On 8/19/22 I visited Botanica Las Mercedes, a store located in Park Slope, Brooklyn. I know one of the gentleman who works at the aforementioned establishment, but that didn't help any. I need it to purchase a few items, hence the visit to the store. The gentleman working behind the counter, in more than one ocassion refered to me utilizing male pronouns ( I am a trangender woman) I attempted to correct the person with a simple sentence - if you are sure of a persons gender just ask "what pronouns would you like me to use when addressing you" simple as taking a walk. An argument ensued with said person which become argumentative - at one point he said to the owner " you take care of this I don't need to deal with this." The customer is not always right, but to present as a female and have a gay man (he said he is gay) a member of my own community address me as a male in more than one occasssion after been corrected is sad and absolutely transphobic. At the end of the argument the employee nor the owner offered a simple apology - I advice the owner I would never shop at his store nor would i recommended to anyone. If you are a transgender person in need of religious articles (candle, incense, crystals) do not shop at this establishment as said employee is clearly transphobic. read more

Came all the way from San Francisco cus I heard all the greatest Santeria readings were in NY. With my overly friendly west coast attitude, I brought my skepticism along with me into this botanica. I was highly referred to Johnny so I was excited, but tried hard not to show it. Needless to say, I attempted a poker face but not even midway through the reading, I cracked due to the jaw dropping accuracy of Johnny's reading. The only question he asked me was my name and everything he mentioned would never pertain to anyone else. He gets detailed. Almost scary, but impressively detailed. The ambiance is positive and friendly which lets me find what I need exactly. This helps me feel more confident into making the appropriate decisions and I always leave satisfied with what I purchased. Johnnys products are great quality and readings are accurate. Even if they do not have something, they will go out of their way to find out when it will be ordered or they will make note of it and order it for you. They are honest and provide an alternative avenue to find what they may not be able to obtain, but in most cases this is rare because they make an effort to have in stock whatever I need.
