Amazing sushi! We ordered through UberEats and everything arrived prepared correctly -- the fish was fresh, tasty, and everything was packaged well for delivery. Highly recommend Kawa Sushi. Next time, we'd love to try it in person at the restaurant! read more

One of the first restaurants I came to eat at after starting a new job right down the street, because I nearly forgot this place existed for a couple years since I never visit this side of town anymore. For me, if a sushi restaurant has otoro on their menu, then it passes the authenticity test lol. I may not order it every time, but at least it convinces me they aren't serving low quality fish from the cheapest source possible. And true to my assumptions, all my favorites (yellowtail, seared salmon, scallop, ama-ebi, etc.) were quite fresh, without any fishy taste. Although the prices tip towards the pricier end of the scale. I also recently tried their unagi don. It was bit over-sauced for my liking, and did not have enough char to it. #344 read more

First timer: very small place, intimate in setting. Staff was a little slow however, friendly! We ordered a lot of different items. As for their sushi and sashimi, I would rate it as Par! Not high quality besides the specialty items (Uni, salmon belly, yellowtail belly) it was fresh but expected more for a large coastal city! They do have an extensive menu! Overall- I would recommend read more

I don't know what's the high ratings are for. Yes it's local and friendly, but the service takes a very long time, the sushi was very average, and the prices decent but for small amounts of food. Best thing I had was the salad dressing on my house salad. FYI, Inside, it's very small, just a couple tables. Overall, I think it's not on par with all the amazing Asian spots around Houston, but maybe it's solid for this area if you don't want to drive another 10-15 mins further. read more

Was seated immediately when we arrived. The inside is cute. We ordered the stuffed jalapeno appetizer, burning man, queens, and Tokyo roll. The idea of the peanut butter in the stuffed jalepeno freaked me out but it ended up being great. You know the peanut butter is there but it adds a creaminess like cream cheese would. All the rolls were great. The seared salmon and crunchy garlic on the burning man added a richness to the roll and the yuzu on the Tokyo roll really added a brightness that was unexpected. Very good overall, will be back. read more

I order take out from this place all the time when I'm craving a sushi night in since it's only 12 minutes away from me and had solid reviews. Grateful to say this place was my "last meal of 2024" because I definitely enjoyed it! I usually get handrolls from here, but this time around I had a few nigiri pieces and each one came with a nice slab of fish on top. Taste-wise, everything was great. The service has been good based off the 1x i've dined in. Good casual spot to have solid sushi read more

Kawa is my go-to for sushi whenever I'm in the area. Their quality is pretty consistent. I love ordering takeout from here! I always get the seared salmon nigiri and I love how they offer foie gras nigiri because my cravings will not let me sleep at night! The shrimp tempura comes with tempura vegetables *for health* and is not bad! Portion sizes are average but quality is not bad! Overall pretty decent sushi and I would order from here again over all the other sushi joints near here. read more

I rarely review for takeout/delivery (UberEats in this case) because I'm not getting the full experience. However, the sushi was tasty! Let's get into the deets: Sunomono Salad w/ Shrimp- Very light and refreshing. Minor complaint: the cucumber was unevenly sliced. Some were paper thin, some were thick. Baked Scallop Roll- Still warm when I received it. I enjoyed the spicy kick. Loved that they didn't skimp on the scallops. Foie Gras & Scallop Sushi- This was THEE star of the order! Divine richness melting in your mouth... MMmmM. If it wasn't 7.95 per piece (UberEats listed price), I'd order much more. Life's too short to eat basic weekday dinner!! Lol. Now I definitely have to stop in and get the real deal dining experience. Can't wait! read more

Tried the ramen, vegetable fried rice and banana tempura dessert. A great meal overall! The staff was very friendly and it was pretty quiet but filled up as the evening went by. They gave me the happy hour menu which I was surprised by since it was Saturday. I didn't have a taste for sushi or any of the appetizers, but you can't beat $4 sushi, so I will be back! The ramen was pretty good! It came out super hot but it was delicious. Got a little salty but overall it was delicious. My favorite was actually the vegetable fried rice. Probably one of the best I've had in houston so far! It had broccoli, carrots, onions, egg and zucchini. Also, the picture doesn't do it justice but it's a huge portion! Since it's in the shape of a bowl, it keeps it's heat so it stayed hotter longer. I decided to top it off with the banana tempura. Beautiful presentation! And the bananas and ice cream was delicious. This was a great choice for dinner. read more

