Planning the "expedition" for Mexican grinds in Waipio/Waipahu. When Bruddah Fran C. and Sistah Gail U give a thumbs up to a restaurant, you have to stand up and take notice. I happened to be in the Waipio area, a rarity for me, and decided to see what might be worth taking back home. I had never heard of Acapulco but was in the mood for Mexican grinds and when yelpers Fran and Gail reviews popped up, I knew this was one to try. They have indoor and outdoor dining options. Both spaces are very clean. I ordered two plates to go. Both plates came with rice and beans which were delicious. The gave a nice quantity of food. My meal of choice was the combo chili relleno and a beef enchilada with the red sauce. Both were delicious and did not get drowned out by the sauce and cheese. Excellent balance and taste. With gas prices being what they are, coming here is only going to happen when I'm in the area. But the delicious taste will make me think hard for any excuse to get to Acapulco restaurant when I'm in the mood for Mexican grub. read more

We used to go to Acapulco often but didn't get a chance to visit for several months. We stopped by on Tuesday because we were at Costco and the food and service was good as we expected. However they used to have the best Margaritas in town and I always ordered one every time we ate there. This time the drink was so terrible and sour that I only could have three sips and left the rest on the table. They must have converted to some sort of prepackaged drink to save on cost. I've been here a couple of times now and the food isn't too bad. Not the best Mexican food on the island but a good stop that's near to me. Food is overall pretty good and the portions are HUGE so you definitely get your money's worth. Both times I came, it was during off hours so it was kind of slow and the service was good. Aside from an occasional visit to Taco Bell I don't get to eat Mexican food except with Doc in San Diego, Tijuana or Arizona. Yelp friends here, Texas and beyond were posting photos of enchiladas, burritos and more with rice and beans smothered in cheese. Happy National Burrito Day! I've recently been to Acapulco Restaurant in Waipio and had a perfectly cooked chimichanga and also had a combo plate of enchilada/chili relleno. There's live music here on Tuesdays around 5 pm. They have one of the most amazing tequila selections I've seen on the island and the menu is by QR code. The food was out very quick and we were waited on by all of the staff. There's overflow seating outside and unfortunately just for the men, you need to borrow the restroom key at the bar for an outside facility. finally made it to acapulco! its been on my bookmarks for awhile since it said dogs allowed on yelp. I called to make sure and they said yes! yay! We checked in with a staff member and she sat us outside. its a little bit hot out since it's patio seating, but we're ok with it since we get to have our babies join us! menu is by QR code which is annoying tho and everything is generally really rushed, so it's not the best place to go if you want to catch up with a friend. price point is fair considering how everything is expensive nowadays and portions were huge. read more

Thinking of Mexian food and which market to get my Friday specials I decided to try Acapulco. Foodland is in the same shopping center. I got to kill two birds with one stop. My son raved about this establishment last week and we decided to go yesterday 21 May 2025. We arrived around 1600 and once we walked in, we were greeted with a friendly hello and told to choose wherever we wanted to sit. We chose the one high round table to seat two that was against the wall. Even before I sat onto the chair, there was the waitress there to give complimentary chips and salsa and asked if we wanted anything to drink. I had brought my own drink and she asked if I wanted a cup of ice and I said "yes please!" There's no menu, there's a QR code that you scan on your phone Here's what we ordered: Starters: Queso dip & Sautéd Garlic Mushrooms Plantillos: Steak and Shrimp quesadillas (note Upgrade to steak-$2.08 and shrimp $3.12) The portions were so generous and worth the price! I can't speak for the service because I always get takeout (Although from what I can tell, it's exceptional) but I had to leave a review for this restaurant. I've moved over 60 times in my life and have eaten at multiple michellin rated restaurants, and I've only left about 2 or 3 reviews for restaurants. But please, please, please believe me when I say, the food here is PERFECT. The seasoning, the quality, every bite full of flavor and culture. This is THE BEST mexican on oahu, and could hold it's own even in the mainland. Please do yourself a favor and treat