Anyway this store is set up like the old location, but now they have a small black dog wearing a witch tutu, so cute. 12 years ago I had an entity in my apartment, you know the usual stuff- coins being dropped in the middle of the night, hand towels flying off my stove, and a heavy gut-tingling feeling every time I entered the apartment, plus bad dreams galore! I was a WRECK! So I went to enchantments to get a protection candle made and they were very helpful, at first I walked in and they were joking around about Shania Twain but when they saw how serious I was, they KNEW exactly what to do, dropped the gossip and made a candle for me which worked after less than 24 hours. My apartment felt lighter and the entity was gone. I kid you not. Anyway, these baddies know their craft, and even if they have off days just remember that it's a powerful store. This situation enraged me. I may be a witch but I cannot levitate. The "ramp" out front of the store is so steep that anyone who uses a wheelchair is going to tip over. This is dangerous and possibly a lawsuit waiting to happen. Am I wrong to expect some love and acceptance from my fellow embracers of magic? Because there's more than enough room for an appropriate sized ramp here. I ended up sitting outside in the freezing cold for 40 minutes, while friends bought a candle and some other blessed things. Eventually the cold got to be so bad that I fled to a nearby library to defrost. Inside the store are more laughable attempts at compliance, except here half the way-too-steep ramp is blocked by boxes like you've entered a rummage sale. Why even act like you accept people who use wheelchairs? Such inappropriate treatment of our safety is outrageous. Do you want us to fall out our chairs and break ourselves further? Do you want an ambulance to come? Maybe the cops? Cuz when someone does get hurt here I can't imagine this shop is going to survive the payout for the hospital bills. DO BETTER read more

I love the queens that work here :) Dont walk your butt up in here if you're not ready to face goddesses with strong auras and energy, it's not for the faint hearted, so please disregard the negative reviews here. If you go here do not pick up a statue because you will get yelled out so loudly that it will startle you like no tomorrow. If you do not have good eyesight like me, and don't see the small hand printed sign to not pick up the statues than you will be yelled at in the way I reserve for someone who is going to try to rob me. I got told if I break it than I buy it, and I was going to buy it. I didn't buy it after being yelled at though. You can tell someone not to pick up something without yelling at the top of your lungs. I am 54 years old and have never seen anyone yelled at in a business the way I was today, and I was with my two adult Daughters who were also very embarrassed. I had a lot of money to spend there today and had been looking forward to going since I live across the country, but ended up only spending a small amount. Well they brought the same weird vibe from their old location to the new one, in case you were concerned you'd miss out on that. They weren't completely dismissive and rude as I've experienced in the past, I do think they're trying, but I prefer to go elsewhere. The women in the back working the oil, resin, candle section decided to explain to my friends and I why everything is chaotic right now according to astrology, for 10 minutes, completely unprompted, name dropping planets like they were celebrities. We nodded, waiting for them to finish so we could go back to shopping. Before that it took about 15 minutes just to have her pour me some oil because she was doing something similar to someone else. I bought some books, candles, oils, other things. Spent a good amount and ended up going back to the register more than once. A good thing right? Woman behind the counter kept glancing at me as I browsed, seeming to just wish I'd leave but was biting her tongue about it. At one point I asked her about a symbol and she just said she didn't know because she was of another religion. I smiled and said so was I, just thought SHE, who worked there, might know. I was watching one video on Facebook about this place. I was eager to go and find out what magic happens in this place. Beautiful neighborhood and nice place. It's a small place and tends to be very crowded on the weekends, so if you can go during the week will be better. A lot of books, salts , oils , jewelry and incenses. The magic starts with seeing a black cat running around the place, beautiful cat. You can see different figures and books. At the back you would see the "witches" carving the candles and putting the spells you choose. Glitter in everything and everywhere! My kind of thing! I love glitter!! I didn't know what to do so I saw everyone reading a binder and I started reading the binder. Inside was the different oils and smells they have. A little description of everything. The "witch" explained everything. I told her what I wanted and she knew which spell to used hahaha , she asked my name and I had to wait 45 minutes for my candle. After 45 minutes my candle was done. The "witch" put the instructions on the bag but she explained a little bit before I left. 4 stars because the guy at the cashier was very nasty and rude. It's a very interesting place. read more

