Me and the kids dropped in on a Friday evening for dinner to celebrate my kid earning his yellow belt in TKD. I made a reservation online for 5pm and we were seated promptly once we arrived. It is located in the Boo Han shopping center next to Pho Than Brothers. The space is simple and clean with a good amount of seating area. Service is friendly and fast at first then once they got busy it slowed down immensely. We ordered: House salad - small & basic with a soy dressing Miso soup - kids enjoyed it Chicken kaarage - not a favorite, the chicken was not flavored or fried well Spider roll - delicious Crunchy shrimp tempura roll - delicious, the outside rolled in crunchy tempura flakes were nice Hamachi kama - it was a little burnt on the outside which made it bitter Salmon kama - nicely baked salmon collar Overall, it was decent and nice to be able to swing by somewhere near & enjoy some sushi rolls with the kids. great service! great food! the host/server ( wish i remembered his name) no discrimination all respect since we share in the LGBT experience. the host made my wife and i feel very included, when often we get rude looks and terrible service. the guy serving/hosting was amazing i hate that i can't remember his name but he truly made the experience better, having us go out of our comfort zone to try the EEL roll, very tasty we might add :) but this host is amazing and keeping your customers coming back. my wife and i never feel comfortable in dine out situations, often treated terribly. so being able to come into such a nice welcoming environment with WONDERFUL FOOD!! very fresh very tasty! but the staff is reason enough to keep coming, thank you for making us feel included, we'll be coming back :) read more

Service is atrocious. I understand that a restaurant gets busy which means waiting is part of the deal. But competent wait staff can go a long way to easing that inconvenience. Miso soup should come out within 5 minutes of ordering. If you forget and bring the miso 30 minutes later, after the sushi has been delivered, you apologize and comp the miso. The sushi clearly waited around to be delivered, because the rice and fish were the same temperature and the unagi was cold. When food is delivered, any request which must be fulfilled in order for the food to be eaten, is priority . In our instance, we waited and waited and then got up and got our own forks for the teriyaki and spoons for the miso. The reason this isn't a 1 star is that the sushi itself was really good. I'm sure it would have been even better if it hadn't sat around waiting to be delivered. Incompetent wait staff really made this a bad experience. read more

Nice ambiance, very fresh sushi, pretty good selection of sake. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. She was able to explain the menu and the daily special in detail. It was a quiet night with just three other tables in the dining room and the wait for our drinks and courses was just a few minutes. The softshell crab in the appetizer was very tasty although the delicate flavors were overpowered by the tempura coating. The sushi presentation was fine although not exceptional, the portions were above average in size, the rice sticky and well made. The otoro (extra-fatty bluefin tuna belly) was wonderful. The maguro (bluefin tuna) was pretty tasty as well, although a bit less refined and with just a hint of a metallic taste to it. The sake (salmon sushi) was very fresh, buttery and delicate, a delight. We preferred it to the sake toro (king salmon fatty belly) which was very fresh and tasty as well. The unagi was outstanding, served at the perfect temperature off the grill. The bill for the two of us (softshell crab tempura appetizer, two pieces of otoro tuna, six pieces of sake toro, two pieces of magura (bluefin tuna), and six pieces of unagi, plus four small carafes of ginjo and daiginjo sake, including tip, came to $230. read more

