Do not get a spray tan here. I went on a Wednesday morning, got a spray tan. While I was in the Machine something fell off and I alerted the staff when I left the store. Once my tan developed I called the store to alert them that I think their machine was broken and I wasn't offered to get a refund. I spent 30 dollars to buy things to remove this. read more

Going to palm beach tanning for years I have met many different employees with different personalities ranging from very nice who are very pleasant to those who unfortunately come across very rude I think it's due to their own insecurities and no amount of training will change that and Lately we see more of them in service industries I usually try to avoid those places! To my surprise I finally met a very friendly but professional agent at Palm beach Falls Church "Casey" who turned out to be assistant manager, unlike many others who appear disinterested to answer any questions Casey took her time explaining different types of lotions and I ended up purchasing one even though I already had one at home. Not to be confused with Balmy Beach Tan, which is a little, well... balmy. I used this Palm Beach Tan as the very first one I ever visited, and for this reason it's sentimental to me, but it also has a little bit of an attitude, and some question marks surrounding it. Although the super sweet, cute girl tried to be nice, she didn't handle the situation very well, with the woman in charge not having set up my password for me, and if I hadn't pulled it out of the fire with the help of the Texas regional manager at the last minute, it wouldn't have ended very well, and it would have had a lower star rating. read more

I love Palm Beach Tan. I've been a member for many years and I'm just now seeing these negative reviews. I don't know why. I guess anyone can have a bad experience but generally this location is on top of it. I was once turned away 20 minutes before closing (because the teenager was ready to go home) and I sent an email to the store and the district manager contacted me immediately and resolved it. Great customer service. Also, the Sunscape provides a fantastic spray tan! It looks incredibly natural. People often ask me if I've been laying on a beach! Anyway, don't hesitate to go here. When I called to obtain detail of the charges that my daughter was incurring on her debit card, I spoke with the manager, Susan. This is a review of their sign up and billing practice. Make sure you see in writing what you are signing up for and get a printed copy of everything you sign that day. Long story short, the person at the front desk either made an honest mistake that Palm Beach wouldn't correct, or they have deceptive practices. I came in for a three tan package and have ended up paying nearly $500 for a few days of tans. --- I came in and selected a three tan package as I need a quick boost of color and I was relocating to an area where there wasn't a Palm Beach Tan. I was told to sign on a small box that doesn't display what you're signing. The front desk person told me verbally one was for Virginia rules about tanning, the other was the same for Maryland rules and the other was for my credit card. Other than the standard credit card receipt with the amount paid that day, I never received anything else in print or email about my package. I noticed that I was being charged each month. I called the 800 number on my credit card, the phone number the Palm Beach Tan website (voicemail box only), as well as submitted on an online form on the website. Palm Beach's response was that they could not find a record of me in their system. I then contacted my bank to dispute the charges. My credit card wouldn't stop the charges because Palm Beach provided them my signature saying I signed up for a stop and save - which I did not ask for or know I was doing. It's upsetting (& questionable) that Palm Beach provided my bank these records after telling me that they could not find a record of me in their system. It could have been an honest mistake on the front desk person to register me for a different package than I wanted, but to not provide any type of access to what I actually signed up for and then deny my cancellation is ridiculous. It's very obvious I came in for the designated package of tanning and never returned to tan again. And now I never will. Palm Beach Tan in this area has gone complete downhill! First of all, their phones don't work when you need to call them. How is a business operating without a phone? The women at the front desk are completely rude and speak condescendingly. There is one who wears a mask and will speak with a complete attitude and stare at you so angrily behind her mask, I think her name is christy. Mediocre at best I really wanted to like this tanning salon, but for the price, I really did not find the service nor the beds to be up to standard. It seems that any time I go in here, I have to wait a few moments to have any one even come to the front desk to get me signed in. The location is normally pretty empty, yet I have to wait to be helped almost every time. This is especially frustrating when there are multiple staff just hanging out outside talking to one another, while I walk in and wait. With that, the beds never seem to bronze me quite like they would at previous salons in the past. I don't know much of the behind the scenes of beds, but it seems the light bulbs must be worn down or something going on! The beds at this salon are standard, nothing special. I'm always satisfied with my color but took 3 stars off for customer service because the girls that work here lack the most basic customer service skills, such as greeting your customer and thanking them when they leave. I am barely acknowledged when I visit and I've been coming here for at least 5 years now. I'm a fair skinned black woman and wear my hair in braids, I hope that has nothing to do with the level of service provided but I can't help but wonder.... Got my first spray tan. My tan looks fine, but the experience could have been better. I was confused about how to choose from the three booth options, and the difference wasn't made clear even after I asked about it. All the woman who was helping me said was that she'd never seen anyone who works there use the VersaSpa. So I just randomly picked the Mystic booth out of the other two. I was also confused about the products they were trying to sell me -- I was told to buy a bronzer "so the tan won't be orange." It's 2021 and I'm paying over $50 for a spray tan -- shouldn't it be a given that I won't be orange? FWIW, I didn't buy the extra bronzer, and I'm not orange. I did buy the "primer" although I have no idea what it was supposed to do and it was an extra $10. The room with the booth was a bit dirty; there was someone else's used towel on the floor. I think I was supposed to get goggles as a sign in the room told me to wear them, but there weren't any so I just closed my eyes. The music seems to be stuck on country music even though there is a dial to change the music--I tried to change it and it just kept playing bad country. I think I paid $52? Maybe $55? It's expensive enough that I'd expect a better experience. read more

