Looking for a fun, delicious, and unique spot by the airport? If so, point your GPs here! Cute interior and friendly service with a cool Hawaiian-Mex menu. The portions are mega-generous so consider sharing. We enjoyed the spam fried rice, chicken fried rice, bbq chicken plate, chicken quesadilla, and Hawaiiana (their take on a Cuban sandwich). All was delicious, but the hawaiiana was really awesome! Full selection of Hawaiian Sun juices and jarritos! Pass-o-guava for the win.
Casual eatery. Pay close attention to the days and hours of operation as there have been a number of times we've shown up and forgot they weren't open (similar to the Chick-Fil-A experience). Everything we've had to eat here has been delicious-- and I love that they have guava juaritos! The entree flavors don't exactly replicate the Oahu flavors I'm familiar with but they are close enough and the food is fresh and quality. The restaurant is always clean and service is fast but I wish the seating was more comfortable and that there was some brighter lighting at some of the tables (the table in the corner by the front door has good natural lighting; that's where you'll wanna sit if brightness is a priority-- that, or outside).
There is not one bad thing I have to say about this place. The food is phenomenal and the portions are great! The service is always fantastic and they are always so kind. The inside of the restaurant is kind of tight but they also have outdoor seating. Such a good sport for lunch but any meal honestly. Check this place out if you're in the area. I promise you won't be disappointed!
Went here to try something new after seeing it on a review. Place was very busy and hoping! Very cute decor and super friendly staff. I ordered the kalua pork tacos and a combo dish with beef and chicken. The tacos are to die for!!! Soft, delicious, and super moist with great flavors. I had never had Hawaiian food before so this was a surprise for me. I did find the beef was a bit salty but had great flavors, the chicken was delicious too and the rice I loved it being just a sticky rice... if ya paired it with the beef then the beef wasn't as salty. The coleslaw was good... too many carrots for me but I ate it ... I thought it was going to have pineapple in it for some reason but it didn't. The portions of the combo meal plates are massive... I had some for lunch then my hubby and I had the rest of it for dinner. I would definitely come back for more of the kalua pork and chicken!
Yum! What an amazing little spot centrally located in Reno. We got a spread of options to try - tacos, the pork sandwich and the curry bowl. Standout winners were the beef taco, the curry bowl and the sauce on the pork sandwich. Everything was super tasty and spiced without being over the top. Seating area is very dark inside and outside was suitable but cold this time of year. Maybe best to get take out as many people were doing. Service was very friendly and helpful. Excited to come back and bring the kids next time!
If you're looking for a spot that hits the mark every time, you have to check out Kenji's. It's a total hidden gem, and honestly, I have never had a bad experience here. The food is solid every time, and it really does the job when you're craving something flavorful and unique. The vibe when you walk in is amazing--it's got such a cool, welcoming energy. Their plates are amazing, but honestly, there is so much to choose from on the menu and lots of meats to pick from that I always leave wanting to try so much more. Whether you're a local or just passing through Reno, this place is a winner for a consistently great meal!
Kenji's has been right near our neighborhood for a while, and I finally decided to stop in. I'm so glad I did, as I think I've found my new favorite lunch spot! I ordered the BBQ beef plate with macaroni salad, and it was honestly the best Hawaiian food I've ever had. The beef was bursting with flavor, the sides were fresh, and everything tasted really high quality. I also loved the wide selection of Hawaiian Sun canned drinks. I went with the Kona coffee and it paired perfectly with the meal. The portions were generous, the prices were reasonable, and the service was warm and friendly. The vibe is great too! The food truck shell built indoors makes the space unique and memorable. I'll definitely be back.
This place was so cute! It has a food truck inside the building and little outdoor tables that are indoors. The cashier/host was friendly. I ordered 2 dinners of bbq chicken-1 with rice and macaroni salad and the other with rice and a green salad. And a side of mushrooms. I took it to go. Because the family was waiting at home. All was amazing. The chicken was cooked great and plenty of it. The macaroni salad with yummy! And the dressing for the garden salad was yummy also. My husband actually invented his own version of the dressing.
