This is our 3rd move with Metropolis! I've said it before and I'll keep saying it (especially after this move) - I will never move without Metropolis. They are INCREDIBLE. We had a complicated move- we needed two trucks, the trucks needed to be held overnight, my husband had woodworking supplies and I had a voice over booth that needed to be very carefully moved AND to top it off we couldn't start the actual move in to the new place until 4pm the next day! They never batted an eye - from the video walkthrough with Jesse to the incredible team who came for day 1 and day 2... we felt like we were in amazing hands the whole time. Cannot say enough good things about Metropolis. We moved 2x 1BR apartments on the west side of Manhattan to a single 2BR in Dumbo. Initial quote process was thorough and fair - they did video walkthroughs of our spaces to help us build our inventories so we weren't guessing. Pricing is flat rate so no day-of surprises. Both the packing crews and the moving crews were fast, professional and friendly. We were in the midst of renovations in our new apartment, and they were very careful not to damage our new floors and cheerfully worked around painters. They are not the cheapest but you're not going to get any hidden charges, and the service is impeccable. We had a great experience with Metropolis Moving! Our movers were Zach, Ricky, and Tanh. They were super friendly, efficient, and handled our large furniture with care. We had two drop-offs, one at a storage unit in East Flatbush and the other was within the neighborhood of Canarsie. The entire move was done before noon after an 8:30 AM start. I appreciated their flexibility throughout the process. We were able to update our inventory list multiple times as we sold items before the move, and they allow edits right up until 12 PM the day before. Their fast, clear email communication was a lifesaver for me, especially as a mom coordinating a big move on just 30 days' notice. Special thanks to Barry and Corey for all their hard work and seamless coordination throughout the process! Another thing to note is that they also offer packing services. Packing service is $300/hour for three packers (with a two-hour minimum), includes all the packing materials, and they typically pack the night before your move. Honestly, we were so scattered that we missed the chance to book this in time, but we intend to use this service with them the next time we move. My husband hired Metropolis for his parents' move back in May, and when we unexpectedly had to move ourselves this July, he was adamant that we use them again. It's clear now why he was so loyal to Metropolis--they earned it. Also, on a more personal note, I really like their light blue and yellow logo. It's simple, cheerful, and adds a nice touch of personality. We truly appreciated how approachable, organized, and easy to communicate with the entire team was. By the end of the move, it didn't even feel like we hired anyone--it felt like we were moving with the help of friends. Highly recommend them. I only have excellent things to say about Metropolis Moving. I moved locally from one spot in Williamsburg, NYC to another, and had a phenomenal experience. The only thing I would point out that I would like have liked to be mentioned earlier is that there is a 3% fee that covers the payment processing cost. Whatever your quote is, multiply it by 3% - excellent communication with no AI; I was always talking to a real person at the office - extremely fast response times (within 2 hours of an email, and text messages within minutes) - excellent questions and info-gathering so they had accurate tools and packaging to move all my furniture - extremely clear pricing - knowledgeable; I did not have to hand-hold at any point in the move I would like to thank Adam, Eddie, and Steve, my movers, for going above and beyond. Due to my own error, I had more boxes and incorrectly described what was required to breakdown my 4-door armoire - even so Metropolis Moving made sure to send a specialist over with the right tooling (once the movers figured out what was required) so the move was completed the same day. Upon arrival to the drop-off apt, they worked with me to measure out and identify the best way to maximize the space and stage everything. They went above and beyond in every aspect of what someone would want out of their move. I have inspected all furniture, and not a single item was scratched, let alone damaged. I hired Metropolis for a move and paid for packing and unpacking services because I'm recovering from an injury. The hourly packing/unpacking and flat-rate moving tasks ended up being mixed together, which seemed to result in a final cost significantly higher than the original quote, even though no inventory changes occurred. The packing and unpacking felt disorganized and chaotic. I had clearly requested that my bike equipment be kept separate and left packed due to my injury and the risk of losing small parts, but this request was not followed, which added significant time. My bike trainer was also placed precariously on top of an AC unit without any padding, and I now need to inspect it for damage, which is tricky due to my injury, and concerning given the cost and difficulty of repairing it. Many everyday items were unpacked onto high shelves that I cannot easily reach, and much of the unpacking remains incomplete or needs to be redone. Additional issues included significant AC water spilled on wood floors after towels were packed (and no other floor protection put down) and items left behind without my approval, which I had to manage myself. Overall, the move felt disorganized and fell short of professional moving expectations. ETA: because the owner has claimed he waived a stair fee at the new building: before the move, I had emailed the company, "I'm unsure if the service entrance at the new building will involve stairs -- if we could please leave the related price adjustment for that as TBD when we're there." At the actual move-in, it turned out the building has a service ramp, so there were no stairs involved. Charging an additional stair fee at the new building would have been inaccurate. read more

