Small sit-down place, but fun, helpful staff. I had called before our reservation to check the wait time and Brian put a huge smile on my face with his jokes. Food was also delicious- had the cheeky chicken ramen and hippie ramen. Chicken is a thicker broth and hippie is a vegan thinner and lighter broth.

This is hands down our favorite ramen spot and believe me, we try a lot of them! I'm a simple girl and always order the Bold Ramen (no egg or scallions) then add in corn and more crispy fried onions. Add a little spice, and I'm one happy girl!

So I'm not gonna give an A+ on service since I have to order from a Kiosk .. I'm going to give an A+ on how quickly the food came out the taste of the broth , fine fresh noodles and quality . It's def not the quality or price I get in Japan but I'll give it a thumbs up . The cost for red ramen and bold ramen w two Sapporos came to 65.90 w/o gratuity. Overall I'll give it a 4.5 There are three 2 tips and one 4 top inside along w 12 seats for the ramen bar seating , with a few outdoor tables . If you're coming at night. Expect an hour wait but we came for lunch and there was zero wait . OVERALL SCORE 4.7

Came here on President's day with my daughter before dropping her off at school. Parking is tight so we parked a few blocks away and walked through the rain. We both got the bold ramen, I got it with chicken and she got it with pork. It was very rich and comforting for this rainy afternoon. The chicken was very lean and the egg was flavorful and cooked to perfection. I love the garlic and green onions in it. The noodles were really yummy and this was overall just a great bowl of ramen! The restaurant itself is very small with lots of bar seating and a little bit of table seating. They have great music on that's not too loud. Service is not particularly friendly and you won't see any of the staff go out of there way to make you feel welcomed and comfortable. The restaurant could be more clean and organized, the bathroom was not very clean either. I do hope they make improvements in those areas since the food is so good.

January 29 & Feb 4, 2026 | After attending an event at the Disney Concert Hall, my friend, and I met up with another friend, as we were all craving a bite to eat! We all agreed on Tatsu Ramen at Sawtelle Centre! What an absolutely delicious find! So memorable that my best friend and I met up & returned today! 1st Visit | Hippie Ramen | Haha! Cute name! The broth is one of a kind, never tasted anything like it! Curly noodles, mixed in with the house made scallion oil with a bit of ginger... Incredible! I also added tofu as my protein! You know the food is good when everyone at the table is so busy eating instead of much talking! Hahaha! When we did talk, we talked about returning and how flavorful all three dishes were!! 2nd Visit | Hippie Ramen w/cheese | The ramen was even better the second time! The menu said in Japan, cheese is added, so I had to try it! Once again, absolutely delicious! With or without cheese, it's just flavor upon flavor! Parking | Free & shared with nearby shops/restaurants! Atmosphere | Very chill and down to earth! On my second visit, I got to play with the cutest little bulldogs at the outside/sidewalk tables! They were so adorable & the honor was so nice! One is called Cupcake & the other was brand new, so it doesn't have a name yet! Customer Service | Friendly! You actually order outside at the kiosks! Martin helped us the first time and was our server, super nice! Thanks again! When we returned, friendly service once again! Popular | On both visits, this place was quite busy both inside, outside, as well as orders to go! Overall | Absolutely yes! I absolutely love this place! The memorable flavor clearly had us coming back for more! I'm looking forward to returning!

The ramen had a clean, traditional flavor that reminded me of the ramen I had at a small mom-and-pop shop in Tokyo. The staff were pleasant and attentive too!!!

A chain ramen restaurant in LA. We found this while looking for place to have ramen. We came during lunch and it was not busy. Interior is nicely designed. It was well organized. You ordered from touch screen kiosk. There are plenty items in the menu and they have couple of ramen option. the one caught my attention is the Birria Ramen. I heard about it but never have it before so we ordered Birria ramen, Bold Ramen and charsiu with rice. Our order was ready pretty quickly. The Birria ramen is unique as it was yummy. As I had Birria before so I can tell it tased the same for the ramen. The bold ramen is also yummy. Charsiu rice is a kind like side order as it is a smaller size with charsiu on the rice in small bowl. It was interesting experience and I can tell people I had Birria ramen before. :).

