We've had our bed now for almost 6 years and, honestly, we've been thinking we've had it for nearly 10 years. The bed frame now creaks even with the slightest movement. Parts of the bed frame are now bent. There are large dents/drops in the mattress, but, apparently, not deep enough to allow us to use the warranty to fix/replace. I think Keetsa may be the first to make a bed-in-a-box trendy, however, that hype might soon fade once the first big batch of owners realize how long the product actually lasts. read more

Shortly after posting my review on Yelp, I was contacted by the manager of the Berkeley Keetsa store. He stated that he had previously tried to contact me and let me know that I was eligible for an exchange. He apologized for the mix up and encouraged me to come into the store to try out the new mattress in order to make sure it was what I was looking for. I ordered another tea leaf supreme and it was delivered the next day. To be fair, the follow up customer service provided was excellent. Keetsa took very good care of my problem. I'm giving one star here because of my huge disappointment with the King Tea Leaf Supreme my husband I bought May 2010. As others have mentioned, the initial stink that the mattress gives off for the first three to four weeks is down right nasty, but that's not the reason for the low rating. The problem is the quality of the mattress. My husband rolled over last night and muttered, "I hate this mattress!" I thought it was just me that was uncomfortable but I didn't want to complain because we just bought it two years ago. I said, "really, me too!" It was almost comical if I hadn't been so angry because I think a $1,900 mattress should last longer than that! Yes, at first it was good, but slowly over time permanent compression spots have formed where my husband and I each sleep leaving a hump in the middle of the bed. I know the compressions are giving me horrible neck and hip pain because when my husband's away on a trip I sleep on the hump and it's a different night's rest. My husband now has back pain. In case anyone is wondering, no, we are not abnormally large people. We are of normal size. The bed is just not as durable as we hoped. We rotated the bed at the advice of the salesperson but that did nothing since it basically means your sleeping in your partner's spot. No change there. The warranty policy states that compression must be at least 1- 1/2 inches deep for a claim. I measured today and we're at 1-inch. It's amazing at how a 1-inch differential can cause so much discomfort. So our option is to continue to suffer with neck, back and hip pain until another 1/2 gives in or we can throw out our expensive mattress and go back to Sealy. Keetsa's marketing advertises their commitment to minimal impact on your wallet as well as the environment. Really? My wallet's sadly impacted by needing to purchase another mattress so soon, and as far as the environment - I'm now scrapping this huge eco-friendly mattress to the landfill. How is that good for the environment? Plus, I'm pretty sure the initial noxious stink was not only a pollutant to the environment but also my lungs. If you're looking for a spare bed that won't get much use AND you've got great ventilation in your home, maybe Keetsa is your answer. But if you need a long lasting, quality mattress that won't sag, keep looking. read more

At first, I loved our new Keetsa Pillow Plus mattress. It was nice and firm and for the first time I was sleeping well after suffering nightly back pain with our old Tempurpedic mattress. As others have described at length, the sales guys are great, and the company is very eco-conscious with its business model. I would absolutely rate the company and buying experience as 5-stars. Unfortunately, after a couple months, our mattress has softened up so much that the back pain and sleepless nights have returned. For a while, I was able to sleep on the edge of the bed, but now the only comfortable spot is in the center after my wife has gotten up in the mornings. Otherwise, I've resorted to sleeping to a memory foam pad on the floor for relief. Mattresses seem to be a very personal experience, so maybe it'll work for you. But unfortunately for me the mattress itself was 5-stars at first, declining to maybe 2 stars today. Alas, my quest for the perfect mattress continues. read more

We were able to find a mattress we seriously considered buying. However, we were scared away by their (non)warranty policy. It is absolutely ridiculous to think that someone will continue to sleep on a defective mattress until it reaches a depth of 1.5 INCHES. The recycling fee was outrageous and should be included in the upfront cost, imo- even if it makes the initial cost higher. Next time we're in the market for a mattress we'll check back in hopes that these policies have been changed. read more

