Props to Kehau's Kitchen for 1. staying open and providing delicious meals during this crazy pandemic and 2. giving discounts to their customers (talk about WOW!). I first saw their post on IG about a 10% discount on all take out orders if you mention that you heard about it on social media. However, when I got there, a sign on their door said that all you had to do was mention a 10% discount...so I guess anyone can get it. Also, for all you Yelpers...if you write a review, all you have to do is show them your review and photo and you'll get a 15% discount on your order! Sweet! I visited Kehau's Kitchen a while back and had fond memories of the kalua pork sliders that I had ordered. They use the King's Hawaiian buns that we all know makes everything better. I knew that I HAD to put this in my order. I also saw these amazing poke nachos on their IG page so I ordered that as well. Oh, and when squid luau is on the menu, you can't forget that, too! When I was given my order, the girl said that they weren't able to find the King's Hawaiian buns so they just used a regular sesame bun to make my kalua pig sliders order. I really wish they had told me this when I had placed my order because I would have chosen something else. Maybe I hyped it up in my head to be something it wasn't, but not having the buns to make small sliders really makes a difference for some reason. I remembered really enjoying it the first time I had it here. Eating it as a sandwich just wasn't as enjoyable. Make sure to ask that they have the King's Hawaiian buns when you order this to make it at least more enjoyable. Honestly though, it was pretty plain and I think all they did is slap on some sriracha sauce to add some flavor to it, which sadly isn't much. Kamakaze poke nachos was the winning menu item in this takeout order! It comes with wonton chips, which in my opinion always makes nachos better. They packaged everything separately so it becomes a DIY nachos kit when you get home. There was a huge container of the chips, a container of shoyu poke, and small containers for the unagi sauce and sriracha sauce. If you were to get this in the restaurant, everything would be piled onto the chips for you. However, when I ate this at home, I just put a piece of poke and some sauce on each chip for a proportioned amount with every bite. I would definitely come back here just for these nachos. Almost didn't get my squid luau order. Good thing I checked to make sure I had my whole order before leaving. They weren't busy or anything, so not sure what happened. Squid luau was okay. Wouldn't say it's the best I've had nor the worst, but It's a good value because you get a LOT! I've had it at other places for the same price and you get way less. read more

Holy smokes guys, this place is really something! I ordered the poke nachos thinking that it would be just enough for me... the large plate needed to be held closed with a rubber band! Holy smokes! When you think poke nachos you'd think wonton, poke, and unagi sauce. That's pretty much what I got but there's something else about these nachos that makes them really Ono! My partner on the ambulance had ordered the Kailua pig sliders and this were PACKED with Kailua pig. So much so that there was Kailua pig falling out of the buns. It's not a proper trip to Hawai'i without having local Hawaiian food. And that was the craving that led me to Kehau's Kitchen. Unfortunately there weren't any good authentic local owned spots around Honolulu, so I had to head out to Aiea for this craving fix. The family owned restaurant, located in a unassuming strip of businesses, had plenty of parking. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming from the moment you enter the doors. There's a nice selection of local specialties to make anyone happy (unless you're vegetarian or vegan). I got the Local Boy Combo, which consisted of a Lau Lau, Kalua Pork, Grilled Pulehu (short ribs) - all piled over a huge bowl of rice and with a side of Lomi Salmon. The portion is big and was perfect for sharing with my partner. I had also wanted to try the Tripe Stew, however it was not ready yet. The Lau Lau was really good, moist and filled with a nice amount of meat. The Kalua Pork was equally good, very well flavored and not dry at all. The star of this dish was definitely their Grilled Pulehu. Something about their secret marinade elevated the standard grilled short ribs up a level. There was a nice sweetness that brought balance to the savory. I couldn't stop eating it from the first bite on! Service was above and beyond the usual in Oahu. My friends and I chatted with the chef-owner and enjoyed hearing of his thoughts and creative processes in his culinary pursuits. We were thrilled to try their new salsa recipes in the making and shared our honest feedback. His mother was also working there and was our lovely server. She was equally warm and friendly and by the time we finished our meal, it felt like we were friends. That's how amazing the service and connection with them was. That Grilled Pulehu though...might be worth a trip back to Oahu. read more

