I walked into K C Art today to see if I could get a picture framed in 2 days for Fathers Day. Jimmy one of the framing employees greeted me like an old friend. With little optimism, I told him what I needed. He called the head framer, Merrick who said it could get done. They knew which frame and mat would work. While they were getting pieces ready we looked for cards and gifts and found Just the right things. About 10 minutes ago I got a text saying the frame was done. A total of 2 hours to get my rush job done. Bravo!! They are the best!!! read more

This review is specifically about the framing shop. I had a few bigger pieces framed with museum glass so I thought it would be super pricey but in the end it was quite reasonable and the quality was excellent - well framed, well packed. Making decisions on frame choice, mat choice, colors, etc is difficult and they were very patient putting up with my indecisiveness. It helps to have a bit of guidance on these things, and these guys helped me nail it. Very happy. Hoping to frame a few more pieces there in the spring. read more

KC Arts was recommended to us by an artist friend because we had purchased our first original art and wanted a framer that was extremely skilled in order to protect and showcase the work, but were also on a budget as we'd saved a long time merely to afford the photographs we purchased! All the employees were extremely knowledgeable about the process, and took a great deal of time with us deciding on all the details and showing us many options, even though it was close to closing time. They gave our art the literal "white glove" treatment, and when I read to them the list of requests the photographer made about his work, they nodded and said the majority would be standard processes for them, but were also appreciative of the artist's clarification of one or two particular preferences. Their frames are handmade on site, and the take extra care with the joints, using all American wood sourced from Vermont. They also gave us a 20% discount because we framed 2 pieces at once. The final product looks gorgeous, and they also took the time to go through their specific recommendations about hanging it with us, to give all the hardware we needed and then to procure extra pieces for us that they thought we might need based on the specifics of our home that I described. One of the employees even offered to come by our home to check the hanging if we were having any trouble DIY-ing it. We felt the product was extremely nice and the prices reasonable - prices were comparable to prices on previous jobs with another local framer whose work was not very good - and the service was EXCELLENT. I'd highly recommend their framing services, especially for a piece you want handled with care and done right. Will definitely return for all our framing needs. read more

How does this art store disappoint me? Let me count the ways: 1) By having their framing staff routinely leave before the stated closing time. Twice, I went in there in their last hour of business -- just as many people do on their way home from work -- and was told that there was no one in the framing department to help me. 2) By giving me inaccurate estimates. I went in this place looking to have some custom framing and canvas stretching done. Finally was able to talk to someone in framing and was given estimates based on the size of the work. Then I came back with the pieces and someone else in the same department told me the cost would be about 50% higher. 3) By not having my work done on time and not calling me about it. Despite 1) and 2), I still gave these guys some custom framing work for some reason. I should have my head examined, because they said it would take a few days. I went in 10 days later (after they never called) and they said they had somehow misplaced my order and that they'd get to it right away. It was done the next day. That's the long story long. The staff isn't friendly, the store is cramped, and the only reason they get the second star is because they do have a pretty good selection of art supplies. This place may be good for art supplies, but you've been warned about the framing department. They get the bozack. read more

Worst art store in Brooklyn. Unless you are a park slope/Carroll garden mom shopping for some crafts you should avoid this place. Everything is expensive and the frame shop is a joke. I went to ask a price on just a frame. When I first went, I was quoted 100 bucks, totally great price for a sale item. Then when I spent the time to lug my print and glass over there all of the sudden it was 350... AT 50% OFF!!? You're telling me that you would normally charge 700 bucks for JUST a frame on something not over sized? No mat or glass? One of the girls was a moron and I'll never find out which one. This store fulfilled all my expectations! I had my college diploma and a modeling photo framed and they came out perfect! The detail and quality of these frames are unlike anything I've ever seen before. Ralph was so helpful and all the other employees were very accommodating as well. This place is the worst. Super, super overpriced -- especially the framing. The framing is also rushed, there's not enough room to really go through your options, the selection is tiny, and the staff doesn't seem that interested in making customers happy. I've been to fancy places in Manhattan who frame for less and do a much better job. For a "mom and pop" neighborhood store, the employees should really be friendlier. The best framing situation I've ever experienced is just a few blocks away on Atlantic at Make A Frame -- really artistic, professional, chill environment, loads of options, clear communication, and beautiful work. read more

