They asked questions, explained the process, and made suggestions that worked. Everyone has a great sense of color and proportion, and all the attention to detail and documentation you could ask for when handing over your artwork. Folks, thank you for the technical (cropping, getting digital images out of my Mac and into Blick's servers) AND artistic education. With Tera's enthusiastic attitude one day and Xiao's patient, calm demeanor the next, I forgot to be anxious and actually had a good time. Prices were reasonable and definitely transparent. Some of my things were complicated and/or special, and worth the $$$ spent. On the other end, there was no attitude and no shame for being unable to spend a fortune on each piece. For instance, Maria was happy to take a low priced stock frame off the shelf so that the complicated 2-opening mat one item needed was affordable. When a pick up was enormous and heavy, Tera actually helped me out the door, down the block, and around the corner. She waited with me for an Uber to come and get it all home! Though turnaround time is not instantaneous, Blick meets promised deadlines. Last but not least, shout out to Phil, another employee who chatted with me during a short wait. Details do matter.

They sold me on an 11x14 Blick spiral drawing pad, and a 9-pack of oil paints. I told them that it was for my upcoming painting class, which I was excited to take, as I had painted a lot with acrylic paint over the summer to relieve stress. It was a great outlet, as I was stressed about the summer camp job I decided to take before applying to Blick. It wasn't very well-run, so the camp itself was difficult to navigate as an employee. It was an art camp, so we used a lot of paint and other digital art materials while working. With this art experience over the summer, it was great to get back into a conversation about it. The only major problem was that the register was taking a long time to load after I had already paid, so I couldn't leave until it went all the way through. I understood though, as it reminded me of the times that the tech at my summer job wasn't working no matter what we tried. Nearly every day there were new issues we would run into. My coworkers and I would have to troubleshoot new solutions to see what would work. Like the workers at Blick, though, we would make it work. Eventually, I paid, and was able to leave. Overall, I definitely would return to this Blick location. The service was good, and I am happy with my purchases!

I also don't have much to compare the prices to, but judging by some of their exorbitant prices on regular stationery items, there are probably better deals to be had elsewhere (feel free to tell me where, just in case I actually stick with this painting thing). In any case, the total came out a bit higher than I would've liked to spend, but you can't put a price tag on art. First she tried a 'bargain' frame shop in Sunset Park, with an online coupon. Quick lesson: beware of bargains - the selection was poor. I suggested several shops that we could go to. We started at 7th Ave with my caveat: this was a top-dollar place. What a pleasant surprise! The prices were at least comparable to the bargain factory, and the selection was SO much better. We were also fortunate with our associate - I don't know her name, but she's blond, and has a very good eye. I'd thought that it would be a difficult picture to find a frame for, especially on a budget. She had at least 5-6 legitimate and appealing frames. We got so excited when we found the perfect frame! The search ended there, so we never got to any of the other places. In summary: The customer service was wonderful, the price, although not cheap, was fair, and the curated selection was all that we could ask for.
