Creamy Ramen
Rebecca W.

Bougie ramen in Beverly Hills? An incredible LA experience, especially on my birthday! Kazan means "volcano" in Japanese, and it was very cute because all the bowls looked like little mt fujis, and the theme was very apparent throughout the restaurant! It's no wonder this place racked up so many Michelin Gourmet recognitions over the years. This is ramen reimagined, but still retaining a sense of authenticity. Their most popular item on the menu is their Creamy Fusion Ramen. So that's of course what I got. The noodles were thick and flat, reminded me of egg noodle pasta actually! Perfectly chewy, al dente, great texture. It came with 3 slices of chashu pork, that were seasoned perfectly. Also 2 wontons, that I wasn't a huge fan of. But man that sauce was dank! So creamy, yet light!! Bursting with flavor. We also ordered this Wagyu Sando, that I can't seem to find on the website menu to confirm. But it came with 4 pieces and was pretty good. I think the spice covered the flavor a bit, but I enjoyed it! Staff was very friendly and attentive. Interior was sleek, clean, and very chic. Wouldn't have expected less from a stylish ramen joint in Beverly Hills. Valet parking for $12.

On the pricier side for Ramen, but so worth it! Not to mention Michelin awards and fresh made noodles? We found some metered street parking and arrived right when they opened. The restaurant isn't too big - maybe about 25 seats indoors? Service was great and the waiter was really friendly and attentive. What we ordered: Shrimp Tempura - (5/5) The most airy, shrimp cooked to perfection! It came with 3 dipping sauces - which were a little spicy, but paired really well with the shrimp. Wagyu Sando - (5/5) So so good! The bread was buttery and crispy, wagyu beef was mixed with cheese and jalapeños, onion and a special sauce. Highly recommend ordering this! Signature #1 Ramen - The broth is soy-based with a hint of truffle. It tasted really clean and smooth. Paired with the homemade wontons and pork chashu, it made the perfect combo. Overall, I loved what we ordered. There is an array of items on their menu worth trying, and I know I'll be back soon. Enjoy!

Street parking or valet at the adjacent business next door ( do keep in mind their hours of operation) My second time here and won't be the last . But first I need to save $$ to enjoy their outstanding ramen meal at this Consecutive 4 years Michelin Star restaurant. Kazan is small I recommend groups of 6 or more it is best to call ahead . Their outdoor seatings definitely can accommodate bigger crowds. It is on a bit pricier side than some of the other ramen places I been too. Needless to say I can justify the price point . Their Fresh hand made noodles were the most tastiest I ever had. Chewy al dente cooked to perfection. Sopped in the rich Lei ramen broth is worthy of a loud slurp . My only complaint , the broth was a tad too salty . My friend and I had the ramen with the delicious lamb shanks .

Welcoming vibe and welcoming owner, which definitely added a nice personal touch to the experience. Yes, it has a Michelin star, so expectations were high going in. The food was good, but for me, the broth was a little too salty, which took away from enjoying it fully. Nothing was bad, just not something that really stood out enough to make me want to go out of my way to come back. I'm glad I tried it and can appreciate the quality and recognition, but it's probably more of a one-time experience for me rather than a repeat spot.

Kazan Beverly Hills is a Michelin Bib Gourmand recognized place featuring fresh ramen noodles made from-scratch every day. The chef is passionate about quality. Good luck with street parking - it can be tough finding an open spot. For the food: The Signature #1 is delicious! Every component has meticulous attention to detail. The thin ramen noodles is perfectly al dente. The broth is clear and flavorful. The homemade wontons and chashu are tender and juicy. There was a $10 ramen promo and I knew I had to head over and try their ramen. It was definitely worth the promo, but $34 is a bit steep even for a premium bowl of ramen.

