I'm not sure what it is about Hawaiian food lately, but the last few times I came into Reno, my first spot is to try a new one. I'm sad Aloha Shack closed, used to be a big fan. Maybe them closing is the reason, who knows. Anyways so far all 3 places have been better than the ones I go to in the bay area, at least on the peninsula. There is some good ones, but not exactly quick and easy as Hawaiian bbq should be. Walked in at lunch time. Decent amount of people there around that time. I liked that they had outdoor benches, cool looking inside with the food truck decor and window to look into the kitchen. Staff greeted me quickly and was friendly. I'm far from a picky eater and when trying new places, i like to let the staff steer the ship. They most likely have tried the whole menu, have their favorites, and if I don't like it, it's probably not worth going back to try anything else. Good looking plate. First thing I noticed eating it, this felt a lot cleaner than most Hawaiian BBQ places. It's not caked in sauce or wasn't swimming on a marinade for days. It was seasoned nicely, was tender, and not going to be a sodium bomb. I usually see most places give more white rice (2 scoops), but probably a good thing they didn't, because I would have ate it and been overly stuffed. Mac salad was balanced, light, nice palette cleanser. That said, Mac salad on its own isn't something that would be able to stand alone. Better than L&L, but that isn't saying much. Back to the service. They came to check on me, see how I was enjoying the food, and also recommended I try the hot sauce thets made in house. That was a nice change from the siracha that is everywhere. Not very spicy, but has a kick and paired well with the plate. I'll be back, but I'm sure I'll try something new. Most likely the tacos. I was tempted to get it this trip, but knew it would put me into a food coma.
Took a friend here that hadn't tried Hawaiian food before and she ordered the bbq beef and I had the chicken... I told her she had to try the Kalua pork tacos so we also ordered 2 of those. She likes the juicy pork tacos but stated that the beef had a lot of grizzle so she didn't eat much of it. I enjoyed the chicken and macaroni salad. Had plenty for dinner also. Service was friendly and she would check on us often. Place is small but has several lil table to dine at and some places outside.
We love this local Hawaiian BBQ joint. It's pretty tight inside but they have outside tables as well. Service is always friendly and timely. The owner came outside and chatted with us after the rush, and they had a BIG rush. It's pretty cool that he took a breather was us. Love this place!!
Decided to take a longer lunch break and drive to this restaurant. I was a little nervous coming in as I thought it appeared very busy and had previously read it can be busy during a lunch rush. Thankfully to my surprise, it was the reflection of the barbershop next door and the restaurant had patrons but not swamped! I ordered two pork tacos, with a side of mac salad and a diet coke, which came out $11 after tip and tax. What a steal! The pork was tender and the size of the mac salad was generous. They include sesame seeds and julienne carrots to their mac salad, which I liked, but others may not. Several more people came in and ordered after me, so for a Thursday afternoon is was steady. I will definitely be back to try out more menu items.
On Longley in the small strip center look for the west facing sign. Small footprint giant flavor. There is a "food truck " inside pumping out Hawaiian food that will take you to the islands! Today I tried Hawaiian BBQ beef with rice and a side of Mac salad. Very good flavor on the beef and tender too. The Mac salad was excellent and filling. The plate is a full meal that you may take some home. Not a bad deal at all. My guess is that Kenji was taking orders and serving. You kinda can tell from the personal care he took of the diners. Looking for a fun, delicious, and unique spot by the airport? If so, point your GPs here! Cute interior and friendly service with a cool Hawaiian-Mex menu. The portions are mega-generous so consider sharing. We enjoyed the spam fried rice, chicken fried rice, bbq chicken plate, chicken quesadilla, and Hawaiiana (their take on a Cuban sandwich). All was delicious, but the hawaiiana was really awesome! Full selection of Hawaiian Sun juices and jarritos! Pass-o-guava for the win.
Yum! What an amazing little spot centrally located in Reno. We got a spread of options to try - tacos, the pork sandwich and the curry bowl. Standout winners were the beef taco, the curry bowl and the sauce on the pork sandwich. Everything was super tasty and spiced without being over the top. Seating area is very dark inside and outside was suitable but cold this time of year. Maybe best to get take out as many people were doing. Service was very friendly and helpful. Excited to come back and bring the kids next time!
