Cute little bakery-cafe located behind a strip mall. Clean interior with aesthetic displays and yummy desserts and drinks. Friends and I were looking for some high quality macarons after coming back from a post-grad Paris trip, and Kayla's Cake turned out to be perfect for that. Here's my lengthy review down here Drinks: iced strawberry matcha, mango orange tea refresher, and dragonfruit lychee tea refresher. So amazing! They all had perfect sweetness (which you can alter) and high-quality flavor. The teas were incredibly refreshing and satisfied that fruit-tea craving, and the matcha boasted of a deep flavor and beautiful dark green color from that of a ceremonial matcha brand. The strawberry mix in the bottom also added a tangy, fruity flavor, and when asked if it's made with real strawberries, the barista said not only is it made with fresh strawberries, but it's also made in house. Another perk: unlike most cafes, Kayla's Cake does not charge extra for alternative milk options, so I chose oat milk. Phenomenal. Pastries: there's a promotion right now where for every drink, they offer a free financier, a mini French almond cake. This was delicious! It was dense yet incredibly moist with a subtle sweetness. I got the sea salt chocolate and raspberry. Would absolutely recommend! It's like a madeleine but elevated. The strawberry croissant was also delicious, with fresh strawberries offering a sweet tanginess in contrast to the thick, buttery custard, and the croissant itself was crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. We also got the brown sugar croffle, an excellent combination of a croissant and a waffle! Perfectly sweet, buttery, flakey, and delicious. Macarons: What we came for. I got the pistachio, fruity pebble, chocolate, and hazelnut Nutella. All had a crispy exterior and a chewy inside bursting with flavor. None were too sweet, and I even bought another box to share with my coworkers. 1000/10. Next time I come (which will be soon!), I'm going for the crème brûlée, which is allegedly their bestseller, and the limited Dubai chocolate macaron and a macaron ice cream sandwich! We ordered them for our nephew's 1st birthday after my sister decided on a some macarons for the dessert table, and despite not being from Southern California, this place instantly stood out. Macarons are notoriously difficult to make, so we tend to judge them harshly after having had some excellent ones from Paris, including Ladurée. These held their own in a very real way, which is not easy to do. Each macaron had a crisp exterior with a soft interior and light, balanced filling. The flavors were thoughtful, unique, and included seasonal options that made the spread feel special and elevated. While they are a premium dessert, especially the seasonal or larger varieties, they are absolutely worth it for a show stopping table. Out of the two dozen we ordered, I had five and then sent my husband back for three more. No regrets. Service was quick and our few questions were answered. My best friend was having a space themed baby shower and we were trying to figure out what to give as favors. We landed on a dessert (either a cake pop or macaron) and decided to go with the Galaxy Caramel macarons from Kayla's and I'm so glad we did! I called to order a little over a week in advance and with the size of my order (7 dozen) they recommended that I email their management to get a custom quote. I found out that they could individually wrap or package 2 macarons in favor boxes ($1 per box) and we went with the latter. I was able to pay the invoice 24 hours ahead, and when I went to pick up, the macarons were packaged in a large lovely box with cooling packs inside to ensure freshness. My event was the following day so I was able to refrigerate them, but I thought this was a nice touch. Before I left I ordered a Hibiscus Yuzu iced tea and an Oreo Cheesecake macaron, both of which were delish! The macarons were hit and everyone kept asking me where I got them! They offer a variety of flavors, there's something for everyone. The flavors are not overly sweet, however, I did think the flavors could have been a bit stronger, as they were a tad mild. I liked the presentation of the macarons behind the glass display, it was cute, however, I wish they had better packaging. I bought a few as a gift for my boyfriend's parents and they just gave them to me in a paper sandwich bag. While these macarons are good, I'm not sure I would go out of my way to come here again due to the mild flavors. It's definitely better than Sugared by Roses, but I think Honey & Butter Macarons and Ladurée are superior to Kayla's Cake. I hope they consider eco-friendly initiatives in the future, as I didn't spot any specific sustainability practices or see any mention of them on their website. In addition, the texture and freshness of each macaron made this bakery stand out amongst other places. I went with my sibling and was excited to try out their Iced Pumpkin Spiced Latte and their Iced Pumpkin Chai Latte with a side of the Crème Brûlée. The Pumpkin Chai Latte was on the sweeter side compared to their Pumpkin Spiced Latte and more on the creamier side but the only thing that I noticed was lacking was the pumpkin flavor compared to the chai tea flavor. If you don't enjoy the sweeter side of the drinks, I would highly recommend to try the Pumpkin Spiced Latte with oat milk which was my favorite since it had a greater pumpkin spiced taste and was a bit more on the non-sweet side with a great hint of creamy, smooth taste of coffee. Both drinks were delicious! The crème brûlée was brought to our table by one of the barista and the barista kindly explained that their new menu was a bit different from the traditional ones since it was frozen in the