My husband and I were craving some ramen in this rainy weather and happened to be in the LA area, so we finally got to check this place out. We were seated right away after walking in. We ended up getting the chashu supreme, lei ramen, and pork chashu rice. After trying everything out, my favorite was the chashu supreme--it had the truffle flavor which definitely made it very unique. The pork chashu rice was also a hit, very flavorful! As for the lei ramen--it had a hint of spice and is very rich. I did love the thin noodles they use! The ramen prices were bit on the pricey side since they are located in Beverly Hills and have been rated Michelin from 2021-2024. Would recommend if you feel like splurging a little for dinner and are willing to try something new.

Wonderful Al fresco experience at Michelin starred restaurant. Visiting during restaurant week in LA with friends. The participating restaurants feature their dishes in a cohesive menu. Welcoming attentive service from all the staff. Quaint interior with low top seating. Sake was one of my favorites. Served nice and chilled just perfect. The noodles are so deliciously fresh and perfectly thin it's a must try. The Tsukemen Ise was a touch too salty for me but noodles helped to balance it out. The saucy gravy was unctuous in flavor, reminding me of an elevated beef stroganoff with a Demi glacé depth and velvety noodles. The combination of flavors are delectable. Street parking available at 6pm. There's a small valet parking lot right next to the restaurant for $15 open for Kazan and surrounding restaurants. Make sure to check the closing time.

Chashu ramen

I stoppex in for lunch and ordered the chashu ramen. The noodles are perfectly cooked, the egg with a deliciously warm soft center, and the broth fragrant with the truffle. The chashu is tender and falls apart with some gentle encragement. The broth has a mild heat (that you can avoid by avoiding the rare circles of cut red peppers floating in the broth). Everything is made in house. The broth was a tad on the oily side. And the prices are steep. My total ended up being $50 (including tip) for my bowl of ramen. Of note, they do add on an "appreciation" to the bill.

Just wrapped up an impromptu dinner here. My son and I were in the area. It was rush hour and we decided to have dinner while traffic died out. Their noodle station is cool and the vibes are casual. Their ramen/food is definitely worth trying out. We tried the #9 and the chicken wings both of which were flavorful. I'm knocking 2 stars off because I'm dealing with a very disappointed 6 yr old. I ordered an extra order of their wings ToGo because my son really enjoyed the carrot slaw it comes with. But to my surprise when I got home it came with no carrot salad. I had even mentioned to the waitress how excited my son was to eat the carrot slaw for his lunch at school. Don't understand why she didn't let me know they don't add the salad for ToGo orders. If you dine in you're in for a delicious experience. If you do take out I would suggest you call and confirm everything that is pictured and usually comes with "in person dining" is provided.

Ambiance: Pretty casual place - it is small in there. I liked that you could see where they make the noodles. Service: our server was really nice. Considering he was the only one the day we went for lunch, he was fast too. Food: we got a wagyu slider as an app. this was delicious. it came with a jalepeno sauce that the restaurant makes & it elevated the dish. we ended up buying the sauce. my friend & i both got ramen & it was amazing. i'm typically not a broth person but it was so good that i kept wanting more. it wasn't heavy surprisingly and the flavors of the meat & egg were good. definitely am recommending this place to people!

Stumbled into this amazing ramen while picking up some purchases locally. Wow cannot believe I didn't hear about this hidden gem before. First of all this place has been on the Michelin guide for past four years. Second, all noodles are house made and you can see the display of the masterpiece being made as you're slurping away. I decided to go for their fan favorite, "Lamb in Lava" ramen, which is a chicken broth based spicy (x3 levels ) ramen dish with a swift of cilantro for the herbal hint which I love. They used a mixed thin and thick noodles which perfectly absorbs the broth. To be honest I had a lot of broth left over. Wondering now if I could have ordered extra noodles to add to the dish. Seriously a must try. Please note this ramen is on the pricier side... a whopping $65. The server also mentioned their signature dish which is also a chicken broth ramen but this one apparently also has truffle in it. Curious to try it next time when I'm out here. If you guys try it please let me know

