I am new to the area and I am still trying find places to hang out and eat. I came here a while back with my family. We wanted to eat at a sit down restaurant and it's located relatively close to where I work. I have never eaten at a Bob Evans before but it reminds me a lot of a Denny's or an IHOP. It was cold the night we came... think it was maybe 20 without taking into account the wind chill. We sat down and started looking at the menu... huge menu and it would be huge even taking into account they serve breakfast and dinner. I am always afraid of restaurants that have too many choices on their menu... simply it's easier to be an expert when you have a smaller menu. I noticed they served soups and chili. It was a cold night so my mother ordered chicken soup and and I ordered chili. My brother, the contrarian, got a Caesar salad. The chili wasn't bad, but it was rather watery and not as flavorful as I prefer. I like my chili to be thick, hot and spicy. My brother did like the salad. We all ordered some home style fried chicken tenders, with corn, fries and honey mustard. My brother got baked potato, though. The chicken was rather good, the sides were pretty standard. For dessert, my mother got the double-crust apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. My brother and I got both some chocolate sundaes. The sundae was my favorite part of the meal. I know it's crazy that I ordered ice cream on such a cold night, but I guess I am starting to get used to the cold. Anyway, it wasn't a bad experience. I probably will be back eventually. I haven't tried their breakfast and wonder if it's better:

I decided to save it for a review of my favorite restaurant since moving to the area from Miami, Florida: Willow Bend Country Club. I first came to Willow Bend for lunch in December when I first traveled to Van Wert. I ate lunch with people from the company during the interview/recruitment process and I was impressed by the service and the delicious food. The fact that I got a social membership as part of my joining the company was a perk and certainly a reason why I started working for the company I am in now. I easily could have seen myself coming here to eat... place is nice... classy, and again the food is delicious! I have come a few times since then, leaving it as a place for special occasions including for when I found out I got the house I am currently living at. The waitresses and bar tenders are always friendly. Just love this place. I have eaten various items on this menu, I will focus on my favorites that I've had: 1) Asian Boneless Wings. I love wings, it's one of my favorite things to eat... but I am not a fan of boneless wings. I am a traditionalist and a bit of a snob when it comes to this. These wings, though, I will make an exception for my dislike of boneless wings. These wings which are breaded and covered in a sweet and spicy hoisin oriental sauce... is perfect. It expertly blends spicy and sweet so much, I don't care if they are boneless. 2) Baked Potato Soup. I love this kind of soup, and this is one of the better versions I've had. Especially good during a cold day! 3) Peach-Apple Glazed Pork Chop Ribeye. Another exception to my normal rules of food. I like pork chops with bone... I had boneless. These chops are so juicy... it doesn't matter! It's a bit sweet... almost too sweet for my taste but it just straddles that line... I could eat this over and over 4) 12 oz. Texas Ribeye. This is a big steak! It's a delicious, hearty-cut ribeye with a dried pepper and coffee rub seasoning, char-grilled to perfection... i normally can't finish a 12 oz... I did when I came here! I just couldn't put down my fork! Honorable mention: bread... allegedly made out of veggies? Waiter and manager didn't know which... still that's pretty good... and the bread was warm and soft... and with some butter.... mmmmm! I also feel I should mention that yes there is a golf course attached to this... haven't played and don't know how so I can't opine on that. Moreover, they do have events. I haven't been to one but I may attend the next one since they are bringing a comic... surf and turf dinner included in price. Willow Bend therefore is a great place to both eat and have some fun! I am super happy I am a member of such a wonderful country club! Never saw myself ever becoming a country club guy... but life has a way of surprising you! If you are in the area, join!

It also has a beautiful outdoor seating area, which i would recommend to use during the spring-summer months. They also do have outdoor heaters, but I despise the cold too much to brave it out when it gets cold. There are constantly events done here, special menus are a thing... i would recommend always to take a look at their facebook page to see what they are up to. They serve delicious brunches, especially during holidays. I attended during both Easter and Mother's Day. All you can eat for about $25 is great, especially considering how great the food tastes and the selection. Their speciality though is dinner, and to be more clear, they are masters of steak. This place is easily in my top 5 steak places I have ever eaten in, and considering I love steak... that should tell you something. I've had the Texas Ribeye, the Sirloin and the Surf and Turf... magnificent! I love being able to cook the steak, just how I like it on a hot stone. It's one of the big things, that makes this place truly special! It all comes seasoned and ready for cooking. All you have to do, is cook it how you desire on that hot stone. It's so satisfying! Both cooking it and eating it! The smell when it cooks, the sound of the sizzle, it makes your stomach and palate appreciate the meal more. The anticipation that your senses create in you as you cook the steak, greatly increases the pleasure when you finally take a bite. You can also add things to your steak for a very small up-charge. My favorite is the Kentucky Bourbon Glaze as it makes the steak exquisite! Now, If you are not willing to try cooking your entree in the hot stone yourself, the kitchen is more than happy to make it for you. A number or co-workers did that. Although, they voiced their regret, when they saw me cook my own. They loved their steak, but they saw how much fun I was having. They also serve fish, chicken, burgers and other entrees. I've heard great things about the burgers from colleagues and my brother when I ate with them. It is on my list for future consumption. My mother and I've had the half roasted sous vide chicken. The chicken was absolutely incredible. It was perfectly seasoned and juicy. The service is excellent. The waitstaff is so attentive and personable! Everyone who works there from the front of the house staff, kitchen, managers, and owner are just so nice! I know I am making this place sound almost too good to be true, but this place is truly good. If there was anything I wish this amazing place would do would be the following: 1) Expand. They get a lot of business, and it can be a bit packed during the special holiday brunches. 2) Add shrimp as a main menu item. I really enjoyed the shrimp when I ordered the surf and turf. Sometimes you just want shrimp, because having that with a large steak is just too much. Also some others just prefer seafood over steak. If you already sell the shrimp on the side, why not also make it a main? These are just minor points, because this place is just wonderful! If you live in Van Wert and have not tried this place, you're crazy. If you live nearby whether it's Celina, Saint Marys, Lima, Convoy, New Haven or Fort Wayne, it's worth the drive!

They originally had us seated on the left side of the restaurant but due to some issues, they moved us to a high top table in the main bar area. I had the Walleye Sandwich with Onion Rings. Everyone agreed that their Onion Rings are fantastic. My wife had the Grilled Wedge. The presentation of her salad was top notch but she said the flavor was just OK. My wife and one of our clients also had the Tomato Basil Soup and neither of them cared for it. They both said it tasted more like a marinara sauce than a soup. Our service was excellent.
