The sushi is okay. I might need to try other rolls because the lion king seems lacking. The food came out pretty fast. The service was good. We were seated right away. The employees always made sure we had hot tea and that our water are filled. It seems that a lot of people go there take out and eat in. And, it wasn't too loud. I tolerated the sushi chef coughing and sneezing in his mask while preparing food. They presented dry old mushy fish, doesn't look safe to eat. Ordered the rainbow roll and mentioned to waitress to tell the manager. She didn't seem to care. I repeated myself with no response to take action. I Paid full price, with no tip and no additional words spoken. I left the restaurant immediately because I was hungry. I left the restaurant and went next door to another restaurant to eat dinner. When I returned to my vehicle had been sprayed with silly string. Maybe it was a coincidence but I hope this place shutdowns without anyone getting food poisoning. read more

My waitress was bad service.. she never came back with drinks or forks for our salads. Our salads got soggy by the time we got forks. And if you like a cook to chew gum while making your sushi, then come to Kengo. The guy that was making our sushi was chewing gum like a cow and God knows all the spit that came out on our sushi. My friend and I were looking for a good sushi place around town and we came upon kengo sushi. The restaurant is a good size and seats about 50 people or more. It is also very clean and modern looking. The staff and chefs are super friendly and helpful. For appetizer I ordered a shrimp tempura which are 4 pieces of fried shrimp and come with a sauce and it was delicious. My friend ordered unagi sushi roll and I ordered the simba rolls. Both were tasty, but I liked the simba roll more. However in my future visits I will try their other rolls, but I'm pretty sure they're all gonna be as tasty and fresh as what we had today. This is a cute, clean place in a stip center....quick service. Tasteless food. No alcohol. Thickest, chewiest maguro and Hamachi sashimi ever. Not good. Old or frozen and dethawed is never how you want sushi. Several sushi type restaurants in Tracy, none of them good. Mikasa is much better though. read more

We wanted to love this place, it was just ok. Nothing on the menu really jumped out at us. Was hoping for something interesting, possibly with some mango or something less common. We had a few rolls, nothing tasted bad but it wasn't amazing either. We likely won't be back. The most annoying thing was that the menu didn't say that the rolls had scallions or green onions but they came covered in thinly sliced scallions. That's not just a garnish, it changes the flavor of the dish and should be noted in print. The worst part is that I don't digest them well and they were impossible to pick off. read more

Our favorite place to go for Valentine's Day. They have an incredible selection of sushi. I personally love the Unagi Tiger roll the dragon roll off. While up here on our NorCal trip we wandered into a town called Tracy. We found Kengo and decided to try it out due to the reviews. We came in on a Thursday night and the whole restaurant was empty which was super shocking. However we sat down and were greeted enthusiastically. The menu was pretty big and there were a lot to choose from. I decided to get the sushi salad and got the rainbow dragon roll. The salad was nothing special but it definitely made me full! They originally gave me a sesame dressing that didn't pair well with the salad so I asked for some ponzu to dress the salad. The ponzu wasn't that citrusy and was very light. So the salad ended up being very basic, the only plus side was the amount of fish on the salad! The rainbow dragon roll was delicious though! 5 stars for this one, it was spicy tuna with tempura shrimp inside with assorted fish and spicy fish roe on top. It was mouthwatering and delicious. Service was prompt and the food came out quick! Definitely a decent place to get sushi but wasn't the best. read more

Decided to check out this place based on their listed hours but was let down. I got there just 30 minutes before they were supposed to close, but they wouldn't serve us unless we ordered our food to-go. This was pretty frustrating as there wasn't any heads-up about this policy. It'd be much better if they either update their hours or put up a sign saying they stop seating customers a half hour before closing. This experience was a disappointment and I think clear communication on when they actually stop serving could make things better for everyone. I won't be back. read more

What is sushi without a saki bomb??? Well, here it's actually pretty good sushi. And there you have the good news, I enjoyed almost everything we were served, and we were served a lot. I came here with a group of coworkers to unwind Monday after work. We arrived around 5:30 and there was not a single patron inside. The decor is cute, but the waiter wasn't very friendly. We didn't find out there was no alcohol until after I had already ordered, but the waiter advised us we could take our food over to M&J Bistro and be served alcohol there. We sat on the patio and Gabriel from M&J served our drinks while the waiter from Kengo brought our food. It was an interesting experience but we all enjoyed ourselves. We had 6 or 7 rolls and some tempura vegetables. The veggies were good, not soggy and I loved the two rolls I got, the Godzilla & the Crazy roll was my favorite :) We didn't see a single patron for either of the establishments the entire time we were there which shocked me a bit and made me wonder how these businesses stay afloat. If Kengo started serving liquor and taught their waiters how to smile, they would get 5 stars from me! read more