I am not an experienced tanner but wanted to get a few sessions in before an upcoming trip to Florida. I chose to go to the falls church location because they had a parking lot. When I got there I needed more explanation than the average customer since I was a newbie. When I walked in there was no one at the counter. I waited about 5 minutes before I almost walked out but the girl working the counter finally finished doing whatever she was doing to come help me. I had explained I was new to indoor tanning and wanted a few sessions before going to Miami. She didn't explain the differences between any of the bed strengths or how long I should go in for! After I already told her I had no idea what I was doing she asked me how long I wanted to go in for... like I told you I don't know ! She was so not helpful. She finally sold me 4 sessions for $104. She never explained what I was paying for. She also told me to go two sessions platinum and two sessions diamond and never once said that the diamond would cost more on top of the $104 (which I found out later on). She then gave me a half used lotion and told me to use it. Never explaining what it was or if it was included in my $104. When she finally told me what bed I was in she didn't even come show my how to work the machine after I already told her multiple times I don't know how to do it. When I came out I didn't know what to do with the lotion ? Was this half bottle of lotion for me to keep ? Was it just to be used for this session ? I had no idea. Since yet again there was no one at the counter when I left I took the lotion since no one instructed me what to do with it. After that nightmare of and experience I took the risk of the parking situation and went to Clarendon! They are 1,000 times better (5 stars)! When I got there I told them what had happened the day before at falls church and they were shocked! They were even more shocked when they realized falls church let me tan without even filling out a consent form! SHAME ON THEM! All in all GO TO CLARENDON! I've been to several Palm Beach Tan locations over the years and have never really had much to say about the facilities or the team, positive or negative. However, I recently had a really good experience (last Friday) thanks to one of the employees, Kyle, that was so great it prompted me to leave a review. I have a monthly package for unlimited spray tans and the machine I typically use was being fixed, so I had to use the other machine - one I'd never used before. Kyle took the time to walk me through the pros/cons, the differences, and even cautioned me against using a bronze color setting that he assured me would come off on my clothes. Then, he personally walked me back to the booth, explained the entire process (since this booth was very different than the one I typically use), and even stepped into the booth to show me exactly how to stand and operate the controls. He was helpful, upbeat, and much more professional than you might expect a younger person in this type of customer service role to be. A+ customer service Kyle! read more

This is my favorite location. I come here a few times a year to get a nice base before the summer. The standups here are the best and you will always end up getting an even tan. The front desk people are also very helpful. Whenever I come they always tell me what the best deals are. For example, I wanted to get a stand up single tan which is $23. The lady informed me that you get a free tan with the purchase of lotion. So I ended up getting an extra bottle of lotion with my tan. You also get a free tan when it's your birthday so be sure to sign up for the mailing list. read more

