My husband and I stopped in here while on vacation, hoping to avoid rush hour traffic coming down from Vancouver. We stopped around 6 pm on a random Tuesday and were seated right away at the sushi counter. It took a few minutes to be greeted but turns out the kitchen was dealing with a huge mess up. We got our order in, two sushi rolls and chicken katsu. Sushi came out first about 10 minutes before the chicken. Ordinarily we'd be annoyed about this, and we were, but everything was so amazing we hardly let it bother us. Some of the best sushi and katsu we've ever had. Nice enough place. Music playing at 2pm Sat a bit obscure pop genre, seemed odd. Ordered spicy tuna sushi, staff member said the tuna was "Atlantic tuna" which we are not a fan of so didn't each much of it. We'll probably return to San Kai for a keener level of food quality. read more

very mediocre experience, unfortunately. we paid a little over $100 total with tax and tip for two people and got the tempura udon, the agedashi tofu, a sushi roll and a few pieces of nigiri. tempura udon and agedashi tofu were solid but nothing out of the ordinary. my gripe is with the sushi - the fish on the nigiri did not taste or look fresh at all and the sushi roll was pretty bland. for the price, i definitely expected more, especially given that other reviews made this place sound really good. will probably not return again as there are way better options for sushi if we drive 15 min south into seattle. service was okay. read more

It hurts to write this review because I wanted to like this place so bad. I came to Sushi Moto somewhat frequently for solid sushi and after coming to Kazoku with high hopes, it failed to hit the mark in disappointing fashion. This review is solely about the food as the staff was nice and provide service you'd expect. The sushi was sub-par. First, the bad: - The uni (sea urchin) being $10 per piece, was old, stale, and extremely fishy. I almost wanted to throw up the pieces I ate. - The "Robert Roll" is great but both presentation and taste are off. They top the roll with what looks like minced fish. It does not make the food appetizing to look at. The scallop inside was too fishy tasting. - The soft shell crab and deep fried oysters are too firm to be enjoyable. - Tuna tartare is just off. The texture of the tuna is odd and had an off taste as well. It was a little too firm. - Ankimo (fish liver) was not as good as Sushi Moto's For the good: - The salmon sashimi was soft and delicious, very fresh - Spicy tuna roll, tofu pockets, ikura (hard to mess up) - Unagi don rice is really good The whole meal was mixed but given we spent almost $300 after tip, it left A LOT to be desired. I likely will not be coming back unless big changes to fish quality are made. Really disappointing as an Edmonds local. read more

Kazoku is an amazing restaurant! The ambiance is cozy with a long sushi bar, regular tables, and a few smaller rooms for a more private dining experience. We started with the Tako Yaki and gyoza (pan fried). The Tako Yaki is AMAZING! The plating of it shows a deep understanding that we eat with our eyes before our mouths. Our waiter Jack recommend the Ton Katsu which was excellent! I also ordered a spicy tuna roll which was delicious as well. Last but not least, we had the Banana split desert, which has mochi and deep fried banana.... YUM! Overall this is an excellent new addition to the greater Edmonds area. A couple caveats before I leave this review: this was a takeout order and previous visits had resulted in a exceptionally delicious experience. However, when ordering take out yesterday we were incredibly disappointed in our dinner. First our spicy tuna rolls all had a peculiar taste that we found bitter. We also found our Bobby roll to be under performing in the taste department. The crab was not as good as times prior, hopefully just a fluke. Either way the quality of the remainder of our order was also not as tasty as our previous visits. Hopefully this was just a lapse in qa or perhaps a new chef getting adjusted because we really do enjoy this place. read more

We traveled here from Seattle because of the top reviews but were disappointed when our Teriyaki Chicken dish arrived. It was late lunch on Saturday with only 5 customer group parties of 2 or 3. All of were served overcooked dry chicken over a large portion of mushrooms & onions with a small amount of teriyaki sauce. It tasted uncomfortable. However, the gyoza was terrific. in contrast but no enough to save our chicken or house salad with barley a drizzle of ... okay I'm truly not sure what dressing was on the salad. We shared the salad and I got no dressing and the others thought they tasted maybe Italian. The most interesting fact was that three chefs stood by the raw fish bar with no customers and the remaining three service staff provided very good service to seventeen customers seated at six different tables. Good food, but too loud on a Sunday evening. There were people eating at the sushi bar and joking around with the chef. Their laughter was crazy loud, and I could see that a number of the customers were irritated. We were irritated too and left immediately at the end of our meal. Just too loud on a Sunday evening before a long work week. Maybe the chefs can have a meeting and discuss reading the room and what to do when customers are getting drunk and loud. read more

I've gone to Kazoku two separate times. One for happy hour and one for a regular dinner with my family. I was really excited to go and check it out as I didn't particularly care for the previous sushi place. When I went for happy hour, we got seated immediately and was able to order water, beers and a 3 HH apps (sashimi, spicy tuna roll, fries). It took 15 mins before we received our waters and then our first app came out 30 mins later, but didn't see our other apps for another 20 mins. I was 3/4 done with my dinner, when we finally got my beers and the last of my appetizer. It wasn't very busy, I believe there were 2 people at the bar and 3 other small parties of 2 or 3 people. Plates were cleared, waited around another 10 mins before I had to flag someone down to cash out.. The second outing was with my family. Again, seated immediately, greeted by our server. Ordered some apps and tea. Waited a good 15 mins for our tea before we had to ask another server (which I hate doing). Our original server did not let us know someone else would be serving us, as he was assisting another large party, so we waited and waited around till we flagged someone else down. Took about 30 mins to get any of our appetizers, and our main entrees another 45 mins. They had staggered our entrees, but my brother and mom waited for their food for 20 mins after my other brother and I received our entrees. This time they were busier, but more staffed. I understand the difference between being busy and not making rounds to check on their guests, but the food took too long. We were a party of 4 and it took 2.5 hours to get all of our food. We didn't order a crazy amount of food, a couple apps to share and each an entree. I really wanted to love this place as I've heard such good reviews. The food was really good, but they are terribly understaffed and the service was mediocre. I would love to come back and support the business, as the food was really good, but the service has not been great. I wish them the best of luck and hope they are more attentive to their guests and the service is much quicker. read more
