We have always loved Keon's for the food and great "dinner for two" deals. And, then we went vegan. At a glance, you could tell the menu was not vegan-inspired, nor vegetarian (outside of salads). After a quick talk with the server, the owner arrived and assured us that his chef would be happy to accommodate our needs. He asked if there was anything on the menu we might want to use as a jumping off point so we went with a pasta selection and let the chef take over. They NAILED it! I hate having to revert to pasta (or worse, a salad) when dining out but at least they made an effort and a very successful one at that. I'm giving only four stars because I think restaurants need to think beyond gluten-free menu items and start considering the variety of dietary needs out there. C'mon, Keon's! You obviously have a talented chef and an involved owner! Let's review that menu and get some real options on there for vegetarians and vegans! read more

I wanted to go to Keon's tonite with my DH for a night w/o kids (teens) . We have been in the past...last year. It was great THEN...as for tonite...eh..not so great. Sat at the bar. Ok no prob. There was a scent of smokiness or maybe cigar smoke or mustiness in the interior. Very disturbing to husband but he didn't want to leave. Drinks excellent...salad..ok..they split the Caesar for us but when you find brown leaves you think, how did they miss that? My fish was over cooked. The bread they brought was under cooked. No butter served with bread..hummus was..delicious and garlicky but hubby likes butter. Pepper mill did not work. Hubby's shrimp in his 3 brothers was "fishy" . Overall the place felt dirty, grimy, and same menu as last year...boring! Ugh..should've spent our hard earned $'s elsewhere : ( When it's good it's very very good but when it's bad...you just don't want to return. Damn! So sad. read more

This is one of those restaurants that you want to get a reservation for even on a weeknight. They even book their bar so beware of that. It's a little pricey but if you get the Groupon it is well worth it. Their wine nights are a pretty good deal too. I have yet to have a bad meal here and I've been at least half a dozen times. (Probably more like 8 or 9). Last time I got the duck and it was fabulous. Service is good. Nothing to rave about but no complaints either. Nice thing is that you'll see the owner in there clearing tables and doing whatever needs to be done. It is a lazy meal restaurant, so be prepared to spend some time. You don't get in and out of here quick. Martinis are excellent but small and cost a lot for their size. It's small, dimly lit and tight. It's a small space and they've packed all the tables they can in there. Can't really blame them for that but if you're looking for a bit more privacy, go elsewhere. Decor is otherwise nice. Recently dined at Keon's in Haverhill. Overall a great experience. Everything we had was excellent except for the quality of the duck breast which I had. My wife had the mushroom ravioli which was outstanding. But best of all was the service we received at the bar, attended by Erin. I had to stay overnight in Haverhill for business and I was looking for a nice healthy salad to bring back to my hotel with me. The reviews for the restaurant looked pretty good and the menu even better. I ordered the spinach salad and added grilled shrimp. $22 later...I am less than satisfied. The menu told a story of a gourmet salad but I got limp baby spinach, 3 shrimp, and a cup of oil for dressing. If you are looking for a healthy salad option, do not go here! read more

Love this place!!! Been there three times over the past couple of months because it's so great. Friend had the beet salad, it was fantastic! I had the haddock with crab on top, perfectly cooked, lots of flavor over super creamy and delicious mashed potatoes. Service is also excellent. Good food but the blond bartender texted all night and not serving us ( we sat at the bar) was unacceptable also both hostess and bartender kept touching their hair. YUCK!!!! Causal atmosphere with terrific food. I love the bar and the one muted TV, very tasteful. The lobster and crab ravioli app was warm and filled with flavor and left us craving for more. Our main entrees, duck breast and angus burger were cooked as ordered. Definitely will be back for another cozy date night. Make reservations in advance it's a small place. OMG I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Seriously it really produces some excellent food. While the menu may be limited, everything that comes out of the kitchen is quality. I have been numerous times now and my fiance and I are NEVER disappointed. The last time they featured Austrailian rack of lamb and it was to die for. The lamb cooked to pure perfection, melted in my mouth. The sauce was delicious, the risotto cooked perfectly. It was one of those meals that make you sit and just smile upon first bite. We discovered this little gem when I first moved up to NH to live with my boyfriend. We have been frequenting there ever since. Oh and they also have an ongoing special where you get a bottle of wine and two entrees for 59? I think, if memory serves, which is a killer deal. Granted the wine offerings are slim, but seriously, it doesn't matter to me. The food is great and the owner is so friendly. He was so warm and welcoming. This place is on the smaller side and very cozy, great for a date night! And I also love that the servers never rush you along, it is a very leisurely dining experience. We're in Haverhill occasionally, saw Keon's, were attracted to it's cozy look and cool blue entry. Finally got there a couple of weeks ago and were duly impressed. Menu is diverse, food was perfectly and artfully prepared, atmosphere is comfortable with a nice UK pub feel, and the service was beyond reproach! The mid-week special (two entrees plus bottle of wine for $59) cannot be topped and should not be missed!!! Kudos to both owner and manager....we were impressed by your special attention to customers and detail. We will be back! read more