Just okay. Quality has definitely gone down over the years. Service was not the best, a server tried to gaslight me into saying I had ordered the wrong meat (they gave me tofu) when my receipt showed something else (I had ordered pork, which is what I wanted.) He angrily took it back once he noticed his mistake but it was very uncomfortable. Location wasn't the cleanest, but there is ample parking so it's more of a pick up type of vibe.

Tatsu Ramen is always a solid go-to when I'm craving a comforting bowl of ramen. The service is quick and efficient, with staff keeping things moving even during busy hours, and the ordering system makes it easy to customize your bowl exactly how you like it. Just a heads up: there might be a line to be seated during peak hours (weekend nights). The ambiance is casual and lively, perfect for a quick meal or a laid-back catch-up with friends. We usually get the Cheeky Ramen or the Bold Ramen. The ramen itself is rich and flavorful--the broth is deeply satisfying, noodles have a great texture, and the toppings are fresh and well-balanced. The egg is perfectly cooked - the yolk is juicy but I missed it when the corn was free. It's now a little pricier than other ramen spots when you decide to add more toppings. Tatsu is the kind of spot that consistently hits the spot and keeps you coming back.

I used to frequent this location back when I was in college and the food is still as delicious as I remembered it being. Ordering and getting seating is efficient using a tablet, especially given the limited seating and how busy it gets here. Service was prompt and straightforward. Parking is usually fine on a weekday but is next to impossible on the weekends since the area gets inundated with students from the surrounding universities. The big draw for me here is how late they stay open (up to 1:00am most nights and up to 2:00am on Saturdays), as well as their Naked Ramen. This was my first introduction to mazemen-style noodles years ago, and will always make this place a favorite for me. They also have really fun drink options- definitely try out the Sparkling Yuzu White Peach and Sparkling Oolong Tea with lychee. - Ambiance: 4/5 - Food: 4/5 - Service: 4/5

Confused why this place doesn't have 5 stars. We arrived with no reservation around midnight, we were a little confused as to how the seating goes and ordering since there were two kiosks outside the restaurant. You order at the kiosk , let the hostess know you ordered and your name. They seat you and bring you your order. I ordered the bold ramen - they have gluten free option, with chicken and you can also customize if you want. The ramen is thin noddle which I love, what I loved the most was the broth Woaaaah!! They truly took the town for best ramen in LA. I also got the spicy edamame FIRE! And the Moshi Peach Yozu lemonade was so delicious. Overall great experience, friendly hostess wh

Came here late night on a Friday night and they were busy! Luckily we got seated pretty quickly after checking in with the host. Interesting sequence of events because then we ordered on their digital ordering system placed outside of their shop and then was seated. Got their red ramen, old skool ramen, and pork chashu bowl. Ramen came out very hot, great flavor, noodles were perfectly cooked (on the softer side, my preference). Red ramen I thought would be spicy but it wasn't to me. Chashu was tender and lots of volume but it's on the sweeter side. I prefer saltier, more soy flavor so it's not my thing. But definitely filling. It wasn't one of the few places open late at night around there so it was a perfect spot to grub.

TLDR: It's hard not to compare when eating ramen from independent shops with chains. I feel that this place mimics the taste profile of Ippudo with a hint of Silverlake ramen. It's worth the visit, then you just go from there. Old Skool Ramen: Thin noodle, sizable chashu, wood ear mushrooms, and a smooth tonkotsu broth. It's a well balanced bowl of ramen that doesn't have too much of a thing. The noodle portion was good, the chashu was flavorful and chewy, and the mushroom offers a break through it all. The broth is silky, salty, but surprisingly not too oily. The egg isn't included, so you'll have to order that as an extra. Service: It's straightforward. You order via iPad outside the establishment. You are seated. You're given the food and the occasional water refill. Ambiance: It's a classic ramen restaurant with a bar for solo diners and enough tables to seat 15. Outside seating is available for groups of 6.

This place is listed today as having outdoor seating. Is it still available? If it is, is it covered or heated? How many people can sit there? / April 10, 2023

Yes it does have outdoor seating. It is covered and I believe has heating. It depends how busy it is, I've been there when there's only room for a few people outside and when you could fit a whole 20 person party outside!

Are the broths all gluten free?

Most have the OPTION to be ordered Gluten Free

    Do they accept Apple Pay?

No its a self service kiosk and I tried it last time but id didn't went thru

    Do you guys do reservations?

    No they do not

    Do they accept Apple Pay?

    Duplicate question.