If you've read my other reviews, you'll note I recently broke my back. Yuck. Which means we had to get rid of the soft, squishy double pillow top Sealy mattress and go for the memory foam. We already had one keetsa guest bed, which has been great - and for our Sealy we had bought the keetsa frame because we liked it so much. Well, we got treated like royalty when we went back in a year later and told them the story. Robert was the name of the guy who helped us, and he pulled so many strings to ensure we got the mattress we wanted, delivered that night by him personally, at a discount, and swapped out the other frame we had bought because we were switching from a cal king to a king. I'm writing this over 2 years after buying my Keetsa mattress. I'm not sure why I didn't write a review back then but I can tell you that I love my Keetsa mattress even more now than I did when I bought it. It has worn extremely well. I can still rave about the entire experience ... the customer service was outstanding and, because the mattress comes compressed in a box, I was able to throw it in my car and take it home without dealing at all with delivery times. My wife and I just bought a Keetsa mattress today (the Tea Leaf Supreme) from Keetsa's newest location on University in Berkeley. Overall a very pleasant experience. Joe (the owner of the business I think) was our sales guy and did a great job of explaining all the ins and outs of the manufacturing process and handled our questions honestly and directly. And we'd done our research, so we had LOTS of questions :) Why We Bought: Initially, we wanted something 100% organic and completely synthetics-free. We were almost certainly buying a natural latex-based mattress with all sorts of lamb's wool and organic cotton etc. from a place specializing in natural mattresses, but that's going to run you $3000 or more. However, once we tried Keetsa's top-of-the-line memory foam mattress, we were sold. It's much more eco-friendly than the other memory foam manufacturers (tempurpedic etc.) but we definitely had to compromise our environmental ideals a bit for comfort. Plus Points: - A nice, relaxed atmosphere in the showroom. Not much "high pressure" selling going on. - A limited choice of models. This is really a good thing in our opinion - many of the "big guys" (yer Sealys and Sertas) have dozens and dozens of models - many of which are almost identical, making it really hard to choose between them. - The model we chose was honestly the most comfortable mattress I've tried.It even changed my wife's mind about memory foam, she being initially very skeptical. - Price - at Keetsa we paid the same for a mattress plus metal frame as we would have paid for just the mattress from several other places we looked at. - They're the ONLY place we found where you can actually take the mattress home with you when you buy it. They have a really innovative packaging system which means you can fit a King size mattress in the back of a Mini (yes, really: we took our new mattress home in a Mini!) Minus Points: Keetsa are a bit guilty of "greenwashing" (touting how eco-friendly they are when they could do better), so one star docked for these points: - Their mattresses are made in China (and shipped to US) - bit of a large carbon footprint there. But they do squash them up, so I guess they can ship more efficiently. Still, when is their first US plant going to open? - If you're buying a mattress with memory foam, you're buying a petroleum-based product. And they definitely don't advertise that fact very clearly. - They use a substantial amount of polyester in the mattress covers (blended with bamboo) - why not use 100% organic cotton? Still, it's a big improvement on most of what else is out there (and Joe said they were "working on it"!). read more

Happy new year to me, my back, my joints, and the environment! We just bought a Keetsa Cloud -- their firmest mattress, a foam one comparable to an iComfort -- and I'm loving it so far. Though my five-star sleep is probably also due to other new bed stuff (linens and frame), I give plenty of credit to the mattress. Our sleep consultant was knowledgeable *and* straightforward, not at all like the used-car salesmen type I found at other mattress stores. We discussed sleeping styles, and he assured us that a pillow-top layer could help IF us side-sleepers needed it. Even if we buy the pillow-top in a month or two, the mattress would still be hundreds cheaper than its analogues elsewhere. 12-year warranty, though it should last up to 15; that's longer than some cars. Speaking of cars, you can take a queen mattress home in a regular sedan! The packaging is insane. So, five stars for experience (from walking into the store to sleeping on it the first night), eco-consciousness, price, and quality. Though time will tell, I'm confident the quality will hold up for years to come. read more