The food here is always so good! I usually get their Hawaiian Chicken Barbecue Plate but saw that they have curry for the season so I tried it. I chose chicken for the protein and it's so good! It's very affordable and the serving portion was plenty. The owner/staff are always friendly as well. Didn't wait too long for the order. You can smell the Hawaiian food as soon as you enter and it's the best. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating as well as parking. You also can't leave without Spam Musubi! 100% recommend and will definitely go back over and over!
We were craving Hawaiian food so we decided to drive over and give Kenji's a try and we're so glad we did. It's across town from us but definitely worth the drive. We'll be back! We ordered the spam fried rice, bbq beef and bbq chicken tacos and bbq beef plate lunch. Everything was so good but our absolute favorite was the spam fried rice! The tacos were a nice lighter but still filling option. The inside was cool with a food truck and artwork explaining the history of plate lunch in Hawaii. There was plenty of seating both inside and outside. The staff were friendly and the food came out quickly after ordering.
I loved Kenji's From the moment you walk into the restaurant, it's really funny to see the food truck inside the place, I think that gives it a special vibe. Although there's not enough space inside to accommodate many people, the atmosphere is honestly on another level. The service from the staff was very pleasant, they gave us great recommendations and also took the time to explain everything really well. As for the food definitely a 10/10. Everything we tried was delicious, had great flavor and texture, and the meats weren't dry at all. It definitely won't be the last time I visit them

Been wanting to try Kenji's since they established their own brick and mortar. Food truck inside the building as a frame to their kitchen is a creative touch! Located just off McCarran and Mira Loma this hidden gem is a delicious find. My cousin and I went after a morning of climbing so we were starving. The amount of food you receive is well matched for the price you pay. You order inside and depending if you sit inside or outside each area caters to your preference. The lady served our food once it was ready as we sat outside. A Hawaiian bbq beef plate and a spam musubi for lunch. Plate had two scoops of rice, plenty or protein and a unique macaroni salad I couldn't stop eating. Finished my entire plate along with my musubi I'll Definitely be coming back to try more off the menu and bringing friends to enjoy this gem! read more
Wow, it has been so long since we have come here; my wife tells me pre-Yelp life. That would explain why I can't find my review or pictures. Quality/Quantity - Simple menu done well. Hawaiian BBQ Chicken Plate - I normally get beef, but am trying to eat healthier. Generous portions, good flavors. Beef Udon Stir-Fry - My wife was warned that this entree is smaller than the rice ones, and the price reflects that also. As we are light eaters, she thought it would be fine. Wrong, there was not enough food for her. Good thing I was not able to finish my entree. I know they make their sauces on site, but this batch was overly salty. And I like salt. Again, I gave her my rice to dilute the salty sauce. If it was not for the saltiness of this entree, this would have been a 5 star review. Our first visit was 5 stars; too bad it was pre-Yelp life. Atmosphere - Fairly busy, consistent business prior to us getting here and while we are here. Cool decor throughout, including the bathrooms; see pictures. Indoor/outdoor seating. Open 5 days a week from 10am to 6pm. Enjoy your weekends off, or are those your food truck days...? Plenty of mall parking. Service - Overall good. See picture of "No Fast Food Here... Thank you for your Patience." From order until eating, our food took approximately 25 minutes. So be patient. Catering available, see website. Price - $24 + tip. After skiing a few days in Tahoe and dropping off my buddy in Reno. I was hungry and found this spot. It reminds me of Hawaiian drive in in Kauai. I ordered the chicken plate it was hella Good. Anytime im In Reno I'll come back. read more

