

Sunday mornings are busy, but we were seated quickly. The place is clean and bright. Waitress was friendly and attentive. The Greek Omelette was amazing. I think Gyro Omelette would be a more apt description. Gyro meat, tomato, onion, and feta cheese in an omelette with tzatziki sauce to top, fried potatoes, and rye toast. Wonderful!

This restaurant took over a very well established diner that was a staple in town. Had the opportunity to meet one of the owners which works at the diner. The food was good. The prices were great. The restaurant was fairly noisy. And the waitress running around quickly clanging dishes and stuff added to the nose level. Over all great little place for breakfast or lunch.

Kids menu.

Newer place to eat in downtown Van Wert offering only breakfast and lunch. They have done a lot to the interior to brighten up the space and give it a more modern feel. For breakfast they offer many signature dishes, like: omelettes, skillets, waffels, and pancakes. All the portions are large and seemed very fresh. The staff was very nice and we're almost offering coffee too much (if that is possible). We only had two issues with our visit. First, the booster seats are very old and the grippers are worn down, combined with being too large for the seats spells disaster. Our daughter took a fall out if it in under 5 minutes. Second, there were a few pieces of ice that had something inside them. This was only in one cup, but still a bit gross. Overall a good place to eat, but offers some room for improvement.

This was a surprise find in a rural historic Indiana town of Van Wert. Very clean and spacious with a cheerful greeting and considerate efficient service. A large variety of creative menus choices including deep fried cauliflower with a kick. Highly recommend.

Willow Bend Country Club

It's my 700th review! High fives to all! Confetti dropping! Ahem...For my 700th review, I wanted it…read moreto be special. I decided to save it for a review of my favorite restaurant since moving to the area from Miami, Florida: Willow Bend Country Club. I first came to Willow Bend for lunch in December when I first traveled to Van Wert. I ate lunch with people from the company during the interview/recruitment process and I was impressed by the service and the delicious food. The fact that I got a social membership as part of my joining the company was a perk and certainly a reason why I started working for the company I am in now. I easily could have seen myself coming here to eat... place is nice... classy, and again the food is delicious! I have come a few times since then, leaving it as a place for special occasions including for when I found out I got the house I am currently living at. The waitresses and bar tenders are always friendly. Just love this place. I have eaten various items on this menu, I will focus on my favorites that I've had: 1) Asian Boneless Wings. I love wings, it's one of my favorite things to eat... but I am not a fan of boneless wings. I am a traditionalist and a bit of a snob when it comes to this. These wings, though, I will make an exception for my dislike of boneless wings. These wings which are breaded and covered in a sweet and spicy hoisin oriental sauce... is perfect. It expertly blends spicy and sweet so much, I don't care if they are boneless. 2) Baked Potato Soup. I love this kind of soup, and this is one of the better versions I've had. Especially good during a cold day! 3) Peach-Apple Glazed Pork Chop Ribeye. Another exception to my normal rules of food. I like pork chops with bone... I had boneless. These chops are so juicy... it doesn't matter! It's a bit sweet... almost too sweet for my taste but it just straddles that line... I could eat this over and over 4) 12 oz. Texas Ribeye. This is a big steak! It's a delicious, hearty-cut ribeye with a dried pepper and coffee rub seasoning, char-grilled to perfection... i normally can't finish a 12 oz... I did when I came here! I just couldn't put down my fork! Honorable mention: bread... allegedly made out of veggies? Waiter and manager didn't know which... still that's pretty good... and the bread was warm and soft... and with some butter.... mmmmm! I also feel I should mention that yes there is a golf course attached to this... haven't played and don't know how so I can't opine on that. Moreover, they do have events. I haven't been to one but I may attend the next one since they are bringing a comic... surf and turf dinner included in price. Willow Bend therefore is a great place to both eat and have some fun! I am super happy I am a member of such a wonderful country club! Never saw myself ever becoming a country club guy... but life has a way of surprising you! If you are in the area, join!

Amazing food, great staff, and cozy atmosphere. My suggestions would be to promote outdoor seating…read moremore, have a less formal/stuffy atmosphere in the "lounge" area, and open it up to the public (at least partially)!!!
