Servers are not friendly, attentive, and your food will not come out at a timely manner. Had to wait 15 minutes for bread and water to come out. Place was not that busy but the three servers working that night seemed to have a hard juggling multiple tables at once. Usually servers ask, "How's everything" as the first question to check up. Great experience. I had the ahi tuna first time I have ever ordered. That set the bar! Outstanding. My martini was excellent. My guest had salmon salad and that was off the hook. Small, intimate place, nice (historic) bar, good staff, excellent food. In a nutshell, that is Keon's. Friendly staff, attentive. I showed up (just me), no reservation, though they were mostly full they did get me a spot at the bar. Between the Bar tender and a waitress my needs were attended to actively. I had a salad and the roast duck breast. I love duck - if you're a duck person... try it! My wife would have loved the place, too. Pricey, though. This is just short of 5 stars. Made reservations...glad I did, on a Monday night at 6:30 only two high tops and a table "by the door" were open. We opted to have a drink at the bar and wait for a booth. The wait staff and hostess/manager could not have been friendlier. This is a restaurant that effortlessly makes you feel at home. We decided on the dinner special, $59.00 for two entrees and a bottle of wine. Beginning with the mussles($11), which were in a broth of wine butter and garlic...nothing overwhelming ..great starter. The Keons caesar salad ($8 + $3 to split)arrived with the mussles, and my request for more dressing was quickly delivered, and it was delicately delicious. The entrees were just as wonderful, the Filet Mignon ($37) was served with whipped yukon potatoes and grilled asparagus, with a drizzle of a port wine demi-glaze. It was cooked to perfection. The halibut ($26) was as tasty, and served with the same sides as a special request. My constructive comments are that the potatoes were rather salty which I like but my husband does not. The wine selection for red was Salmon Creek which is 2/$10 at my local store. The upcharge for the filet was $5.00-didn't understand that. We shared two appetizers and were charged $3 to split the salad..no charge to split the mussles.. curious...So the $59.00 special is actually $64.00 if you order the filet.. Would highy recommend this restaurant for small groups and reservations are a must if you want to sit in a booth or regular table.. read more

The good news, this is the best restaurant we've been to in Haverhill. The bad news, it still wasn't very good. Nothing was awful, but for the price it wasn't worth it. Our salads were pretty standard. The menu says the caesar comes with marinated tomatoes, but they were just halved cherry tomatoes. My boyfriend's steak and my salmon were both overcooked. Also my salmon was topped with what seemed to be plain sour cream?!? We had the bread pudding for desert, which was okay, but nothing special. I have been a professional chef for 25 years and owned 2 full service and 5 quick service restaurants. More often than not, I have been disapointed with my dinning experiences outside my own establishments. With my third visit to Keons I have established that this is the finest restaurant that I have patronized all year. I cant come close to describe in words how good the food is here. Last night I had the veal osso bucco with a maple demi glaze, couscous and broccolini. I could not contain my excitement and had to praise the chef and line cooks and thank them for an amazing meal. A suburban gem in the heart of Haverhill's "Restaurant Row". Keon's delivers on their promise of high quality dining in a very relaxed casual environment. Nothing terribly exciting about the menu, but everything was very tasty and well prepared. Keon's knows their customers and keeps the focus on strong execution. Extra star given here because they've chosen to have NO televisions over their cozy bar, allowing guests to focus on good conversation and solid food. See Groupon for a great deal while it lasts, but make a reservation and enjoy their simple pleasures even when the Groupon goes away. Hoping to try one of their wine dinners in the coming weeks. I have to admit, from the 5 star reviews of the others I am a bit let down, that is not to say that this place isn't a good find, cause it is. I can almost see why it got so many raves, the owner is nice, the place is cozy, and the food is good. So why not right? Well the menu is out of season, I mean root vegetables and butternut squash in July? It just isn't making its headway in the culinary department. I give it a solid three stars, a return worthy restaurant with a nice staff, and relaxed atmosphere. Five stars is the best of the best, throwing it around makes reviewers opinions less valuable. This place was like a yo-yo. Up, down, up down. But then why 5 stars? THE FOOD. We made reservations (they only have 10 or so tables). (Up) We were seated in an awkward table that transitions the front tables to back tables. (Down) I was sitting next to the loudest woman in the Merrimack Valley but that is not the restaurant's fault. It took 10 minutes to get menus (down) and I had to ask for water THREE times (down). We had picked our order online before we got there and the appetizer and the entrees we picked were not on the menu. (down) We ordered the Korean BBQ for an app and it came quickly. (up) The bread and accompanying spread were good and fresh. (up) I ordered a special entree (veal scallopini) and Chris had the filet. (up). The food came and all I can say is do not order ANY other side than the mashed potatoes. Holy Jesus. (MAJOR UP). Although the app was good I wish we had saved more room for the main meal (up). I didn't love my first glass of wine so I asked our server for a suggestion. I told her I wasn't interested in pairing with the meal, I just wanted a good glass. She recommended this Chenin Blanc that was out of this world. (MAJOR UP) Chris needed a second beer and he had to ask twice (down). We also picked our dessert online - guess what - no longer on the menu (down) and settled for the tiramisu. It too was excellent. Very light (up). While waiting for check, I asked our waitress if she knew anyplace I could find the wine. The owner came over to give me a suggestion and let me know it wasn't carried everywhere. (up for service). The price was reasonable and I felt like the value for the food was great. (up) When we left we filled out the card to give them our email. I got a thank you note from the owner (up) but with the completely wrong name (down). Overall, just go for the food. Even with all these downs I'm still giving it five stars. Its best to come here on a night they offer the 3 course deal. The last 3 times we have been here we have always had to wait an hour and that was with a reservation. The last time, last Saturday night, we showed up 10 min early for our table and it turns out they gave it away. After finally sitting down at 9:30pm, we were the last to eat. The service and the food was rushed. The 2 girls at our table enjoyed their meals, along with my friend. My Steak tips on special were over good and over marinated. The rositto which came with it was very good. Our table bill (not including drinks while waiting) was $140 for 4 people and 3 beers. We have been going to Keons for more than a few years, and I'm to the point where I don't want to go there any more. How can I be the first person to review Keon's? It's a small restaurant with an inventive American menu. The owner and the servers are all friendly and informed. It's isn't a place for a cheap meal but it's not overpriced. If you're looking for a relaxed meal in a small restaurant, this is a good choice. I can't think of any problems with it at all. Parking is usually easy, I never had to make reservations because I usually eat an early dinner, and I've never had a bad meal. I generally go to restaurants for food that I can't make at home, but this is one that I'd go to just because the chef is a better cook and it feels more special than my dining room. read more

