I collect vintage movie posters, some of which can be in very rough condition. These are also one-of-a-kind, so they are large and very fragile--not the best combination to handle. Chelsea Frames has my complete confidence. I trust their work over other places I've checked out. As to the quality of their work, Chelsea Frames has done excellent restoration, linen-backing, and framing work with these delicate posters. For the amount of work, the price is reasonable. As to customer service, I've had wonderful experiences. They've always taken their time, showing me numerous options and giving me feedback, always without any negative or 'put upon' attitude. Staff completely indifferent. Prices WAY above market. Quality of work average (had to have one piece redone because they didn't put anything on the back of the metal frame and it scratched the wall). They admitted they forgot to put the cushions (or whatever they're called) on the back. They were not, however, the least bit apologetic. Not sure why this place gets so many great reviews; perhaps the staff gives better customer service to gallery owners and not the average bear. There are plenty of framing places in the neighborhood, I suggest going somewhere else. read more

Jaclyn and her staff are wonderful, and I always feel so welcome when I walk in there (especially if Kiwi is on the premises). Great job with framing some adhoc prints my boyfriend had collected over the years. I surprised my boyfriend with the framing and I'm so glad I trusted Chelsea Frames. Well, I don't know what made Tim S write a review like that for Chelsea Frames? all of my experiences here have been great! 125% customer service. I ran in there with a cracked frame, I needed it fixed a.s.a.p for an opening, the red head was extremely helpful and understanding. They fixed the frame as quickly as they could, they are super busy, everyone I know goes to Chelsea Frames. The quality is also worth everyone penny! the staff takes their time with each client and the results have always been superb for me! read more

I've gone here for a number of projects and their work is always impeccable. They stick to the budget and timeline that they estimate. It is definitely expensive (hence the 4 stars) but they have a great eye and can make a piece look like it's worth a million dollars, even if it was from a flea market! read more

Excellent quality and customer service. Attention to detail is very high. I had a piece done here a couple weeks ago and it was near perfect. The one minor flaw bothered me so I took it back asking for a possible solution. It was more a flaw with the art than frame, but they fixed it free of charge. Despite being the only customer when I entered the store, I was abruptly told by the red headed hag working the desk that they were too busy to assist me and that I should return at another time. Absolutely impeccable, do not go anywhere else in NYC. The proprietor Daniel designs and produces beautiful and unique frames that are works of art in themselves. He is brilliant at matching a frame style with a piece, and I have handed over several pieces to him to do what he thinks is best, and they have come back looking even better than I could have hoped for. I've had many, many pieces framed here over the years, from an enormous poster to a small etching. Each salesperson has taken the time to help me choose a frame, mat, and glass that are suitable for each piece. I've also been referred to an excellent paper restorer through Chelsea Frames and he does marvelous work. The frame selection is unbeatable and all my framed pieces look fabulous in my apartment--I always get lots of compliments. It's not the cheapest place but you get what you pay for. Chelsea Frames did excellent, museum quality work framing a number of pieces for me 2 years ago. I have been rotating the collection and when I took one of the pieces out of storage, a screw popped out inside the frame, cuasing the frame to gently undo itself. I brought the frame to the store and even though it was 2 years later, no questions were asked - they reframed the piece. Bravo!. read more

I can't say enough good things about Chelsea Frames. I had a very special portrait framed here and had an excellent experience choosing the best frame and matting for the photo. When some of the matting became warped a year later (potentially because of my movers' negligence), I called Jaclyn and she had the portrait picked up the next day from my apartment and fixed it very quickly at no charge. Besides the pricing bordering on grossly overpriced, I placed an order and paid in full at 4:30 pm on a Sunday before closing and called as they opened on Monday morning to hold the order, "please do not do anything as the order is being reconsidered" they did nothing more than write a receipt, the order was subsequently cancelled later on that week. The manager even called me the week I placed the order and told me no problem they will cancel the order and credit back my card BUT she failed to mention she was charging me $155 to cancel the order...not very NICE! I've had several pieces framed here and I've always had a good experience. They always seem to find the perfect frame to match whatever I bring in, from random homemade art pieces to photographs to expensive purchased pieces of art. I love that the place is locally and women-owned. Most of the people I've worked with there have been professional, creative, and friendly. The owner's dog is often in the store and is totally adorable. Love this place. read more
