Always a solid choice, here or at any of their other locations. I'm sitting here now as I write this. I ordered a crispy chicken sandwich, I ordered it twice actually because the person at the counter didn't hear me the first time. I got a crispy fish... no problem, I was thinking about it anyway and if I wanted to exchange it I'm sure they would have done it without hesitation. The fish was great, BTW. Kelly's now has some good gluten-free options and the my kids love going here. Today I saw a younger kid who may have had some emotional challenges throw his sandwich and drink at the napkin/straw counter. What a mess, his dad looked a bit mortified and began to clean up. Someone, who seemed like a manager walked over and said it's OK, they'll take care of it. I had a small pile of leftover napkins plates stacked on my table and a table-cleaner kid walked by and asked if I'd like him to take it away. Although nothing truly extraordinary, these little bits of courtesy and dedication seem to be generally lacking from the younger generation of workers. Only employees who are treated right act this way, and employees who are treated right create a better experience, which is what I attribute to the success of this small chain (that and the really good food and consistency). You know I've lived in Massachusetts all of my life and continuously would tell people how over rated Kelly's Roast Beef is.. I decided to suck it up and go in the other day and I wish I hadn't. I ordered the EASIEST meal on the menu .. chicken finger meal. I asked them for a combination of onion rings and fries. When I opened the box there was TWO onion rings about four fries and FOUR pieces of chicken. I'm sorry but for 12$ that's a JOKE. I will never be back again. Go to bill and bobs they are pricey but at least I'll have an abundance of food. This place has completely gone down hill and I will never recommended it to any family or friends. read more

I have been eating at Kellys for years, so when they opened in Danvers I was happy. I have been going to the Danvers one for many years and like it very much. With the craziness if the virus we decided to get food through curbside take out. I ordered by phone and payed with a credit card.The whole process was great,the man told me where to park and to call and my order would be brought to my car. Unfortunately there was a mix up and I didn't discover it until we were home. When I called and told of the mistake the person I talked to immediately apologized and offered to remake my order and still not charge me at all. Mistakes happen, and I understand, but the kind of response I received makes me chose Kelly's more often when I am looking for take out, and when this is over ( I am high risk) I will be enjoying going in the restaurant I wish I had gotten the young mans name, he was great read more

