My wife and daughter contacted Joe at Kenji's and spoke to him in regard to providing his catering service for our son's Celebration of Life reception. Joe was wonderful and agreed to take on the task of providing the food for 60-80 friends and family members. I had a good friend pick up 7 large trays of food which included BBQ chicken, rice, spam fried rice, Mac salad, green salad mix (with wontons and dressing on the side) and potstickers. The food was ready on time and was able to be set up right before the reception began. The food was amazing and several attendees had never heard of or had Kenji's. The spam fried rice was the big hit and almost all of it was eaten. Several attendees were impressed with the quality and flavor of the food. Thanks to Kenji's the reception was very good given the circumstances, it definitely turned out better than the port of subs we had discussed prior to talking to Joe. read more

Decided to take a longer lunch break and drive to this restaurant. I was a little nervous coming in as I thought it appeared very busy and had previously read it can be busy during a lunch rush. Thankfully to my surprise, it was the reflection of the barbershop next door and the restaurant had patrons but not swamped! I ordered two pork tacos, with a side of mac salad and a diet coke, which came out $11 after tip and tax. What a steal! The pork was tender and the size of the mac salad was generous. They include sesame seeds and julienne carrots to their mac salad, which I liked, but others may not. Several more people came in and ordered after me, so for a Thursday afternoon is was steady. On Longley in the small strip center look for the west facing sign. Small footprint giant flavor. There is a "food truck " inside pumping out Hawaiian food that will take you to the islands! Today I tried Hawaiian BBQ beef with rice and a side of Mac salad. Very good flavor on the beef and tender too. The Mac salad was excellent and filling. Kenji's was one of the highlights of our trip to Reno, and every dish we ordered was packed with incredible flavor. The Hawaiian and Mexican fusion doesn't work for my taste buds. I ordered the Hawaiian Chicken plate and it was over cooked and charred a bit too much for my liking! I was looking for that sweet shoyu or teriyaki flavor, but instead got a barbecue chicken without the sweetness that one comes to expect from Hawaiian food. The mac salad looked great, but was bland. Other people would probably not go along with this hippie plan, but nope, one of the owners, Joe, played along and surprised me with escorting the children out after their transaction, making sure they made it back to the nest (car). My kiddos are sooo picky and Kenji 's is a place I think say yes to instantly every time I suggest it and one they could never forget. As soon as we turn into the parking lot, their faces light up without fail. On top of all this - authentic food, huge portions, and the drinks to go along with it all. Nope, you won't find any alcohol around, but old school Mexican 7-up & cocoa cola in glass bottles, & jarritos, Japanese green tea, and of course, Hawaiian sodas will make you forget about that. We had a friend who is allergic to so many things and we sent the list over to confirm that our friend would be in good hands.
