I've been to several Palm Beach Tan locations over the years and have never really had much to say…read moreabout the facilities or the team, positive or negative. However, I recently had a really good experience (last Friday) thanks to one of the employees, Kyle, that was so great it prompted me to leave a review. I have a monthly package for unlimited spray tans and the machine I typically use was being fixed, so I had to use the other machine - one I'd never used before. Kyle took the time to walk me through the pros/cons, the differences, and even cautioned me against using a bronze color setting that he assured me would come off on my clothes. Then, he personally walked me back to the booth, explained the entire process (since this booth was very different than the one I typically use), and even stepped into the booth to show me exactly how to stand and operate the controls. He was helpful, upbeat, and much more professional than you might expect a younger person in this type of customer service role to be. A+ customer service Kyle!

Lights off. No staff. Nothing. Their sign said Sunday "By Appointment Only," yet apparently even when you have an appointment, no one shows up. I called their Bethesda location, and the first receptionist claimed we weren't in the system--even though I booked on Wednesday at 2:22 PM (I checked my call log and took a screenshot). Someone took all of my details including my credit card, but somehow my appointment "didn't exist." Then the owner got on the phone and said she actually could see me in their system but didn't know what happened. She blamed a software switch on Tuesday... but I booked on Wednesday. So that excuse made no sense. Her only solution was to ask if we could come tomorrow. No, we actually can't--because unlike her business, we plan ahead. I took the weekend off from my real estate schedule to celebrate. We booked a hotel in Tysons, hired a dog sitter, and made a whole day of this. And it was completely wasted. What really stunned me was the total lack of care. No apology that felt meaningful. No attempt to make it right. No offer of a complimentary service. Nothing. I'm a business owner myself, and I would never handle a mistake like this this way. Our anniversary plans were basically ruined because this spa didn't bother to honor our confirmed appointment--or provide any real remedy afterward. Don't waste your time or money here. If they can't handle a simple booking, I wouldn't trust them with anything else either.

The woman at the front desk asked us questions (I was with a friend who was also new to spray tans) and we told her we were new and needed lots of guidance. Anytime she would ask a question and we didn't know what she meant she would awkwardly laugh at us. Maybe it is super rare to get first time tanners. She was very helpful when it came time to using the machine, but oh my goodness. The machine kept repeating that it was heated but it was so incredibly cold and miserable! And once we got out of the machines our faces were a disaster! It was super splotchy on both of us. I went home and washed my face right away. I don't think I ever need to get a spray tanning again, at least not from here.

The prices seemed great for the number of services you can get and the reviews online seemed good as well. This was a completely new experience for us, so we were very confused about what to do. Bring a swimsuit, but know that the spa workers will get up and personal. We began in the steam room and that was super relaxing. We then moved to the tables. There they scrubbed us down for a good 45 minutes. It felt sooooo good. They kept pouring hot water on us. They did a face mask and massaged our heads. I almost fell asleep when we did this. We showered off and then we got a deep tissue massage. The woman who worked on me kept massaging my bone, so that was painful but other than that it was great. We left the spa feeling smooth and relaxed. I'd recommend going here for a fun experience.

Main reason for 3 stars is because of their student ID policy: you can only use your student ID if…read moreit has an expiration date on it. Mine doesn't, and there's nothing I can do about that since my school doesn't print them on their IDs. I said that I could provide an actual certificate of enrollment or a "Good Student Discount Certificate" from the National Student Clearing House, multiple other different ways of bona fide verification and she wouldn't let me. The woman at the front desk said that's the only way "she" (purportedly the owner/boss, who is not her) allows them to do it. I explained that those are just as good as a date on a card, but she still wouldn't let me and told me that "it was only $5 more so it's not that big of a deal." It was actually $8 more, and if that money isn't that big of a deal, they should have been fine with honoring my ID with multiple certificates. I'm not upset about compliance with the policy (other than the fact that telling someone to pay more money "isn't that big of a deal" is rude) but rather the policy itself; I think that disallowing someone to show other bona fide (arguably more credible) methods of enrollment verification is arbitrary. Seems like they try to get students in by having the student discount rate but ultimately not allowing them to use it so they still get the full price. Otherwise, the spray tan in the VersaSpa was mostly fine, I have been tanning in VersaPros regularly for about 5 years, and they have 3 nozzles (as opposed to the VersaSpa's 2) and I feel like I get a better tan with the VersaPros, so I feel like $35 is a little much to charge. Additionally, the mist coming from the nozzles felt very light, which means the nozzles probably haven't been cleaned, leaving your spray lighter. However, after only a couple minutes outside, the spray completely came off/ran under my boobs, which has never happened with any VersaPro I've used. It was also very light on my legs, but that happens with every Versa I've used. The nice thing about this place is that they provide towels, baby wipes, feet protectors for the bottom of your feet, hair ties, shower caps, and barrier cream, which is more than the norm where I usually tan. She also told me about after tan care, including mentioning that Dove products take all Versa sprays off, which I never knew. TL;DR: don't expect to use your student discount, tan is ok, customer service is mixed.