Kelly's Roast Beef in Danvers warrants a rare "One Strike and You're Out" review. The restaurant was so offensive that I will never be back. First, let me say that I grew up on Kelly's Roast Beef. In Revere, there is only one place to eat. Succulent melt-in-your-mouth roast beef has this sometimes-vegetarian jumping through hoops. In recent years, the restaurant has branched out to other locations, including the one near my parents' home in Danvers. We arrived tired and hungry, expecting to have our taste buds rewarded. Boy were we wrong! I ordered the usual Large Roast Beef with sauce and my BF ordered his usual, the fish sandwich. I took one look at my sandwich and declared that I could not eat it. Red blood dripped down off the meat, sullying the pristine white plate. I was reminded of the poor animal that gave its life for my dinner. Not wanting its death to be in vain, I took a bite. The tough, bloody, grisly, slab of flesh was so thick that it could not be penetrated by my human teeth. I almost puked. My gracious mate agreed to relinquish his sandwich so that I could eat. I happily traded with the cheerful carnivore, but my happiness was not going to last for long. I bit into the fish sandwich and its dark batter-coated flakes. Did I say 'dark?' We have ordered fish sandwiches at Kelly's for years and had always enjoyed the flaky 'haddock.' What was this? I picked it all apart, removing the gray areas of fish and eating the batter with tartar sauce. When we were finished eating, we returned to our vehicle for the hour-long drive home. My dining companion became incresingly perturbed by our experience and when we arrived home, he called the manager at Kelly's and described our experience. The manager made no attempt to appease us for our bloody battle with the barely dead bovine, but he did offer an explanation for the gray haddock. It turns out that the fish sandwich was not haddock at all, but pollock. We have always gotten a tasty fish sandwich, and believed it to be haddock. We were further surprised when the manager informed us that if we didn't want a gray piece of fish, we needed to request 'no tail,' when we placed our order. Sorry, but if you can't serve a meal that will satisfy a customer without them having to make a special request such as that, I will not be eating at your restaurant. The manager, when pressed by my mate, offered to send us a gift card for Kelly's that would make up for our bad experience. 5-Stars, end of story...! Ok, Kelly's is a name that is immediately recognized in the North Shore area. It started with a location in Revere, MA, on the beach, that served huge portions of all the perfectly satisfying, "boardwalk"-style foods daily to beach-goers; and then soon became a late-night, meet-greet-n-chow, for after-hours, post-party drunks and anyone else who just couldn't bring themselves to go to bed before 5 in the morning. Now they've opened up other locations (thank god) and this one, in particular, is a true good eats blessing to have so closeby. But, why is that? 1. Award winning clam "chowdah". This is not the thick, pasty, flowery kind of chowdah but the broth is more thin and creamy. It's LOADED with clams; nice, small cubes of fresh potatos; and a dollop of butter melted in for a supremely, inimitable, this-is-definitely-Kelly's, taste. I cannot get a small size, EVER. 2. Lobster rolls. No, excuse me, MUTANT Lobster rolls. I think there's at least a pound of meat in them, maybe more. But, they are HUGE and it's LOBSTER MEAT, not 50 stalks of celery mixed in to puff it out. Some might say it's pricey (currently $16.50) but I personally don't care. When I go for a lobster roll experience, I want the BEST and I want it BIG and I'll PAY for it without complaint. It comes with chips and pickles but, in my mind, I'm thinkin', "Who the hell cares?!" I throw 'em to the seagulls and eat the lobster roll... 3. Fried Clams. Ok, I think I'm unqualified to comment on the clam strips because I'm one of those who wants to eat a whole large order before I get there but after I eat 5, I start to get queasy. It can't be because of the clam strips because my friend will literally sell his body for them. I just find them a little too greasy for my taste but maybe they're supposed to be that way. But, let me just say, those first FIVE clam strips are freakin' AWESOME! Really.... 4. Roast Beef. Roast Beef. And, (you guessed it), Roast Beef. Kelly's is renowned for its seafood but it's also synonymous with (guess again!), Roast Beef. It almost seems like a law that every "roast beef" place has to put "World Famous" on their outdoor signage, but Kelly's is the only TRUE World Famous Roast Beef in the North Shore of MA as far as everyone I know is concerned. Always fresh, nice and rare, sliced real thin...gonna got me some right now.... ;) 5. Fries, Onion Rings, Fish Sandwiches, Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Roast Beef, Reuben... all very lovely, all very nice to have for those who don't get that Kelly's is about Clam Chowder, Fried Clams, Roast Beef and MUTANT Lobster rolls, but not for me. But, it's good they have them and the Reuben's actually pretty good. As for the rest: 1. Ample parking on 3 sides of the building. Easy in-out. 2. Route 128 is nearby so you can get there quickly from cities up and down the road. 3. 1 Mall literally next door; another large mall 2 minutes away. 4. Plenty of seating inside but every so often the place is jammed. 5. Take out service RULES! If you see a huge line when you pull up, just call in and you can, sometimes, walk in and go right past everyone waiting in line and get your stuff at the take out area. ;) lol, for real. 6. The inside is kinda light, airy and interesting. There's a fish tank with exotic fish and a few nice bits of memorabilia from the Revere Beach area dotting the walls. Ya, I know, they are the originators of the roast beef sandwich. However, others have since perfected the sandwhich and are better (and cheaper) than Kelly's. Go to Nick's Roast Beef in Beverly or Harrison's Roast Beef in North Andover and I dare you to say Kelly's is better. The prices at Kelly's are borderline absurd these days ($6.75 for a small beef, $7.25 for a large fry, etc.). I was doing some North Shore deliveries for a friend of mine and the traffic was so bad (and I was so hungry) that I figured I'd better pull into Kelly's for a bite and let things die down. Kelly's is great for fried clams and scallops, lobster rolls, and I guess they sell roast beef though I wouldn't know. But the #1 main reason I pulled in was because Kelly's is home to the absolute best honey mustard in the restaurant business. Look do yourself a huge favor. Go to Kelly's and just get an order of fries, any size, and plenty of honey mustard dressing. It's very light in color and super creamy style, with incredible flavor. I also got the chicken sandwich. It was very good but I wish I hadn't ordered it, as I was kinda full when I finished everything. This is one Kelly's to PASS UP. Kellys has a great reputation starting with the location on the beach in Revere. This is not the same owernship. I believe there are separate family members that own different locations. It's certainly evident at the Danvers location. Revere and Saugus are good. Danvers is not. Here's why: I've been going to this location on and off for a few years - always hoping it will get better or change. By the way, it's not all bad. The staff are super friendly but it's evident that mgmt/owernship is concerned chiefly about the bottom line. *It all started a few years ago when I overheard a manager complaining about the number of napkins the guests took and "wasted". So, they changed the napkins to single napkins that you pull out of a box. Not a big deal but a small item that adds to the equation-. *The quantity of food that you receive has decreased markedly over the years. You've always paid a bit more for quality food...but at the other Kelly's, you receive more. It's almost as if the staff are on strict orders to decrease the number of fries/onion rings on a plate order or side order. It's not even close to the other Kelly's locations. *As other reviewers have noted, the service is SLOW (especially the drive-thru). I have been offered 10$ gift cards 6x over the last twelve months as an apology. On the plus side, I was offered them without asking for anything. That said, I would rather have just received my order accurately. The quality of the food has dropped too. You can order a roast beef sandwich and have it be ice cold. Like what happened today. You can order the wraps and have them prepared the wrong way. Roast beef will come out rare when you ordered medium well. It's hit or miss. Kelly's has always been known for overdelivering for the price paid. At this location, it just doesn't happen. You pay $16 for a kids chicken plate and roast beef sandwich fries/onion rings plate. Seriously people, an average rating of three stars? Same as the Burger King across the street? I visit Kelly's a couple times a year when I'm in the area, and while it is not always perfect, it's always very good. We visited twice on our most recent trip. The first meal was the go-to combination of roast beef and chowder. The chowder was excellent, lots of clams, wonderful flavor. The roast beef this time was too well done, and a bit dry. For all their wonderfulness I don't know why Kelly's doesn't have bbq sauce available at the condiment bar. Sometimes I order extra sauce on my sandwich and get too much. This time I just ordered it with sauce and didn't get enough - the beef being dry compounded the problem. I guess I should ask for extra sauce on the side. Second visit I got a ruben, David got a shrimp roll and we split a greek salad. The ruben was first rate. David was thrilled to see the shrimp roll back on the menu and it didn't disappoint - tons of shrimp, fresh, dressed just right. Even the greek salad, a simple item, Kelly's takes the time and effort to do it right. Generous amounts of cucumber, black olives, very nice dressing - it rivaled salads at our favorite greek restaurant back home. Another complaint this trip was the fancy mix your flavor coke machine that must cost thousands served diet coke and coke zero that were both terrible. This is the stingiest location I've ever had the experience of ordering from. Their Surf and Turf consisted of very little food. I starved after finishing the meal. They put scrapes of roast beef in the buns, and it sucks when the buns outweigh the meat. Last but not least, today I ordered the clam plate and yes, good old me, I bit into a clam strip with a shell still inside and broke a molar. Not coming here again. Like eating thick rubber elastic like substance that was deep fried. I can't imagine anyone thinking they are good. It was so disgusting that I don't think I'll be going to Kelly's again any time soon. Honestly, words don't even come close to describing how disgusting "clam tenders" are. Kelly's Roast Beef is king. Not only do they have spectacular roast beef sandwiches, Kelly's also has excellent clam chowder. Much of their fried food is pretty bad (including the fries), but they make up for it with superb roast beef. Kelly's is one of the only places I will eat roast beef as they will always honor my request to cook it well done (I hate rare meat!). The beef is always lean and clearly good quality; the grilled buns add a buttery goodness to each bite. Also, the scallops are always delicious here as well, albeit very greasy. This location lacks the kitsch of the original Revere location but is spacious and has a cool fish tank to look at whilst you wait. The only thing that is a real negative here is the cluster-$#@% of a parking lot; it really is a hassle to get in and out of (especially when there are mountains of snow obstructing your view) and there did not seem to be any connection to the rest of the parking areas that service the mall and other restaurants next-door. read more

