We are local, been in a few times and loved the popcorn. Last visit tonight despite posted hours on the actual door saying closed at 5, the clerk had the door locked at 4:40 and said she was the only one there do had to close. Not huge but we headed over specifically for popcorn fix I'll just find somewhere else to get popcorn going forward St George's st was hopping. read more

Kernel Poppers - Hours as posted on door - Popcorn Shops Near Me - Saint Augustine, Florida

I enjoyed this shop. We sampled 6 flavors and bought some. This popcorn shop makes the flavors and packages different sizes out of large bulk tubs. I'm always concerned it is going to be stale but none of our 6 were. All were crisp. They had 105 flavors on display. My biggest criticism was the older gent that was waiting on us had a very "I don't really care if you buy it or not" attitude. First we asked if we could try samples. He replied, "Yeah. You can try a couple". We were a bit put off, feeling like he was pegging us as freeloaders. He did not smile or seemed like he wanted to be at work. It's a popcorn shop man! Snap out of it!!! Prices aren't for the weak. $80 for a party bag? Yikes. Rent must be pretty damn high. read more

Walking around, I stumbles upon this little shop and had to go in. There are over 100 flavors that range from the typical white cheddar to unusual like coconut curry and key lime pie. The little shop was quite busy, but we were helped right away. You can sample what ever flavors you want while trying to decide. We samples quite a few different kinds and ended up leaving with a huge bag of different flavors. The good thing is you can choose from multiple different size bags, including a kiddo size, which is perfect if you just want a little bit. The Dorito popcorn was my absolute favorite followed with the birthday cake. They do ship, so you can have your favorite flavor sent to you. While the popcorn is delicious, the staff could have been a little more friendly which is why I only gave them 4 stars. The first young girl who was helping us walked away without saying anything and we had to wait for someone else to finish our order. There also seemed to be some confusion and disorganization behind the counter. We did try to strike up some conversation but it seemed forced. Overall though, the popcorn outweighed the less than stellar staff. If you find yourself walking down St. George Street, I would recommend you stopping in. I don't see this as a place would specifically go downtown for, but if i was in the area I would purchase again. read more

Staff was super nice and introduced us to so many flavors that I would have never thought of trying. We bought a mix of Carmel and cheddar called the Chicago mix... sooo goood. Would have never tried it if they hadn't let us try so many... great place and will visit again! Please stop in! read more

Popcorn fanatics rejoice, if you're craving something with a caramel crunch, or fruity coating, or even a savory cheese, Kernel Poppers has the variety you're looking for. Rows upon rows of options from the more mundane to those you may not even have considered, and thankfully they're always willing to offer a sample if you're uncertain about committing to an entire bag or tin. As a serious popcorn addict, it is pretty difficult to pass by when in St. Augustine without at least "poppping in" for a bag (or two). S'mores to Cool Ranch Doritos, even Beer Cheese Soup, they certainly don't fall short of creativity. While I appreciate the variety, my biggest complaint is that even with a plethora of options, many sweeter flavors leave me feeling like they may put me into a diabetic coma. The artificially bright fruits are often cloying, and the past couple times I've gone the popcorn itself is a touch stale. Obviously to offer so much variety not everything can be made fresh, and the "sealed" bins can only do so much to preserve the integrity of the kernels of gold within, but compared to some other popcorn vendors I find it to be a more frequent occurrence. Anyways, if you're looking for a snack definitely consider swinging off St. George Street to visit Kernel Poppers. Sure some others may be "butter" but they do have an impressive selection of flavors and you're likely to find something to tickle your fancy. read more

Kernel Poppers offers a large selection of gourmet popcorns. They have cheese, spicy, candied, chocolate and nuts. They let you taste whatever you like from their shelves, which had like 60-70 different flavors. We ordered cookie and creme, salted caramel, jalapeno cheese and sour cream.and onion. Their jalapeno popcorns have real kick and if you love spicy, go for it! I also loved the cookie and cream. You can mix differnet flavors in a same bag. Unfortunately our cookie and creme and salted caramel were melted because of the hot weather in Florida. The question is how long does it last till it gets stale? I am assuming, under the humid blazing Floridan weather, probably not that long. I know I ate mine real fast. The service was great! They will help you pick flavors :) read more