What type of tare is it in the bold tonkotsu ramen? And also, what type of dairy? Can it be dairy-free- what ingredients has to be removed in that case?

Spell words right and ask again.

    Is there outside seating?

    Yes!

Is there any word when they will possibly open up for dining in?

    No word at all.

How can I use a gift card while ordering online?

Is Tatsu open for dining in or only take out orders?

Currently take out only with ordering on the ipad out front like before. But you can order through Yelp and either pick up/delivery with no wait.

I get that the noodles r gluten free, but is the broth?

Learn to spell and ask again.

    Do they have gift cards?

Yes! You can buy them on the iPads in front.

    Anything gluten free?

Yes, they have gluten free noodles for an extra $6

All the workers answered my questions and even as the dinner rush came in, I never felt like I was pressured to hurry up. Huge kudos to them for this. There are lots of places to get ramen in Little Tokyo and I have my go to places, but now that so many other ramen places are popping up in the 626, the daunting task of driving to DTLA and finding parking have also factored into my decision to wander out. But as a J-fashion and anime fan, I'm just constantly thrown back into the Little Tokyo vortex. For this recent visit, I remember my friend hyping up the Anaheim Rakkan Ramen, so I thought why not? Came a bit later into the dinner rush, around 6-something PM and was seated immediately as a solo diner on a Friday night. It started to get a bit busier around the time I was finishing up. Seating is a bit tight inside with a couple of tables, counter bar seating, but they do have outdoors seating as well. Food came out efficiently and super piping hot. For my dinner, I got the: 1) Coffee Jelly: -One of my favorite, comforting Japanese desserts. If a bakery has it, I'll order it, and I felt a bit indulgent so I ordered it then. Staff asked if I wanted to have it at the end or just have it come out ASAP. I said ASAP and it was a good palate cleanser between the savory and sweet so I didn't get tired of the flavor. Not a super huge amount of coffee jelly (but makes sense since this is a restaurant and not a to go ordering counter at a bakery), but it was silky and had a good coffee flavor to it. You get a small "shot" of heavy cream milk to mix in and you can control how sweet you want it. Not bad. 2) Ramen Sushi Combo (Spicy Quartz Ramen + Aburi Salmon): -This comes with any signature ramen and any 2 pieces of sushi (extra fee for any upgrades) -I got their spicy quartz ramen, which is their creamy miso broth ramen made with your choice of chicken or pork chashu (I got pork), crispy fried garlic, seasoned egg, fried broccolini, and 2 pieces of nori. -There's LOTS of crispy fried garlic pieces in it. Every bite has a slight garlic after taste and it's nice to add a bit of crunchy texture to the ramen. -The broccolini is unique, I don't think I've ever had that with a ramen before and it's nice to have some greens too. - It's a seasoned egg, not a soft boiled egg, so don't expect that. It's not hard boiled all the way, but the flavor wasn't super strong for the egg. Not bad, but not the best. -The noodles are thicker egg noodles that had a nice chew and texture to it. However, the broth flavor wasn't that strong to me? If that makes sense. You get a good taste of creamy miso and a very slight kick, but I felt like the 2 small pieces of chashu and noodles didn't really take the flavor of the broth that well. Maybe I should have left my bowl of ramen soaking longer to get a better taste profile? Who knows. 3) Aburi Salmon (2 pieces): -I chose this with my combo and it doesn't incur an extra free. It's a seared salmon with mayo on top. -Not bad. Can never go wrong with aburi salmon. It's comparable to what you can get from Kura. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing or maybe my taste buds have been blasted by ramen spots with heavier, flavor intensive broths like Tenkaippin and Nagi. I don't mind going if someone else invites me and hopefully it's a better experience.

Every bite was amazing!…read more Came here after bar hopping, and it hit the spot. There were four of us, and we ordered a bunch of skewers. Each was perfectly cooked and flavorful. Service was great, and ambiance was perfect for that late night meal. Will have to check out their other locations closer to me.