The employees seemed like they were really micromanaged by their boss. I've been in several times where it's been nice, the employees are smiling and having fun while still being very attentive, but also times when they looked drained and unhappy. The mood swings of the store is concerning. Like, once I heard him threaten to fire employees to the other customers when a mistake was made. I will slightly disagree with Tom C. My boyfriend had some stuff framed here and it was a bit pricey but they did a fine job. I think one of the pieces may've been late though. I didn't experience them leaving earlier than stated, though that does INFURIATE me (I'm looking at YOU Stanton Tailors!!!!) But, as far as having a little art shop in the area, you could do worse (like not having one at all). They don't have a ton of selection, and most everything IS overpriced -- it's part gift/ card/ stationary & wrap and fancy pens shop too and priced accordingly like a boutique -- but if you need simple things like glue guns or little paints or canvas, it should be fine. I think they'll also try to order items for you if they don't have them. Of course, you easily do that yourself... on the "Internet." But like I said -- not a bad service to have around. read more

I've gone to this place for a number of framing jobs for artwork. They do a gorgeous job. They help you pick the perfect frame from a good selection, offering expert advice; they complete the work in a timely manner, and the finished project always looks top-notch. Even after I moved to another neighborhood in Brooklyn, I still make the extra trip to K.C. Arts if I need something framed. Recently I went in to have a painting transferred to a smaller frame. It turned out the painting was already in two frames, a smaller one inside an oversize one. They removed the larger frame, pulling out nails, saving the artist's signature from the back of the frame, and just handed it over, no charge. They are good folks who care about their work and customers, highly recommended. read more

I was given a gift certificate by my dad, brought in a few prints for framing. Spent more than the gift, but got outstanding customer service--smart, practical, no upsell for unnecessary bells and whistles--with pretty quick turn around and explanation of everything the whole way through. This kind of neighborhood store is exactly what people bemoan the lack of nowadays but they're still around. Price wasn't cheap but framing never is, and I was happy to exchange it for such a high level of service. read more

I am an art advisor and mama and I find KC Arts to be a fantastic community art supply and frame shop. Their framing is particularly notable as it is high quality, well, priced, and always done in a timely fashion. I'm also always surprised about what they can make in house-- if I want a particular frame in a different color or wood or anything, they do it and do it well. The staff is also kind, knowledgeable and modest considering their craftsmanship and skill levels. I highly recommend to anyone living in OR outside the neighborhood as it's definitely worth the trip. read more

This store has a good selection of art supplies with a real neighborhood feel. My review is based on the framing dept. Ralph was very helpful and professional on the phone. He worked with me based on my budget and set up a great turn-around time for nearly 20 pieces to be matted. Once in the shop an extremely gracious worker, Ray, completed the work and did an amazing job. My order required shipment across the country and they offered to do this and even built a custom-made box for my photographs for the job. Wonderful family owned neighborhood business - plenty of framing experience and pleasant customer service. Over the years, I've had a few pieces framed here - all turned out great. Most recently, I asked KC Art Supplies to frame two oversized pieces - with delivery and hanging service as well - fast turnaround and top notch craftsmanship! The owner even added a child proofing element to keep the artwork very secure on the wall (which I am very much appreciative of this extra step). I've been coming back to KC Art for years...and here's why. I can't say whether they're more expensive than other places---framing is pricey, but they've always been fair (even if they space out from time to time on calling me back....hey, it's a business staffed mostly by artsy students who seem to come and go each year...my expectations are set accordingly). Once, several years ago, I had an unpleasant exchange with one of the employees in the framing section---she was rude and after I went home, I wrote the owner, Ralph, a letter detailing my complaint. He called me and made me feel like a customer. He went out of his way to apologize and took care of me on my next purchase. It's easy to be unforgiving with all the options out there for consumers, but KC Art is a well-run small business that I'm happy to return to over and over, even if they don't get it 100% right every single time. read more
