I love this place! They have quick service, barley tea + kimchi, and heartwarming seollongtang. I appreciate that they have meat options. I usually get the flank meats and mixed meats for a dollar extra so I can have all of the meats! I recommend putting a LOT of seasoning - all of the green onion, a couple spoonfuls of salt and pepper, and some kimchi to spice it up. Also comes with a bowl of rice and some chopped green onions. You are supposed to mix in the onions and add salt/pepper on your own. It's a like the other seolleongtang I've had before, very hearty and almost creamy bone soup flavor. There's thin slices of beef in the soup. I've been craving Seolleong-Tang or Ox Bone Soup all through the winter and when I met up with a friend for lunch, I knew exactly where I wanted to go and it did not disappoint. Traditional Korean Beef Soup in Edmonds is the perfect spot on a cold day. This restaurant had other options including bulgogi, bibim bap, sundubu jjigae, and other soups/stews. However, for your first time, you're really here for the seolleong-tang. I got mine with everything, which included flank steak, tripe, and knee cartilage. You can also get it with beef tongue too. I got mine with vermicelli noodles and the meal also comes with purple rice, and refillable kimchi. I love their radish kimchi and I definitely asked for seconds. As for the soup, the seolleong-tang comes unseasoned, so there's salt at the table for you to add to your desire. There's also green onions to add to it as well. If you're really hungry, I would also order the mandu or handmade pork dumplings to go with your meal. It could be a lot for one person, because the dumplings come in eight per order, but if you're sharing, it's perfect. This place is a no frills restaurant. I came on a Sunday at lunch and the place was packed but the counters on the side were all open and available. In the unbeknownst strip mall, with the most generic restaurant name, comes a solid fix especially on a cold fall/winter day. Traditional Korean Beef Soup is exactly that - what my people call sullungtang. Beef bone soup that's been boiled to a creamy richness, slices of tender, thing beef cuts, noodles, and dump in a bunch of green onions and you're set. Add salt to taste (don't eat without seasoning). And they do it right. Their menu isn't huge, and in fact, I don't think I'd recommend anything else (including the dumplings) but the reason to go here is for the sullungtang. And kimchi and ggattugi (radish kimchi). Service has always been friendly although they do get overrun at times. In fact, they seem like a small family operation and I felt very welcomed always. And it can be a little slower but nothing too crazy. And the location is small. Maybe 8 tables and the bar on the side. But if you have the time, the turn around is pretty quick. Thanks to a recommendation from a friend, we tried Traditional Korean Beef Soup for the first time. The food is excellent! (This location is Edmonds; there's one in Federal Way too.) The little plaza is just south of the large plaza where 99 Ranch is located. We ordered in person (mid afternoon on Sunday before dinner rush). The wait is just 10 min, so we just stayed. The lady at the front day was blunt but kind enough. It didn't bother me. Packaging: They did an IMPECCABLE job packing the to-go order with a heaping amount of rice, rice noodles packed separately, generous containers of kimchee cabbage and kimchee radishes, a little container packed full of chopped green onions, and tiny containers of salt flakes and hot sauce. Food: Ox Bone Soup with Flank plus the option of rice noodles - 5 Stars The bone broth is gelatinously wonderful (when cool, not when it's warm/hot). I ate this days later, not day of purchase. I poured the soup contents into a pot, but took out the flank pieces, heating the soup to a bubbling boil. Then I added the flank back in to warm the meat pieces without overcooking, and added in some of the salt and hot sauce for extra flavoring. Poured everything out into a big bowl and sprinkled in the green onions on the outer rim. Tada - restaurant quality! It was perfection. Seafood Tofu soup - 5 Stars The seafood tofu soup was particularly flavorful. It has some baby shrimps, mussels, and plenty of little pieces of squid. I heated all the soup contents together, then added the green onions at the end. Also perfectly reheated. Takeout soups are just the best!! Food was tasty and plentiful. Prices are excellent. We were excited to get some hot soup on a chilly morning but as soon as soup arrived I couldn't stand the gamy meat smell. The broth was not thick or savior at all and most of meat pieces had that gamy taste as well. For a traditional beef soup place, I expect kimchi to be amazing but it was really sweet and mediocre. We also got mixed boiled beef thing for $35-36 (I can't remember exactly). Also ordered some handmade dumplings. Beef soup: as expected, super hot and boiling. Took forever to cool down but this is the way it is supposed to be! But the noodles were a bit soggy. Maybe boiled too long inside... Soup broth was good tho, much better than before. They didn't charge for a second set of green onions for soup (I think) which was a plus (they used to charge it). Boiled mixed beef: some tendons, beef tongue, and couple others. Asked for it without tripe. Was hot when it came out and was pretty tasty. I even ate beef tongue without knowing it was beef tongue. But honestly for the price, I feel like the plate was too small... I expected a fuller plate but got a medium size plate with some beef on it. Hmmm won't be ordering this dish again. Handmade dumplings: this like the others rose in price and the quantity decreased. I think they used to give more but now, you get like 9 dumplings for $15... again not sure if this is worth it. The ox knee soup + chicken stew (samgaetang) was the best choice we could've made for a post Korean spa session. I dumped the entire bowl of green onions and seasoned the soup with salt to my liking. There were big pieces in the soup, some softer than others, which is what I prefer. The chicken stew was advertised on the walls and other yelpers liked it so I decided to go for it. The poached chicken came in a pot of mild gingery broth. Delicious. I pulled apart the chicken and dipped it in, alternating between the ponzu-wasabi sauce and this salt-sesame seed mix.
