Emergency situation - art show opens in 5 hours but my glass frame cracked. My budget is limited and timing is tight. Ralph and team at KC arts was nearby so I ran to them ASAP. they not only fixed it in less than 2 hours but they worked with my budget too. the art print is ona float mount so there are foam board spacers they have to break and replace while keeping the wood frame intact - not easy. A short but sweet visit to this fully stacked with all your creative needs art haven made us excited about creating art at the beginning of summer break. If summer camp was out the window already, it was pushed even further down the street and around the corner by the prospects of creating a masterpiece or two thanks to KC Art Supplies. My favorite pick from KC Art was the dotting watercolor paint brush. It's amazing as is all their specific art tools! But they have so much basic art and craft supplies for little creatives (of all ages) and of course, for us grown creatives, too. We were there for the basics: watercolor palettes, a brush set, and nontoxic acrylics. All of which we found quickly with minimal help from the friendly staff. A huge selection of great merchandise made it tough choosing what we needed verses what we wanted, which was everything! Over the last several years, I've used KC Arts' framing service five times. (I literally just walked around my apartment to count the number. I'd forgotten how many times I've gone to them!) Each time they've done work for me, it's been excellent. When they've created frames for my photos and movie posters, the frame has outclassed the photo or movie poster it contains. (That's not their fault.) They make frames that don't just contain the art but actually become part of the art, if that makes sense. Most recently, I asked them to frame an old, fragile t-shirt that had a lot of sentimental value to me. The gentleman in charge of the frame department (maybe he's the shop owner, too?) spent a significant amount of time making sure I was comfortable with every detail and all of the materials that would go into making it. He even described the process by which the t-shirt would be sewn to the mounting board and told me about the guy he works with who specifically does that. Yes, he has a guy whose role it is to handle just the sewing! He even accommodated (indulged) me in a couple of details most people would find insignificant. AND, when I explained that I was having this made for a specific occasion and that I was hoping to have it by a particular, very fast-approaching day, he didn't make any promises, but said he'd try. So I wasn't expecting miracles. But I received a text from the shop a full day before I'd hoped to have it, saying that it was ready to be picked up. And I was surprised at how great it looked. I couldn't have been happier. I can't recommend these people enough. KC Arts is a very "neighborhood-y" business and exemplifies what we hear so often--that small, independent businesses provide the most personalized service for their customers. It's obvious to me--a five-time frame customer--that they take great pride in their work. It shows in the final product. These are real professionals. read more

This place is really close to my house. I've had a couple of things framed here and it cost what seemed like a fortune, but I think framing is expensive no matter where you have it done. In any case they did a good job and were courteous enough. The real reason I like K.C., though, is they have an oddly great selection of art supplies. Paints, paper, brushes, books, crafts stuff...if you need it, they probably have it or at least a reasonable substitute or facsimile. The prices are highish but that's what happens when you shop at local stores. There's a reason scummy superstores like Walmart are driving small businesses into obscurity. However, the convenient location and personal, cheerful service make the extra cost completely worth it to me. And their occasional sales are killer. I just saved 50% on a desk calendar with vintage art prints of mobile homes. Finally, that trailer park decoupage project I've always dreamed about can come to fruition... Recommended. read more

KC is a small artists supply shop with a frame operation in back. I've had 10 or so prints framed at KC over the years, as well as one antique Chinese scroll, and they've done a great job. You get a 10% discount on custom framing after the first one. Everyone there is helpful and friendly, and the staff overall have had a good eye for mat colors and framing options. I recently visited when I had bought an off-the-shelf frame where the mat was the wrong size for the old magazine it was to display. I went in figuring I had to jerry-rig something, but the guy in the framing department was super helpful and proactive, offering to cut a custom mat and set it in the frame. $20 - great deal, came out looking fantastic. read more

3.5 stars... I'm not a huge fan of this place but it's nice that it's here, does that make sense? It's an art/framing store whose prices are a little high and whose service can be hit or miss depending on who's helping (or not helping) you. I dropped off a small poster to be mounted (not matted or framed) and they told me it would take about 9 days to get done (which it did). If you have a drink with you, leave it outside because there is no food or drink allowed in the store either. If you're a high school junior looking for a sketch book or something to scribble your teenage angst into, find a different store because they don't allow people under 18 in without adult supervision. read more

We had two maps framed here and they did a great job. It took awhile (10 days?) but I think that's normal. It cost $340, total, for approx. 20" by 26" pieces. No matting was needed, so the price was less than you'd see for a matted piece, obvs. What can I say, framing is expensive. Others have detailed their pleasant selection of art stuff, cards, etc. I didn't encounter the absent staff issue others complained about. The staff members who helped us were friendly and helpful. They *say* that you save money by having several pieces framed at once. This might just be a gimmick. If this had been any more expensive, we wouldn't have had it done. But, perhaps it is worth bringing in several pieces for quotation at the same time. They do have a selection of 35% off frames; these are uniformly the ugly frames, but the choice seems to change fairly often, so probably worth taking a gander at the sale section to see if there's anything non-ugly. read more

I could not have been more impressed with the high quility services, along with a personal touch of great customer service. My pictures look exquisite, with no glare reflections. The contractor working in my site asked who did my framing, and was impressed. Last year I had taken my other prints for home, to a frame place on Atlantic Avenue, they held my frames for three and a half months, overcharged me and they punctured one of my prints. KC could be considered overpriced when you compare it to Pearl Paint in Manhattan or Long Island, but when you consider it is more like a mom and pop store, then you understand the reason for the prices. The store is conveniently located and there is no store in the neighborhood that can compete with its' selection. It has its good points and its bad points. We've had a number of items framed here and all came out exactly as hoped. But just as good as the framing is the customer service. Recently, we took in a print that was framed with glass to have it re-framed with plexi so that it would be safe to hang in our daughter's room.