I only go here for one thing, the filet. This place has the best 25 dollar filet outside of Boston. They always cook it right and the meat is really good. The shinig star for this meal is the port wine demi-glaze on the filet. I mean I have tried alot of demi-glazes with red and port wine but nothing I have had comes close to Keon's special sauce. I mean, there is a limited menu with like 6-7 choices but when you try the filet, you wont have anything else. It is definatly worth the time to try it and I think if you go on a tuesday or wednesday, they have alot of specials. I mean 2 filet's and a bottle of wine for 55 bucks? Seriously, if you are taking the time to look it up, then listen to me. This place is super small, but with the two girls that work there, Tara and Jackie it is a great experience nonetheless. It has great features because it is a historic building, but it is tiny. Get there a little early so you can chat with the girls and sit at the bar. The tables are too small for good sized dudes but well worth the try. The owner is always there and the matradee. He actually talks to you and if you go in a few times you feel like you knew him for years. Same with Jackie and Tara. I was with a group and wasn't planning on ordering anything as I am gluten and dairy free (and only chicken or fish), but they were totally happy to accommodate. Great! So I got the spinach and arugula salad without the bacon, cheese and croutons, add beets and scallops. It was delicious but had bacon which I accidentally ate some of. I get sick easily and while it's no big deal for some, it's kind of not okay for me. I had to pick through the rest of the salad to eliminate the rest of the bacon. I would've mentioned something but the waitress never came by after our food was delivered. I mentioned it when she came to clear plates but got nothing more than a "well that's not how I entered it, sorry." So the regular $9 charge for the salad and an extra $9 for the 3 tiny scallops added in. I was a bit disappointed. I can see people without dietary restrictions being happy here though so just beware if you have restrictions. read more

My husband and I went to Keon's last night to try something different, since we are both sick of chain restaurants. Our meals were excellent. I had the Osso Buco and my husband had three brothers. What spoiled the whole experience was the poor service. I was prepared for a small cramped restaurant equivalent to the North End, but was astounded by the slow service and almost nonexistent waitress. No water refills, long wait for drinks, meals, and check. We will probably not go back. For the price, I expect a lot better service. read more