You wouldn't guess from the outside, but this is one of the cutest restaurants I've been to! Great decor to look like a Japanese style restaurant. Great staff, very nice and helpful. First time here. First thing I noticed was the nice ambiance - it was nice and relaxing, super friendly staff and some smooth jazz music in the background which i love LOL (music changes at 8pm-close which is HH). We sat on the counter so got to interact with the chefs Robert and Stevan a lot. They are amazing to talk to, we had a good time chatting it up towards the end of our meal! Got lots of apps (chawanmushi, miso soup, ankimo, hamachi collar) as well as one of the sashimi sets and the Robert roll (forgot to take a picture oops lol) - all of which were enjoyable:) What really made the experience memorable though was the lovely service. Just ate here for the first time. Apparently just opened 8 months and a more limited sushi menu than am used to but what they make is very tasty. Talked with all three behind the bar and the menu changes apparently fairly regular so check for updates. Very friendly staff and can likely get an orientation on sumo by the sushi chef. This is a must go sushi stop! Walking into the restaurant and immediately began to relax! Beautiful decor and tables were not too close to one another to be comfortable. The service was top notch! Our waiter was patient with our questions, made good honest suggestions, and our cups never ran out! Dishes were cleared promptly upon finishing the food but we never felt rushed. But enough of all that... the real clincher in this gem is the food! Oh my goodness! Seriously may have found a new favorite sushi roll in the Bobby roll. Good food though the sushi is slightly thin. A full omakase ended up not really being filling. The miso soup was a bit too salty too. The fish on the sushi was pretty good. The fish was decent, but the rice to fish ratio was on the minimal side. For the price, I was expecting higher quality sushi. There are other places around that are similarly priced and gives more fish with each bite. Update: came in on Thursday. A hidden gem, hiding a celebrity from another time. Kazoku, another welcome addition to the ever expanding Edmonds food scene, is located near the center of the Highway 99 International District. It is a must do before its harder to get in. Sushi, under the supervision of master chef Bobby Suetsugu is deftly prepared without the fanciful finishes of aspiring Michelin rooms. But that's not the more interesting story here. Dig a little deeper to find that Bobby is not only a former Sumo wrestler but also was an actor and performer on stage and in film. At 15 years old he was discovered in Seattle and recruited to wrestle as Sumo in Japan. To this day he is the only Sumo living in Washington. Years later he opened Sushiman Restaurant in Issaquah, where I met him, as he juggled phone calls from agents and bookers to turn down or accept roles in commercials and films. After he closed Sushiman he's been around the Seattle sushi scene and beyond. These many days later Bobby slings sushi like Desmond slings Manhattans at Daphne's. Neither are to be missed here in Edmonds. I'm glad Bobby made his way north. We're all better for it. Visit Kazoku and ask him to tell you a story. He has a few to share. They also have some interesting bevs and apps, try the Yuzu Shandy (proprietary recipe) and sushi nachos-sounds weird but it was one of my favorite things I've had there so far. i chose to come here during their happy hour because i was hoping to get a deal for my meal but the menu that they provide for you to write in your order did not include some of the happy hour items. for example they have "5 piece sushi set" and "5 piece sashimi set" listed in their happy hour menu. i interpreted this as any 5 piece sushi set/ any 5 piece sashimi set is the happy hour price, but instead it actually only applies to select sets depending on the day i'm assuming. so we ended up paying a lot more than what was expected. our waitress mentioned the happy hour menu to us but she didn't explain how ordering works, and the process was not intuitive which was upsetting. putting that aside, i really enjoyed this meal. everything was fresh and the presentation was nice. our waitress was super nice and welcoming, i felt very taken care of despite the happy hour menu mix up. the restaurant is decorated to resemble a traditional japanese house which was very cool. we were the only people there when we first arrived but eventually 3 other groups trickled in. the ambiance was very relaxed and calm read more

Popped into Kazoku after an appointment in Edmonds because I was craving Katsu. I was in a sub-par mood, but things turned around quickly as Chef Bobby was very friendly and the shishito peppers appetizer was extremely tasty and satisfying. I ordered the Jason roll and an order of Chicken Katsu. The Jason roll was very good and I wanted more of the shishito peppers. The Katsu completely scratched my itch and it was succulent, crispy, and so good. The salads that came with it were so tasty and I found myself wishing I had more room to keep packing away more food. The restaurant was very clean and nice, and had a good vibe, especially for grabbing lunch. I left feeling happy and I'll find a reason to put myself back in Edmonds when I'm hungry and return for another round of Katsu and peppers and to try some more rolls. read more

Went last week with family and thought it was just okay, I would probably wait for a couple of months to go back to see if they tweaked anything as they're still fairly new. A couple of things: - lots of waiting. Everyone's meal was staggered, Miso soup and the spider roll came out first. Then more waiting and I want to say two more dishes would come out, than we would wait 15-20 minutes for more things and then another 15-20 minutes for the rest. So yah you're not eating together, and it's kind of weird when you're food is there but others aren't, and you're just waiting for a decent amount of time. - I got the 5 piece nigiri with the soba. The waitress said the soba was going to be ready soon, and if we wanted it once it was done or wait for the nigiri. I was confused but said we can receive it once it's done. We got our soba and it wasn't until 20 minutes after we got our sushi. -Soba noodles were overcooked, and the sauce for it was on the sweeter side, wasn't a big fan of it. - It seemed like the sushi came last than anything else which I found strange. The last things that we received were our 5 piece nigiri and someone else's chirashi bowl. - The nigiri already had some wasabi, and I think they didn't need that much on there. I have been here three times.For me, I really enjoy their food. Walking in the door, I see one of my favorites, salmon Kama on the fresh sheet. I know I have order this. The crispy skin and soft salmon make this dish delicious. The sushi chefs and staff all welcome me as I come in. I have a special affection for the older sushi chef. He makes it a point to acknowledge me and watches to see if I enjoy my food. Although I cannot speak Japanese, his facial expressions make me laugh. He is slight awkward in an endearing way, seems like he has not been a waiter for long. Now onto the best part, the food. I was there today for happy hour. Restaurant was fairly empty. Ordered the shrimp rolls off the hh menu and the sashimi. Both were excellent values. Shrimp rolls were lighter and a nice quality for 5.00. The sashimi was excellent quality. I also have tried the sake flight each time I am here. I'm not familiar with sake and the three different types were great to try. I ordered miso soup. Hot and delicious, slightly salty but a nice counterpoint to my meal. Finished off with the salmon Kama. Pretty full from my meal, but the collar was soft, crispy and tasty. Came on a generous bead of greens and a nice dipping sauce. Could not stop eating this. Lunch and happy hour are some great deals for quality seafood.