Casual eatery. Pay close attention to the days and hours of operation as there have been a number of times we've shown up and forgot they weren't open (similar to the Chick-Fil-A experience). Everything we've had to eat here has been delicious-- and I love that they have guava juaritos! The entree flavors don't exactly replicate the Oahu flavors I'm familiar with but they are close enough and the food is fresh and quality. The restaurant is always clean and service is fast but I wish the seating was more comfortable and that there was some brighter lighting at some of the tables (the table in the corner by the front door has good natural lighting; that's where you'll wanna sit if brightness is a priority-- that, or outside).
Kenji's has been right near our neighborhood for a while, and I finally decided to stop in. I'm so glad I did, as I think I've found my new favorite lunch spot! I ordered the BBQ beef plate with macaroni salad, and it was honestly the best Hawaiian food I've ever had. The beef was bursting with flavor, the sides were fresh, and everything tasted really high quality. I also loved the wide selection of Hawaiian Sun canned drinks. I went with the Kona coffee and it paired perfectly with the meal. The portions were generous, the prices were reasonable, and the service was warm and friendly. The vibe is great too! The food truck shell built indoors makes the space unique and memorable. I'll definitely be back.
There is not one bad thing I have to say about this place. The food is phenomenal and the portions are great! The service is always fantastic and they are always so kind. The inside of the restaurant is kind of tight but they also have outdoor seating. Such a good sport for lunch but any meal honestly. Check this place out if you're in the area. I promise you won't be disappointed!
The Hawaiian and Mexican fusion doesn't work for my taste buds. I ordered the Hawaiian Chicken plate and it was over cooked and charred a bit too much for my liking! I was looking for that sweet shoyu or teriyaki flavor, but instead got a barbecue chicken without the sweetness that one comes to expect from Hawaiian food. The mac salad looked great, but was bland. I also ordered the Spam fried rice and that look charred as well with a little too much soy sauce. I honestly wanted to like this place, and unfortunately the food wasn't for me.
This place was so cute! It has a food truck inside the building and little outdoor tables that are indoors. The cashier/host was friendly. I ordered 2 dinners of bbq chicken-1 with rice and macaroni salad and the other with rice and a green salad. And a side of mushrooms. I took it to go. Because the family was waiting at home. All was amazing. The chicken was cooked great and plenty of it. The macaroni salad with yummy! And the dressing for the garden salad was yummy also. My husband actually invented his own version of the dressing.
The food here is always so good! I usually get their Hawaiian Chicken Barbecue Plate but saw that they have curry for the season so I tried it. I chose chicken for the protein and it's so good! It's very affordable and the serving portion was plenty. The owner/staff are always friendly as well. Didn't wait too long for the order. You can smell the Hawaiian food as soon as you enter and it's the best. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating as well as parking. You also can't leave without Spam Musubi! 100% recommend and will definitely go back over and over!

Hoping to avoid casino eateries as much as possible, we ventured off into Sparks for our first lunch in town that vacation weekend. Freshly prepared and delicious Hawaiian barbecue in a very cute space. Beef was a touch salty for me, but the chicken was perfect. Wow, it has been so long since we have come here; my wife tells me pre-Yelp life. That would explain why I can't find my review or pictures. Quality/Quantity - Simple menu done well. Hawaiian BBQ Chicken Plate - I normally get beef, but am trying to eat healthier. Generous portions, good flavors. Beef Udon Stir-Fry - My wife was warned that this entree is smaller than the rice ones, and the price reflects that also. As we are light eaters, she thought it would be fine. Wrong, there was not enough food for her. Good thing I was not able to finish my entree. I know they make their sauces on site, but this batch was overly salty. And I like salt. Again, I gave her my rice to dilute the salty sauce. If it was not for the saltiness of this entree, this would have been a 5 star review. Our first visit was 5 stars; too bad it was pre-Yelp life. Atmosphere - Fairly busy, consistent business prior to us getting here and while we are here. Cool decor throughout, including the bathrooms; see pictures. Indoor/outdoor seating. Open 5 days a week from 10am to 6pm. Enjoy your weekends off, or are those your food truck days...? Plenty of mall parking. Service - Overall good. See picture of "No Fast Food Here... Been wanting to try Kenji's since they established their own brick and mortar. Food truck inside the building as a frame to their kitchen is a creative touch! Located just off McCarran and Mira Loma this hidden gem is a delicious find. My cousin and I went after a morning of climbing so we were starving. The amount of food you receive is well matched for the price you pay. You order inside and depending if you sit inside or outside each area caters to your preference. The lady served our food once it was ready as we sat outside. A Hawaiian bbq beef plate and a spam musubi for lunch. Plate had two scoops of rice, plenty or protein and a unique macaroni salad I couldn't stop eating. Finished my entire plate along with my musubi I'll Definitely be coming back to try more off the menu and bringing friends to enjoy this gem! read more
