So instead, I checked local store availability and saw that the Wheeling location had 3 boxes in stock. I placed an order for in-store pickup, and my husband picked them up today (7/3/25). It should have been a simple and straightforward transaction, but unfortunately, 2 out of the 3 boxes turned out to be expired. One had an expiration date of 6/30/25, and the other 5/31/25. Only one box had a reasonable expiration date of 10/31/25. For comparison, the box I've been enjoying at home, that was purchased two months ago from a different retailer, does not expire until 1/31/26. Walgreens really needs to implement better quality control regarding expiration dates. Selling expired products, especially food items like chocolates, is unacceptable. And since the Wheeling store only had these 3 boxes at the time of my order, I now have to make a trip to another Walgreens to return or exchange the expired ones.

Out of all the Walgreens stores that I have been to, the one in Deerfield Square stands out as the…read moremost pleasant one to shop at. This Walgreens is large and airy, bright and clean, with a more upscale feel to it. It is fully stocked. One big advantage of this store is that it is opened 24 hours a day! Another factor that impresses me most is the store's management. It has not just one, but two very nice and helpful managers. It had happened that I had clipped a $9 digital coupon online. Its requirement was to spend $40(or $30?) in a Walgreens store and I would get the coupon when I checked out. However, it didn't happen even after I spent the required amount. Long story short, the female manager was very nice and helpful, she apologized and manually added a $10 credit to my Walgreens loyalty account. When I went home and checked my Walgreens account online, I didn't see the added $10. So, the next time I went to this Walgreens, I talked to another manager, Sergio. The female manager had gone for the day. Sergio was very patient, kind, and helpful. To our surprise, he found that I actually had two accounts with Walgreens (apparently a mixed-up done by the pharmacy of another Walgreens), one with a slightly different name. The female manager had somehow credited the account that I did not know I had, and therefore did not actively use. Sergio gave me the phone number of their tech support department that could help me eliminate one of the accounts (that I will call, I promise). When I was checking out, he rushed over to make sure that I could apply my $10 credit without any problems. Kudos to Sergio! Now, as I know that I have two accounts, I am mindful to tell the cashier which one to use, until I can get one eliminated, or get them combined.

CVS recommended Keefer's because they were unable to create the compound topical anesthetic I…read moreneeded for a procedure. I called and spoke with Greg(one of the pharmacists) and he was so kind over the phone. I had to rush the order because the first pharmacists and CVS did not tell me about Keefer's until I spoke with another pharmacist that told me about them right away. Greg understood the urgency and got on it right away. I was able to pick up the Rx the following day. I have a high deductible so Greg suggested I pay out of pocket with no insurance affiliation and it ended up significantly cheaper - by 50%. This was acceptable because I would just submit it for reimbursement to my HSA(Health Savings Account) similar to FSA(Flexible Spending). Apparently claiming one does not have insurance yields a cheaper cost - amazing how much less uninsured individuals are charged. This was definitely old school pharmacy but I liked it. My Mom was a pharmacist and it brought memories from my childhood. I walked around just looking at everything in the store. They have unique items. The prices were slightly higher than say Walmart or CVS/Walgreens so maybe that's why it seems the items don't appear too move as much - at least it appears that way (when items don't look like they've moved out of their spot on the shelf) but I could be wrong. I'm so bummed that I lived in Mount Prospect and Arlington Heights for ten years that I never walked into this place. I will DEFINITELY be coming back here again. If they provide the same cost for my other Rx then I will be giving them more of my business.

Incompetence, Zero Compassion, and a Complete Lack of Professionalism…read more I requested my prescription on a Monday morning with a promised pickup later that day. I called around noon and was told by Tal it was "on track" for the afternoon. That afternoon came and went with no update. When I called again, Apexa informed me they only had 5 pills in stock but could order the rest. I picked up the 5 pills later that night, worried about getting the remainder before leaving town Friday. Tuesday, my doctor increased the dosage. The Walgreens app showed the medication would arrive Wednesday. By Wednesday afternoon, still no update--so I called again. Michael told me they could not fill the rest because I "had enough until Friday," contradicting everything I'd been told. When I expressed urgency, he raised his voice, saying, "You can pay cash for it if you don't want it to go through insurance. Are you going to pay for that?!" I agreed immediately and asked the price--$23.17. He put me on hold, and then Nikki picked up, claiming it couldn't be sold for cash because that would be "insurance fraud." I pressed for answers about the repeated misinformation. Nikki admitted the medication had arrived earlier that day but still refused to fill it because "the system" showed I was "covered" until Friday. Then, in the most unprofessional and insensitive comment I've ever experienced from a healthcare provider, Nikki said: "No wonder why your doctor increased your medication, you clearly need it." This was said to a patient who was already in tears and struggling with anxiety. When Friday came, I called again--only for Tal to tell me they had not actually received the medication like they were supposed to. She said she would start calling local stores to see if they had it in stock. Why wasn't that done on Wednesday when it was clear I was upset and leaving town? This pharmacy repeatedly gave me conflicting information, failed to take proactive steps to help, and treated me with shocking insensitivity. Handling people's medications is a responsibility that requires accuracy, consistency, and compassion--this Walgreens location displayed none of the above. Walgreens, if your staff cannot manage basic communication or show empathy to sick and vulnerable customers, they should NOT be working in healthcare.

Tina J. acknowledged the urgency, took down all the details, and assured us she would immediately contact the hospital pharmacy (Advocate Health, Park Ridge) to have the prescription transferred electronically. She stated the process would take about five minutes and that she would follow up once completed. None of that happened. There was no documentation, no communication to staff, and no follow-up. Calls to the pharmacy went unanswered. When I arrived the next day (04/10) expecting to pick up the medication, I was told nothing had been initiated. Because of this failure, I had to urgently find a 24-hour pharmacy to ensure my medically fragile infant would not go without essential medication over the weekend. This is not just poor customer service--this is a breakdown in basic pharmacy responsibility and accountability. When a pharmacist is clearly informed that a medication is critical for a vulnerable patient and commits to immediate action, failure to follow through puts patient health at risk. It is concerning to think about how many times this may have happened to others without being addressed. I hope CVS Health takes this seriously and implements stronger accountability measures to prevent situations like this from happening again.

I've always had great experiences at Walgreens pharmacies. It hasn't been until I frequently need to get things like as of late that I realize how much I took that for granted. I would call in for a prescription and they'll give me a time to come pick it up or tell me a day to pick it up, and I'll come in and have to wait 30 minutes or they'll tell me they don't have it in stock. Despite sending me the message that the prescription is ready for pick up. There is one tech in particular that I've heard talk rudely about customers when asked a question. The ones who are up front talking to guests are always super sweet. But there is that one tech that whenever we ask a question he wigs on the person asking the question. It's a bit disheartening to the point where I don't want to ask questions but naturally have to at times. If you are in a need for a refill, make sure you call days in advance and still come in with time to make sure they fill your prescription.