I can't say enough about this place. And I'll add to Robert's praises. He's very good at customer service and is very knowledgeable about the products. I went to check out the mattresses after seeing Keetsa on "Bay Area Bargains." It was a few months ago. Robert greeted me as soon as I came in the store in a friendly and non-pushy way. I explained I was there just to look into the mattresses and wouldn't be buying that day. He encouraged me to check out the mattresses and come back to choose when I felt I had made my decision. He really avoided any pressured sales tactics. He was very laid back. I've never experienced this when shopping for beds before. Other places are usually all about the sale and haggling. Not this place. The price is the price. Nothing goes on sale so you don't have to worry about buying and then driving by later to regret that you hadn't waited because what you bought is selling at a lower price now. I went in thinking I'd like the Keetsa Pillow Plus. I'm a side sleeper and I explained this to Robert and he suggested that I also try the Keetsa Plus too (the least expensive mattress). He brought out a contour pillow and suggested that I really spend some time laying down on each mattress I was trying. I really liked the Pillow Plus. It gave in all the right places. Then I tried the Keetsa Plus. I liked it. It was very comfortable but at that point I really liked the Keetsa Pillow Plus better. Then Robert suggested I try the Keetsa Tea Leaf Classic. I was reluctant because it was just outside what I was trying to spend and I wasn't sure it would be worth the extra cost above the Pillow Plus. I simply fell in love. I was hooked. I knew it. He knew it. He showed me an older model of the Tea Leaf Classic that was selling for less because it was on older model. On older models they can't offer the same guarantees because they've been compressed longer than the newer mattresses. It made this mattress cost about what a Pillow Plus would have costed. I decided to wait and save up for a new queen size Tea Leaf Classic. Robert wrote up price quotes for all four mattresses I was considering and I left preparing to save for my new bed. I was sleeping on a futon mattress on the floor (high end) with a memory foam topper and it was just getting old and giving me pain (10 years old). Finally, after a month or so (I got my tax refund and it was bigger than I thought it would be) I called Robert to ask about how I would recycle my old futon mattress because Waste Management wouldn't take my mattress because in Oakland when you live in an apartment building they require the landlord to spend over a thousand dollars to rent a large dumpster bin in order to take a mattress. Well, needless to say, the landlord refused to do this. Robert suggested that I look into a company that his store works with who delivers their mattress and removes and recycles the old mattress for a very good price. I was going to go to the store to make the order, but since I knew what I wanted Robert suggested that I could order over the phone and pay over the phone. Also I could get a Saturday delivery day (I think I ordered on a Thursday). Because I mentioned "Bay Area Bargains" I got a free contour pillow and pillow cases for it. So I chose the queen size Tea Leaf Classic, a mattress cover, and a queen size metal bed frame and set up delivery. That Saturday, I was ready for the delivery. The delivery guy was very friendly. Unfortunately I didn't know that he wouldn't take the memory foam mattress topper with the futon mattress. He expected to take not just the mattress, but also a frame. I had no frame. He told me that even though I didn't have a frame, he would charge extra to take the mattress topper. I was mad because it made no sense to me. Also he forgot to load the mattress cover onto the truck when loading the order onto his truck at the store. So, he called Robert. He explained what was happening to Robert and handed me his phone. Robert told me that he was going to take the mattress topper and that Robert would deduct the cost of the queen size mattress cover from my order. I offered to pick up the mattress cover up later on that day since I was going out and I'd be by the store later. That made shipping free, basically. All went well after that. The delivery man set up the frame (super easy) and liberated the Tea Leaf Classic from it's box. You just have to have the experience of watching a mattress emerge from the box compressed and then liberated from the packaging. The mattess puffs up like a marshmallow. It does take three days for the mattress to fully expand. I picked up my mattress cover at the store later and Robert adjusted my bill downward accordingly. I was happy. I've passed my first 30 days. And my bed is the most comfortable bed I've ever had. It was already the most comfortable bed I had ever had the first night I slept on it. After three days, I was in heaven. read more

Keetsa mattress emits a noxious odor that i was told would diminish quickly, but it did not. So, I returned the mattress under the 90 day sleep trial and was surprised to find that my refund was less than the original cost due to a 10% return fee that I was not informed about when I purchased the mattress. I wish I would have read the Yelp reviews noting other misleading tactics used by the Berkeley store reps before I purchased the Keetsa. read more