So, this place is kinda neat but it kinda weirds me out.... They have flavors of popcorn that I would never have thought - I just get stuck on the "stale popcorn" idea..... In my world - as soon as popcorn cools - it's stale. Who wants to eat stale popcorn?!?!?!? We did buy a bag of dark chocolate, caramel sea salt and the flavor is amazing - but it's still stale..... my husband disagrees with my review but.... We have to have some differences. If you like gourmet popcorn - you would enjoy this little spot. The staff was very helpful and friendly. and the choices are endless.... read more

This place is like the MECCA for all things gourmet popcorn. I stopped in with some friends , one of whom made a purchase. The wall has bins and bins of random flavors of popcorns like pizza flavored and salt/vinegar. Some you would never think of putting together. If you have a hard time making decisions, you may have to let the employees make suggestions. Or you can plan on being there for hours and hours. The great thing is that the employees let you taste so you don't walk away with popcorn you're not crazy about. My friend purchased a bag of caramel seasalt white chocolate popcorn. HOLY HECK, that stuff was good. I almost made a mad dash back to purchase a bag . Almost. Check this place out while you're on George St. for a unique snack or even a great gift for the popcorn fanatic in your life! read more

Yum! This place was such a find in St, Augustine. We stopped in, drawn in by someone standing out front giving away samples. There are so many flavors, stored in giant tubs that they will pull down and give you samples from. Everything from the normal white cheddar to key lime pie to kit Kat flavored. We tried a few things. White cheddar - great, would have been my favorite if I didn't discover.. .. Beer cheese soup - oh my gosh amazing. Light on a beer flavor, very cheesy, and addicting. It was fresh and easy to eat - not many kernels. Cherry coke - tasted like cherry coke! We got this one too as it wasn't too fruity and the coke flavor was fun. Key lime pie - OK - a little too fake lime flavoring for my taste to be mixed with graham cracker. Loaded baked potato - buttery and good with a light smoke flavor. A bit of cheese flavor in there too. The popcorn was fresh, and stayed fresh for about two-three days for the cheese flavor, more for the fruit. It was still good a bit stale - I mean I still loved it! read more

I have been here once before while visiting Saint Augustine, well I had a trip for work this week to visit again, training classes during the day with my nights free to do as I wanted, I paid for an Uber from my hotel down to the historic district Monday night and before eating dinner planned to stop by to pick up a few bags, closed sign on the door well before their posted closing time, well I figured things happen so I got another Uber Wednesday night to head down and grab dinner and popcorn! But once again got down to kernel poppers well before closing time only to be greeting by a closed sign and locked door... I understand it's hard to find good employees but this is supposed to be the tourist busy season?! read more

Everything is great about the popcorn. The owner (I'm assuming he was the owner) was awesome! Giving us free samples of all different flavors. The reason I'm giving only 3 stars is because the lady behind the counter was very rude. I changed my mind at the register and instead of getting only 1 medium bag I went ahead and did the buy 2 get 1 free. Also added 4 sodas. And she acted like it was such a big deal that at the register I changed my mind. Not sure what her deal was but she was rude and basically rolled her eyes and huffed. read more

Although the girl attending us tried to be helpful, no one was able to provide an allergy chart or an ingredient list. No one working was able to give us accurate ingredient information. As a vegetarian the attendant wasn't able to give me a list or a confident answer regarding the ingredients for ANY popcorn. After asking her 'manager' she assured me that only 'Loaded Baked Potato" was not vegetarian, later I noticed that they had 'Cool Ranch Dorito' the attendant assured me that it was vegetarian. Clearly no one employed here has ANY real knowledge of their ingredient because COOL RANCH DORITOS ARE NOT VEGETARIAN. I did not feel confident in eating anything in this store and if I had any real allergy I WOULD NOT eat anything here. At the very least give us an ingredient book. What a shame. read more

