Hawaiian food. Mexican food. Local favorites. Yes, please! All of it exists in this hole-in-the-wall spot surrounded by dental offices and across fron Anna Miller's. It's a gem, hidden in plain sight, and open just when you might want to bring a friend to try something new. Kehau's Kitchen popped up while I was searching for a nearby place that had lau lau on a Sunday. A few reviews in and I was certain that I knew where I was eating lunch. A few more and I knew what I would order, because why hasn't lau lau Katsu existed in my life before this exact moment? I decided to blame Yelp, as I'd not have known without that review. Turns out it's an occasional daily special, but they will make it for you if you ask. Thank you for that extra bit of customer service, it means so much! I also ordered a few street tacos and what I thought would be a reasonable portion of ahi poke. Whoops! Turns out that the poke nachos are more than enough to share with a table filled with friends, but I did my best and brought home the rest. Not to share, oh no! I was on my own that night, so it was alllll for me. I do look forward to sharing an order with someone soon. The lau lau was well sized. Not tiny but not too big to eat all at once either. Everything packed inside was juicy and the saltiness of the meat worked so well with the crunch of the katsu. I know, your brain is having a hard time thinking of crispy crunchy lau lau, but I promise it is good. The tacos were great, just a few bites each and a perfect add on to any meal, especially as they are affordable and individually priced. I already mentioned the nachos, so consider yourself warned about their massive tastiness. I'm looking forward to trying more of their menu, but know I will need multiple trips in order to enjoy both aspects. As much as I enjoyed the lau lau katsu I have a feeling that I will love the other items on the Hawaiian menu as much if not more. My love of "mixed" restaurants has existed since childhood, when I realized that my desire was to try everything. Fusion foods are great, and I adore seeing how similar dishes can live together on one international plate, but give me a restaurant that offers distinct foods from multiple cultures and I'm just as happy. I'm ok if the foods on my table have nothing in common other than their delicious natures, and I raise my fork to the restaurant owners who celebrate their multicultural backgrounds. The one thing on my stepdads list of food to try before leaving Hawaii was lau lau. Whenever I'm in the mood for lau lau I go to Young's, but they're take out only. I searched up lau lau on Yelp and low and behold Kehau's Kitchen popped up as number one! The last time I ate here was four years ago so I was stoked to come back, try their food, and take my family here. I ordered the Lau Lau Ala Carte. The lau lau was a hefty size and I was only able to eat about one third of it. The pork inside was tender, filling, and cooked perfectly! They also provided chili pepper water which paired really well with the lau lau. My stepdad got the Lau Lau Combo Plate and my Mom got the Kalua Pig and Cabbage. Everyone raved about their food and loved it. It was a real treat for all of us since we can't find good quality Hawaiian food like Kehau's Kitchen on the mainland. Service here is excellent! We were the only customers dining inside and were treated so well. The workers were extremely friendly and polite, always there in a blink of an eye to assist us, talked story with us, and constantly checked in on us to see how we were doing. It honestly didn't feel like we were dining at a restaurant but more like a gathering with friends! I'm back visiting from SanDiego and was looking for a local Hawaiian restauraunt with good food and a nice quiet ambiance. Kehau's Kitchen did not disappoint. The three of us loved it and our waitress was terrific. We had a bit of everything and it was all fantastic .. wound up taking a lot home since the portions are very generous too. We really enjoyed chatting with our server, she was all smiles and very helpful explaining all the cool stuff and the combination plates on the menu, along with a lot of interesting local history. Cozy small place with brightly colored walls and friendly staff. The nachos were enough to share for two. Spicy ahi that tasted pretty fresh and crispy wonton strips with a generous sauce drizzle. No dry chips at the bottom was a huge plus. Would def visit again- a good place to take your friends who want big portions and tasty Hawaiian or Hawaiian fusion food. Had put in an online order but got there at the time it said it would be ready only to find out that my order had been canceled becuase they did not have one of the things we ordered. So had to put in a new order while there and wait. They took my number and said they would call when the food was ready so I waited outside. After about 30 minutes, still had not received a call so went inside only for the girl working there to says she's been calling out my name for a while. Oh geez! If you are craving both Mexican and Hawaiian food, this is the place to check it out. They do not have combinated plates for both cuisine, but you can order two cuisines at this restaurant. The reason why I gave two stars was due to the overprice for a Hawaiian Plate, the Local Boy plate which cost about $25. The food wasn't up to my standard due to the small portions for lau lau, shredded kalua pork, and lomi salmon with a HUGE amount of mushy wet rice that was not edible. Interestingly, the Pulehu short ribs was very sweet, like it had a sugar-coating. Maybe the day, I went wasn't the day, but that experience wasn't the greatest. Well what can I say about this place. The food wasn't to my expectation. My husband wanted puelhu ribs to try he order it and also wanted squid luau never have then tripe stew never have so last was the poi the server said he got to check. So what kind of place is this no poi Hum... I told him three strike and your out. HE came back and said we get poi. So now my turn to order I had the cheese quesadillas plate came with mexican rice and black beans. Well when the food came out I took the 1st bite the Mexican rice was cold, the quesadilla was oily or to buttery and over cooked. And the black beans it really wasnt to my liking. The puelhu ribs tasted like teriyaki not grilled with hawn salt and pepper. Well if somebody says lets go maybe I will go back but not really in the future. We ordered the local boy and squid luau for takeout. The local boy comes with Lau Lau, short rib, kalua pork, beef stew gravy, and lomi salmon. The lau lau was my favorite item in this combo. It was a bit dry, but wrapped in leaves it was good. The short rib and kalua pork paired with the lomi salmon was also excellent. The kalua pork was a bit too dry and didn't taste all that great by itself. The beef stew gravy tasted very odd to me as it was a bit sweet. We also ordered a squid luau, which came in a green soup with small pieces of squid. The green seems to come from seaweed and had a distinct flavor, but I wasn't really a fan of this. read more