I remember going here during their grand opening ages ago, did their, back then, super cheap deal with unlimited noodle refill (even further discounted due to the special event day) and eating to the point of barely being able to sit up in the car without throwing up. I have a picture of my brother eating here in middle school with us and then later on in his early 20's. Crazy time lapse, and truly shows what a favorite this place is and it's place in the community. As with all businesses in Little Tokyo, parking can suck (not as bad as K-town, but you're either paying or super circling around). Service is super efficient, welcoming and polite, as with their other locations as well. It's not the biggest restaurant, but none of the Shinsengumis I've been to have been particularly large. With this location, from my first visit, and all the subsequent visits, I always get their Hakata ramen, firmer noodles, since the longer I eat and enjoy the food, they'll soften a bit, less soup oil and less saltiness. I get all of the toppings that it comes with and I always add in a poached egg. Love the strong pork flavor since they stew their broth for so long and the tenderness of the chashu (sometimes I order more). Prices have definitely gone up and a slightly altered upgraded version of this ramen is almost $30 if you're not careful enough. Times have changed but how good this place hasn't. There's more ramen options now than there were like 10 years ago, but Shinsengumi is always a classic.

I ordered the Salmon Ikura Bowl and my guest had the Tonkotsu Yama. My order came with miso soup and a small salad, both of which were delicious. The salad had the perfect dressing - not overwhelming but flavorful. My tuna bowl was great. The tuna was perfectly tender and looked beautiful. My guest really enjoyed his Salmon Ikura Bowl. Many other nearby restaurants had really long lines and wait times. But I doubt their food was any better than what we had here. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I developed a love of shoyu & shio ramen while in Japan and went to Hachioji on a recommendation…read morespecifically for the shoyu since it seems to be the hardest to find. We ordered a chicken karaage to start and it wasn't bad, nothing to write home about though. Since the pieces were large, it was slightly awkward to eat without any plates, and I was just catching the crumbs with my hand (didn't have the ramens at the time). Also got a yuzu beer to try and it was delicious, nice yuzu flavor with some tanginess. I had the shoyu with duck while my husband had the yama tonkotsu that came with fragrant black garlic oil. The tonkotsu is not one of those rich, milky, creamy ones and I personally like these lighter ones more. I also enjoyed the shoyu which had a pleasant depth of flavor, but it felt like it was relying too heavily on MSG for umami. Noodles came out chewy. Definitely not the best ramens I've had but are some of the better ones in LA. Our server was friendly, as were the rest of the staff. Service was quick. The restaurant decor feels straight out of Japan, an extra bit of fun. There's a $10 paid lot behind this block of buildings that's convenient for anything in this part of Little Tokyo.

I love making a stop when I visit LA…read more Stopped by a weekday lunch and it was so easy to park. The restaurant is clean and cozy and service was nice. Quick in and out lunch. Ordered the tonkatsu and tsukemen. Both delicious and the broth and flavor is rich and delicious. Next time I would probably order extra pork on the side.

PREMISE: I went to this location on a Wednesday evening at approximately 5PM for a party of two…read more WAIT TIME: We got seated right away! There was not anyone at the restaurant at the time, but people did start trickling in as more time elapsed. We got our food relatively quickly as well. FOOD: I ordered the spicy pork tsukemen ($23.45), which is their dipping noodle. The noodles are thicker than standard ramen, but in a good way! It comes with thick chashu (thick, fatty pork) slices and soft boiled eggs. If you haven't had tsukemen before, you essentially dip your noodles into the broth and then eat it that way. The broth is extremely flavorful and there are also pieces of chashu in it as well. The only critique that I have regarding this is the broth was lukewarm which made the dish taste slightly off. I've tried this dish at another branch and the broth was also lukewarm there, so I'm not sure if this is a location issue or a standard amongst all branches. Also, this dish does not really have any vegetables in this, but I also don't know if traditional tsukemen has veggies included. SERVICE: Service was quick and everyone was nice and doing their job. Didn't seem like the staff was slacking or messing around while there weren't many customers. They were very attentive to us, refilling our water immediately once they saw it was getting low, and being very attentive towards if we had any other concerns or if we needed anything else. PARKING: There technically is street parking but since it's in Little Tokyo, it's going to be very difficult to find it. There's $4-6 valet parking available nearby the location. There are a lot of people walking around though so just be safe. INTERIOR: It's not too big of a place but it's also not too small as well. It looks very well kept and clean. BATHROOM: Two gender neutral bathroom stalls that are both very clean and accessible. No issues here with them. TLDR: Overall, I thought the place was pretty good to eat at! I would definitely come back for the tsukemen (as long as the broth is warmed up until it's hot). A very good dish combined with great music (they have some great Japanese music variety) is definitely a spot worth coming to with friends !! :))
