Went in for a check engine light. They found nothing wrong but said that my front brakes and serpentine belt needed to be replaced. I agreed. It was around 1200 for everything. Not shortly after, my serpentine belt starts squealing very loudly upon start-up, and in the cold. My belt never had any issues before, and to be honest, probably could've lasted another 10k miles. I wait a while to see if the belt just needs to be broken in, and I didn't have the time or cash to go back in right away. It was still squealing 5 months later. I ask the shop if they guarantee their service if something ended up being wrong with the parts they install. They said yes, and I explained about the belt. They said I needed a new tensioner, and that it was $500. This was before they even looked at my car. I bring the car in, and ask them to just check the belt first before I drop another 500. They insist it's the tensioner. Mechanic looks at the car, says the belt is too loose and that the tensioner is fine. He shows me the belt and tensioner, then tightens the belt. The manager then keeps trying to sell me on a new tensioner as I'm picking the keys up and leaving. I say-- "not now thanks." I've been driving my car since they tightened the belt, and it has not squealed since. So, in all, they eventually fixed my car, but kept trying to upsell me on stuff I didn't need at the time. I also asked that if the tensioner was so bad why it wasn't replaced when the belt was replaced (as is fairly common practice) and didn't quite receive a straight answer. Needless to say, I won't be bringing my car here again, nor recommend this shop to anybody. They were also 30 minutes late to opening the shop, so don't expect to be on time. Edit: My only issue is that you were so sure it was the tensioner before even looking at my car, you rudely called the mechanic over to "go show her" that it was indeed the tensioner. But then it ended up just being too loose, so then you looked even more the fool. And THEN, you kept trying to sell the tensioner even AFTER it was decided the belt was too loose, and the tightness was fixed. Keyboard warrior over here, responding to every review and trying to sell "tensioners" instead of actually helping customers. My only trust issue is with you. I am perfectly happy with the mechanic that actually fixed my car by tightening the belt and not just blindly changing out the tensioner for another 500. If i could leave no stars i would, i hit a curb on the right passenger side of my car and was told it needed multiple repairs including what i thought was a control arm failure since my steering wheel shifted slightly when i hit the curb. Went to a second hand mechanic & lifted it up & to our surprise nothing was bent or out of the ordinary, had it realigned for $100 bucks and she drove fine afterwards. Please always get a second hand opinion when dealing with shops like these, you have to always babysit them & call them asking if the inspection had been completed the day they say they will call you! All these 5 star reviews come from ignorant people who where to lazy to look elsewhere & who are not mechanically inclined & have absurd money to blow & who have no other choice than to "trust" them on stuff that does not need to be fixed but hey they are "mechanics" surely they must know whats wrong right? wrong... Pretty good customer service and Kevin is a really nice and straight forward guy but one of his mechanics tightened the drain plug for my oil pan so much (had to have used an impact drill because the black paint on the oil pan around the plug was ripped off exposing the metal) that even after a breaker bar, WD40, adjustable wrench, and two different brand sockets the plug still won't budge. I wanted the try my hand in replacing the oil in my vehicle without having to pay someone else to do it but I'm left without an option at this point because I'm afraid of stripping the plug. There's a reason Kevin's Automotive has practically a 5-star rating. First, Kevin is kind, good-humoured, patient, and really listens. Second, they get the job done right the first time. Third, their rates are very reasonable. I have taken my car here on a couple of occasions over the years because I know they'll fix it and that they'll fix it right the first time. That's the other thing with Kevin's Automotive -- I never have to worry that a week later, "something else" will be wrong with my car. One time, after they had finished working on my car, as I was driving back home, my battery light came on. I needed to get a diagnosis to my car and it sat there for a week. Kevin told me it was the catalytic converter. When I called him he said the part wasn't ready and I could still drive it. The diagnosis was $64 but he charged me $400 for it just to sit there for that time. If you work hard for your money and family, I suggest you go somewhere else to get your car fixed. I was having an issue with my truck and took it to the dealer who couldn't tell me what was wrong with it and that I would be better off trading it in. I took it to another shop close to home and they also could not tell me what was wrong with it but they believed it was the cam shaft which wouldn't be worth replacing due to the high mileage on the truck and it being a difficult to work on