OMG! CANDY GALORE!!! I felt like I had gone back in time, like the 60's. I saw candy that you don't see in a typical convenience store nowadays. They had it all!!!! I bought an assortment of candy to share, and a Zero bar to share as well. WOW! I am so glad I found this place. The Cashier was just as nice, helpful and friendly as can be. On my way out, a box of Boston Baked beans caught my eye, so I will go back soon and pick some of those up. The shop is near the courtyard by the St. George Inn. It's under some of the rooms. So I had this place bookmarked for a while and I made it a point to visit when we were in St. Augustine this last trip. It is actually located in the same store as Pepper Palace so we killed two birds with one stone. I read previous reviews and everyone had great contributions so that sold me. I am not sure how crazy popular St. Augustine has become in the past year or two for families but it seems like families took a really long wrong turn away from Disney and headed here. Anyway, this place is really small. I mean like maybe can fit 10 people maximum at a time. I expected unusual finds of candy and I did find some unique candy for sure! I really did not have anything specific I was looking for but was willing to spend money if I found something. Unfortunately, there were too many kids standing around like zombies and it made it really difficult to browse and shop. I was feeling too crowded so I made my way towards Pepper Palace. I intend to come back but only when there are not so many people. The selection was good but I think there could be more unique finds and a little more variety. They had bulk options, but not many. There was of course plenty of packaged candy that many of us are familiar with. There was also slushees, smoothies, and drinks behind the counter. Next time I really want to look at that. read more

No trip to St Augustine would be complete without a trip to the Black Parrot. In fact, you should start your journey here. It's 3 stores under one roof with the candy store being in the back behind all of the hot sauces. Located on the north end of St George St, it would be best place to start your trip and here's why: They sell a tumbler for $8.95 which gives you a choice of frozen beverages. More importantly, refills are only 50 cents! I had the strawberry kiwi, mango & pina colada combo. I got a refill every time we passed and more candy...of course. The candy choices are vast and you will have a tough time deciding. Multiple visits are almost a necessity. Prices are reasonable and they even sell the classic candy jars. It's best to get one and fill it up with your favorite candy for your home. Sue is from Illinois and couldn't be any nicer. Her whimsical posters are worth the visit alone. Go soon and go often. This really is one of my favorite "old-time" candy stores; but, in another review, you will see that it may have been dethroned... more to follow. As soon as we got to St Augustine, my daughter and I made a beeline to The Black Parrot Candy Shoppe. We went inside and started stocking up on treats. I tend toward the gummy treats; but, settled on Australian Licorice on this visit, while my daughter got some fruit-flavored "whips" that had a chewy exterior and a soft filling inside. I don't remember the name; but, she loved them, sharing some with me and my wife. We really enjoy shopping here. As always, the cashier was very friendly and very helpful. My daughter was hot, so she ordered an icy drink, which the cashier dispensed. It was a bargain; and, so sweet, cold, and refreshing! read more

This review is for the mango slushie only. Just don't get it! It didn't taste like mango and just wasnt good. My friends tasted it to help me figure out what it was, one thought it was more like peach, another thought it was maybe more like yellow gatorade, I can't tell what it was, I all know it was pretty terrible and that I won't be back. read more

This place is tremendous. It occupies the same space as a bath bomb store and a hot sauce store, which was the only reason we realized it was there, but once we walked back and checked it out, it was like a trip down memory lane! The had candies in stock that I haven't seen in years, and amazingly, for a really good price. The lady who works there is super friendly and helpful too. Super cute candy store, with very reasonable prices and tons of selection. Besides normal and vintage candy, they have some different stuff as well (chocolate grasshoppers anyone?). Their mix and match candy bags are just really something you can't beat for the price. These candies are set up in jars, like a vintage candy store. Things are clearly marked, but younger children will still need help. Amuse your kids or yourself, you're sure to find something here that everyone will agree on. read more

One of the best candy shops we have been too. Has everything you can think of even hard to find candy. Also, has candy bars and the dates they were released. My children loved this place. I am a St. Augustine local,so take it from me--this place is special! My son, Zealand, and I are regulars that go to this candy shop. Susan is the nicest lady and really makes you feel at home. She is always going out of her way to get to know her customers, and she really makes an effort to know the kids! Her employees are very nice as well. Stopped into this little candy shop and what a find! All of the candy I loved as a kid ... candy cigarettes, squirrel nut zippers, Charleston chews and so much more!