This is such a cute little place, that is so easily missed driving through a shopping center, but we are so happy we found it! We got a ahi soya Ahi tuna poke with chips and rice, a $1.50 Tuesday chicken taco, and a soyu chicken. Everything tasted delicious! I especially liked the nacho chips with the ahi, because it was fresh, crispy and topped with a sweet sauce and a spicy mayo. The haupua Coconut pudding was a nice sweet treat. Its been awhile since I had Hawaiian food so we ordered the local boy, ($22,)which comes with 3 pieces of Pulehu ribs, pork lau lau, kalua pig, beef stew gravy, and with a choice of lomi salmon or haupia. We went with lomi salmon, and added an egg for $1.25. The local boy is huge, a local boy and local girl can finish this, (hehe) The bowl came with rice, covered with kalua pork, then with Pulehu ribs. The ribs are huge! My other half enjoyed the ribs with his egg, mentioned it was like eating steak and eggs for breakfast. The lau lau was huge, it was good but little on the dry side so I add the chili pepper water. The Kalua pork was light and didn't have the strong smoke flavor, which I miss. The lomi salmon was really good. Doing Keto, it was really hard not having carbs, so I just had to have a small scoop. We still had leftovers of kalua pork and half of the lau lau. Note, if you love spicy, like I do, get the pickled jalapeno for $1, I got one to go, to eat with my leftovers the next day, I sliced up the jalapeno and had it with my kalua and Lau lau, it was good! Yeeeess! Got a lovely taste of authentic Hawaiian food! A family-friend took us here for a late lunch and definitely a great hole-in-the-wall establishment. The staff were very nice and friendly and provided absolutely great service! The food was amazing and as I usually am not fond of pork, but had to try it since the family friend assured me they cook it much differently. And so I agreed and got the Kalua Pork Combo - kalua pork, pulehu ribs, haupia, lomi salmon and rice. Sure enough, my family friend was right! It was cooked very well with no gamy taste. I was able to consume about half and gave the rest to my brother since I couldnt finish it all. The ribs were also good and not dry. The haupia was also good with the coconut taste - very similar to our culture's dessert. The lomi salmon was unique as it somehow had this very tangy flavor, but it was also good. I have my fellow yelpers to thank for finding this gem because I found it through the activity page. I've been living in salt lake for the past year and I have had to break up with the clutch being a "townie" was to me. I've done my fair share of exploring the central area of Oahu (aiea, waipio, Pearl city) but I would have never thought to have stumbled into kehau's kitchen if it weren't for its gleaming reviews. You can find this place in that complex across the street and to the left of Bravo restaurant/Anna miller's. The inside isn't quite spacious but it does give a very hole-in-the-wall ambience. What's even more unique about this spot is that it's either a hardcore Hawaiian food place or hardcore Mexican cuisine place. Why not have both? I was out doing errands and decided it was time to try them out one night. Because I really couldn't decide between Hawaiian food or Mexican food, I did get both--their Laulau combination plate AND a quesadilla. It must be a poppin spot because the inside was a full house and I had to wait 30 mins for my take out order. It wasn't a problem because I just placed the order then proceeded to run my errands. By the time I was done, the food was, too. So I swooped the food and headed home, excited for my Hawaiian and Mexican-cravings to be fulfilled. I started with the heavier stuff- laulau. A good laulau is one that is rich in flavor and that is what I had this night. The meat was juicy and soft and it wasn't too salty paired with the leaves it was wrapped in. The lomi salmon was refreshing to pair with and the white rice just balanced the entire party going on in my mouth. I tried my best to savor every flavor in each bite. I then proceeded to cleanse my mouth with water to try out the next