yourself to the food here. If you enjoy full bursting flavor in every bite and hate bland food. Then you OWE it to yourself to try this! I orig like the food and would give 4start but gave 3 star as the customer service today was bad. They are posted as open 11am but went there 11:08 am and door was locked with No sign. A gal was at the bar and she just said "they're not open" through the locked glass door. I had to ask if there was a time changed and she said they had to pick up deliveries so today about 11:30am. I had an appointment in the area so my friend and I decided to stop for lunch. I told her to just pull in and park and then we could decide where to go since there's multiple places in the Waipio Shopping Center complex. We decided to give Acapulco a try. It's not a huge place. Five or six tables inside and four tables outside. We ended up sitting outside. They brought us a basket of chips and salsa. Salsa was tasty. We had to get the menu by scanning the QR Code at the table. It was not difficult to do. The issue was having old eyes reading a menu on a phone -- kind of sucks. But we ordered just fine. It's been so hot and humid. Someone at another table had a strawberry magarita and that looked so refreshing. I ended up ordering a virgin Pina Colada and it was really yummy and so refreshing. My friend had Carne Asada steak that came with rice and beans and she chose flour tortillas. I ordered the Burritto with shredded beef and that too came with the rice and beans. My friend loved what she ordered. The meat was tender and flavorful. She said that she would order it again. My burritto was delicious. The shredded beef was tender and well seasoned. I loved their beans. I liked the chunky texture which is so much better than having it all smushed. The rice was bit underwhelming but that was not the star on my plate. I would definitely order the burritto again. The only thing that was truly disappointing was that we forgot to order the fried ice cream. My hubby wanted to eat Mexican so decided to go go to this Mexican restaurant in Waipio gentry by foodland and bi city diner. I ordered mini cheese quesdillas and my hubby had combo plate burrito with quesdilla. I like my plate I though it was a mini it had 3 cheese quesdillas and I was full. My hubby said he's combo was good too. He ordered all beans skip the rice. Now with technology everything is with scan code maybe restaurants will be doing away with menus. I don't know. I'm sure i reviewed this place years ago, but it's asking for me to do it again so I'm for sure giving them 5 stars again! I drive all the way from the Windward side when I want Mexican food because Acapulco is the only spot on island that hits the nail on the head with authenticity. It's hard to get good Mexican food on island so you have to lower your standard, but not here. The enchiladas are bomb, my kids crush them. The burritos are fire, the carne asada is seriously best on island and why we make the drive. The drinks are tough too! Super good margarita, best I've tasted and of course the micheladas are top tier. Lastly, the servers and staff are super friendly and welcoming. Great atmosphere, plenty of space (we like sitting outside) and great value, especially when you consider other places are more expensive with low quality ingredients. First time eating here and it was a disappointment :( we got there at 11am right when they opened and we didn't know if it was self seating or we had to wait for someone to seat us so we stood there for a few minutes until someone came from the back and told us to sit anywhere (how were we suppose to know?!). They have inside and outside seating. Our waitress wasn't friendly at all and I kind of wanted to leave very soon after we sat. I looked at their menu prior to coming so we knew what we wanted but it took a while to order because she sat behind the bar was on her phone. We ordered the taco salad with chicken, quesadilla with shredded beef, burrito with carnitas, and a horchata. And they give free chips and salsa... the chips were a bit too hard and crunchy for me so I didn't eat too much of it. The only good thing was the quesadilla with shredded beef. The beef was tender and flavorful. The chicken in the taco salad was bland... tasted like boiled chicken. The carnitas in the burrito didn't taste like carnitas at all... in my opinion, it tasted like the chicken. The horchata was okay. Walked in for a late lunch on a Wednesday. It's only my second time here, the last time was years ago when they first opened. You need to download their menu using your phone and their QR code. This is slowly becoming another pet peeve. lol They have a variety of the usual Mexican dishes. I ordered the burrito plate and my friend