I'm finally writing this review after having our Tea Leaf Dream mattress for over 2 years. We could not be happier with our purchase! We often say it is one of the best purchases we have ever made! I cannot put a price on a good night sleep! I am a person that sleeps in all positions and no matter which one I am most comfortable! The bed is just so comfortable that I have trouble making it to work on time..sigh! The frame is ok but it is creaking a bit after 2 years. We might just need to tighten the screws up a bit. I originally heard about Keetsa way back when they were only in SOMA and bought a mattress from them. I have a review about that store, and the short story is that the experience was positive enough that when I decided I needed a new pillow I was down to go get one from them as well. I was checking Yelp to get the address again and was surprised to find that they had a store in Berkeley now, so I drove on over. I showed up about 2 minutes before closing and proceed to spend like 20 minutes trying out the same three pillows and waffling over which I liked best. Joe was there (he was at the SOMA one the day I got my mattress) and was super helpful and ok with me flipping through pillows while he was supposed to be going home. I ended up with a "Down alternative pillow" which is really soft and pretty similar to my old, but memory-foamy. There-in lies the rub. I replaced the previous pillows because they were too soft, and the down alternative one wasn't doing it for me. I was pretty bummed because they cost a good chunk of change and Joe had actually recommended against me getting that one (my shoulders are too broad for it, so on my side it doesn't support my head). I was trying to figure out what kind of review to give, because the product wasn't doing it for me and I wasn't sure if it was my fault or not, but the experience was pretty good. During my waffling I got a yelp message from Joe thanking me for my review of the SOMA store, and I told him about my waffling, and he said I could come back in and get a different one! Joe wasn't there when I went in, but Michelle (who has pretty awesome hair) made it totally painless and I walked out of there with something firmer. Two night later I'm liking this much more, and I'm glad I went back to them. read more

I researched online everything there is to know about mattresses and came to the conclusion I needed a memory foam mattress, knowing that the tempurpedic retains heat and would cause me to sweat at night, I decided that keetsa's version the " tea leaf supreme " which is ventilated would be the right choice for me. I just received my Keetsa a couple of days ago. It was a very easy buy in the sense that they fedex it and that it comes in a pretty easy moveable box (with wheels!). I've only slept on it one night so far so this rating may go up or down but I thought I would give it the benefit of the doubt. The only thing I would say is that it does smell strongly of tea, oils, etc. I somewhat sensitive to smells and was warned about this but was hoping that my sheets would block the smell. This is not the case. If you are somewhat sensitive to smells as well, it sounds like the best option is to have it open in the warehouse for a bit (or to keep your old mattress and sleep on it for the first week). I will say though that I don't feel like it's making my apartment smell (and I live in a tiny studio) and that I'm glad that it's, at the very least, not toxic. read more

We bought a Keetsa about 10 days ago, and get happier with it each day. Joe at the Berkeley showroom was great - rather than upselling, after talking with us he actually suggested we might be happiest with their least expensive mattress, because of our sleep habits. We spent about 45 minutes trying out the different models, and decided he was right. He did suggest we get the cleaning warranty, and because we'd already been prepared to spend more and it sounded like a good idea at a low price, we added that on. But no pressure, he just mentioned that it was available and what it did. He also said there was no need to buy their metal frame if we already had a frame and old boxspring. Sweet. Loaded the thing in the car, easily got it up the stairs and set up. No smell that others have talked about (and we tried to find it, too). We did find the mattress was too hard for the first couple of hours, but by bedtime it was... ...sublime. We LOVE this mattress. Love it. I had been sleeping on the guest bed (an IKEA mattress) because our Sealy was sagging and I had terrible back pain when I woke up. Things were much better after one night on the Keetsa, and my back has continued to improve. Not only is it much better than a sagging Sealy, it's much better than the new IKEA (I took a nap on that one yesterday, and immediately noticed the difference). I will leave it to the Keetsa folks themselves to tell you WHY it's better. To me, it just is. Firmer (while still cushiony...not rock hard), no movement for me at all when my bedmate moves or gets up, and nothing hurts when I get up in the morning. I went to the store three times. First, as a scout for myself and my husband; second time for my husband to try the mattress (just before closing, and they were totally cool about it); and the third time to make the purchase. Each time the guys there were low pressure, helpful and didn't seem to work on commission (although they do). The mattress is damn comfy and didn't smell a bit. I don't think I've slept longer than three hours at a stretch for the last four years due to various health issues coupled with a bed that was over ten years old and had never been cozy in the first place. I'd tried memory foam toppers, boards between box spring and mattress and a myriad of other highly theatrical things to get it into cozy shape, but no dice. Finally decided it might be worth going into debt to feel like I'd slept...or at least to feel I'd laid there awake all night comfortably. Went to all the normal Sleep Train type places, and was repeated drawn to the Tempurpedic, but on a teacher salary, it was out of the question. There's going into debt, and then there's GOING into debt. While researching places on line, I came across a YouTube on Keetsa where some very good looking dude was installing a mattress into a kid's room. Not sure, HGTV? Who knows. It made me curious enough to go on to the Keetsa sight to scope them out, and then on in to Berkeley to investigate. Marchus was the salesperson who greeted me, and he was great-no pushiness, and very informative. He let me fritter and be unsure, which was something other stores had not been willing to do. I asked about financing, which they do have. Ok, so problem one out of the way. I spent about half an hour and settled on the Tea Leaf Supreme with a plush memory foam topper to go on as well. Picked up the extended warranty which included two pilows with covers, and a mattress protector. They have a smashing warranty which put my mind at ease about long term disintegration and financing. I told Marchus I hadn't taken out a sizeable loan for anything in a long while. I was quite nervous about it all, but I keep telling myself it's an investment in my health. I left with it in the car, got it home, and did the switcheroo of old mattress. It IS heavy. It's a bear for one person to move and get in place, so have someone help if you purchase one. I did notice a scent, but it wasn't horrible. I don't have the topper yet as they were sold out. It's to be shipped out a bit later this week. The first night's sleep was not as fab-o as I'd hoped, but I hear it takes a bit for it to come to its full glory....and again, I've got other things going on that keep me wide awake. I will say, I seemed to toss and turn less. It didn't sleep warm like I'd thought it would, which is a plus. All in all, I think I'll be happy with the purchase, although one of my pillows was a mistake. I thought I'd be happy with it, but it put a crick in my neck. Hopefully, the investment will be a good one for me. If you are interested in memory foam or Temperpedic's line, I'd certainly look at Keetsa for comfort, service, ease of transaction, and general green-ness. read more

