We tried the Chicken Kaarage, Stevan Roll, and Sushi Cherished Set! So, so delicious! The Chicken Kaarage was so tender and juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside! The rolls and nigiri were so delicious and fresh! Each piece melted in our mouths, and paired amazingly with the wasabi and soy sauce provided. Absolutely enjoyed the Miso soup that the Sushi Cherished Set came with as well! While we came at a busy dinner time, we were seated immediately and everyone there was super sweet! I went at around 8:30pm on a Friday and was pleasantly surprised that they had happy hour every day from 8:00-10:00! Their happy hour menu includes many appetizers and hand rolls for $1 off. Now the quality of the fish was so incredible. Every piece that we got was fresh and melted in our mouths. The pieces of tuna in the sashimi don were so thick. The nigiri had a perfect ratio of fish to sushi rice, and the chef puts a little bit of wasabi under the fish. The toro definitely was my favorite out of the pieces we got. I also quite liked how in the hand roll there are pieces of fish throughout the cone as well instead of it being just sushi rice. The service was also great. The servers were very friendly and offered good recommendations. They were also very easy to talk to. When watching the sushi chef work he was smiling pretty often and I could tell that he enjoyed doing this. The Homie and I have been searching for a sushi spot since our long time kaiten spot went downhill and other places of interest are a royal pain to get reservations and/or parking. For dinner this evening, we tried Kazoku, located in a strip mall at 22618 & Hwy 99 in Edmonds (8/2/23). The large parking lot is shared with several other businesses and located on a Community Transit bus route. We were immediately greeted and brought to a 4 top in the main dining room, handed menus, and ice water upon request. Nigiri and rolls types and quantity are jotted on an order slip provided. The sushi counter and main dining room was fairly busy when we arrived. The overhead instrumental smooth jazz provided an amusing layer to the existing din. We splurged on the following: *Chicken Karaage ($14). Tasty fried, crisp morsels. Would be nice to have a dipping sauce though. *Tonkatsu ($18) Moist, lightly breaded. Served with pickled vegies, seaweed, and steamed rice. *pair of Negitoro rolls ($11 each) Generous with the fresh hamachi. *O-toro & Hotate nigiri (2 pcs each, $13 & $9, respectively) Fresh, perfect temperature & texture. *8 piece chef's choice Cherished Sushi Set w/California roll and miso soup ($36) Very generous and easily shareable, fresh nigiri selection. Next time I'll scale down to the 6 piece or 5 piece w/soba or udon. This splurge hit all the benchmarks. With tax & tip, dinner was a little over $146. Next time, we'll be more judicious, choose other items of interest from the vast menu, and have hot tea. Friendly, welcoming service. Kudos to the sushi chefs & kitchen staff because items were brought in good time, perfect temperature, and nicely plated. We especially appreciated the quality of the nigiri. Upon inquiry, I was told that they had been open for two weeks. This must of been a turnkey business, because the quality and execution were seamless and came across as well established. Wow! I think we've found our favorite sushi spot on the north end. The entire staff was great. We live the back rooms that felt more private and welcoming family atmosphere. Suimi, the restaurant owner is so kind and welcoming. She came over to check in on us and offered champagne to us to join in on another guests' celebration. It was a lively, cozy environment. That already in itself is so rare nowadays. The food was also delicious. The tuna from the sushi set on the happy hour menu was delicious!!! Not sure if it was toro, but it melted in your mouth. They do have online reservations which I recommend for the busy weekend. It was packed for Sunday Dinner. It's great to have a new Sushi Place north of Seattle - we def don't have enough. The parking is small/busy since shared with a grocery store & other businesses. The fish tasted fresh and the udon was a good portion size. As far as quality/taste I think it's good but not great. I would visit again but it's not my favorite place. