I've used Kevin for the past few of my moves and he's my go-to when I move. (luckily, I have not moved that much, so I dont need him that much). I trust that I won't be charged an arm and a leg and I find the prices are reasonable and there hasn't been a time I've been hit with sneaky or unexpected charges. I've heard of crazy things like companies charging per box, etc - so I like that he charges fairly. Also, on the plus side, I think he's a local business - so I felt better actually hiring him instead of some huge company. Before my move, I asked 10 million questions and Kevin answered my questions promptly and didn't make me feel like pest (even though I probably was). One thing I will say that if you buy large bubble bubblewrap, they will wrap things for you, instead of charging you for using their own supplies. This was stated in an introductory email, but I missed it with all the craziness that comes with moving and I spent the day before moving running around trying to find large bubble bubble wrap. read more

I've been putting off posting a review about Kevin's Moving Service for over a year thinking my disgruntled feelings would subside over time but they haven't. I also think this information is important to anyone looking to hire Kevin's Moving Service. About a year ago my husband and I moved from a one bedroom apartment to a two bedroom. The first thing that the movers said to us when they arrived is that we had been over charged. They informed us that Kevin subcontracts out bigger jobs and we were over paying. They were telling us this because they didn't like Kevin and said we should contact them directly next time. (Um, no. We won't be doing that.) This started the whole experience on a bad foot. Who wants to be told at the beginning of a transaction that they are being taken advantage of? We were paying by the hour (rookie mistake on my part) and the guys were very chatty so everything took longer than it should have so we had to obviously pay more. They didn't wrap the items we asked them to wrap. They refused to move some things because they said it would cost us more to move them than the thing was worth. (Shouldn't that be my call?) They also left the hallway of our old apartment a total mess, empty water bottles and discarded tape everywhere. All of this I could overlook as a "you get what you pay for" but the thing I cannot forget is the incident couch. There was a right angle in the hallway leading into our new apartment and, horror of horrors, our couch wouldn't fit in the front door. Luckily there is a back door off the porch. I said that we should try the back door. The head mover guy didn't want to try the back door. His solution was to leave the couch on the sidewalk. I kid you not. That was his first and only solution. "We'll just have to leave the couch on the sidewalk". I asked over and over to try the back door. Without even measuring it he just repeated the line about leaving our most expensive piece of furniture on the sidewalk. Eventually we measured the back door, walked the sofa around to the back side of the house and, miracle of miracles, it fit. I hire movers to solve a problem for me. I hire them to perform a service that I cannot perform myself. I hire them to make my life easier. These guys made my life harder. They didn't solve the problem of the couch. Moving day is stressful to begin with. These guys gave me a panic attack thinking that my couch would be left out on the sidewalk as trash. They offered no real solutions to a very big problem (Take the couch back to the old apartment? Take the couch to a storage facility? Try the back door?) Instead they made the day so much worse than it had to be. My husband and I had to move the remaining items from our old apartment ourselves (the ones they said weren't worth moving) and then we had to clean up all the debris and trash in the hallway. It was around 8pm by the time we were done with the move. The movers arrived at 9am. We were moving only 10 blocks away. read more