thing--quesadilla. Yes, im a hungry girl. The quesadilla had a smoky grill taste to its tortilla and the cheese pull from biting a piece from its body was immaculate. It wasn't anything more extraordinary than cheese in a tortilla but it sure was many levels better than having ordered one from Taco Bell. If you want hawaiian food avoid Kehau's. Poi, which should be a no Brainerd, was stale (beyond the traditional sour poi taste). Polehu chicken was overcooked and very dry. Could not eat it. Kahlua pig had over abundance of liquid smoke taste and was not shredded the traditional Hawaiian way. The only thing we thought was ok was the haupia. It would have been better to get the individual items from Costco and make it yourself. Sad as the place was better with the previous owner. I talked to the staff and the main chef was not working. But it's really no excuse to still serve very disappointing Hawaiian food. Would really like to see them be high quality so they don't have more disappointed customers. read more

Really friendly waiter, delicious Hawaiian and Mexican food, and hugeee portions. I don't think anyone in my party finished their food. It was all delicious, it was just a ton of food! They all ordered poi as their sides to try something new but the waiter brought them all free sides of rice just as well in case they didn't like it (which was an excellent call and very generous on the waiter's part). The poke nachos are insane and most definitely should be shared. The restaurant itself is pretty small although it can accommodate groups of up to 8 people. We came in on a Sunday afternoon. Our table ordered the lau lau combo plate (comes with ribs, rice, coconut dessert, and Lomi), shoyu chicken, and ahi spicy poke. First off, service is stellar. Everyone there was super friendly and attentive. The poke... YES. Get it here! We tried another well known poke place in the area and theirs here was way better. Cheaper, better quality, and just overall well worth the visit to just eat this. The lomi was also super flavorful. Everything was delicious and authentic. The only complaint I have is that the lau lau doesn't have a lot of meat in it. It's mainly the leaf, but still good nonetheless. read more

I really hate to do this during covid times but I was very disappointed at my plate that I had ordered for take out. Since I had to run a couple of errands in the area I decided to pick up some food on my way back to town to eat for dinner. Came across this restaurant and saw the 4.5 star ratings so I decided to give them a try. The ordering process was fine, no issues although the squid luau that I wanted to try was sold out... it was about 3:30p so I get that, no problem whatsoever. Bummer! I really love squid luau... anyway, I ordered the laulau combo and chicken long rice. So after returning home and letting my dinner cool, I place it in the fridge.... Now getting ready to eat I noticed the chicken long rice is different. I'm okay with different but when pouring out the long rice to a bowl so I can heat up I notice the top just loaded with oil. I mix it around since I figure I didn't eat it right away.... But after trying it.... It was very inedible. I've attached a pic so you can see the thick layer of oil that separated.... It's not your standard chicken long rice..... I've never had a long rice that tasted oily anywhere so this was definitely terribly different. And it was $6.25.... :( The menu said it comes with pulehu ribs but my order came with chicken.... Hmmmm.... I'm not sure if I was looking at an outdated menu... or they just ran out of it. If they did run out I'm sure they would have mentioned when I placed the order, since they told me about selling out of the squid luau. Unfortunately, the chicken was very dry and hard. I don't think it was because it was not eaten right away, since I've had leftover Teri chicken before and it doesn't taste that way .... The laulau was okay, probably only decent thing IF I had to pick one thing..... Was looking forward to trying Hawaiian food other than my usual spots.... We were looking for dinner options in Aiea on our way home from North Shore, and we came across the well-rated Kehau's Kitchen on Yelp so we went to check it out. Located in a small strip mall in Aiea, Kehau's is a small restaurant with just a few tables. They serve local Hawaiian food as well as Mexican options and poke nachos. When we arrived for dinner around 6:15pm on a Saturday night, they were already sold out of kalua pork and short ribs. We ended up trying the laulau combo, shoyu chicken, teriyaki beef, and enchilada plate with green