Eddie, Tommy, and John moved us and were all fantastic--fast, careful, and kind. Our stairs were particularly challenging (steep and narrow, with sharp curves) and they managed it well. I had just two weeks to move out of my NYC apartment with three separate drop offs in New Jersey, including a massive massage chair that needed to be disassembled and reassembled. Metropolis Moving helped me move from Connecticut to NYC and they couldn't have made it easier. I asked for a quote online and they were very responsive and friendly, unlike some movers who never reply back. Their price wasn't bad either. I changed the packing list many times and it was never a problem (they allow you to change it up to 24 hours before the scheduled move). On the day of the move, it was unfortunately raining heavily, but the guys still did a great job. Very efficient and strong! They had furniture pads to protect items and even allowed somethings that were not on the packing list to be placed in the truck since there was room. Throughout the move, they were communicative and gave me a heads up when they would arrive or if there were delays. I would definitely use them again. Used these guys again in January and they're still the best. Rick was our driver and there were 2 other guys with him (forgetting their names unfortunately) - they patiently and efficiently packed up an overstuffed 1 bedroom and moved it to the new location with no problems. We ended up having about 40 reusable shopping bags worth of stuff on top of our bins but they didn't flinch and only added a reasonable extra fee. They reconstructed a huge bed frame, helped us take shelves down and remove an A/C (they had included these services in the fee for us ahead of time). The move took about 8 hours but it would have taken me a week on my own. Highly recommend this small business. Really top notch service from getting a quote, communication in planning, to the end of the move. Carefully wrapped furniture and art, respectful, friendly guys. Metropolis Movers are the most unreliable and unprofessional company I've ever had the displeasure to work with. They show up whenever they feel like it - never within the window that they promise - if you happen to be the last call on a Friday night like I was, they will look for any excuse to walk off the job, which is what they did. Metropolis movers showed up hours late which meant we couldn't use the driveway and they had to park on the street. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. I completely forgot to leave this review 2 months ago when Metropolis Moving helped me move my 2 bedroom in Brooklyn to a 1 bedroom in Queens. Wow, they came highly recommended and I was not at all disappointed. I don't have much experience moving, and have never used movers, so I was extra anxious. They were so kind with all of my adjustments and questions, and very transparent on the pricing. Nothing snuck up on me, and they even helped us out with last minute hauling to the curb instead of into the truck. Oh and speaking of trucks, the driving was impressive! My new apartment is around several tight one way streets and I was nervous because the truck was bigger than expected - no problem for these guys. Anyway, the wrapping of all my big items were perfectly executed - they showed up super prepared. I was very thorough in telling them exactly what I had the night before when we were in our final packing stage, and they knew exactly how much wrapping needed to happen. Once they got started, it happened so fast and before we knew it, we were in our new place and had enough energy to celebrate and start unpacking. I had been agonizing over how exhausting the whole thing would be for months but once it was over, I was so relieved. For a couple thousand bucks I still had to make extra trips myself and deal with snotty attitudes. Refusing to take all of my items despite my already agreeing to pay extra for them (in writing) and being told they didn't have enough time to make a couple more rides down the elevator with their giant cart on wheels. Give me a break. Oh wait... that's reminds me... they ALSO damaged several items and left almost everything in the first floor of where I moved into. So I spent days carrying things up the stairs to where they needed to go - and like I said had to make multiple trips with my own car to go get the rest of the things from my old place that easily could have fit in the truck but they refused to take. You're better off renting a truck and paying the dudes outside to help. Complete waste of money. read more

Metropolis is the best moving co in NYC. Hands down. I've worked with them a few times. On my last move, a marble table was damaged in transit. That can happen during moves - but it was a bad situation and I was initially pretty frustrated. The Metropolis team was super communicative - they responded to me same day, looked at a number of options and proactively communicated. Within a few days we agreed to a resolution that was fair. My partner and I recently hired Metropolis Moving for a Brooklyn move. Weeks before the move, the office was very responsive - providing a certificate of insurance and guidance. Day of, the team showed up within the window specified and were efficient and extremely helpful. The price they charged was exceedingly reasonable, especially given they were forced to deal with a very difficult landlord on the premises plus some roadwork at the drop-off location.