We come to Reno a few times a year, I'm not sure how we've never been here. The outside looked simple, but when you walk inside, it's a trip. Originally, from what they told me, they started as a food truck. Before or during covid, they made the jump to open a restaurant. Since they had already built a name and clientele known as Kenji's Food Truck. I was a little confused when I got there. When you walk in, it looks like they have a food truck inside. It's really just their kitchen. I thought that was cool. The vibe is chill, and all the decorations, pictures, and displays were so cool. You gotta take a minute to walk around and take it all in. Even the restroom was cool. It looked retro and vintage like. The lady who helped me was super nice and friendly. The food is made fresh to order, so just chill and look at all the pictures and stuff. They do have indoor and outdoor seating. We took our food to go so that we get our grub on at the hotel The food was onolicious. Everything we ate broke da mouth. We ordered: 1. El Hawaiiano - Just thinking about it has my mouth watering. We were eating it like where have you been my life? The kalua pork and cheese were tender, and the French bread was crunchy. 2. Spam fried rice. - This is a meal on its own. You don't need nothing else. 3. Kalua pork and cabbage - So juicy and flavorful, my husband says it's one of the best he's had in a while. 4. Mac salad - You can not go to a Hawaiian restaurant and not try the mac salad. This was delicious, I wish I ordered more than the scoop to try. We will for sure be back when we are in the area. It was our first time, and Kenji's service staff answered all our questions promptly which made a good first impression. Did what they're in business to do Has average prices; adequate food, okay customer service, average wait time We did The Take-Out. Truth is the highest virtue, but higher still is truthful living. --Sikh Guru Nanak. This business was truthful as: Charged us the menu prices posted. Delivered what they advertise. No automatic gratuity was added to our bill. No one here offered to commit fraud to reward us, pay us or compensate us for posting 5 star reviews of this business. Their coleslaw is worth pointing out is pretty darn good. I rate 'em 3 stars. According to Yelp ratings' definitions, that's "Ok". That to me is an acceptable rating of something that does day in and day out what it is there to do. It's NOT a negative review because doing day in and day out what it is there to do is NOT an easy thing to accomplish. Owners of this business like their Freedom so they have a Military and Veterans Discount as a thank you to Veterans with a publicly disclosed daily Veteran Discount which provides resource to ensure Veterans (rare 7% of the population) and GIs (rare one-half of one percent of the population) opportunity to participate in American Dream Veterans and GIs' sacrifices have made possible for 100% of the population. That earned 'em another review star for going beyond what they're in business to do. I'll be back. I've been ordering Kenjis for years! It is the best Hawaiian food in Reno! The location is so cute and the service is always impeccable. I absolutely love the chicken lunch plate and I recommend getting a side of dressing as that stuff is addictive! Definitely check them out! read more

So I really wanted to like this place. It definitely has good flavor but it was extremely salty. The staff was very friendly and it had that chill hang out vibe going on with the food truck shoved in the building. I ordered the udon stir fry and my friend ordered the BBQ chicken. As mentioned the flavor itself was good, chicken wasn't dry, but the sauce that it was glazed and cooked with was overwhelmingly salty for both dishes. I'm unsure if I'll be back, and I hope that when I do it was just a fluke that I got a salty chef. read more

I love Kenji's . They used to be at Tesla when I first tried them and OMG they're amazing! They are down the street from me now and I love taking my friends there ! I love their whole menu. We have been on a Hawaiian food craze! Ordered Kenji's take out for lunch online. The location is a bit hidden however the actual restaurant is cute and cozy. We had the BBQ beef plate, BBQ chicken plate, spam masubi and One of each taco Beef, chicken, mushroom and pork. I was amazed at the generous portions, the flavor and texture of the meat. The food is perfectly seasoned with a hint of garlic and the meat is so tender it just melts in your mouth. Tacos are good but as a latina I needed some salsa/ hot sauce to go with it. 100% coming back to this hidden gem! read more