My family and I were very excited to try this place. Many of our friends had already been and reveled about it. When we arrived, we were so excited to see the variety of crazy flavors. As many of the other reviews have stated they were able to sample as many flavors desired, we too were excited to try several. However, after about five or six samples, we were told that we needed to make our decision, because she could not allow us to try everything. At that point I told her thank you, but we have made our decision. We then left without purchasing at least five bags of popcorn. I am not sure why this particular female employee was so bothered by us, but the store would have made a lot more off of us than what it lost in samples. I hope the owner has a conversation about what he lost today. He/she not only lost our business, but also our recommendation. Good luck to you. read more

Excellent place for amazing popcorn flavors. We went there twice during our week long visit. To address the comments about popcorn going stale after you pop it...I agree that is what happens at home but they coat the popcorn with flavor glazes and powders right away and that in itself keeps the popcorn fresh. We found the attendants helpful and kind. Our favorite flavors are rainbow, blueberry muffin, kettle corn, loaded baked potato, and traditional caramel. I recommend giving them a try. read more

Kernel poppers is any popcorn fans dream come true. As someone who has never been fond of popcorn, I must say it was mine as well. There is an unbelievable selection of flavors. Every flavor you could imagine. The staff was incredibly kind, for they must've offered us a dozen sample flavors before we made our final selection. I chose the "buffalo wings and blue cheese". Mt friends chose the "s'mores". Both packed with so much taste, you don't even feel like you're eating popcorn. With such exceptional prices and generous portions, it would be a shock to see anyone who wasn't beyond satisfied. read more

We wanted to give a big thanks to Tanya at the Saint George st st. Augustine location. WLS review This place has a wall of buckets filled with flavored popcorns. As a popcorn addict I was excited to try them all. They have a special of Buy 2 medium or larger and get your third free of = or lesser value. With all the flavors there you can ask to try them before you choose what you want to take home which was great! The staff was wonderful and the popcorn smells were great. A medium bag will hold me over for at least 4 sittings in my tiny tummy. Well worth the visit if you're a popcorn addict or want to try different flavored popcorns! read more

Dan, the owner, fantastic! Great variety, great tasting popcorn my favorites by far are the peanut butter and chocolate and the beer cheese and soup wIth hot wings. $43 I spent; 2 med gourmet, 1 med cheese and 1 sm gourmet. The only caveat would be that they don't accept American Express which is fine when you know in advance but is pretty inconvenient once you're ready to make a purchase. Sampling is also a very good way to decide which flavors you must go home with. read more

Staff was unorganized and kinda pushy. One associate was getting overwhelmed by customers and the phone ringing off the hook. She cursed in front of guests (one child). They also didn't mention the difference between tin sizes and we ended up paying double what we wanted. Oh well. But yeah, popcorn is great, service here was not so great. read more

Kernel Poppers was a wonderful tourist treat. I went there this past weekend during the 450 Celebration and was not disappointed. The wall is stacked 5 rows high with barrels of gourmet popcorn. Donna assisted me in selecting just the right flavors to take home. You can ask for samples of all of the flavors. I decided on Samoas, Hot Cheddar and Chicago Style. The chocolate covered popcorns were better than the cheese/butter flavored ones. The cheese ones had a plastic-toxic type flavoring to them. All in all, this was a wonderful place with outstanding employees who were helpful in selecting delicious popcorn. read more

Kernel Poppers - So many popcorn options! - Popcorn Shops Near Me - Saint Augustine, Florida

