I am a non-seafood eater, but I was here a week ago and was so impressed by my Mango Slush that I had to write a review. This is a typical summer seafood shack with window service. It's very casual, and the employee who took my order was nice. I ordered at the window and was expecting the slush to be syrupy, overly sweet and to just fill the cup. I was so surprised and delighted when I received my slush and it was huge! It also was made with real mango pulp. This was the only thing I ordered, so I can't speak to their seafood, but that Mango Slush really hit the spot on a 90+ degree day and if I go back to this area, I'll definitley stop in for another one. read more

This place blowwwwws like a blue whale. This place is cappys seafood more like Crappys seafood. I was delighted when I ordered my fried fish,but then i found a piece of tinfoil in the fish. I was super erupted by this and it truly affected my afternoons. I spent a whopping 30 dollars on a meal that was simple inedible. The employee said I could not get a refund due to the simplicity of a mistake. This is $30 of a meal that will cost you an afternoon stressing and wondering if you ate the metallic fish. I Like Cappys,been going there for about 5 years, the clams are always small ,and tender, they are not overcooked like i have had at farms in essex,also at lobster land in glouster,caoppys are always light golden ,a couple of time during the off season had a chance to speak with the owner nd his wife, both are very pleasant people ,look forward to going back 4/5 time a year, portion sizes are generous,prices are very reasonable ,for the quality that you get prices should be higher ,my friends all agree, 100% go there read more

Fried Seafood take out stand. The dining room is closed since Covid, (reason for 4 stars) but it's easy to take your meal across the street to the beautiful waterside park. Just don't let your food be unguarded or friendly seagulls will snatch your meal! I had a shrimp, scallops, and fish. It was perfect. I look forward to returning next time I'm in Salem. This is a no frills seafood joint. You come here for fast food as you stroll on the water near Salem. I had the fried clam sandwhich with fries and it was super fresh and a huge portion. My bf had the burger and it was a pretty good as well. There is a park RIGHT there so you can find a picnic table and eat your goodies as you overlook the water. read more

No-frills market priced cheap quality Fried seafood place! The guy on the line looks like he's been there since day one. Whole belly clam roll includes fries. We also got a small order of onion rings. Clams: sweet juicy, no sand and fried to perfection. Fries: meh.... frozen out of the bag. Nothing special. onion rings: fresh battered to order. Pencil thin rings with a bit of snap and salty. Tartar sauce: house made, even balance of vinegar and relish. Definitely ask for extra. I'd give this place zero stars if I could. The customer service here is terrible. The guy not sure if he's the owner started screaming at me for no reason. I thought of maybe he's just having a bad day. But found out other people have had back experiences with him too! He's legit a psychotic piece of shit! My family has been visiting Salem Willows since the late 1930's and the tradition continued until 15 years ago when I migrated to Salem and now live just around the corner. The Willows is peppered with all kinds of little junk-food-joints from greasy cheap Chinese food to puffy, bland pizza, to your choice of any kind of frozen, sugary, dairy delicacy - if you need a cholesterol or sugar fix the Willows is the place to hook yourself up! Cappy's is among them but their seafood is hands down THE BEST. With the loss of the Derby Street Fish Market and Restaurant, there aren't many choices in Salem for fried seafood - if you can believe that - unless you want to try one of the many sub & pizza places in Salem - but Cappy's has always been the place for me! Their prices may be a little high but then seafood varies in prices no matter where you go, but Cappy's has never skimped on their portions. Not only do you get seafood with the rolls, platters or boats but you can get fries, onion rings and/or cole slaw to fill a hungry stomach. I'm a HUGE fan of their scallops and clams and being a "tartar sauce snob" (ha ha) they have again, *THE BEST*. Most places it's a tangy, disgusting jelly-like substance or it's tart with a sour aftertaste. I can't pinpoint the exact ingredients of theirs except the norm being a balanced mix of relish and mayo, but I think they may add a touch of onion or something because it's delicious and to me, makes a huge difference. It may be homemade or from a jar, but I don't care - it's delicious. I'm always happy when the temperatures rise and the Willows Arcade begins opening its doors because chances are Cappy's is open for business. My diet suffers with their being open but my tastebuds are satisfied and it doesn't hurt that there's always a nice seabreeze down by the beach that I can enjoy while stuffing my face with the "greasy" goodness of Cappy's. It's your typical greasy seafood place. The only thing that really sets it apart from any other seafood place in the area is that it's right next door to two fun arcades so it benefits from the general coolness of the area but, otherwise, it's standard fried fare. The fried clams were ok but they're expensive these days. Can you imagine a large box of clams is like $32? Kelly's is like $26-$30 so Cappy's is in the ballpark and gets to add a few bucks for location. If you're in the area and want fried clams, or fried seafood and lobster rolls in general, then I'd say it's worth a trip down to Salem Willows to give Cappy's a try. You can then walk in the park, or stroll down the pier, or take yourself, or kids, to play some skiball and air hockey next door. On a nice summer night, the whole atmosphere is a real treat.... but, if you're just gonna whoof down some clams, or want to get some stuff to bring home, there's no need to pass any decent seafood places along the way. Cap's aint better or worse... it's just got a great location and does the trick if you're already there. read more