A friend of mine enthusiastically recommended Kevin's Moving Service when I told him I was thinking about hiring a mover for my Manhattan to Brooklyn relocation. I'm happy to say that Kevin's Moving Service lived up to the hype! After reaching out to Kevin and giving him the rundown on my move, he provided me with a reasonable rate, and walked me through all the logistics that go into a move like this - insurance, parking, etc. He provided some super detailed FAQs that answered most all of my questions before I even asked them. I almost felt guilty on the day of the move, as I stood around sipping coffee while Kevin's team quickly descended on our apartment. The team took great care with all our belongings and got the truck loaded quick. For a reasonable surcharge they wrapped our TV, mattress, and some of our furniture. I appreciated the way they would add tape to some of our boxes, just to be safe. The whole move was done in record time. A move that I guessed would take 5 hours was done in just 3. I'm a nervous mover, and always expecting something to go wrong, so I was pleasantly surprised when everything went right! I moved about a studio's worth of stuff from Stuytown/East Village (elevator building) to LES (2nd floor walkup). Kevin was communicative and prompt when it came to arranging everything, getting the COI, and payment. The movers came on time, but one of them (I was supposed to have 3) called in sick at the last minute. They were also from a company name I didn't recognize, which was a bit confusing, but they had all the details correct. They adjusted the price for me (it had been $375 for the first 2 hours and $75 per each half hour after that; adjusted to ~$290 for first 2 hours and ~$60 per each half hour after that), though, and thankfully my partner came to help me move and was able to "stand" in the truck at all times so parking wasn't an issue (as it can often be in Manhattan). The movers themselves were efficient and extremely professional, and we were done in 4 hours. Really just lovely people, and I tipped them over 25% for their extreme professionalism, which I always appreciate for things like moving. tldr: there were a few snags in terms of not recognizing the moving company that arrived on the actual day, and one mover called in sick at the last minute, but nothing which derailed anything--and above all, I had a smooth, fairly efficient move, where nothing broke, all for about 1/2 to 2/3 of the price other companies had quoted me! Kevin's moving service was incredibly professional and efficient for my move from NY to five hours away. I had two other moves over the past two months with different moving companies and neither came close to their level of service. The movers carefully wrapped my items with blankets, even items we wouldn't have needed to wrap and showed care carrying them. Kevin's team knocked this one out of the park. We were not prepared. It had been six years since we had moved last, and we had clearly forgotten everything. We also just didn't have time. These guys showed up, 5 minutes before they said they would, calm, confident, and ready to work. Last night millions of revelers gathered in homes, bars and lounges around New York to welcome the first light of 2012. You would think that in the aftermath of such a worldwide frenzy of alcohol, drugs and random hookups, no human would have the wherewithal or the appropriate BAC to drive a moving van to help a poor soul. And when we hit traffic on the BQE he automatically got off at the next exit and took an alternate route instead of sitting there and billing extra time. We actually ended up using him a couple of weeks later to help move some unwanted furniture to the basement of our old building and he couldn't have been quicker and more accommodating. I asked around and Kevin quoted me the lowest rate, not only that but the extra fees like driving fees were lower, too. He was very communicative and helpful. So after reading all the reviews and his quote, I contacted him and said I wanted to hire him. He said he'd send over a different company that he is a partner in. So imagine how much trust you would lose in something if you were to hear something like that after you already pay the deposit. Well, moving day came and people showed up in a truck that was a name I didn't recognize, I wish he had told me the name of the moving company coming for me. If you are looking to do any type of move and want an experienced mover, Kevin is your guy! He was very knowledgeable about moving and the process, but also with the unknown unknowns. He's great at adapting to the situation and very understanding. My wife and I moved from New York to Charlotte and he made the move so easy on us. I contacted him 3 months before the move and he had a list of things to get ready for the move and was always available for questions along the way. Before the move, he made sure we were ready, and during the move, he always kept a good line of communication open, whether if it was text or call. He made sure we got everything in the truck and things were all secured. He drove down to Charlotte and met us at the new apartment within two days. Don't even bother with this guy. Found this service on craigslist. Booked the job and got a confirmation email with all the details and stats. Was informed ahead of time that if my stuff exceeded the items listed on the email I would be charged additional fees. I emailed Kevin 3 days later asking if we could add some items, and he could adjust the price accordingly, and he said that was fine. Why such a bad review? The email said he would show up Sunday morning between 8 and 9am. He calls me the night before at 10pm saying he'll have to be there at 7:30am because he has so many other jobs to do. I said no, that's not possible as I will not be back at the apartment till at least 8am. The next morning at 8am as I'm rushing from the train to make it I have a voicemail from Kevin saying he is there at the address at 7:50am. I repeatedly try calling to tell him I am 2 mins away and he will not pick up my calls. I leave a voice message and I get no response. Finally at 8:25am Kevin picks up and I ask him where he is, and he says he left. He left! Without any notification, not a message, not a call. He just left. He said he won't jeopardize one customer's job because of another one. Well, then maybe you shouldn't over book yourself. This guy is wound way too tight and he doesn't realize that a business prospers not by your neat emails and scheduling, but by customer satisfaction and recommendations to family and friends. If you want a cheap and easy move in NYC, Kevin is your guy. Kevin is efficient. He was early. We moved my whole room (bed, trunk, half a dozen bags and boxes) from Williamsburg to TriBeCa in 90 minutes. I thought he was bringing a helper, so that I wouldn't have to lift a finger, but alas I changed my appointment time and for some reason I guess that meant no helper, so I ended up lifting a lot of the stuff myself (But Kevin insisted on lifting the heavier stuff himself). Since I was willing to help it was fine BUT if you're not willing to help, make sure and double check he brings a helper ($25/hr more). It was $100 for the whole thing, which is EXTREMELY affordable in my mind. Hassle-free. I would definitely use Kevin's service again 100% and will recommend it to all my friends who want a cheap and reliable mover. read more

Kevin was excellent in regards to making appointments and prompt reply. However, the review is for the actual movers. The guys showed up at my door on time. Great. But it ends there. I am pretty organized. Everything was boxed and ready to go. The guys were slowest movers I have ever hired. They didn't break anything. But they were STONED and way to slow. They drove 20mph on the highway. Clearly they wanted to get paid more than the minimum 2 hours. My friend and I did most of the work. I kicked them out at 2 hours. My boxes were still at the building entrance at that point, but I didn't care. They weren't going to get a penny more. If you want someone efficient and hard working, don't hire these guys. read more