I called ahead, and placed my order, along the way I got lost, their employees are friendly, GPS had this restaurant in the center where human coffee are located, in reality it's one more block over, they stayed open few minutes past closing time for my arrivals. I ordered their loco moco, they are good. The meat patties are cooked to perfection, it's not overcooked or dry. This place is recommended by friends and co-workers. I will be back for more. looking forward to try more of their menus. read more
My first visit here and now my favorite local Hawaiian restaurant! We started with the potstickers-delicious with a perfect sauce. The chicken salad and Hawaiian chicken bbq plate followed. Came here with some coworkers for lunch and it was very busy inside! First impression of it being so busy must mean it's good food right? Once we were able to order, Joe was very kind! I ordered the bbq chicken lunch plate! It's small inside but there's some dine in seating. I loved the food truck inside! The truck is now their kitchen space. It smelled so amazing inside I was so excited to eat! I loved the cute little decor of funny cat posters they had as well. Once we got our food, I was impressed by the portion! You get a lot for the price! The chicken was cooked very well! The rice wasn't mushy and the macaroni salad was my favorite, I wanted more of it! It was so much food I didn't finish it! This place is great and I can't wait to try more things they offer on the menu! read more

I wish I could give 10 stars! Ive been a fan and going to them for about 10 yrs..they were just food truck then..they came by my work one day back in the day and I was a insta fan.. The tacos were all so juicy that my fiancee and I used to say never had a taco we could drink ..lol.. all their tacos are so flavorful and fresh..we even like their tofu tacos!..but our absolute favorite is their kalua pork tacos..I dream of these..lol.. the flavors! The tenderness! The everything.. They have a good variety of Hawaiian items like their spam tacos, their cubano sandwich, spam and rice , udon bowl and more.. but I really love their pot stickers..they are fried just right and it Comes a taste dipping sauce.its light..not super rich or super soy saucy and that's all you taste.. They have a nice little mix of Hawaiian canned drinks and Mexican coke and more.. I'm so happy they were able to expand and get a brick and mortar.. well deserved.. between the food and the decor you really do feel like you're in a little place in Hawaii..the actually have a side of a food truck in the restaurant they use as a wall between the front and the kitchen and use the window of the food truck as the counter to pass the food through from the kitchen.. its sooo cool!! The staff is always nice ..especially the owner.. he always seems to remember us even if there's been some time since we've Been in.. it's so nice and we always feel so welcomed.. I always recommend this place and we will always continue coming here.. read more

After skiing a few days in Tahoe and dropping off my buddy in Reno. I was hungry and found this spot. It reminds me of Hawaiian drive in in Kauai. I ordered the chicken plate it was hella Good. Anytime im In Reno I'll come back. read more
I love the udon noodles my husband gets the Hawaiian bbq lunch with a side of coleslaw. We've been coming here for years and it never disappoints. The tables are clean and the service is fantastic. They have seating inside and out. read more

It was our first time, and Kenji's service staff answered all our questions promptly which made a good first impression. Did what they're in business to do Has average prices; adequate food, okay customer service, average wait time We did The Take-Out. Truth is the highest virtue, but higher still is truthful living. --Sikh Guru Nanak. This business was truthful as: Charged us the menu prices posted. Delivered what they advertise. No automatic gratuity was added to our bill. No one here offered to commit fraud to reward us, pay us or compensate us for posting 5 star reviews of this business. Their coleslaw is worth pointing out is pretty darn good. I rate 'em 3 stars. According to Yelp ratings' definitions, that's "Ok". That to me is an acceptable rating of something that does day in and day out what it is there to do. It's NOT a negative review because doing day in and day out what it is there to do is NOT an easy thing to accomplish. We come to Reno a few times a year, I'm not sure how we've never been here. The outside looked simple, but when you walk inside, it's a trip. Originally, from what they told me, they started as a food truck. Before or during covid, they made the jump to open a restaurant. Since they had already built a name