Once again, Kengo has tantalized my taste buds! I ordered the Simba Roll (Hamachi with avocado, lightly tempura fried with their special house sauce) and it was Ah-may-zing! I always have this heavy feeling after eating a tempura-fried roll (figuratively and well, literally as well). But the Simba Roll didn't give me that feeling at all.. I probably could have had another (but then I really would be heavy). If it's you're first time there, you may get a bit disappointed at first because they give you the tiniest bowl of edamame. But once you get your entree, all that disappointment suddenly disappears at first bite. read more

Their sushi is still as tasty as ever. Fish is always fresh and their spicy crab / tuna / salmon / hamachi are very good. If you like baked rolls, you will enjoy the Nemo and Lion King Rolls. The only thing that I am not a fan of is their inclination to use a stick of imitation crab for their California roll. You can request them to use the crab salad, but that should be the norm in my oponion. One more thing of note: If they can make their rolls as big as those in Mikasa, then that will make me one very happy camper. Size does matter. read more

Staff is very friendly, greeted and seated as soon as you walk in the door. They do not serve any alcohol, but do not charge for refills on iced tea (not sure about soft drinks). Restaurant is clean and quiet, lighting is a bit dim. Food was ok. Average price for sushi rolls and they do offer a limited amount of other dishes. Was a bit of a little down that all the rolls use imitation crab (except for the soft shell crab). We had edamame (just plain and steamed). A couple sushi rolls - they where well made and fish was fresh. Hubby had the Tom Katsu (pork) $11.00 ... was very well breaded and nicely fried. Nice size serving. I had the Niku Don (beef) Donburi $12.00- was not impressed while it had good flavor there was barely any beef and it was very thin cut small pieces, 90% rice. read more

I actually came in here today thinking one of my offices had made an order for me to pick up from here, and as it turns out, I was at the wrong sushi restaurant. I have however had a chance to try quite few things on the menu, when I ordered a mixture of sushi to choose from. Frankly I can't remember the names of the rolls, but I told the gal to go ahead and pick 4 of their most popular rolls, and add in a couple of California, and Spicy Tuna. The sashimi was good too. Everything was fresh. The office I brought the food to loved everything that the server suggested. Only drawback, is I love having an occasional cocktail with my dinner, and that is the only place where I find they are lacking... otherwise, it was good. read more

This place was great! I ordered the rainbow roll which was fresh and delicious! I also got to try the Lion King Roll, which was also tasty! I loved the ratio of rice to fish. It was perfect. Their spicy mayo here is also, creamy and fresh (I've had spicy Mayo that tasted old, as if it had been left out and was almost slimy). Not here! Our server was incredibly sweet and attentive. I loved the decor and ambiance here. Really laid back and chill, plus when it got busy for dinner on a Saturday night, it didn't feel crowded. I forgot our servers name but she was a sweet young girl who was extremely attentive and helpful. We asked her what she would recommend and she told us about the most popular rolls. We ended up taking her recommendation and we all loved our rolls. She handled the 5 of us very well even though we were very tipsy so I appreciate that a lot !!! i'm not a big teriyaki person, but on a good day, kengo makes the best teriyaki i've ever had. on a bad day, their teriyaki tastes like teriyaki from any other restaurant. what makes it good is it TASTES like they grill the meat over coals for a good char. i'm not sure if they ACTUALLY grill the meat, but it tastes like it on a good day. their sushi is typical of most sushi restaurants. i'd choose kengo over the newer zoku for tracy sushi. read more

We eat here every other month on trips to the Bay Area. Says closes at 9pm. We walk in at 8:06. Polite lady said they were "closing". However lights were on, signs glowing. We have been coming to here for 5 plus years. Dropping $150 a month or more. No more! Tonight I asked for a Chicken and Beef Teriyaki dinner meal to go. They told me they can't do it. I had to order one of their numbered items. I asked why, they said "She" the manager on duty said no. I asked how many on duty now, she said five. Lunch bento chicken teriyaki box, chicken was okay, but not great. Tempura was overcooked and batter was very dry. California roll was small in size, very little crab. 2/5 Appetizer soft shell crab - you get one full mini crab, cut into 4-5 pieces total, good for two people to share. Tastewise was mediocre, wasn't as crunchy as expected. 2.5/5 Overall, this place delivers cleanliness and adequate customer service. Food can improve in taste. I always loved the food there and Kengo has always been my favorite Japanese restaurant in Tracy however tonight will probably be our very last time. I've ordered a lot of food togo including a miso ramen for my daughter and after eating it halfway, she saw and pulled out a piece of hair with follicle attached that looks exactly like a pubic hair. That is the MOST disgusting thing I've ever seen in my entire life!!!! Ugh!!! We all just wanted to vomit!!!!! That is so unsanitary and disgusting! I feel like it may be placed there intentionally too, looks like the hair was pulled out. Called and spoke to I believed it was the owner. She kept apologizing and didn't do anything.