Keliana and her team pulled together to get a catering order of 200 plates for my little brother's service to feed those who came to send our brother off. Our order consisted of BBQ chicken, kalua pork, rice, and Mac salad. It was last minute, but we're so grateful that she got her staff in at 6 a.m. to get our order done by 10 A.M. for Friday a.m. service. My brother loved plate lunch, and we're a big Polynesian family, so it was a no-brainer that we would cater from one of our local Hawaiian BBQ spots. Even our family from Hawaii was impressed with the plate lunch we have here in Reno. The food was a hit, and there was extra for our guests. This is the kind of service that you would only get from a local spot, and I am so glad that we went with Kenji's and not L&L this time around. If you dine in, the restaurant is cute, and the colors vibrant. I will never forget that this local business owner opened her heart and kitchen after hours to help ease the stress on my family during our loss. Our first time coming here this afternoon and to sum it up WE WILL BE BACK most notably two things that I really enjoyed number one is I'm a big eater and trust me with your meal you get plenty to eat. The second thing is when I order barbecue chicken I like it barbecued on the grill and then served I don't like when people give you chicken and then cover it barbecue sauce. I am such a huge fan of Kenji's and have been for about nine years now. From their food truck, to the Cafe inside of Tesla, and the restaurant. They have never made a single thing that I disliked and Joe and his wife as well as their staff have always treated me very well. It is always clean and inviting when we visit and the patio is also really nice during warmer weather. I have so many favorites from their menu, but the one I'd really like to mention is the El Hawaiiano. I haven't been able to stop talking about it! This is their Hawaiian take on a Cubano sandwich, and it is an absolute must try. read more
Such a cute location, but a little tough to find based off Maps! We went in for lunch and had the Hawaiian BBQ Chicken lunch plate and the Kalua Pork Sliders. The chicken lunch plate included rice and the choice of a side. I chose the mac salad. Overall I enjoyed my meal. I really liked the taste of the chicken, but would have liked some sort of sauce on it. My husband had the slider and that was extremely tasty! I definitely liked it better than my dish. Ordered and his this afternoon via online for myself and coworkers. Fast, quick and easy! This is very convenient for skipping the lunch time rush hour. We ordered 2 chicken salads and 1 chicken plate. Both were very good with my favorite always being the macaroni salad. Today was perfect weather for patio dining. We will be back soon! read more
Husband and wife-owned restaurant serving Hawaiian, Asian, and Latin fusion cuisine. It's small and cozy with indoor and outdoor seating. I called in my order and it was hot and ready when I picked it up 20 minutes later. It was well-packaged and reasonably priced. Pretty much everything is $15 or less. I had the seasonal curry bowl with chicken. The curry was pretty thick, more like gravy, but it had good flavor. The portion could easily have been two meals. They have vegetarian options available as well. Next on my list to try is El Hawaiiano, which is their take on a Cuban sandwich. I've heard it's delicious! I will definitely be back! read more
11/3/23 Always good ! The food is amazing . I have been a few times now and I haven't reviewed , what's wrong with me . Ok let's get into that not enough time . Anyways Bbq Beef plate w/ macaroni salad as seen in pic, With Guava Nectar Juice delish. Look at the portions for this Lunch Special. Soooooo good .. The Service has always been top notch and always attentive . The Ambiance is awesome. Cool vibe inside with seating for about 12 people with small tables for 2 each or out together . Always chill music playing and a great sound system by my standards becuase the bass be hittin just right all the time . Not to loud and to soft very cool love it . Has outdoor seating with 4 bench tables and 1 (4) bar table. It's between 2 buildings so it's pretty much always shady so it's gets cooler seated there but still very nice . Staff is great / Cool Lunch truck inside as the kitchen when you come in that's a very cool touch . Art deco is awesome too. Go by and get some . It'sa very good ! Enjoy! read more

Came with some co workers for our lunch break, and wanted to try this place out. I ordered the spam fried rice and also their steak tacos. Both were very good and flavorful. One thing about this place is portions are big here, and the price is phenomenal for the quality and the amount you get here. Service was very top notch too and very polite. These place give you that food truck feel but restaurant version, since they did start out as a food truck. Will continue to go and tell everyone about this place if they haven't already. Cause this place does get busy during lunch. read more