and clientele known as Kenji's Food Truck. I was a little confused when I got there. When you walk in, it looks like they have a food truck inside. It's really just their kitchen. I thought that was cool. The vibe is chill, and all the decorations, pictures, and displays were so cool. You gotta take a minute to walk around and take it all in. Even the restroom was cool. It looked retro and vintage like. The lady who helped me was super nice and friendly. The food is made fresh to order, so just chill and look at all the pictures and stuff. They do have indoor and outdoor seating. We took our food to go so that we get our grub on at the hotel The food was onolicious. Everything we ate broke da mouth. We ordered: 1. El Hawaiiano - Just thinking about it has my mouth watering. We were eating it like where have you been my life? The kalua pork and cheese were tender, and the French bread was crunchy. 2. Spam fried rice. - This is a meal on its own. You don't need nothing else. 3. Kalua pork and cabbage - So juicy and flavorful, my husband says it's one of the best he's had in a while. 4. Mac salad - You can not go to a Hawaiian restaurant and not try the mac salad. This was delicious, I wish I ordered more than the scoop to try. We will for sure be back when we are in the area. So I really wanted to like this place. It definitely has good flavor but it was extremely salty. The staff was very friendly and it had that chill hang out vibe going on with the food truck shoved in the building. I ordered the udon stir fry and my friend ordered the BBQ chicken. As mentioned the flavor itself was good, chicken wasn't dry, but the sauce that it was glazed and cooked with was overwhelmingly salty for both dishes. I'm unsure if I'll be back, and I hope that when I do it was just a fluke that I got a salty chef. read more

I've been ordering Kenjis for years! It is the best Hawaiian food in Reno! The location is so cute and the service is always impeccable. I absolutely love the chicken lunch plate and I recommend getting a side of dressing as that stuff is addictive! Definitely check them out! read more

We have been on a Hawaiian food craze! Ordered Kenji's take out for lunch online. The location is a bit hidden however the actual restaurant is cute and cozy. We had the BBQ beef plate, BBQ chicken plate, spam masubi and One of each taco Beef, chicken, mushroom and pork. I was amazed at the generous portions, the flavor and texture of the meat. The food is perfectly seasoned with a hint of garlic and the meat is so tender it just melts in your mouth. Tacos are good but as a latina I needed some salsa/ hot sauce to go with it. 100% coming back to this hidden gem! read more
Keliana and her team pulled together to get a catering order of 200 plates for my little brother's service to feed those who came to send our brother off. Our order consisted of BBQ chicken, kalua pork, rice, and Mac salad. It was last minute, but we're so grateful that she got her staff in at 6 a.m. to get our order done by 10 A.M. for Friday a.m. service. My brother loved plate lunch, and we're a big Polynesian family, so it was a no-brainer that we would cater from one of our local Hawaiian BBQ spots. Even our family from Hawaii was impressed with the plate lunch we have here in Reno. The food was a hit, and there was extra for our guests. This is the kind of service that you would only get from a local spot, and I am so glad that we went with Kenji's and not L&L this time around. If you dine in, the restaurant is cute, and the colors vibrant. I will never forget that this local business owner opened her heart and kitchen after hours to help ease the stress on my family during our loss. I am such a huge fan of Kenji's and have been for about nine years now. From their food truck, to the Cafe inside of Tesla, and the restaurant. They have never made a single thing that I disliked and Joe and his wife as well as their staff have always treated me very well. It is always clean and inviting when we visit and the patio is also really nice during warmer weather. I have so many favorites from their menu, but the one I'd really like to mention is the El Hawaiiano. I haven't been able to stop talking about it! This is their Hawaiian take on a Cubano sandwich, and it is an absolute must try. read more
Such a cute location, but a little tough to find based off Maps! We went in for lunch and had the Hawaiian BBQ Chicken lunch plate and the Kalua Pork Sliders. The chicken lunch plate included rice and the choice of a side. I chose the mac salad. Overall I enjoyed my meal. I really liked the taste of the chicken, but would have liked some sort of sauce on it. My husband had the slider and that was extremely tasty! I definitely liked it better than my dish. It's one of those sandwiches that is dripping with flavor so be prepared to get messy! Great spot for lunch! read more
Kenji's Hawaiian BBQ Chicken Plate is awesome! Generous portions to fill your hungry bellies. The staff was super friendly and their interior is super cool. Pro tip: slap some sriracha and a bit of soy sauce on your rice plate and sprinkle some black pepper on your macaroni salad and you got yourself a Hawaiian lunch plate on steroids guaranteed to get your stomach swole. read more