freezer and was taken out for 10 minutes to defrost before enjoying them. We were amused by this and wondered if it would taste as good or more than the traditional crème brûlée. Kayla's Cake's crème brûlée was beautifully packaged and cold to touch (it seemed frozen). On the lid of this package, it was beautifully decorated with a easy to read instruction for the best way to enjoy them. OH MY DELICIOUS, it did not disappoint and tasted as good as the best ones I have had. The portion was very generous and I was able to share it with my sibling. The vanilla crème under the top shell was very delicate, smooth and tasted as if it was made from a high quality vanilla beans. You can see those little dots to show that they used vanilla beans to make such a delicate cream. I would definitely go back to get the crème brûlée again. The services from the workers/baristas were superb and very friendly which made the experience of visiting this beautiful and cozy café a much better experience. 5/9/2023 MACARONS Got there in the afternoon and all the macaron flavors were there. Got a mixed set of 6 macarons. All the macaron shells were good. Not great, but good. Red Velvet - This did not remind me of red velvet at all. Plain macaron flavor, the filling tasted like vanilla filling. No cream cheese flavor. Strawberry Shortcake - This did not taste like strawberry shortcake at all. There was a vanilla cream and a strawberry jam in the middle. It wasn't as sweet as it should be and although the strawberry jam seemed to be house-made, it did not bring that delicious berry flavor. Underwhelming overall. Affogato - This reminded me of a cappuccino. Good coffee flavor and delicious! Earl Grey - Earl Grey fans, this is a must! Really great tea flavor! Really enjoyed this! This was my favorite! S'mores - This did not remind me of s'mores! No marshmallow, no graham cracker. It tasted like a chocolate-coated macaron. The curly chocolate shavings were fun and fun to eat. The chocolate was delicious, but the filling was plain vanilla. The bright pink and purple macarons inside were pretty. All I could taste was the texture of the macaron and the chocolate flavor. Maybe they should consider a fun name instead of s'mores macaron. Crème Brûlée - This tasted exactly like a crème brûlée! If anyone is craving it, this should satisfy your cravings! Valrhona Chocolate Cake Jar - Hugely disappointing! The flavor tasted like boxed cake mix! The cake itself was moist, but since it was stored in the fridge, the cream was hardened. So it was tough to spoon out the cake from the jar too. The cake overall was very sweet! It was not good at all! Even if I did bring the cake back to room temperature, I don't think it would have made a big difference in flavor. Sorry to say, but it tasted like it came from a cheap supermarket bakery. There was no depth in flavor, it was a one note, sugary chocolate cake. I did not finish it and unfortunately had to throw the rest out. As a huge chocolate fan and a fan of Valrhona chocolate, this was a huge letdown. What a waste of good chocolate! Rose Latte (Hot) - Got this with whole milk. This had espresso coffee in it. I assumed that it would be a tea latte, like a London Fog, but it was a coffee-based rose latte. The coffee does overpower the delicate rose flavors. I suggested that the barista to create a tea-based latte in the future. Of course with the approval of Kayla's Cake team. Even switching the coffee for a rose scented black tea with rose scented syrup with milk and foam on top. Now that would be something I'd love! Giving customers the option for coffee-based or tea-based latte would be a great option! There were other selections for drinks and even baked goods such as cookies and croffles. Didn't try them today, but think I will next time. SEATING / AMBIANCE There was indoor and outdoor seating. Inside, there are 4 bar seats and there are 3 tables for 2 people. It was very quiet and relaxing. There was no loud music, so you can probably come here with a friend for coffee and macarons and chat. CUSTOMER SERVICE Only one person working at the front and she was also the barista. She was friendly and kind. It was sweet of her to bring my rose latte to my table. LOCATION / PARKING This was a solo-standing bakery shop. No other stores or shops next to it. There is a large Kayla's Cake sign, so you should see it as soon as you turn into the street. I would go back to try the cake. The cafe was super cute it's just a bit hidden as it's not on a Main Street and the area looks little sketch. However when you are in the parking it's great! The ladies in here are always so nice and helpful and patient! I always like to ask about the new flavors of macarons they have but I normally stick to the same since they're so good. I always order the crème brûlée, Oreo, and affogato. They're always so fresh and mildly sweet and pair well with a drip coffee. I first tried this Kayla's Cake location when they first opened up for a Yelp Elite Event and whatever I had was amazing. A few years later, I finally went back and it definitely exceeded expectations. Here's what I ordered: **Carrot Cake: $9 is a little absurd for the size of the container right? Some may say so but the quality of the cake is absolutely worth every single penny. Not too sweet and just bursts with flavor. (5/5) **Pistachio Macaron: I love pistachio everything and this does not disappoint. Great flavor and easily one of the best I've ever had. (5/5) **Hibiscus Yuzu Refresher: My favorite thing about this was that it wasn't a premade drink. The tea was brewed fresh and was crafted then and there. Great hibiscus flavor and yuzu bits on the bottom of the drink. Very refreshing! (5/5) Service is always pleasant. Place is super clean. Ambiance is nice.
