Some places just stick with you... We've been coming to Satomi for YEARS, and it's still one of those spots that feels like home every time we walk in. Everything is always prepared fresh, and we love the poke bowls, sushi rolls, crispy tempura, and delicious fried rice. But honestly... it's the service that keeps us coming back. When an owner remembers you and treats you like family, that's something truly special. And it's not just us they treat special, they continuously give back to the community and I love that they care enough to! Over 8 years later, and I still stand by every word. Hidden treasure status unlocked. But after my most recent visit, I have even more reason to love and appreciate this place, and it goes beyond the food and service. I witnessed something firsthand that really touched my heart. There was an unhoused gentleman outside who was being disruptive and destructive around the property. Instead of getting angry, escalating the situation, or simply chasing him away, Cindy approached him calmly and kindly. She asked him to stop and wait outside, assuring him that she would bring him something to eat. He listened, waited patiently at an outside table as she asked, and Cindy followed through. She came back out with a large container of miso soup and a generous to-go box of food for him. What really stood out to me was how she handled the entire situation. She took care of a difficult situation that was affecting her business and property while treating this gentleman with dignity and compassion. She even reassured the customers dining inside that everything was okay. She managed to look out for her business, her customers, and someone who clearly needed a little kindness, all at the same time. **THAT is the kind of kindness you don't forget.** It's easy to be kind when things are going well, but witnessing someone choose compassion in a challenging moment says so much about who they are. Cindy didn't have to do what she did, but she chose to see a person who needed help rather than just a problem outside her restaurant. That made a lasting impression on me. We already loved Satomi for the fresh food, welcoming atmosphere, and wonderful service, but this experience gave me another reason to appreciate them and love supporting this family owned businesses even more. They may not get enough credit for the genuinely good people they are and the positive impact they have on their community since this is not the first kind and compassionate gesture I've seen from them. I had a group of 5 - with 1 vegan and 2 vegetarians ... there were so many options and the staff was uber friendly. The owner even chatted with us (super sweet). I've been in to Satomi a couple of different times now- and it's quickly become a new go-to spot! The sushi rolls are packed and Cindy's Inferno is something I could eat every day- fried asparagus topped with tuna sashimi... chef's kiss! My favorite roll so far is the Last Samurai, but my roommate swears by the Mount Fuji. I cannot say enough of how welcoming Satomi is. Is a small establishment that makes you just feel comfy. Both of the owners always speak to me and I love talking with them. We got to talking about their children who serve in our nation's military and I also engaged in a conversation with their younger son who was helping at the register. I've never been disappointed with the food or service. Despite their AC had gone out the previous night, they still purchased and provided a cooling system so their customers wouldn't suffer during our Tracy summers. This is a family run business and just by taking a look on the wall you can see how much this family loves each other and supports each other. Several members of the family are proud service members who proudly served our country in our military. This business also supports law-enforcement. What I like about Satomi is the fresh, consistent food. The service is always friendly, too. Sushi is a treat meal so when it's time to treat myself I find a way here. I'm not super adventurous when it comes to fish and I'm glad there are plenty of options to choose from. The location is in a bit of a busy area. But walk inside and you'll be greeted kindly and seated right away. I don't see more than a small handful of other seated people at a time. Lots of to-go orders though. There's a TV playing on the far end of the restaurant and it's a dark colored theme inside. What I think is the sweetest touch though are the family photos taped to the wall just behind the cashier counter. They are posted there with so much pride. It's very heartwarming. read more
