The BBQ is the bomb. Dominick has got it going on for Texas BBQ. He's local, so give it a try.

This place is not visible from the street. It is inside the food court at Maunakea Marketplace…read more It's a hole in the wall with other food stands which you can order and eat the food inside or outside. Ordered the roast duck and roast pig rice plate as well as 1/2 pound bbq pork. The bbq pork was a solid 4 out of 5 for me. Tender and juicy since they slather the honey bbq sauce on it. The roast pork was around also around a 4 out of 5. Had a nice crisp airy skin and tender meat but just lacked a little flavor. The roast duck was a disappointment. Very salty and not much meat. A 2 out of 5 at best. The rice was a little softer and stickier which I liked so that was a 4.5 out of 5. Overall I would rate this place a 4 star. Price is reasonable but not cheap. I guess everything isn't cheap these days.

I have seen so many positive reviews on Mei Mei so I thought it gotta be good! Hmmm I wasn't sure…read moreif it was just a bad day for the chef or the quality has gotten worse? But we were so disappointed with the quality of the food we couldn't even finish everything. So I got 2 lunch orders: rice with char siu and roast pork, and rice with roast duck and chicken. I also ordered half pound of beef trip to try. So this way we got to sample everything. At the end the only thing we enjoyed was the roast pork. The skin was crispy and meat had good flavor. The duck had too much fat. There was not much meat left after getting rid of the bones and the fat. The chicken was quite mushy. The texture just was not right probably because it wasn't too fresh? The char siu was probably one of the worst I have even had. It had so much tendon that there was not a single piece that we could even chew through it. And the beef tripe was soooooo salty. It was just very disappointing. It was relatively cheap though compared to other restaurants and they gave us a very big portion but I don't think I will go back given that there are places that sell better roast duck and char siu.

The guava bar was delicious and flavorful and just crumbles in your mouth! Definitely one of the better guava bars I've tried. Love how crumbly it is. The salmon belly was delicious OMFG. It looks so simple and straightforward but that sht is so flavorful. It is crispy and yet soft on the inside. The salmon belly is cut into bite-sized pieces so I didn't have to worry about using a knife to cut it. I usually try salmon belly where it is usually seasoned lightly to bring out the natural flavor of the salmon, but Guava Smoked's salmon belly is just grilled in a way that makes the salmon sweet/crispy and still get traces of the salmon taste as well. It's definitely not your traditional Japanese-style way of cooking salmon belly but really just their own. I'd go back and get this again. Another thing too. I'd get this with beer. This would hit very hard with alcohol but because I don't drink I need a kombucha. The grilled salmon belly would go perfect with it. Cheers! Uncle was very helpful and kind when serving and if you dine-in he brings it to your table.

The patty its self was okay. Nothing super special. Unfortunately no spiciness in this dish. And the kimchi was more on the sweet side rather than the fermented spicy. Tried to add their chili pepper water but again I was left without the fiery kick in my mouth. Definitely has a strong garlicky taste though. Service is quick. But came on a Monday before dinner time so it was slow. Lots of seating and open air flow. Direct parking is limited but street parking is available.

I'm waffling somewhere between a 4 and a 5 for Moobongri's AYCE Korean BBQ experience. For the most…read morepart, their Korean BBQ experience is great. The meat is reasonably high quality, the banchan is generous (the last few times I went they even had poke as a banchan included with the meal), and the service is friendly. The "kimchee soup" is one of my favorite kimchee jjigaes on the island. Refills of meat flow generously out of the kitchen, unlike some other AYCE experiences where each subsequent order gets smaller and smaller until they finally cut you off because you've reached the time limit. I only have one gripe. While each table has a very powerful burner for grilling the meat, their universal approach is to prop up a tilted cast iron plate over the fire to grill on. It's propped at an angle so that the oil flows into a catch pan on the side. This usually means that the half of the plate tilted closer to the fire gets really hot, while the other half struggles to get hot enough and risks just boiling your meat. It also makes adjusting the fire a tricky process - if there's a lull between meats coming to your table, someone might come by and, understandably, turn down your flame. That's fine, but when the food does come out, it takes a long time to get the cast iron hot again. This doesn't stop me from coming back for more here, but just one thing I wish was better about an otherwise great experience. There is a parking lot out front but it is cramped and usually fills up. There is usually someone helping to guide parking, but when it's completely full there's only so much they can do. Street parking in the area can also be a little bit tricky.

I came here for lunch. I noticed this place changed owners awhile ago. Under the new name,…read moreMoobongri, they offer Ala carte menu items as well as an AYCE menu. I like that they open at 10am and that they serve delicious banchan. I came in one weekday and was seated at one of the regular tables. I guess they assumed I wasn't going to get the AYCE, even though it's pretty affordable for weekday lunch (like $28). Id like to come back to try the ayce sometime. I decided on the cold noodle and kalbi combo for $24. The cold noodles by themselves are only $14, so I thought there would be at least a couple pieces of kalbi in the combo. Nope. Apparently one piece of kalbi is $10. It was served hot, but it was served on a hot plate with onions and the plate itself wasn't hot. Why serve it on a hot plate? Very confusing. The cold noodles were refreshing, but you can get pretty good cold noodles at any Korean restaurant I think. I was a little disappointed in the quantity of food for the combo. Or I wish they had an actual lunch special, maybe I should have just got the ayce at this point right? But I wanted the cold noodles.... Oh well. It doesn't seem like they changed the interior all that much. It was pretty nice inside to begin with and there is a big parking lot. The workers come by when you ring the table side bell. Lol, otherwise they kind of just drop off the food and leave you alone. I was surprised there were like 3 other couples eating from the Ala carte menu at 10:30. I would possibly come back to try their other soups, but I wouldn't get suckered into getting the combos.