No compromises. That's really the kind of ethos needed, for a ramen shop that opened during the Black Plague year for businesses that is 2020, that can continue to fight, stay open, and earn Michelin awards year after year after year. Especially on a street of cut throat leasing rent prices on a street shared with the legendary Matsuhisa (the flagship of Nobu Matsuhisa's restaurants, an empire which helped Iron Chef Japan Sandaime, Masaharu Morimoto, his major foothold into the culinary world). That said, no compromises also means that isn't a place that the average person can appreciate; not the kind of person that rates food by their wallet, as opposed to skill, quality, and what is on the plate a la the Michelin Guide. In very much the same way the average person wouldn't appreciate one man's vision of a car: like Gordon Murray's Mclaren F1, Horacio Pagani's Zonda, or Christian von Koenigsegg's Jesko. Multi-million dollar automobiles that deliver exhilarating experiences, built with no-compromise to parts and components. It's that integrity to ideal, which led ramen Chef Ryu to separate ways with his previous ties to Tatsu Ramen. To not skimp on sourcing of ideal ingredients to chase profits using cheap, compromised, or faulty quality foods. The sheer ki/qi/prana, life force brimming with energy, is undeniable for those of you that can sense and feel it. Much of the ingredients have to be imported from Japan. While every noodle is made by his own hands, with different noodle styles to match different broths. To say the least of quality, bamboo chopsticks so prized as a clean, natural material that will not leach or influence the flavor of the broth upon contact. I rate it 5-stars, but I cannot promise you that you'll like this style of ramen anymore that I can promise to someone who's lived off of Taco Bell or Del Taco that they'll love Holbox or Guisados. Any snob claiming to lament this isn't "real Japanese ramen" is ignorant to the fact of the numerous regional variations of ramen that evolved like Pokemon from the "cultural appropriation" of Chinese la-mien out of Yokohama's Chinatown. I can only say that there have not been very many places, where even the side vegetables on an appetizer plate of chicken wings gets treated with the kind of respect and dignity for its inherent flavors, in a kaiseki kind of tradition. I've had the #2 (shio/salt base), #3 creamy (tonkotsu style?), and lei ramen. I've devoured every last bit and licked up every last drop on the bowl. Each bowl, with its own sense of luxury, elegance, and balance, all tied together with what I consider the one of the loveliest hand-made noodles in southern California. Wagyu cattle as a whole gets a lot of hype. But just know, it is inherently rich with tallow, which really makes wagyu, wagyu. The carpaccio is that costly for a reason, so think twice if your gallbladder is healthy enough to release enough bile to emulsify the richness. But that golden, melted tallow accented with sliced negi is savory sensuous ambrosia for the palate for every bite of tender beef. Yes, you could easily get a steak or 2 from Texas Roadhouse, but this isn't that kind of dish. This is the world of caviar wishes and champagne dreams. Our whole table easily wipes up the holy wagyu residue with other sides the way Italians scarpetta a saucy plate. Lick up every last piece, every last drop. Owner/Chef Ryu has really had to fight to keep going, an immigrant who's family thought lowly of ramen as a business, and would prefer he got a stable salaryman job. Very cool, down to Earth, and just very honored to shake his hand and engage in a conversation with him. Without saying too much, Ryu is a man that definitely has had his share of ups-and-downs, experiencing the kind of life story you'd see on Netflix Chef's Table or a seinen manga.

Michelin star/guide ramen house at Beverly hills. We came here during lunch time and it was not busy. The interior is unique with open kitchen concept where you can see they prepare your order. They have indoor and outdoor seating and looks like the make the noodle in the restaurant. The menu is simple. We ordered lamb lava ramen, supreme charsiu ramen or lei ramen, sake clam and fried lotus root. The sake clam was yummy and the clam was fresh. The lotus root is crunchy. The lamb is tender and the noodle kind of similar to chinese noodle soup. If I am not musraken it has peppercorn. Everything is yummy except the ramen soup is bit salty. I just recently been told that we should be able to tell them to reduce the saltiness when we order. It was nice lunch with family.