Purchased the Tea Leaf Supreme mattress about a month ago and am happy with the purchase so far. The mattress is firmer than the one on display in the store, so I'm hoping it will soften over time with use. The initial smell of the memory foam is pretty subtle and seems to lessen each day, so I don't consider it an issue. As far as the sales goes, they were nice for the most part, but I wouldn't say that they were superstars. I actually found that I was more knowledgeable about mattresses from the research I did prior to going to the store than they were. Jonathan was helping us specifically, and he had to look up the mattress thickness as well as the prices for the mattress toppers. I don't really consider this a problem, but I wouldn't rate them 5 stars. They were nice and not overly pushy. It has now been about 14 months that my partner & I have been sleeping on an amazing mattress that we both love. We opted for the Full size Keetsa Plus because we were living in a tiny place at the time & had little room/money to spare. This mattress is reasonably priced for what you get. We couldn't be happier about choosing it, it hasn't sagged or warped in any way thus far & we both wake up with zero back pain and feelin like we actually had a hardcore sleep. I woke up this morning feeling fabulous, which is impressive because I can't sleep now that my roommate got a little kitten who tries to scratch at my face while I sleep. The point is, the Keetsa mattress that I got (sold to me by the friendly all-smiles very knowledgeable Alison) is so damn comfortable that I can sleep despite the kitten. Best shopping spree I decided to go on while 8 months pregnant! Great service by Chuck. Not pushy, but knowledgeable, lets you make your own decision instead of trying to sell his product. The mattress and pillows are super comfortable, especially after switching from Ikea old bed. No plastic smell, unlike Tempurpedic mattresses that will cost you double. I can still smell the tea scent after a month. Old mattress pickup service available, too! (We were promised the mattress is going to be recycled, not just dumped into landfill). We found Keetsa after experiencing severe back pain from our sunken old Sealy mattress. We were looking for places in the area and Keetsa had good reviews. Prior to knowing about their products, we had driven by the place, scoffing and saying, "yeah 'eco-friendly' means they can get away with charging an arm and a leg!" Our scoffing was presumptuous indeed. We walked in and were warmly greeted. As we tried out each mattress, the salesman chatted with us and gave us the rundown on all the amazing things about each mattress. After thorough consideration and trial, we wheeled out the box containing our lovely green-tea smelling Keetsa "Cloud". We've been sleeping on it for about a week and absolutely love it! Just bought their top of the line mattress tea leaf dream a month ago. We have been very impressed. I am s stomach sleeper and I have a great night sleep. Very little movement when I get in and out of bed. Eco friendly is great too. read more