Great energy and friendly sales people are the reason I patronize Enchantments. This is a small cozy store front location neatly tucked away in the Village in lower Manhattan. The store has boxes stacked on the sales floor, incense burning, and glitter is strewn haphazardly across the aging wood floors. It's tight and it may be as some described as "cluttered" but honestly all that gives this place character. The wonderful varieties of almost every herb on earth paraded in glass jars was one of my favorite displays. They make custom candle for just about anything your heart desires. The staff answered all my questions with a smile and recommended oils that would help me assist me in my specific endeavors. There is about a thirty minute wait as they carve your candle to perfection but take my word for it, it is worth the wait. You can peruse the shelves in search of incense, oils, books, herbs, potions or you can just sit back and soak up the good vibes. The staff was polite but busy. The store was packed. The young lady who rang up my purchases was cordial and friendly. I am never disappointed here. read more

I've been buying custom carved candles from Enchantments for the last decade. If you believe in the power of intention, manifestation and are open to witchy magic--then you should check this store out. I like to go in and talk to someone behind the candle counter because I've learned that sometimes the candle I think I need isn't really the one I need just yet--or maybe I need to burn one candle before I can burn the one I really want to get to. For instance, last month I went in for a birthday candle (Solar Blast) but after talking to the Enchantments staff about what was going on in my life, it was recommended to me to get an Uncrossing candle to get rid of blockages before using the Solar Blast candle to bring in new positive energy. I love this place. I also got some Motivation spray that I'm convinced is also working. You need to be open minded, mature and sensitive before going into this store. read more

I came in last month on my trip to NYC. It looked like an interesting store, and I was super excited to check it out with some of my friends. Unfortunately, the experience was not nearly what I had hoped for. I get the weird, dark vibe, because it's a witchcraft store, but it's still a little off-putting. The employers were incredibly rude and dismissive. Everything was really overpriced, and it didn't seem worth it at all. Though I don't live in NY, I thought it might be a good idea to warn other customers who may be thinking of coming here. I've mentioned this before and I even had it on a Google review that had a significant amount of thumbs up -- indicating agreeance from others (but has since been removed since that gmail account is no longer active) but it's beyond inappropriate that your employees beg for tips. Tips are be appreciated, not expected. The woman at the counter asked me 5 times to tip her in a store full of customers. She pointed to the bags and said we packed everything for you. Yes, that is your job. I'm not tipping someone for doing their job. Or when they pour the oils in the back. That is your job. If you'd like, let me pour the oil myself so you don't feel entitled to a tip. I've been a loyal customer for 5 years and I'm no stranger to the increase in prices, but to outright demand a tip is unacceptable. Everyone is struggling financially right now. It's a horrible economic situation. But I don't owe anyone a tip. I have my own bills to pay. And if your employees are so publicly dissatisfied with their hourly rate, maybe they should look for another job. I will be posting another Google review and going to social media as well. I had a very disturbing experience here. Although I was already aware these people weren't the friendliest (per my previous visits), I didn't expect to see them be so callous towards their own cats. One of the cashiers started cutting the youngest cats' nails --and the cat began howling. The entire store turned to see what was going on. The other cashier, who seemed to be "higher up" like a manager said something like "Oh they're just being dramatic" about the cat. As the cat howled, it seemed obvious the woman cutting their nails hadn't done it before. She kept asking the other manager-like woman about the cats nails as she was cutting them, and the manager-like one just brushed it all off not seeming to care. I've had 5 pet cats over my lifetime, who've hated having their nails clipped (all cats do) but I've never seen howling like this. Then I looked over the counter while she was cutting them, and I was appalled. She was cutting them too short and likely hitting the nerves. To avoid hitting the nerves you have to look closely in good lighting to see where the nerves start in the nails so you don't hurt the cat. The lighting there was poor and she