When I heard about Lucky Spice "N" Rice opening in Van Wert, I was immediately interested. Any…read morerestaurant that deviates from the Pizza, Burger, Mexican food triangle this town only focuses on is a good thing. Life is to be savored after all, and the more flavors the better! A place where you can have Indian food is great! It also does have more American food in the menu, for those who do not or have family who want to stick with what they know. My family has eaten a few times from here, taking carry out each time. Ordering is convenient as they both have a website and you can call in. The food is absolutely delicious! My family has eaten the following items: 1) Chicken Tika-Masala: Savory and spicy dish... has the right amount of kick to it: We love it! 2) Chicken Pakora: my personal favorite dish, its an appetizer. It is so good! It's salty, it's crunchy! Yum! 4) Butter Chicken: Families favorite dish. The delicious taste will melt you like butter under a. hot sun. 5) the rice and naan bread are very good. 6) Gulab Jamun. This dessert has just the right amount of sweet components! We should have bought more but will the next time! I could go on, this place is great! And we are very lucky to have this place open up! Highly recommend if you live in Van Wert! Cmon, try something new!

This restaurant brings new flavors to Van Wert's food scene and is absolutely incredible…read more My wife and I took our extended family for a pre-Christmas treat. We had a range of appetizers from samosas to padpi chaat. All we tried were delicious. Our entrees ranged from Tikka Masala to Biryani to Curries, the Biryani and Curries came with a choice of meat- adding Garlic Naan bread made the perfect meal. Don't be afraid of the spice - the medium was easy. I'll step it up to spicy next time - but not 'Indian Spicy'. The food is all homemade by the owners and incredible. The service is also from family and impeccable. Anything that we were unfamiliar were clearly explained For anyone who is looking for a change from Van Wert' standard Mexican/Chinese/Beer Barrel options, I highly recommend Lucky's Hot Spice and Rice.

It's my 700th review! High fives to all! Confetti dropping! Ahem...For my 700th review, I wanted it…read moreto be special. I decided to save it for a review of my favorite restaurant since moving to the area from Miami, Florida: Willow Bend Country Club. I first came to Willow Bend for lunch in December when I first traveled to Van Wert. I ate lunch with people from the company during the interview/recruitment process and I was impressed by the service and the delicious food. The fact that I got a social membership as part of my joining the company was a perk and certainly a reason why I started working for the company I am in now. I easily could have seen myself coming here to eat... place is nice... classy, and again the food is delicious! I have come a few times since then, leaving it as a place for special occasions including for when I found out I got the house I am currently living at. The waitresses and bar tenders are always friendly. Just love this place. I have eaten various items on this menu, I will focus on my favorites that I've had: 1) Asian Boneless Wings. I love wings, it's one of my favorite things to eat... but I am not a fan of boneless wings. I am a traditionalist and a bit of a snob when it comes to this. These wings, though, I will make an exception for my dislike of boneless wings. These wings which are breaded and covered in a sweet and spicy hoisin oriental sauce... is perfect. It expertly blends spicy and sweet so much, I don't care if they are boneless. 2) Baked Potato Soup. I love this kind of soup, and this is one of the better versions I've had. Especially good during a cold day! 3) Peach-Apple Glazed Pork Chop Ribeye. Another exception to my normal rules of food. I like pork chops with bone... I had boneless. These chops are so juicy... it doesn't matter! It's a bit sweet... almost too sweet for my taste but it just straddles that line... I could eat this over and over 4) 12 oz. Texas Ribeye. This is a big steak! It's a delicious, hearty-cut ribeye with a dried pepper and coffee rub seasoning, char-grilled to perfection... i normally can't finish a 12 oz... I did when I came here! I just couldn't put down my fork! Honorable mention: bread... allegedly made out of veggies? Waiter and manager didn't know which... still that's pretty good... and the bread was warm and soft... and with some butter.... mmmmm! I also feel I should mention that yes there is a golf course attached to this... haven't played and don't know how so I can't opine on that. Moreover, they do have events. I haven't been to one but I may attend the next one since they are bringing a comic... surf and turf dinner included in price. Willow Bend therefore is a great place to both eat and have some fun! I am super happy I am a member of such a wonderful country club! Never saw myself ever becoming a country club guy... but life has a way of surprising you! If you are in the area, join!

Amazing food, great staff, and cozy atmosphere. My suggestions would be to promote outdoor seating…read moremore, have a less formal/stuffy atmosphere in the "lounge" area, and open it up to the public (at least partially)!!!

Sharing for safety (not my story, but absolutely credible):…read more Last night . . . I just worked a 12.5-hour shift in the ER. Im in Van Wert, Ohio. I'm two hours from home, so I'm staying in a hotel. Exhausted, I decide to grab a bite and a beer before heading back. I went to this local sports bar, walk in, and take a seat at the bar. Before I can even sit down, heads turn, people staring from the left side of the bar. And in my head, I already thinking: "Here we fucking go." But I keep my cool. I ask this the lady to the left if anyone's sitting in the open chair, she says no, so I sit. I'm browsing the tap list, trying to decompress. Not even 30 seconds go by before I hear the same lady say "Trump." A group of about six or seven people are with her are chatting. Then I hear a woman murmur, "Ehh, no. I'd never let him touch me." Seconds later, a man responds, "Well, scoot closer to me then." And just like that, the woman shifts her chair away from me. I'm still trying to act unfazed, looking at the TV playing the Cubs game, playing on my phone, interacting only with the bartender. Then again, from my left, more Trump talk. Someone on the screen is wearing a red MAGA hat. The woman says, "I wonder how they feel about him wearing that hat there." A man replies, "He shouldn't give a fuck what anybody says." She whispers, "We probably shouldn't say this stuff too loud around here. Someone might get offended." He answers, "That's his problem." At this point, I can't even concentrate on the menu. All I can think about is how I've been showing up here, caring for this same community, doing my best in their only ER, and this is how they really think of people who look like me. I'm nearly done with my beer when the couple beside me asks for their check. They stand to leave, say goodbye to the group beside them, and that's when I hear it: "Don't forget your niggers." My heart stopped. Blood rushed to my face. Time froze. Do I say something? Throw my beer? Walk out? Fight? It felt like an eternity, but it was less than a second. My head doesn't turnn towards them. I just keep looking up at the TV. Someone murmured what sounded like a correction and then louder: "I said his Nickers!" And they all laughed like it was the funniest thing they'd ever heard. I sat there, stunned, feeling every emotion at once rage, humiliation, fear, heartbreak. I knew I had to leave. The bartender came back, asked if I was ready to order food. I told her I'd just take the check. I paid. Got up. Walked toward the door. TVs were blasting. Music playing. Noise everywhere. And just as I pushed the door open, someone shouted clear as day: "NIGGER." I stutter stepped, tucked my head down, and I walked to my car in utter disbelief. I sobbed. Sobbed from frustration. From rage. From sadness. From exhaustion. From fear. How is this the world I live in? No one in that whole town knows me. But because of the color of my skin, they felt entitled to break me down. Humiliate me. Push me. Provoke me. Try to turn me into a headline. And you know what? Not a single person in that bar stood up. Said a word. Spoke out. Not the waitress. Not another patron. No one said a thing. And the crazy part? I still had my scrubs on. Not that racists care what you do for a living. But it's just so ironic to me. One day, I might be the nurse keeping them or someone they love alive. And they couldn't care less about my life. So again I ask, Are we great yet?