This place is great if you enjoy flavored popcorn! It's definitely not a typical popcorn place from experience. They literally have over 100 flavors and some of the options they have are really cool, for example they have everything from crab legs to Oreo cheesecake! Plus there are several options as far as size and all to choose from, and you can do half and half as well! At the door they always have a sample to try and once you're at the don't you can sample two more flavors before choosing. The hardest part is definitely choosing a flavor because there are so many and all of them are probably amazing, you can choose from gourmet, candies and cheese! I decided on blueberry muffin and cotton candy, I was going to do half and half but the lady recommended that I do two kiddie sizes instead because it saved me money which I though was really friendly and rare for someone to do, but it was appreciated! So if you're out on St.George St. this Place is a Must try. It will blow you away even is you don't like popcorn! read more

I really love popcorn. A lot. Probably more than a normal human should. So when I was browsing around St. Augustine while visiting, I was more than excited to find an entire store of JUST popcorn. This little place is tucked along the main walk way near all of the other restaurants and shops. It would be easy to miss if you weren't looking for it. Upon entering, it is a bit overwhelming. There is an entire wall behind the counter with what appears to be hundreds of flavors. They have the standard cheese-type flavors, then simple sweet ones, and then the gourmet flavors, which are the heavier coated or complex seasonings. Just a few of the stand outs that caught my eye (either with a thought of "mmmmm" or "oh gross") were samoas, buffalo blue cheese, Kit Kat, dill pickle, sirloin steak, hot white cheddar, and beer cheese soup. I was so anxious to try things, and I had a few questions. Here is where the problem started. This place is a cool concept, and there is so much going on, people are bound to have questions. However, the teenage girl that "helped" me was anything but helpful. She was extremely rude and actually seemed like she would have preferred to be anywhere else but there. I tried to ask what her favorite flavors were and what were ones I should maybe stay away from, and she answered, but with a scoff and an attitude. No suggestions or assistance on what would go well together if I combined flavors in one bag (which you can do, I found out from the sign.) At one point, we needed to move down so that other customers could also stop at the counter, which made perfect sense. She snapped at us, "I need you guys to move down so other customers can get in." It was a reasonable request made in the most snide way possible. She made my friend feel so uncomfortable that I ended up just ordering something quickly and running out rather than staying to get the full extent of what I wanted. That means I walked out spending $10 rather than the $60 I would have for the cool tin with 14 flavors. Poor customer service will do it every single time. The prices are definitely higher than what you'd pay for basic popcorn, but I think for what it is, it's worth it. The simpler flavors are cheaper, with the gourmet flavors a bit more. I am not sure if I'd return or not. The popcorn I picked up really is delicious, but being made to feel like I'm not welcome makes me very hesitant. read more

We visit St Augustine about once a month and usually pop in for some popcorn each time. We get the buy two get one free medium size deal each time. I always get the Chicago mix and this time was no different. I don't get a sample because I know what it tastes like. When I went to pay, I noticed that the employees were scooping samples into customers' hands and that sometimes the scoop touched the hands of the customer. That same scoop was then used to scoop more popcorn! The next day, I get about a fifth of the way into the bag when I have to pull a medium length, grayish dark hair out of my mouth that is NOT mine! After running to the trash can and spitting out the popcorn in my mouth, I send them a private Facebook message letting them know about the hair and the scoops getting touched my customers and then used to scoop popcorn but never hear from them. It's been almost two weeks so I figured by leaving a review here they will finally acknowledge it and make some changes. My popcorn was "free" so to speak because of the buy two get one deal so I was not asking for anything but for them to make some changes on how the popcorn is handled and maybe some hairnets to be used. read more

I was visiting family from out of town and took my three nieces here after they raved about how good the popcorn was. We go inside to sample a few before I was about to buy each of them a bag and myself. The girl behind the counter was so nice but then an older gentleman comes out from the back and yells at us for sampling popcorn and yells at her for giving us popcorn saying "don't touch that, what are you thinking?!" He then starts having an aggressive conversation with her and we feel uncomfortable so we leave. This is absolutely no way to run a business or treat employees. I would never come back here for the stale popcorn or to be yelled at by an old man. No respect at all. read more
