This place is special. If you love hot sauces -- mild to extra hot, this place is your sanctuary of satanic fire, making you burn with desire. I walked inside and I was in fiery heaven. The store allows you to try multiple sauces with plastic spoons that come out of a dispenser. I tried hot sauces, wing sauces, bbq sauces, teriyaki sauces, and other delightful sauces of all heat levels. They were all delicious and brought solid levels of heat and spice. I ended up buying 10 bottles of various sauces to where they had a promotion where I could take home an additional three (3) bottles for free. All were fantastic purchases. I spent a small fortune but it was worth it for the sake of spiritual purity and serenity, heated up for maximum endorphin rush. I have been meaning to visit here since we started coming to St. Augustine and we finally made it a point to go. I always grab the coupon books when we are in town because we go to some of the places and I always fold over the page for pepper palace. The coupon gets you a free bottle of hot sauce with purchase of $10+. We walked in on a Monday and it was really busy. When we were able to get to the sample bottles, it was overwhelming. There were so many bottles of sauce, I thought there were duplicates. Nope! I decided to start from the right side and work my way around the bar. They provide you with tortilla chips located in 2 different jars on the counters. I did not count how many I tried but there were a lot. I was daring and tried hot sauces that were rated 7 on the scales. Yup, that was hot lol. I finally made my way towards the end of the bar and went back to the 5 or 6 choices I had. I did not want to buy a lot because we literally have like 15 different hot sauces at home. I narrowed them down to three and made my way to the register. I inquired about the Napalm horseradish because I love horseradish (I ate it out of the jar as a kid). The girl did not provide information or offer a sample. I submitted my coupon and received my free bottle. The total was about $20. Not too bad but really expensive you compare to supermarket prices. Me and the hubs really enjoy coming here. They have a fantastic selection of hot sauce, salsa's, dips, BBQ sauces, marinades, etc. The staff here is always super friendly! They have small bowls set out of different flavors of products, which you can try with a tortilla chip or by itself. They offer this so you can "try before you buy". Their flavors range from mild to extremely hot, but the staff will be sure to let you know what their recommendations are if you are interested in anything in particular. They also have milk products, bottled water and soda available for sale in case you try something a little to hot for your liking ;). I have also seen some of the men here do a "sample" of the ghost pepper chili hot hot sauce. This one apparently is supposed to knock you off your socks (hence why I say I have seen others do it and have not participated myself, haha). It is very entertaining watching them do this taste test! My father was visiting from CA and wanted to take a gift pack home to family who has a very high tolerance for heat. We were excited to get some goodies here when we walked in. It's always fun to taste test different hot sauces. This is a nice place to stop and check out. The BBQ with heat 10 on the 2nd rack was probably the best tasting. Pepper Palace has relatively limited variety of hot sauces compared to other hot sauce stores I've been in other cities. They put the heat scale numbers on the sample, but don't expect it to be progress from mild to spicy. In my opinion after trying most of the sauces today, the heat 0 through 7 are mild, heat 8 is medium, and 9 and 10 are the spicy ones. Also makes no sense to me why a place with pepper in it's name would have so many sauces with heat 0. read more

They still seem to be doing well here in historic St. Augustine. The prices have gone up several dollars per bottle over the years, but the selections continue to be high quality. I don't mind paying a bit more as long as it remains a decent value. This trip I upped the hot sauce heat level from a scorpion pepper sauce to a Carolina reaper pepper sauce. I saw the sign and knew this store just had to be amazing. I mean, how could it NOT be if it is a whole store full of HOT PEPPER SAUCES! Oh lordy thank you for bringing me to pepper heaven. Do you like hot sauces made with Jalapenos? Habaneros? Ghost Peppers? Seriously, you never find good Ghost Pepper sauces anywhere! Yup they do have that and so much more. We also got an amazing taste of the hottest most glorious Horseradish I have ever tasted in my life, I had a smidgen, just a teeny smidgen and I saw Jesus standing before me in all his glory. That stuff is so good and hot it should be illegal. True story.I swear. Then we tried a myriad of other sauces, they had at least 30 you could try plus