Honestly, working with Jeff was one of the best shopping/service experiences I've had in my 15 years in NYC - no exaggeration. I went to Jeff to get a crucifix wall plaque framed. It was handed down to my husband from his parents, who received it from their church in Mexico before they left for the US. It isn't an expensive piece of art but it holds a tremendous amount of value and significance to us. Rather than treating me and the crucifix as a transaction, Jeff took the time to hear the story of the piece and was extremely genuine, helpful, and patient every step of the way - from choosing a frame, matting, and glass to cover the piece. He was very professional, but more importantly, he was very personable and it felt like working with an old friend! I read a recent review on here that mentioned the shop was "completely locked and closed on 11/24." My appointment to see Jeff was that same day and I had no problems at all. Being that there's a pandemic and it's a relatively small shop, you do have to give Jeff a call when you arrive outside, and there's a sign on the building that clearly says that with his number. Personally, I appreciated this, and that Jeff is doing everything to keep his customers safe. Not sure why that would be upsetting to someone - but I'm all about that level of precaution. If I wanted to feel questionable about shopping and risking my health, I'd visit Florida (Floridians... I'm joking!) Long story short, if you're on this Yelp page trying to figure out where to get your pieces framed, rest assured that your journey ends here. Do yourself a favor and reach out to Jeff. I was in and out in 15 minutes. Jeff was very accommodating even though I just walked in without appointments and he had another client come in while I was there. I was just looking for something simple, so he explained my options for what I needed without the frills. I appreciate that. He's very professional - that same day I received my invoice via email. And even though he quoted 3 weeks to get the work done, within two weeks, I received an email for pick up. He's absolutely delightful and easy to work with. Clearly knows what he's doing. I had a negative experience at this shop but cannot comment on the framing. I scheduled an appointment by email to have a framing completed at a specific time and I arrived exactly on time. The place was completely locked and closed. I waited for 15 minutes and nobody showed up. I heard nothing from the owner or any reason why my appointment was missed. Jeff is very, very good at what he does. I found Jeff after having two mediocre experiences framing in Manhattan followed by a horrific customer experience in Clinton Hill. Frankly, I was looking forward to framing my print in the same way someone looks forward to going to the DMV. Reluctantly, I started calling around to find a place that wouldn't screw me over and after a quick call with Jeff I rolled the dice and headed over with my print to talk about options. It went very well. A warm welcome, followed by a quick tour of the shop and we were down to business. We unrolled the print and Jeff immediately identified the artist and the back story -- a sign that I was probably in safe hands. He presented a number of options for framing, was very transparent about pricing and was able to share his perspective on how the artist intended the piece to be shown. It was such a pleasant and reassuring process and I left the shop feeling relieved. We picked up the frame two weeks later and were absolutely delighted with the work. The float mount is impeccable and the frame flawless. Everyone who sees the piece comments on it and we will treasure it for years to come. He set clear expectations with what he could and couldn't do. It turned out better then we could have expected. He is truly a craftsman and takes great pride in his work. The prices are extremely fair, his turnaround was incredibly fast (using stocked materials) compared to other quotes and he was incredibly professional in the studio. I found Boerum Frames through positive Yelp reviews and had a great experience, so I figured I should keep it going with another glowing review. I wanted to frame something as a gift for a retiring coworker, but didn't have a super clear vision of what I wanted. I also wanted it to look nice, but wanted to keep the cost reasonable. Jeff took the time to walk me through all the options and offered his professional advice (which I really needed!) The result was a beautiful frame, which I was really excited about gifting, and it stayed within my budget. Actually, after much back and forth with options, Jeff realized that he might have charged me for a mounting service I had considered, but ultimately didn't choose. He emailed me immediately to sort it out and when I confirmed that I hadn't wanted that mounting he wrote me a check for the difference. It's something that totally would have gone unnoticed by me had he not pointed it out. It's pretty sweet to get quick, custom, fair, and honest service! Be aware that the place is a little hidden and the doorbell speaker doesn't always work (seems to be a problem on super hot days). Patiently wait by the door and someone will let you in! We called a few places in the neighborhood (all well rated on Yelp) for pricing and found that when we actually went to the place the price went way up for one reason or another -- not the case with Jeff at Boerum Frames. I had a great experience working with Jeff. He does excellent work, is totally transparent about cost and is just a nice guy. I brought in three pieces to have framed. Jeff was patient in working with me to choose the right frame, matte and glass options at the right price. I should note that Jeff has a lot of sophisticated clients with high-value framing needs. For instance, while I was there he had two massive canvas paintings delivered from France. Despite that, when you are in his workshop your art is his number one priority. The two pieces we ended up framing came out great. The prices compare very favorably to what we have paid at other framing shops. The third piece we are handling ourselves at Jeff's suggestion. We had a number of pieces collected from our travels to various parts of the world that we wanted to display - they are of varying market value (tho none significant) but very special to us.