Hemi. My father-in-law suggested I take it to Kevin and give him a shot, so I did. Not only was he friendly and communicative, he figured out the issue and fixed it for a very reasonable price. Cheap As mentioned in my last review, my car broke down on Thanksgiving Day. I called and left messages at 3 places that were all 4+ stars on Yelp, and only Kevin returned my voicemail. --I'm listening-- Once I made it back into Denver and got my car to his shop, Kevin greeted me out front with a friendly smile and handshake. --I'm interested-- I self diagnosed the issue prior to bringing my car in, and I brought the 2 belts (a/c & alternator) that had visibly broken. After examining the problems, Kevin sent me a picture message showing me the pulley that had shattered and caused the belts to snap. He priced the pulley, and asked me to confirm my new quote. That is HONEST and FORTHCOMING. His initial quote was already cheap, so when I got that picture text with additional issues, I immediately said to myself, "I knew an honest, reasonably priced mechanic was too good to be true." But...when he quoted me the new cost, he didn't add any additional labor or any markup above the parts prices. That's CHEAP. And to top it off, he was able to get my car in and out within 4 hours. That's QUICK. When was the last time I got an update text from a mechanic with pictures attached? Never. When am I going to trust another mechanic in Colorado with my car? Never. I had been experiencing brake issues and a strange burning smell from my older truck, but I needed to find a mechanic in town I could trust. I'd used two other auto care places in town and been ripped off by both. Not wanting to give what could potentially be a large sum of money and time to a business that had already proven undeserving, I opened Yelp, read about multiple places, and found Kevin's Automotive Services. Kevin's not having a single bad review kind of made me skeptical. I thought "Just how many friends does this guy have who are willing to put nothing but glowing remarks on Yelp for him?". It made me pause, but then I read several of the reviews and then my curiosity piqued. Honestly, what changed my mind to go ahead and try his shop was how close it was to my home (so if I had to I could walk to get my truck), and that it wasn't part of a nationwide chain. I also figured we would just start with a diagnostic, and if I didn't like how he handled that I could just continue looking for another shop. I called Kevin this past Saturday (11/30) afternoon and spoke directly to him. He was very professional and listened to what I had to say instead of rushing me off the phone. He scheduled my truck for a diagnostic the following Monday (12/1) morning. Arriving Monday morning there were a good handful of people waiting to drop off vehicles with various issues, and Kevin was behind the desk taking care of each one. He was courteous, patient and despite it being busy - never rushed. He was attentive and spent the time necessary to address each customer accordingly. He checked my truck in, listened to my list of problems, and told me I would know in a few hours what he found. A few hours later he did let me know. I needed new front rotors and pads, new rear drums and shoes, and the rack and pinion system needed to be replaced. What he described fell in line with what I had been experiencing. It was more work than I had hoped, but what he was going to charge to have it all replaced was so affordable he had my dad wishing Kevin's shop was in Colorado Springs. He was given the go to do the work. He was never wishy washy, and that's a relief. He told me what he found and exactly how much it would cost. When I asked to keep the old rack and pinion, he didn't hesitate to fulfill that request. When I asked for an estimate on how long it would take to repair, he said he could have it to me the evening of the next day and that's exactly when I got it back. My truck is performing like it's about 10 years younger. I don't just feel safer driving it, I know I am safer in it. It's like night and day. It's always good to find an honest professional who takes pride in good results, and who isn't wasting time, our money or risking our safety just to make a quick buck. Kevin is the most honest mechanic I've ever met. I know -- honest and mechanic is a longstanding oxymoron. But you would be a plain old moron if you don't see Kevin for your auto repairs. Our Ford Freestyle is a 2005 model that unfortunately has a problematic CVT. Apparently there is no way to fix this particular transmission -- total replacement is the only option at $6000. In my first phone call to Kevin presented alternatives that did not involve paying him. Yes, he turned away a job he thought may be unnecessary. We decided to bring the car in anyway. Kevin was genuine and honest in his assessment. He told us flat out that he thought it would better to invest the $6000 in a new vehicle. Yes! Kevin actually turned away a $6000 auto repair! No stars is my rating!!!Never ever take your car here! I came several times to fix my car. They NEVER have your car ready when they say they would. I spent $2000 and my car isnt fixed. I took my car to the state mechanic and they told me to take it back to Kevin's Automotive to replace a bad sensor they put in. I did just that. His wife was there and said she would call me by 2:00 and let me know the status. It never happened. 