The roast beef is gross, cold and drippy with lots of hard bits. If you want good roast beef go to Nicks in Beverly!! Overpriced? Yeah. Take forever to make your food? Yeah. Best Roast Beef ever?? Yeah. First of all, they now have meals that are a little more affordable, like a cheeseburger with o-rings, fries, and a medium drink for $6.95. However, they are famous not only for their food, but their prices. There is something to be said for the quality of this delish fast food, however. The bun is always fresh and grilled. The lettuce and tomato they put on the sandwich always looks like it is ready for a photo shoot. They use the most perfect lettuce and tomato on every single sandwich. The fries are always hot and fresh. Roast beef, always delectable. The staff brings your food to you and everything! I am always appalled at the customers who think they are waiters, however. It is nice they bring your food to you, but if you want something else, or want to send your food back, please get off your asses people! Oh man. Does it get better than a Kelly's roast beef? I think the only time it has tasted better was in my early 20s at 2am on the way back from a night in Boston. So I visited the Danvers location for the first time in a while. A super beef ($7) and regular beef ($6) comes on a large sesame seed grilled with butter bun and choice of toppings. Their BBQ sauce is amazing. Every bit of roast beef melted in my mouth. It was sooooooo good. I shared a small order of onion rings ($5) with 3 others. Thick rings and not just strings- these were delicious! They have a take out, drive thru, and dine in. The dine in service is fast and they bring your order to the table pretty quick. 5 stars- can't wait for my next beef hankering... read more