salsa. The wait for the food was fairly long for the mostly empty restaurant, and it seems like they get a lot of to-go and catering orders. The Hawaiian food was good and flavorful and came with rice as well as a choice of lomi salmon, potato salad, or haupia. However, the enchiladas were very spicy! I was warned about said spice when the server handed me the plate (rather than when we were ordering the food...), and I was taken aback as enchiladas are usually quite mild in spice unless explicitly stated otherwise. While I can handle a moderate amount of heat, it was unfortunately a little too much for me to enjoy my food. These were the best nachos I've ever had. In every aspect. The crunchy texture and light airiness to each bite was so satisfying, and each chip absorbed the flavors of the sauces and kalua pork perfectly. The taste of the chips isn't overly salty but isn't without flavor either. It's a great foundation for the toppings you can add to it. The kalua pork melded effectively into the dish, and mixed even better with the rice and beans I "borrowed" from my brother's plate when he wasn't looking. Speaking of the other dishes, the peluha chicken and pork quesadilla I stole bites of were incredible. The meat of each was so succulent and the flavor brought by their seasoning shines through just smashingly. The owners were very friendly and welcoming as well. My whole family ordered food from Kehau's Kitchen which also claims Hawaiian food. I ordered the local girl. I opened my plate to super burnt short ribs, the Kalua pork was not like regular Kalua pork it was more like carnita meat that's been chopped and fine shredded (they also serve some Tacos and other items and I suspect they use the same pork meat for their Mexican food items). I also opened the little container that came with the plate and it had a tiny piece of tripe and a tinier piece of meat, like what was that? Was it supposed to be a tiny amount of tripe stew or beef stew? Or gravy, with tripe or beef? I'm confused there. When I called, someone named GLORIA said their grill was broken, so I told her that's no excuse, the person plating or cooking the food should have known NOT to serve the burnt food. Like, fix your grill before you serve anymore super burnt food. Some people might like super burnt food but not everyone. So, she also told me they didn't have tripe stew today (8/7), when I asked about the small container of tripe or beef stew. So where did the mysterious tripe in my little container come from?? She said they only serve some beef stew gravy for the rice. Ok, so the tripe had been there from when they had tripe stew? If so, how many days ago was that, and why is tripe IN the beef stew gravy if they're both separate on the menu?? It's a mystery and my family who lives here won't be going back. My bro-in-law & my husband poured water out of their so called haupia. It wasn't even haupia, there was chewy little lumps, which means too much cornstarch. Don't make carnitas and call it Kalua pork, the flavor is off and how they shred it wasn't right. Haupia is easy to make, cut down your cornstarch or it will be chewy. Be mindful of what you're serving to the public, whether it's burnt or raw, check the food that goes out. Someone should be the last in line to make sure the food is quality. You may have won awards in the beginning, but inconsistency & not caring about what's coming out of your kitchen afterwards will catch up eventually. We finally got to dine in at this establishment. The food was very flavorful and delicious. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. My beautiful daughter ordered the Pork Enchiladas and loved very bite. She said it was really good. My wife ordered the Cheese Quesadillas and enjoyed her meal. I ordered the Local Girl that came with 3 Pulehu Ribs ontop moist and flavorful Kalua Pork ontop perfectly cooked rice and a side of Lomi Lomi Salmon. Super disappointing!! Went there -about 330pm on a Sunday. Almost everything was out. No kalua pig, no Mexican food; quesadillas, burritos, no carne asada was all sold out. A bit overpriced to me especially for side order of squid luau they charged me almost $16 for a half pound container that didn't have much squid but more soup instead. Kinda disappointed that we didn't even get a discount for not having almost all the foods on the menu we wanted to order. They were even out of shrimp. As a local don't think I'll ever go back. I didn't want to be rude but we really wanted to walk out of there. Not a good experience at all. Although staff is friendly, we went there to eat. Wasted $200 read more