I bought a spray tan package about a month ago- 3 tans for like $90 I believe. The 2nd time I went in, I got a clear spray. In the morning the next day, however, the tan did not show up. I got the dark level, so I thought this was weird. The only slight change in color on my skin was on my hands, where I had applied barrier cream/washed immediately after (also thought that was weird...). I have been spray tanning for years--I know the drill. I was an NCAA cheerleader in college and that's literally what we'd do for every game lol. So no, I did not shower or work out after getting it, I wore loose clothing (t-shirt in the dead of winter...) and even flip flops, got it at night as to avoid messing it up with clothing/exercise/etc., and made sure I exfoliated/did not have any oils/makeup/lotions on my skin beforehand. Even so, the tan did not show up like it usually does. This was also just really disappointing because it was my birthday weekend--I just wanted to look tan and pretty lol. So the next morning, I called to tell them what happened. I spoke to an employee (didn't tell me her name) who said that sometimes the clear just doesn't work as well, and recommended next time I get bronze ("Catalina"). Then she said she would give me another tan on my account as a sort of reimbursement for it not working, which I thought was a very nice and courteous thing to do. And that was that. So today I came in to get my 3rd tan (which would have been my last in the package, except the employee I had spoken to earlier in March gave me the free one). So after getting all set up, I asked when my next, final tan would expire. This employee started to check and then said "oh wait this is your last one." So then I proceeded to tell her what had happened and how the employee from the phone call told me back in March that she put a free one in my account. She seemed confused by this because there were no notes in my account about it at all. So I guess whoever I talked to in March either forgot or just lied to me and didn't put it in. The manager (blonde, can't remember her name but she's always there) came out and I told her what had happened. So she started to help me and pointed out that there was no record/no notes pertaining to my previous phone call. And then she kinda just like stared at me as if to say "sorry, tough" lol. So I repeated to her exactly what her employee told me- that sometimes the clear doesn't work that well and that next time I should get bronze and that she would give me a free tan. I even volunteered to show her the phone log from March 10th. Again she just pointed out the lack of record, and then said that the policy on this was basically the customer has to come in and show in proof that the spray did not show up. I would have happily come in on March 10 to do this, had the employee on the phone told me to do so. But she didn't. She simply said that she was going to add a free tan on my account. I repeated that to the manager, that she did not specify that I had to come in. Then the manager just gets into the technicality of things, talking about how there was "no way" that the clear spray wouldn't have worked, that she didn't know why an employee would say that. This was all said to me in a way that insinuated that I "must be lying." She asked me when I showered after it, to which I replied, "the next morning," to which she replied, "like what time?"--basically insinuating that I screwed it up. I don't remember exactly what time I showered...it was almost A MONTH AGO. I know it was a Saturday morning, so it would not have been early. Even if it were early, they advertise no showering/working up a sweat for about 6-8 hours after. I got the spray around 7pm that Friday night, probably did not shower until around 10am the next morning. That means that well-over 12 hrs had passed since I got the spray. This place is the only game in town for indoor tanning which is why they are in business at all. Their pricing plan is ridiculous and the only way to avoid over paying is to lock into a monthly plan. The price they quote you at the counter is not the amount they debit from your account. It's more (presumably because of high taxes on tanning salons). The girls that rotate through here to work are stuck up and snotty. The beds work great and they are kept pretty clean so if you need to tan and live in a 10 mile radius just hold your nose and use them. read more