ordered the chimichanga plate. They bring out complimentary chips and salsa. Those were just okay. The chips are pretty hearty and thick and the salsa was kinda bland. Located in the Waipio Gentry neighborhood, you can find this little Mexican restaurant in a small strip mall called the Waipio Shopping Center. I came here with my coworkers on a Thursday night, as we had a work meeting/dinner here, and I'm so glad we got to try their delicious food. Acapulco is a very small restaurant with limited seating (they have indoor & outdoor seating), so if you do come here, it's probably best to make a reservation before coming here, and to be sure that all parties are here on time, in order to get a table & be seated. I understand the restaurant's policy on this because the restaurant is pretty busy & popular, and the restaurant space is limited. The menu here is pretty extensive, but I ended ordering (2) Crab Enchiladas, which consisted of flour tortillas with cheese, crab meat, green sauce, & sour cream. My meal was served with beans & rice. We also had a few complimentary baskets of tortilla chips with salsa and shared an appetizer of Taquitos, which was fried corn tortillas with chicken, sour cream, & guacamole. What can I say about the grub? I must say Acapulco serves up generous food portions, so be ready to eat my friends! My crab enchilada was delicious, as it was loaded with crab meat. After downing my crab enchiladas, and eating the beans, I didn't even get to the rice because I was so full. Of course it didn't help that we were snackin' on the tortilla chips & salsa, and eating appetizers before having our dinner. Lol! One of the best Mexican restaurants on the island. The restaurant is cozy, but sits in a small shopping center. My party was greeted upon entry but service was slow. One of the funny things about living in Hawaii, finding restaurants that serve good Mexican food is tough. You'd think with all the ethnicities here, it would be snap but (ha ha) nope. This is a small restaurant but with an impressive menu and the food is great! I had their burrito and couldn't finish it because it was so large. The server for my visit was pretty good although we were seated outside, checked regularly to see if we needed anything. The salsa and chips were fresh and I enjoyed them. We went to eat here at 5pm no reservations we just walked in. The waitress told us we could sit anywhere. She asked what we wanted to drink and she gave us chips and salsa while we ordered and waited for our food. The food here was so amazing. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend this place if you care about food quality or cleanliness. The Mexican red rice weirdly tasted like seafood, which makes me worry about cross-contamination. If you have food allergies, be very upfront -- they don't seem sanitary at all. A small quaint little restaurant..of course its airconditioned with a few tables and chairs in an outside patio setting and the majority of seating is inside. Yay! We found a good Mexican food restaurant after searching ALL OVER THE ISLAND! I had a chicken enchilada with Verde sauce, beans, and rice. Tasty and beans had some whole beans and fluffy rice. Generous complimentary serving of chips and salsa which they quickly wrapped up the leftovers. It's worth the drive. People obviously know what's good because it was crowded with lots of takeout. My friends and I wanted to have dinner on Cinco de Mayo. Since Acapulco restaurant was nearby, we decided to try it. I was told the house margaritas were good so I ordered one with Li Hing and it was delicious. As you can see my photos, our entrees were good portions. I think we could have shared an entree. The chips with salsa were a perfect complement to my margarita. We arrived but didn't get seated until all members of our party of six were present. The disappointment was the restaurant could not set a table for six so we could dine together. One table had four. A separate table for two was provided. It was a rule apparently. Although the food was good, I gave the restaurant only three stars for not serving our party of six at one table. No reason was provided why we needed to sit apart. A friend of min recommended this place a while ago. It looked like a great place and the location is right up my alley. It's in the Waipio Shopping Center. There's seating available inside and out. Great decorations and a very comfortable vibe. Scan their QR code for the menu which offers a nice variety of Mexican dishes. I ordered the Mucho Burrito and the Bandito plate. Both were great. Flavorful and filling. I didn't even finish the burrito because it was so big. You can choose different types of meat in your dishes. Service was fast, friendly and efficient.