wasn't looking closely, just cutting short, likely hitting the nerves and hence why the cat was howling. The reason their older cat wasn't howling while they were cutting his nails was probably because of his old age and the nerves not being as sensitive, if there's feeling left in them at all. The woman cutting their nails kept commenting how his nails didn't "look right" and there were "growths", and the manager-like woman completely dismissed her. I wouldn't be surprised if the nails had gotten infected from being cut so short. I tried to say something but these people didn't care. I understand them not knowing any better (however that's why google exists..), but possibly causing their cat pain bc of their egos is sociopathic. Also, it made me doubt whether the money/tip jar on the counter for the older cat's "medical expenses" really goes towards that. They weren't even aware the cat had a growth on its toes/nails. The manager-like woman said it was "candle wax", prompting the other woman to say "no it's a growth". If this cat were seeing a vet, these people would have known about the growth. Used to come here over a decade ago and while it's changed it's layout, it's the same place I was charmed by way back when. A friend of mine was in town from San Francisco for work and wanted to check out some great vegan spots, while I badly wanted to get some good luck by having him get me a new tarot deck ((I must I've been using the same deck for a long time and seeing as I got it for myself, I thought it a good idea to make up for it my bad luck by having him buy me a new deck)). Please give your business elsewhere, not here. Possible restructuring and organization is needed here. Space is cluttered with rude staffs. For a busy Saturday, the staffs aren't appreciatively organized in the floor space to assist clients, just in their corners (i.e. cash wrap and herbal station, etc.). Some staffs seem timid and uncomfortable. Also it was the weekend of the Full Moon in Aries. Upon entering the floor, I felt this tremendous heavy-pressed energy on my heart, I just wanted to leave. I'm glad I didn't purchase any candles (that would have boost their ADS but the energy to be kind and courteous isn't here). Just brassy-sass. I came in for certain ingredients but at the end of the day, I realized I wanted to be elsewhere. Plus. I wasn't greeted. The cashier was curving out intentional candles at the cash wrap (I don't want her energy in these candles). The cashier couldn't answer my question about certain incense format, so immediately directed myself to the staff in the back. This is probably one of my favorite shops I've ever been too! I purchased a book, cards, and a custom candle. All of which I was satisfied and personally I found the prices overall fair. While the shop is on the smaller side it has a great selection of pretty much everything.The adorable black cats were also a bonus. I also received a reading from Nette which was amazing! She is truly talented, makes you feel very comfortable, and translates the cards in various ways to make sure you clearly understand what they are trying to say. She also did a beautiful job on my custom candle however the another woman designed my mother's candle and it did not look as good but it was still pretty decent. I am from California so it is very unlikely I will return but if I ever return to the city I would DEFINITELY return! read more

Let's just get this out of the way right now: The previous reviews are true-- absolutely no one will greet you upon entering. Now with that out of the way let's get on to the rest of it! The space is a tight narrow, dark store packed with unique books, tons of candles, herbs, incense and even glitter- all the things any modern conjurer, witch, bruja, healer whatever you're calling yourself needs. There's even a sweet kitty that lounges on the counter for affect. The thing is, it's an okay metaphysical store. Some of the prepackaged spell kits are laughable. The staff is okay. After browsing for 10 minutes one kind person asked if I needed help. Honestly, no I did not need help. I could figure it out on my own, but it was nice to be asked. As someone who has worked retail and managed a store it's customer service 101 to greet every single body walking in the door. It takes nothing to say "hi!" as you stand behind the counter, arrange candles or move a book from one shelf to another. But hey this is NYC right? People think it's totally acceptable to throw each other down a flight of subway stairs when their late to catch their train. Moving on the best thing about Enchantments might be their vast selection. It's easy to find exactly what you need and they have more in stock than many other shops in the area. I adore this spiritual shop for its custom blend incense and oils! You walk in and instantly feel a blanket of warmth cover you. Everyone in the shop is so nice and super helpful. If you ever have a question you are certain to get an answer. I frequent this place often and always bring a friend! Now my friends also love this place. New York seems to have a lack of great occult