It most expensive and worse tanning salon what I ever was. Yesterday I did membership for this salon, n paid in total more then 90$. It was 49$ monthly + 20$ membership fee and some cheap lotion. I got my first session which was not good , they has extremely cold floor and they didn't put any peace of carpet on it . I had stand up bed which was very nosy and I really don't understand for what I paid this money. Next day I came to this salon again at 1:26 pm. And they said my I had yesterday tanning at 1:56 so I can't come here for tanning earlier then 1:56. The salon was empty. But they didn't let me go for the tanning. Said come back at 1:56. I was drawn in by a 3-month special, March-May 2013, and found I had unwittingly signed up for a whole year, which they kept billing even though I SAID my May sunless tan would be my last one under that arrangement. They finally called me back and apologized, and I got a store credit. Just be careful you're not signing an on-going contract if you don't want one. I've been spray tanning at Solar Planet in the Clarendon area for 4 years. Tonight, I got there at 7 and they had just closed. I decided to try out Palm Beach Tan on a friend's suggestion. They even offered a free sunless tan coupon on their website - a 45 dollar value. Last month I tried a place out in Florida and liked their Mystic Booth. I was very happy to find out Palm Beach Tan has the newer kind as well. Solar Planet does not. I was very happy with my mystic tan. It's the kind that walks you through the steps, etc. It's also a single cartridge and you can add bronzer or some scents. I'd give it 5 stars, but 69 bucks a month will add up. The bronzer and scents will also cost you around 2 bucks extra a pop. But, I'm willing to pay for quality :) The booth had a built in dryer which I really liked. They have ample parking and best of all their hours rock. No more being doors closed at 7pm or 5pm on Sunday. I liked the place enough to sign up tonight and will be cancel ling my Solar Planet membership on Monday. Now, Solar Planet does offer for it's 62 bucks a month unlimited sunless tanning and the tanning beds...so if you want to do both, you'll have to ask Palm Beach Tan about what that will cost you. As for one of the persons who reviewed the place and felt awful about herself because she was "forced" to buy products....well, I'm not sure who she dealt with, but Caitlin helped me. She answered all my questions, suggested a product, and explained the system. I never felt pressured to buy anything and even if I had, I'm a big girl and can decide on my own if I want to buy something. I mean, really, unless someone is holding a gun to your head....just politely say no. But, remember, it's part of their job. I have always loved tanning, something I should probably keep to myself. After my wedding I gave up the "electric beach," for spray tanning and stayed with Palm Beach Tan - I've been a "member" for more than 3 years. They offer both Mystic and Versa Spa spray-tan options and, though I no longer indulge, their higher-end electric beds are fantastic. The staff varies by location, however Falls Church is the friendliest in my experience. The only thing keeping me from the 5-star-review is that certain staff can be intense about selling products, which, as such a long-time customer, feels a little rude and unprofessional to me. Ideally the staff should see that customers that have been coming in for years maybe don't want/need the sales pitch every time they walk in. That being said, I've always been impressed by their cleanliness, hours and variety of tanning options. read more

This place is AWFUL! I've never experienced such poor customer service and the machines are always broken. The staff is RUDE and unprofessional. If it is open, which many times it is not even during posted hours, you have to pray the machines work and are sanitary. Today when I tried to do a spray tan, the manager was in such a bad mood that her rudeness was beyond the pale. I thought maybe it was just me but then I watched her berate and threaten another customer. I tried to step in because this employee seemed unstable. I have reached my breaking point with this place and am DONE. Corporate - you need to close this location and start over. Seriously. It is a horrible. Read all of these reviews. They are not wrong. I have been a member at PBT for about two years and they have an awesome program where you can freeze your account and unfreeze it when you are ready to tan again. This location is GREAT!!! The staff is helpful and kind and patient. Sometimes the place gets busy but it makes sense that it would be busy during peak hours. This is the most pleasant Palm Beach Tan I've been to in this area. The beds are always clean, there is ALWAYS an associate at the front to check you in and help (which is untrue at the other locations I have been to), like another reviewer said the associates are not too pushy with their products(which is how it is at other locations), and even when there are a bunch of people there waiting they get the beds cleaned and ready for the next customer quickly and efficiently. The only reason I give this 4 instead of 5 stars is because the PARKING SUCKS, it is very limited and if you go after work around 6 you'll have to circle the lot multiple times to get a spot, but honestly for the good customer service it's worth it. read more