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. We continue to come back to Kazoku ever since they opened. We cannot get enough of their amazing food. The sushi is always consistent and fresh. The nigiri pieces are generous for the price that we cannot justify going anywhere else on the regular. Last night I brought my family out to experience Kazoku and they were not disappointed with the food. I got the 10 piece omakase with my sisters going for the beloved and cherished sets. I love that Kazoku uses real snow crab for their California rolls, the quality is so much better than the standard Cali rolls you get at most places. The Otoro melted in our mouths with my sister telling me it was the best piece of sushi she has ever eaten. The other fish was delicious as well. The Unagi Don my little sister shared with her husband was perfectly cooked with the right amount of Unagi sauce. And we all agreed that the agedashi tofu is the perfect appetizer to start a meal with. Do not forget to try the ohitashi spinach either. The peanut sauce that goes with it is something special. The hot food can be slow at times if the kitchen gets slammed as they do not have a lot of grill space. So if you are in a hurry, go with the sushi. My brother in law's kalbi ribs took a long time to come out, but our server kept us apprised and apologized for the delay and we never got the chawanmushi that we ordered. However, the server handled it so well that we were okay and understood what happened. We get that hiccups happen and are more concerned with how they are handled by the staff. We had to take the kalbi to go and my brother in law said it was very good and really enjoyed the sautéd mushrooms and onions that came with the dish. We will continue to come back to experience Chefs Bobby, Robert, Steven and Jason's creations. Keep up the great work and here's to a second year of Kazoku. read more

The cucumber roll wasn't fully rolled, meaning the nori wasn't closed and the ingredients were falling out of the roll. Seemed like they didn't have a skilled sushi chef. The staff were talking amongst themselves in a non-professional way, loud enough for diners to hear. The waiter never checked back to see if the food was okay. go early or make sure you have a reservation. at our 6 pm reservation time, our table for 3 was open and as well as 2 other 4 tops. all other tables were filled and only 2 seats were open at the sushi bar. we ordered the small (24 piece) sashimi omakase and several a la carte nigiris. a la carte: hotate, unagi, ikura, uni, and chu toro. all fish were fresh and beautifully sliced. the servings for uni and ikura gunkan were generous. small sashimi omakase: gorgeous! the beautifully presented omakase had some surpise wakame scattered on the plate along with the shredded daikon. i was very pleased the sashimi omakase did not repeat any of the a la carte items we ordered. miso soup: a tad bit on the salty side tonight. the staff navigated the crowded dining room efficiently and cheerfully inspite of the "private" room filled by 20+ diners for a birthday gathering. it's not inexpensive but worth the quality of the fish and the service. next time i'll arrive even earlier than 6p and sit at the sushi bar. read more

We started with the hamachi kama for an appetizer, it was broiled and seasoned perfectly, so juicy and tender that we wish it were bigger! Then my wife and I both had the omakase sushi dinner, and it was a great selection of ten types of fish, shrimp, and uni. We honestly enjoyed every single one, unlike some other sushi joints where they throw a few things nobody likes. If I had one minor gripe I wish the cuts were thicker. My daughter had two of their rolls which were generous sized and also highly enjoyed. Service was attentive, friendly, and welcoming. I've been here twice now and feel I can give a fair review. The first time was for happy hour and the second time was for an early dinner with family. Both experiences left much to be desired. The quality of the food isn't in question but more so the service, timing, pricing etc... I ordered yellowtail sashimi and they were measly pieces of fish and wasn't the freshest I've had. Also, the pricing seems a bit all over the place. Some things are priced fairly and others are just crazy expensive. I would recommend reviewing and re-pricing their menu. Secondly they seem to have issues with timing of food orders as my sister and dad's katsudon orders were served about 40 mins after everyone else's food came out and they were hungry, waiting and by the time it came didn't want it. Rather than taking the dishes off the bill they chose to give us a 10% discount. No manager to come by and apologize or makeup for it and our bill was well over $300. Quite disappointing to spend that kind of coin and not have the service you expect. So they took home hot katsudon bowls that became soggy and gross. read more