This is one of my favorite places to go for fried clams. I usually order the boat clams & French fries. Their clams are so fresh and sweet that the lightly batter does not take away from the flavors. You have to overlook some of the negatives like the ambiance and staff, but it's at The Willows which isn't gourmet dining experience to begin with. read more

The shrimp was good, the fried scallops were tender and delish as were the clams. The cole slaw was different, no mayo. As new residents of Salem. I am one that will go back. I bought a gift certificate at their location in Danvers which is now closed. I tried to use it at the Salem Willow location. I was extremely disappointed that they would not honor the gift certificate. They were the owners of the Danvers location also. I spoke to the owners at the Salem willow location, they were very rude to me and refused to honor the gift certificate. Not a very professional way to treat your customers. Took my brother and bf to the willows on Easter and we ate at Cappy's. Well, I had a potato torpedo from a few sands down, but the quality and tastiness of the grilled chicken sandwich were a very delightful surprise, and the fried clams were of course awesome. read more

The people that run this establishment treat thier customer's horribly. They do not care about loyal customers. I have been coming here since I was a small child with my mother. My mother,father entire family. It became a tradition. The older women was very nice that owned it but, I believe the family took it over. The same man that makes the onion rings has been there since as long as I can remember as well as the lady that takes the orders. I started passing the tradition on to my kids. Year after year,season after season we come multiple times. The same person waits on us over and over year after year. Well today I got french fries instead of the onion rings I have been ordering for the past 35 years. My 12 year old brought the up to the window and was turned away. I then went up to let the lady know. The same women that always waits on me argued with me and told me I ordered fry's she continued to argue with me. I told her look you see me all the time. I was here last week, you have taken my order for years. She said to me I dont care! She took the fries and threw the away and told me I owe her one dollar and change she was still talking to me very rudely. I told her this was not a way to treat a customer. I walked all the way back from the water and my hotdog was now cold she told me she didn't care and it wasn't her problem that I ordered fries. Then the same man that has seen me order for years on end told me I am a liar and that I had said fries. This was not the point anymore to me it was the way they treated a loyal customer who had spent hundreds every summer and thousands over the year. He continued to yell at me and call me a liar over french fries. I told him this is no way to treat a customer that has come there with family year after year. He then told me good ridden's he never wanted to see my face again, he also told me to get the h out of there and never come back at that point the lady handed me the onion rings. I took the entire box of food hotdog and now onion rings that I had paid for and told them they could keep it and pushed it back through the window. I then went to Cindy's next door to order myself supper. I was approached by a few customers who had witnessed what had happened and had said they would not eat there again. By the looks of things they seem to hate working there, don_t even want to see their customers and while other establishments have long lines they don't not to mention they do not take credit cards so one has to use their atm that charges $3.50. Stay away these people are not good business owners or good people. There are plenty of other great business's at the Salem Willows who appreciate their customers and as I found out tonight have a lot fresher food. read more