When the food came out, my friend was on the phone outside, so when they put the ramen in front of me, I waited a few minutes, then started eating. When he got inside, he realized I had ate his dish and that mine was in front of him. He asked for a new one and they said they would get it, but then said they wouldn't, but then said they would. Anyways, due to the mishap and misunderstanding, I got to try both ramens!!! The vegan broth is phenomenal. It's made out of soybean and tastes really comforting. I wish the vegan ramen gave you the option of having the regular ingredients, but they go heavy with different vegetables on top of it. When added with an egg, charsu and bamboo, it's not too bad though. The spicy miso broth was just ok. It was really light in flavor. I actually ate this one first and was like wow this vegan broth is a disappointment. But it wasn't the vegan broth, it was the regular broth! Once you get to the spice though, the flavor gets better. I do like the toppings it comes with though. In an ideal world, I would recommend the vegan broth with the regular toppings. It might cost a little more to substitute everything back in, but it's the best option in my opinion. Overall, the service was good. The error was resolved and we both got to eat. I hear normally they say what ramen is which when they bring it to the table, but I guess they just didn't do that this time around. It's not a big deal on my end, but I also was not the one who had to wait longer to eat, so I guess that's debatable. The ambiance is cool. Super busy. Will probably be here again for the vegan broth!

I was afraid that everything was going to be extremely heavy, like French cuisine can be with all the cheese and butter. But I ordered the Combo of the Lemon Butter Chicken Ramen and a side of the Miso Teri Bowl (in case the ramen would be too much for me), and I was blown away by both dishes. The Lemon Butter is NOT heavy at all. It felt light and savory, but had a depth of flavor that's hard to identify because this is a dish I have never had anywhere else before. I can see why it's the most popular item on the menu. I took the side of Miso Teri Bowl home for dinner as the ramen was filling enough. There's a hint of wasabi in the dressing they drizzle over the shredded green onions that elevate this dish from other Teriyaki Chicken bowls I've had. Just DELICIOUS. I'd come back to Tonsho just for this rice bowl. My friend got the Dan Dan Ramen which he said blew his mind. He was surprised by the lightness of the broth, which is unlike the Chinese Dan Dan which is usually made of heavy creamy sesame paste. He actually drank most of the broth, and didn't feel like he was cheating on his diet. Additionally, the design of the restaurant, from the layout to the choice of bowls and utensils reminded me of a certain 2-Michelin Star restaurant in Culver City. The service was bar none. The waitress was attentive and thoughtful, even getting us a glass of water after we had been sitting there for another hour after paying our check. We never felt rushed or pushed out. Five stars, period. Coming back for more.

It felt like one of those slow, cozy days where time doesn't rush you…read more I met up with my college friend after what felt like forever, and somehow we both landed on the same craving--ramen. No debate, no hesitation. Just ramen. I had tried this spot at another location before and remembered liking it, so it felt like a safe, comforting choice for a long overdue catch-up. We got there at that in-between hour... not quite lunch, not quite dinner. The kind of time where the restaurant feels like it's just exhaling. It was completely empty except for us, which honestly made everything feel a little more intimate--like the space was ours for the afternoon. We sat down and immediately slipped into conversation, picking up right where we left off after graduation. Life updates, little wins, quiet struggles... the kind of conversation that only comes easy with people who've known you for years. And in between all that, our mouths were busy. The ramen came out hot, comforting, and exactly what we needed. Rich broth, satisfying noodles--one of those meals where you don't even realize how hungry you were until you take the first bite. We kept pausing mid-sentence just to take another bite, then laughing because we couldn't decide what deserved more attention: the food or the conversation. Service was really attentive without being intrusive. They somehow knew when to check in and when to let us just exist in our little bubble. The music was soft, not overpowering, so we never had to raise our voices or repeat ourselves--something I appreciate more and more these days. We stayed longer than we probably planned, but it didn't feel rushed at all. Just two old friends, warm bowls of ramen, and a space that let us slow down for a bit. Definitely one of those simple meals that turns into a really good memory.

For the main deal, I opted for the yuzu shoyu ramen. The bowl is put-together aesthetically, and it has flavorful components. I just couldn't get over this weird sensation coming from the yuzu.