6:00 comes around and I call them because I know they are about to close. Once again told me that they needed to do more tests. I said, all you were supposed to do is replace the sensor. Kevin replies, I'm not going to do what another mechanic tells me to do. Dude you weren't able to figure it out the first second time around! This was on a Friday. Again I was upset that my car wasn't ready as promised by his wife. I told him I would have to bring the car back he asked me if he should leave the keys in the car as he was getting ready to close. I said,"yes",however I did not tell him to "lock" it in the door. Okay, so I miscommunicated that. I'll take the blame for it. So I go outside to call AAA. While waiting on hold, I hear a slam behind me. Kevin, the owner jumped in his car and pulled off and his wife just briefly walk past me without saying anything and got into her car and drive off. Shame on her too because shes a women. Mind you it was about 6:30 at night and it was dark and cold. They just left me standing out there. The people at the Circle K across the way asked me to come in and told me I didn't have to stand out in the cold. They offered me free coffee and a chair to sit in while waited an hour for AAA. While I was on the phone talking to my daughter, Kevin the owner walks in buying some donuts and chips or whatever. I approached him and said, "Thanks for leaving me standing out there" he waved his hand as if to dismiss me and said," people have lives" Really Kevin? This is how you treat your customers? The workers in the Circle K told me that that they'd have heard nothing but negative feedback about this company. They are witnesses as to how he treated me and they were not happy. He never called me to apologize or fix my car. They are overpriced and unreliable. The same day I was there, there was a police officer taking a report by his wife about another unsatisfied customer that was threatening them. Go figure!Beware!Runaway! Just ask circle k about them. Kevin's has done it again! I had noticed my car was a bit whiny and rattling recently but I don't know much about cars. I went into get a routine brake replacement at another shop and they called me and asked if I knew my car was rattling, which of course I did. Then they told me it was my alternator about to give out! Don't get my wrong, I love my brake shop, but they quoted me almost $500! I knew someone who could do a lot better. I went out and bought my alternator from AutoZone: $170 + $50 refundable core charge and I had a $20 off a $100 purchase so $150 before the core charge. Called Kevin next, guess what he quoted me? $80. One hour of labor. Perfect for me! Went in a few days later, my daughter was with me again, everyone was very hospitable and nice as usual. My car was out in 2 hours, 1 to cool down, 1 for work, as quoted. And again, I was quoted $80 and I left paying $80. My car sounds and works AMAZINGLY. Quoted by Brakes Plus: $500. Amount I Paid Using Kevin: $230. I could not be happier. Thanks again Kevin and everyone else, I hopefully won't have to be back but with my car, more than likely will, haha! read more

Well, Ratchet took a well-needed vacation after this past year's affairs with the Decepticons (no spoilers - just get to a theater this summer). Optimus was pretty war-scuffed himself; thus began the Great Obligatory Crusade for Auto Repair Technician mission (GO-CART mission). Being new-er to the metro Denver/Aurora area, I was weary of letting any old grease monkey - er... grease human - look under my hood. Optimus is surprisingly a little shy when not monologue-ing during battle. However, on a recommendation from a human companion, I checked out this guy's tiny shop. GLAD I DID. He took damn good care of me - twice. First time, I needed to pass the dreaded Colorado emissions standards and was afraid I wouldn't. He checked me out, gave me an A, and sent me on my way for a FRACTION (really, a minute fraction, too) of the cost I was getting from other repair shops in the area. Second time, I really needed some work done. Not to get too specific (don't wanna gross you out), let's just say my 'calipers' were barely hanging on for dear life; if they'd broken off, they could have jammed up my front tires and dear old Optimus would not be writing this review. Rodimus Prime would have that honor! Not to mention a few other nasty details. He patched me up with brand new, ahem, 'calipers' and took care of a few other issues as well. Let me tell you, humans, this is no ordinary mechanic. Kevin and his main employee (sorry, forgot his name, but he recommended a fantastic fish'n'chips shop in Denver, which I'll review later) took so much damn good care of me that Ratchet's gonna have to convince me why I don't just take the entire team to Kevin's Automotive Services always from now on! BONUS: Afterward, I called several other repair shops (independent as well as brand-name) in the area to price out exactly what I'd gotten done. Optimus will not lie to you: IT WAS HALF THE GOTDANG PRICE I'D HAVE GOTTEN ANYWHERE ELSE, AND MUCH HIGHER QUALITY, PLUS GUARANTEED FOR 12 MONTHS OR 12,000 MILES!!!! Don't believe me? Try 'em.
