Citrine point
Steve M.

Fantastic little gem and mineral shop! So many things to look at, you need a few hours to carefully look over everything. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Lots of things for every budget but 90% of the store is priced well North of $150 with most being close to $1,000 for nicer pieces. Manhattan prices, for sure, but this shouldn't be shocking considering that there isn't a place with this kind of selection in the area. Come in and look at all the beautiful pieces and enjoy!

Beautiful Stone and crystal bracelet/charms!
Lupe B.

The store is beautiful and filled with lots of goodies but like most stores in NYC it's small. However, that doesn't mean you won't find a hidden gem here or there. I really liked the small discount basket they had near the front register. Regretfully, I didn't take a picture of but I will back.

The sodalite heart in question

Bro I do not like leaving bad reviews but $28 for a sodalite heart is crazy. I think the larger pieces might have been well-priced, but the smaller pieces were priced 2-3 times what they should have been. They did have a large selection though and it was cool looking at all the crystals, but seeing something as simple as a little quartz trinket dish for like $140 put a damper on my day :'(. I'd love to come back if they adjusted pricing

Such a great little store with an eclectic range of crystals. The most noteworthy aspect aside from their collection was the staff's genuine desire to help their customers. Although I was browsing quietly for most of the time, I overheard a lot of instances in which the employees were going above and beyond to assist their customers with what they were looking for. As for my finds: I found the selenite tower of my dreams for only $24 and a beautiful galena geode for $8! TLDR: if you have time to support small businesses while in NY, come through!

The shop is gorgeous with such a massive selection, I found everything I wanted and more. The person working in the shop was insanely knowledgeable and told me all about how the crystals were brought in, excavated and formed. If you're looking for a crystal shop in Manhattan I recommend Rock Star Crystals.

Lapis lazuli and black chain with faulty silver attachment
Nadia A.

I purchased a lapis lazuli pendant from them and two days after purchase it broke. I literally wore it one time and 10 minutes after I put it on it slipped right off of the silver piece it was attached to as I walking to a bus stop. Because I had purchased a different crystal pendant from them in the past and had no issues I felt like I could trust that they sell quality products. So I was surprised and disappointed that happened. I found time to go to the store the next day to see if they could help me by exchanging the pendant because I still wanted to use it for the purpose I intended. He was completely dismissive and kept saying that all sales were final. I primarily spoke to one of the two people at the register and he suggested that I "spend $2 on krazy glue" to glue the pendant back into its place. I pointed out that that would require me to spend more money and when I purchased the product I did so with the confidence that it was solid. I also stated that I feel I was sold something broken although they insisted they didn't. The other worker spoke up in their coworker's defense and stated that if it was sold broken, it would have slid right off when he was tying the chain on for me to which I disagreed especially given how quickly it fell off my body and onto the ground. What was left on my neck when it fell was the chain with the silver attached to the chain. In showing up there, I was intentional about not being rude and just wanted to come up with a suitable solution that was fair. I stressed to them that I came there because I needed help especially because it was expensive. I'm not sure why they were so dismissive of me right away and I began to wonder later if my gender and race had anything to do with it. I just couldn't make sense of being treated that way and I suppose I may never know exactly what was coming up for them that they would talk to me like I am being wrong or unreasonable. When I mentioned that I was a graduate student, the worker who suggested I buy the glue quickly cut me off to say that he is a graduate student as well and have an apartment and pets and so on. I responded by saying that it wasn't helping to compare living circumstances and I just wanted to focus on the issue at hand. I resumed making my point before I got cut off and explained that the reason I brought up the graduate student thing to make the point that when I make an investment, I try to be thoughtful about it and again I reminded them that I had a good experience there before. He stressed that they inspect every piece and remove anything that is broken. I suggested that perhaps the way they inspect the type of pendant I purchased needs to change because they it didn't seem like anyone caught that the product was faulty. I wouldn't have purchased it if I knew that it would instantly break. In response, he again said I could just spend $2 on the glue, as if I'm being cheap and unreasonable. As I'm reflecting on it further now and realizing how much gaslighting I feel I experienced from them, I am beginning to think that somebody (perhaps not one of them) was aware that the product was faulty and put it up for sale anyway or that they don't inspect everything as thoroughly as they suggest because somehow the product I bought slipped through the cracks. He also brought up how their products are from out of the country and they are sold to them as is. He went on and on and on to justify not helping me in a manner that was fair. Either way, they will never see a dime from me again. I feel like I got scammed and they were upset I had the audacity to speak up for myself. It was truly bizarre and hurtful. I'm hoping that in sharing my experience, I can help someone else avoid potentially being gaslit or sold a product that isn't solid. If you can, go elsewhere, where the company cares about integrity, the customer satisfaction, and operation from a space of good energy. Because this ain't it.

Kazumi has been my favorite manager for years--our encounters are always joyful--and today I also met Tamaki, who had a wonderful, welcoming presence. Normally my visits are a 9-10/10, but this time fell short due to Kaoru's behavior. After I politely declined a tray in the crystal section, she sucked her teeth and muttered something under her breath. Later at checkout, Kaoru -- a woman with a bob haircut) -- ignored my question until I repeated it, tossed my receipt at me, didn't bag my items, and walked away when I asked her name, telling me "it wasn't necessary". I also couldn't help but notice I was the only one who looked like me in the store at the time, which made the interaction feel targeted. This was especially disappointing because every other transaction I've had here has been handled with care. As a loyal, long-time customer, I hope Kaoru's attitude improves, because the warmth and professionalism I've consistently received from Kazumi and Tamaki are what make Toho Shoji such a special place.

Some pieces are classic others are edgy. There was an angular pair of hoop earrings that I liked, but I would have preferred them in silver. There is also an online store that sells these items, with a larger inventory. The most impressive part is the cost. Everything is so appropriately priced.