This is probably the slowest Kelly's Roast beef ever. I've been here probably 5 times this year and each time it takes longer and longer to get served a sandwich. The drive thru line is always 8 cars deep.....and the service is slow. The food however...makes it worth it if your hungry enough. read more

Lobster roll #3 of my five day, five lobster roll challenge and this one goes at the bottom of the list. $17.95 for a lobster roll that was served on an over toasted hotdog roll, with lobster meat that had a watery texture that suggested it had been frozen and thawed, instead of the fresh lobster I would expect at that price point. I have never been impressed with the tough, flavorless roast beef from Kelly's, but this lobster roll sealed the deal for me. No need to return. read more

Great location. Can't miss it. Staff friendly and helpful. Wait is never long and food is always hot and fresh. Sometimes the tables aren't clean and you're stuck wiping yours off. They have the freestyle Coca Cola machines which are pretty cool. Pricing is a little more than average. There are so many more options than just roast beef. They have many seafood options, wraps & sandwiches, sides (I heard the bacon and cheese fries were amazing) and awesome milkshakes. My wife is obsessed with their lobster rolls...they're her favorite in the area. I am personally obsessed with their buffalo chicken wrap. In fact, I don't think I've ordered anything else but that. Haha. Wicked good especially with extra blue cheese if that's your thing like it is mine. Their fries are really good and thicker than most places. I'm almost positive the Mac and cheese is Kraft so I won't be ordering that again but I'm sure the kids couldn't care less. They also have a huge fish tank which is pretty entertaining for the kids...especially for the ones that love Finding Nemo since they all look like Nemo and Dory. Pretty good choice for fast food though not cheap. Drive thru option and location right off 128 exit are convenient bonuses. The restaurant is on the grounds of a shopping plaza (stand alone building). We had the surf and turf (roast beef sandwich and 4 oz lobster roll with onion rings), a fried clam plate, and a kids' meal (grilled cheese). $48. The clams were pretty good. The lobster roll and roast beef were just okay for us. Nice service on the phone and at the drive-thru window. Was only able to peek inside the restaurant from a distance from the car, but the restaurant was bigger than expected and looked like it had a spacious and clean dining area. read more

I've been here several times since my last review. I just had a really good roast beef sandwich from the Danvers location. I've been to many other Roast Beef shops, and the sandwich I got the other day was darn good. I've seen some bad reviews for this place, which is too bad. I know that roast beef sandwiches are easy to screw up, but consistency is something a restaurant needs to have. I have had a bad sandwich from this location, but that hasn't been for a while...but it can happen. I just hope that if you read this and decide to try Kelly's out in Danvers, that they make you a good sandwich...which I think your chances are good for that. Do not go to the Saugus location. Each time I go there, the sandwiches are bad. The buns are cooked too long on already burnt butter. And the beef comes out brown...not red, as it should, and the toppings are disproportionate to the amount of beef. read more