My husband I visited the georgetown location tonight to have dinner. When we arrived the restaurant seemed busy, we were asked to wait a few minutes while a table was cleared for us. Once seated at the table we watched as the wait staff passed by us. After 20-25 minutes of waiting to be greeted by a waitress or waiter and have our drink order taken, another couple was seated behind us. Within 5 minutes someone was at their table asking them what they could get them for a drink, took their order, then walked pasted our table ignoring us entirely. At this point we had been in the restaurant for over 30 minutes without even an "I'll be right with you" from the wait staff. My husband and I have had fantastic experiences at the downtown haverhill location and were excited to try out the new spot. We are very upset that the Keon's name is associated with such poor service. We will not be returning again. read more

I have been to Keons about six times. Most of our visits have been good to very good. The last two times I've noticed the service was slipping. We went there last night and had an 8 pm dinner reservation (party of 2). Arrived on time and was told our table was not ready, in fact it would be at least 30 minutes before they could seat us. The hostess blamed the delay on late-arriving patrons. I understand they don't want to turn away paying customers but this creates a domino effect for all subsequent diners especially if they don't quickly vacate the tables. Left my phone number and asked the hostess to call when our table was ready...after 35 minutes I went back to learn that our table was still not ready. Luckily, there were two seats at the bar. We were provided a complimentary drink and appetizer but would have preferred our table at the designated time. We ordered the scallops and pork chop, the meal took ~ 45 minutes to arrive. The scallops were cooked well but the pork chop was overdone - and I certainly wasn't interested in waiting another 30 minutes for a replacement so we kept the meal. There was only one bartender and she seemed to spend a lot time chit chatting with regulars at the other end of the bar so drinks took a while to arrive. On the previous visit we were also offered a free appetizer because the kitchen was very slow in turning out the orders. The service and food was fine during all of our other trips to Keons. Not sure what's changed as the servers seem to be the same ones we've had in the past. This used to be my favorite restaurant but it now looks like we'll be searching for another spot. read more

Favorite place in Haverhill- the service is always attentive and friendly. Honestly have never had a bad meal here. Any seafood dish is always outstanding. The chef has a knack for pairing dishes. The beet salad with goat cheese honey and apples is a favorite appetizer. Light enough to enjoy your meal after. The scallops and cauliflower purée with bacon and spinach salad is one of my favorites. I also love the salmon and haddock. My boyfriend recommends the Three Brothers- come hungry if you order this meal, a lot of food! Our favorite part is the warm loaf of bread with hummus, so much better than butter. We had dinner there on a Tuesday night and it was pretty full, but there were still a few tables. The atmosphere is noisy mid-scale bar which really doesn't match the price of the food which are at Boston levels. The food itself is quite good although not fantastic once it finally arrives. The service is pretty bad unfortunately. The waitresses hang out at the bar and talk to the regulars so you won't get a refill on drinks or water. After a pretty long wait for salads, it was 40 minutes before our entrees arrived which the waitress said that was pretty normal. Pretty poor IMHO, especially for the price. We stumbled upon Keon's by chance, and what luck! The food was beautifully prepared, delicious and high quality. Everything on the menu looked amazing. The hardest part was choosing, I wanted one of everything. My husband had the chicken breast over sausage and cranberry stuffing. The kids shared and devoured the short ribs. Had crab cake app definitely not the best, over cooked and very dry, but did come with dipping sauce which helped. Portion was also very small for the price. Meals however were very good. My husband had lamb lollipop chops as an app and I had a caesar salad, both were outstanding.Dinner was the filet mignon cooked perfect and the scallops cooked perfect, both of these also outstanding. Haverhill's Sweetest Deal Last night we were walking in downtown Haverhill, trying to decide where to eat. We walked by Keon's and the special board grabbed our attention. The special was just too good to pass up; a bottle of wine and two entrees for $59. You can't find quality food for a price like that anywhere else. We walked into Keon's and the restaurant was packed. After our meal it was obvious as to why. If you want a table you should definitely call for reservations. The restaurant, like others in downtown settings, is very small. We were greeted at the door by the owner, Alan. He welcomed us and we were lucky to grab a couple seats at the bar. We ordered our bottle of wine and looked over the menu. The bartender was spot on. She provided friendly service and fun conversation. We ordered our entrees and continued drinking our wine. After a short wait, our meals came out. I had the scallops and my partner had the salmon. My dish was executed perfectly. The scallops, maple bread, and bacon slaw went so well together. It was by far the best meal I've had in awhile. My companion also enjoyed his salmon, especially the heirloom potatoes that came with the dish. When we finished our entrees, we ended our evening with a short conversation with Alan. We will be returning to Keon's soon and often. read more