bookstores. Enchantments came up as the #1 when I googled, and it's pretty tiny and run down. Complicating that, the small space is disorganized and the floor was so covered in unpacked boxes of what I took to be books, that it was kind of hard to even browse without having to watch your step carefully. All that's OK, though. Kind of adds character. It's the staff that really bring the place down. Just like other reviews have said. I was looking at a really cute little Cthulhu bust that appeared to be about $20. Being a Lovecraft fan, I thought about getting it more as an occult NYC souvenir than anything. So I pulled out my phone to grab a pic and text my wife for her opinion. From behind me and a yard or two back I hear this clerk shout "No photos. Sorry" in a really nasty tone. First off, no photos of what? I understand if you're a tourist spot and sell postcards of the place so you don't allow photos. But this hole in the wall is not that. I also understand if you sell unique designer products. But this place sold books mostly available at B&N and all available at Amazon, so they didn't have that either. I went into the shop for the first time yesterday looking for ritual ingredients, and ended up chatting with one of the women who worked there about the personalized carved candles. I ended up getting a little emotional talking about my breakup, and she was incredibly kind and empathetic, and explained a few options that might help me to heal. She carved me a love healing candle herself, and I can only imagine that the energy and intention she put in that candle will be as sweet and as healing as she was. The shop itself is SO lovely and peaceful, with a large selection and sweet little kitties there to keep you company while you shop. I picked up a few books and walked around with them to browse and no one approached me to ask if I needed any help or had questions. Didn't see a point in spending money at a shop where they really could have cared less if I was there or not. What a wonderful place! They had safe protocol for temp check, mask check, and complimentary gloves if you were going to browse and touch things in the store. The staff up front was friendly and super helpful if I had any questions or concerns. I witnessed a customer being verbally and emotionally abused at Enchantments tonight. It was shocking, absolutely the most unprofessional display I have EVER seen. It was so horrible I had to intervene on behalf of a total stranger. I walked in, planning on doing some holiday shopping. I heard an employee, who later told me her name was Netty and that she was a manager, yelling at a customer. She was telling the customer that she was negative and horrible and that she refused to help someone like her. Netty appears to be white. The customer was not. She also clearly didn't speak English as a first language. I know, because I went up to the customer, whom I will call Jane, and told her she didn't deserve to be spoken to that way. Jane's English was good, but I think she was so upset at how she was treated, and possibly confused by the expressions Netty was using, like "psychic vampire (yes, Netty called this customer a "psychic vampire") that it made Jane's speech a little halting. Jane was quiet and didn't do anything wrong. When Netty saw me talking to Jane, Netty asked me, "Is she your friend?" I said no, I just met her. I tried to be nice. I was nice. I kindly told Netty that we all had bad days and sometimes that made us act in ways we wouldn't usually. Netty interrupted and told me that I didn't know "the context" and started defending her behavior. She then told Jane that Jane was negative, a negative space, a psychic vampire -- it was HORRIBLE! Netty went on and on. At that point I asked Netty her name and if I could speak to the manager. Netty told me her name and said she was the manager, then started in again on Jane, telling her to get out. I walked out with Jane, who was stunned and upset. Jane told me she had come for a reading (it was around 5 or 6 pm) and that she had called the store to ask if she could get a reading. They told her to come in, but when she got there, Netty told her she couldn't have a reading. Jane told me she offered to pay extra, but Netty lost her temper. A young man was outside and he helped me comfort Jane. He had also witnessed Netty's disgusting and unprofessional treatment of Jane. He was so horrified he told me he would never return to Enchantments. I told him I wouldn't either, nor would my husband. I gave Jane the name of a kind, professional, and talented psychic who could do the reading she needed. It was the least I could do. So this psychic I knew gained a customer, Jane found a psychic, and Enchantments lost four customers forever. It will lose more as long as Netty works there. One more thing -- I was really surprised that Enchantments has never responded to apologize, clarify, anything. That is more evidence of how unprofessional Enchantments is. It also shows something Netty made clear -- Enchantments does not care about their customers. I don't think Enchantments even likes their customers. read more