We came here for brunch and were so happy we came here! We got the #1 Kalua Pork Combo and #2 Lau Lau Combo. They were both really good, it's worth it to get the combo to try a little bit of everything! The Kalua pork with the rice was delicious and I loved the sweetness and smokiness of the pulehu chicken. This is my first time in Hawaii, and eating here was my first meal after landing. I absolutely loved this place. A friend and I shared the Pua'a to da Poke nachos and my wife had the Kalua combo. Not only was this a great meal all around, but it was an excellent way to introduce myself to Hawaiian cuisine for the first time. The owner of this place is incredibly nice and hospital, and overall just a very friendly gal who loves to talk and share her experiences. We got to visit Kehau's Kitchen when we were on a family vacation to Oahu. The shop is small and on the bottom floor of a two story business center, on the street side. We ordered ribs and flautas. The taste of the food was amazing...their seasoned rice is a must! Our kidlet gave 2 thumbs up for the food! My husband asked what their secret recipe was for the ribs, and Ty (awesome guy at the counter) pulled out a sack of bbq seasoning from behind the counter. So, long story short, we will be challenging my brother to a rib off soon. Haha secret weapon!! They give you a whole pitcher of ice water at the table...which is SO appreciated! Saw the reviews on Yelp and decided to try it based on this alone. It is in a strip mall (with plenty of other dining choices). Very local, polite staff and the food was amazing. I had the pork slider buns (3 minis) with rice and potato salad. Hubby had the beef stew, came with rice, two chicken thighs and haupia. 16y.o. Ordered the smoked meat with rice and haupia. So, I do NOT like meat...oh my goodness! The meat in EVERY dish was amazing!!!! So tender! The flavors were crazy amazing! The haupia had a great flavor and consistency. Would I recommend this place? So I said beef stew and double order chicken long rice. Lastly for my coworker she wanted the Lau Lau combo with side order rice and kalua pig. Picked up the food went back to the office to eat. Opened up the container for my chicken long rice. Was given way to much noodles and lack of chicken, ginger and even the soup with green onions. Beef stew was okay. My coworkers food she said it was kinda dry and lack of seasoning. She did not receive her poi that was supposed to be given with her combo. Would I come here again? Maybe not after this bad experience. I wish them the best. I also wish they asked if we needed utensils before I left as well. I was debating on writing this review after I move from my nearby apartment, because I'm selfish and I want to keep all the tacos to myself. However, I couldn't wait to talk about the food here. My family came across this restaurant here on Yelp, and despite the description saying it is Hawaiian food, there is also Mexican food. We visited on a quiet Tuesday night, so we took our pick at one of the 5 empty tables. The waitress was extremely nice. She let us know that it was Taco Tuesday and the special was $1.50 each street taco. The choices were chicken, pork, or chorizo. We don't eat pork, so it was fish and chicken for us (Fish was normal price $3.00). I started with 2 fish and 2 chicken. They were pretty stuffed with meat, with a good amount of onions and cilantro. The meat was flavor overload. My taste buds screamed for more. Typically on these types of deals everything else is ala cart, but we were happy it also came with Salsa and Sour Cream. It was a tasty green salsa with a kick. While the tacos were a decent size I had to eat 2 more since I missed out on lunch. I look forward to coming back and trying all the other foods. Stopped at this food place and saw kalua combo. I asked the lady if they can add cabbage and replied yes. On that menu it also also includes "pipikaula" when I got my order and since I was rushing to get to work, I opened the plate and didn't have cabbage and "pipikaula" was a bbqued chicken. I called and the same lady who I spoked too answered and I complained to her that I wanted cabbage in my kalua pork and stated that they don't have cabbage but the kalua pork with cabbage has it--it didn't make sense and why she couldn't just put cabbage if I asked to put cabbage in my kalua pork. And as for the pipikaula, it's not even pipikaula, it's a bbq chicken and I know what the difference is. Btw this place is runned by a Mexican lady cuz she had the accent. After a lovely hike with my Elite Bestie Rebecca T, we combine our Yelp elite brains and decided to check out Kehau's Kitchen. Five stars for their chicken long rice. I loved their chicken long rice. It was so light, I love how the chicken just melt not tough at all, and the additional carrots was a nice touch. Also, the soup was so hot when I came out to make each sip was so satisfying. It was the most satisfying chicken long rice I had on island so far - others are not hot enough, a bit too much salt, but this felt like medicine for my soul. We also ordered two other combo platter. The short ribs and chicken were so flavorful and I love how it came with haupia to end the meal on sweet note. We also saw another table with these amazing looking poke nachos. The portions was so generous, I've never seen a plate of nachos that big. It looked like a school volcano project. Would definitely look into the non Hawaiian menu selections next time. I really wanted to like this place bc I heard great things about it. My coworker and I wanted something good for lunch so we placed an order over the phone. I ordered the enchiladas and she got the street tacos, both with steak. Our total was $52 so I was expecting something mind blowing. They didn't have beans so we had to get it with all rice :/ and they were also out of horchata:( My enchiladas were SO spicy, I literally had to take a break in between every bite and I do like some spice but it was pretty intense. I scraped the sauce off and it was still so spicy, not sure if the steak was also cooked in it. The rice was bland and kind of dry. My coworker said hers was good. I ordered on the phone and picked it up rather quickly, there was actually no one eating inside during lunch time which was shocking.