My husband and I went in last night and were pleased to discover that they were offering a "wine week" dinner option: three courses with a 5 oz glass of wine paired for each course for $29 per person. We had the Korean bbq egg roll and wild mushroom ravioli for the first course, a wedge salad for the second (my husband doesn't like salad so did not get this course), and orange chicken piccata over pappardelle and tenderloin beef meatloaf with mashed potatoes for the third course. I went to Keon's tonight to unwind and have a simple glass of wine. I'm sorry that I did. The staff is g react. As soon as I walked in, I was attended to. I asked for a glass of Chardonnay. I was offered the house brand or Kendall Jackson. I chose the KJ. SHAME ON ME!!!! When I asked for my tab for a single glass of KJ Chard, I was informed that it was $14.00! What the fuck? Best place to eat in all of Haverhill for traditional American food. Tight seating but cozy.

My boyfriend and I have been coming here for years, and always get the same thing; the filet. It is hands down the best filet I've had. We've forced ourselves to try other steakhouses like Burton's and Teresa's Prime, only to say "It just doesn't compare to Keon's!" There are no words to describe the amazing demi glaze they top the filet with, the mashed potatoes are crazy tasty, and no matter what the vegetable is, I always eat every bite, and I hate veggies. The atmosphere is awesome, too - very cozy and beautiful in a historic downtown building. The staff are always kind and accommodating. This place has been an enduring favorite of mine! read more

NOT A FAMILY FRIENDLY ESTABLISHMENT! So sad the food was great however not sure if this restaurant is family friendly at all. Saturday afternoon my family and I (3 year old, fiancé, mother in law) went to have dinner. Well first we all know sometimes toddlers make it their way, so I gave my son the tablet to watch cartoons, an older couple came in and sat behind us and we're very upset because of my son watching the tablet apparently it was so loud the couple couldn't converse with each other, the lady was so upset she said if she couldn't move they would leave so of course they catered to her which is great customer service, but for the two waitresses to stare giggle and laugh at my child not right! Then my son got upset and cried and another customer says "shove a sock down his throat" and the other waitresses laugh about it and continue to give us looks. When I explained my frustration to the waitress instead of apologizing she laughs at the issue and walks away. So all in and lol I will not be going back to this establishment nor will my friends. I support local businesses and yet this is the treatment we get. Not nice at all. read more

We heard so much about Keons and we were definately disapointed. We ate appetizers at the bar and the service was horrible. The bartender congregated at the other end of the bar gossipping the whole time. \We had to literally flag her down for our drinks every time. But what was so disapointing was the appetizer of the day Mussels. It appeared they counted the mussels, so for $11 we had probably 15 mussels max. When they arrived we ere shocked by how small the portion was and the musssels were tough. The waitress also failed to give us plates for them. read more

After listening to the Phantom Gourmet and reading the posts here, I happened to be in Haverhill on May 31, 2012, (thursday night) and decided to try it out. The place is great, just like a bistro. I sat at the bar and waited for the bartender to finish her long winded discussion with a friend. I ordered a drink which i did not want shaken, but of course it was. I was interested in the spinach and arugula salad that everyone raves about. I ordered it and found it tasteless. For $9, I thought it would have the dijon or bacon flavor. I complained to the bartender and the owner jumped up to indicate he would handle it. the next one was the same, tasteless. the special was tenderloin tips for $26. I thought it a steep price but ordered it. It was ok but not "knock my socks off fabulous" for $26. the asparagus was limp and overcooked, but the meat was medium as ordered. the other patrons at the bar had a chicken pasta dish they indicated was great. I guess I had high expectations and picked the wrong dishes. I found the prices high for the portion size and quality of food. I decided it was not a place to return with friends. read more