I got a Yelp notification about this new Japanese restaurant, so I decided to give this place a try. Came to notice that it was the Sushi Moto location. Sushi Moto did not have the best value, so I was excited to this restaurant a try. When we walked in, we were greeted by the lady behind the counter, thinking that she was the hostess, so we walked towards her. Then we were greeted by another staff, who was apparently the hostess, so that was a little confusing. We ordered the 5 pc sushi with zaru Soba, ton katsu, tempura udon, spider roll and katsu don. The first dish that came to us was the 5 pc sushi, but the zaru Soba didn't come with it. We waited for 15 mins, then the katsu and zaru sobas, spider roll and the tempura came, but this time the udon didn't come with the tempura, so we waited another 5 mins for it. The dishes didn't come together, and the sushi was treated like an appetizer. The service overall was good. The hostess situation was a little confusing. The sushi chef was energetic. The hostess was talking with another table for a while, I can see they are trying hard for customer service. The food in general was ok. The good, katsu Don, spider roll, zaru soba. The ok, ton katsu, tempura and udon. Katsudon was flavorful and the sauce in the rice was very tasty. The Spider roll was very well done. The rice was warm and tender and the crab was tasty. Zaru Soba with the sauce was very tasty. Ton katu on the other hand was a little overcooked, as can be seen by the color in the photo. The tempura was average, and the udon was average too. Overall, the value was ok. $13 for the spider roll was ok. $16 for the katsu don was good. $20 for tempura udon was kinda on the high side, $18 may be more reasonable, same as ton katsu, $16-17 may be more reasonable. $29 for 5 pcs sushi and Soba was not very good in value. Interior was neat and clean. Much better than when it was Sushi Moto. I will come back for their regular rolls and happy hour after 8pm daily for good value and I'll also come back for their katsu don. If the value is better, I'll give it a 4 star. If they can get their kitchen to work properly, and food more tasty, I'll give them a 5. read more

Moved to Seattle 4 months ago and was nervous to try a new sushi place since I am so loyal to my regular spots in NY and CA and didn't want to be disappointed. Well I was wrong! While exquisite, I don't prefer places like Blue Ribbon or Nobu blah blah blah. I am all for the more cozy spots, fancy enough to treat yourself, but not break the bank - and a place where a reservation isn't always necessary. I had the one of the best dining experiences in Seattle at Kazoku and I feel like I must spread the word! My partner and I had a reservation, but arrived about 20 min early, and they graciously seated us at a roomy table in an almost private corner (like a Koshitsu) that felt like only a reservation months in advance and a large deposit could get you. We were so well cared for and perfectly attended to. Everyone we spoke with was warm and welcoming. The decor was tastefully done, authentic, minimal but effective, leaving the space bright and airy. I respect those who really commit to the wood. I'm sure this isn't a regular thing, but the music they had playing this Friday night was so fun and lively, think "Lo-Fi Beats to Study To" with a mix of "89.5 -- Seattle's home to dance". With this playlist, I was ready to throw money down. Got the tempura appetizer, miso soup, (always), and a bounty of rolls - I cannot believe how amazing everything was and the fish was melting-in-my-mouth delicious. I was a waitress at a classic, cozy, and well loved Japanese restaurant in a coastal CA town and it was a place I was proud to work at, addicted to the food (literally couldn't wait for my post shift meal prepared by the daughter of the owner), had fallen in love with the family that ran it, and was completely heartbroken when the matriarch / owner retired and decided to close. A friend and I had a favorite sushi place that we "supported" which closed after many years. We were in search of another sushi restaurant that we love and patronize and decided to try Kazoku. They did not have tako (my friend's favorite) and the sushi was quite average preparation, slices of fish uneven, that kind of thing. The taste was okay to good, but not the eye-rolling sublime we search for. The restroom had nearly been destroyed with toilet paper strewn all over and no paper hand towels.