the makers of this amazing peach, cranberry, pepper chutney that was TO DIE FOR were there offering samples. I already had the Chutney and Horseradish in the basket when my little one popped out with "Mom my nose is bleeding!!" I asked the owner if he could lend us the bathroom, and lo and behold the bathroom was in another building so he grabbed the keys hiked us over and waited for us to come out (it took a good 10minutes, poor thing) to make sure she was OK. Service like this is rare. In the meantime my hubby got the two items but we really had to take our daughter somewhere to rest as it was about 105 degrees. The products they offer are top notch home made amazing delicious sauces and the service? Above and beyond anything I would have ever expected. This is definitely THE PLACE for any pepper lover, they have just about every type of hot sauce there is, with all kinds of pepper. The best part, however, is that you can try anything in the store. There are chips and crackers and sampler bottles all over the place, so you can test your tolerance as much as you want. We spent a good deal of time in the store and by the time I left, my tongue was on fire and my wallet was lighter. Pepper Palace is located a short walk from the Castillo near the City Gates of Old Saint Augustine. Situated on a corner, its unassuming sign does not do it justice. Pepper Palace offers -- without question -- the most wonderful collection of hot sauces salsas and related condiments and it is a treat to visit. Based in Gatlinburg, TN, each Pepper Palace is independently owned and operated. The Saint Augustine operation is family owned and the proprietors offer customer service that is second to none. I visited Pepper Palace last week on a short visit to Saint Augustine and I wish that we had a location hear in Orlando. After browsing, and sampling, we settled on several of the stores branded salsas and hot sauces and each has been a treat. The Five Pepper Hot Salsa, in particular, is worthy of mention as it is both flavorful and hot and has gone well with just about everything we have served at home since our return. Fortunately, Pepper Palace offers a mail order option so that we can restock, but each time we visit Saint Augustine, we will be stopping by to try more. This place is crazy cool/ Little big shop full of hot, spicy, mild, hard to find sauces and you will be shocked when you walk in...just full of options. My best friend was on a war path for psycho soy since she had it in Key West a few years back and almost cried when the guy put a bottle in her hands. A MUST SEE! They have literally hundreds of different hot sauces in here AND YOU CAN TRY THEM!!! Although some of the prices for these hot sauces could scare away some tight-pocket tourists like myself (hahaha cheap bastards), it is definitely a sight to see! The most exciting part is to read the outrageous labels of these hot sauces! They even have a small section that has a curtain and has a sign that says 'must be 18 to peek' ... and for good reasons! If you have a kid, don't let them look in there because there are some really raunchy butt-nasty stuff in there, although hilarious, still butt-nasty. So, go and check it out! If you're traveling by air and you have no check in bags, make sure you buy a bottle that is no more than 3 oz to comply with the carry on policies :) and IF you do have plans on trying some of their hottest hot sauce, better be prepared to have some drinks on you... or you can buy a gelatto or an ice cream around the corner! HAH! we got a peach and heat, a carrot and heat, some queso, some iguana, and some faves she suggested. I would've gotten some pepper jelly, but bought some of that earlier in the trip. then we said, you really would clean up, if you were in new orleans... and guess what? her husband just came back from nola, and made a bid to open there. Okay, so I am a fan of the hot stuff; and, was excited to try Pepper Palace, which is located within the same structure as the candy store. But, I couldn't find the crackers to chips to sample the sauces, and simply asked up front. The young man was quite abrupt, telling me it was "self service" and, the chips were at the front. I tried two wing sauces, which didn't seem too bad... Mega Garlic and Ghost Pepper. However, when we had them on our wings at home, they were HOT, HOT, HOT!!! The same young man rang me up with an, "is that all?" question. I'm in love with this place, especially the plethora of yummy sauces to sample. I once came in and tried a drop of an 8, since the employee warned me to. He was right, it was blazing hot! My only concern was today when we visited, the staff was not as welcoming as usual. Not sure if it was close to closing time, but we were in there a good five minutes before being acknowledged, and the two dudes behind the counter were only speaking to themselves, so they weren't very busy, lol.