I frequent at Kawa Sushi, and it never disappoints! I went last week and got the tonkatsu ramen but swapped out the pork belly for chicken, and honestly, it was a great choice. The broth is always super flavorful, and the chicken was tender and packed with flavor. I love their shaggy dog sushi as well. The whole vibe of the place is relaxed, and it's a nice spot to just chill and enjoy a good meal, their staff is nice and super attentive. It is a smaller place so keep that in mind when going during busy times and/or going with a large group. read more

Parking in this little shopping strip around lunch time is nearly impossible. It gets packed! It's a quaint little restaurant, they don't have a lot of seating but they make it work. They're always playing cheeky song covers. The waitresses are typically very nice and quick. I've been here many times, it's a good spot for a quick lunch. I wouldn't say it's the best sushi in town but it's pretty decent. I rarely sit in the restaurant. I usually place a lunch time order and pick up is ready within 15 minutes. I'd definitely recommend this place as a lunch time staple. read more

Great sushi selection out in the 'burbs. Went with my 14y daughter. Split a rainbow roll and a shaggy dog. Edamame. I had a glass of plum wine. All were great! Located in a small strip center. Parking lot is tight with some oneway entrances- so be mindful. Small restaurant space- maybe 8 tables. But nice intimate feel to it. read more

On the outside, Kawa is super sketch. Take a step inside, however, and the sketchiness on the outside is complimented by the smell of rotting fish that will make you want to vomit. Didn't eat here for fear of severe food poisoning. If you can get past the horrid stench, you might discover that you think their food is edible. Not sure though... read more

I had a very disappointing experience. The worker displayed a nasty and rude attitude from the start and was extremely disrespectful. There was no professionalism or basic courtesy shown at all. What made it worse was being made to wait outside, even with children present, which is completely unacceptable. No one should be treated this way, especially families. I would not recommend this place based on the poor customer service alone. read more

Sushi here is so good! One of my favorite spots and their service is always good!! Their house salad is the best

Wow! Ah-mazing sushi! I rarely come to this part of town, but am so glad I tried Kawa when I was in the area! The sushi was SO incredibly fresh, the service was amazing, and everything on the menu was reasonably priced. Don't be deterred by the location...humbly situated in a Jersey Village strip mall. Our order was absolutely perfect, and their timing of bringing appetizers then the main course was impeccable. Will definitely be back again!! read more

Great place for Japanese cuisine. The unagi don and shoyu ramen were some of my favorite items from the menu. I love that they allow you to order alcoholic beverages to go, which they have a great variety of. I had the white peach-flavored Hana sake which tastes great, but they also have beers, red/white wines, and plum wines. Because they allow you to call them to place an order for delivery, I've never had an issue with my order taking longer than expected. Though the one time I ordered food at the restaurant, I didn't have to wait long. read more

The food and service was so awesome. They have great lunch menu. Great price for the quality and quantity of food

Ordered a Red Dragon roll to share, and wife and I ordered Tonkotsu Ramen and Nabeyaki Udon for mains. Enjoyed the roll. Fish was fresh and sushy-making was done well. The ramen was pretty good; noodles were proper consistency and broth tasty but thought it was a little light on additions considering the price. The udon was really mediocre. Overall not a bad lunch but we expected a little more from this place based on reviews. read more

I thoroughly loved the food, and the service was on point. My only concern is how thoroughly I was rushed out the door the minute I "finished" my food. The hostess and servers were quite eager to see me out the door the minute I seemed to finish my food, and I at no point felt welcomed. Still, good food, if you're in a hurry. read more

Pretty doesn't always mean good!!. The grade of sushi used making this couldn't have been the best. First bite was so uncomfortable and dry. I mean dry dry!! Then the spicy garlic on top has the nerve to have Doritos in it. Honestly didn't help. I love sushi but this isn't it. Then when I didn't like the roll I asked if I could talk to a manger and the girl let me know that a manager told boy comes in once in a long while so I couldn't get a discount or taken off on the roll I couldn't consume. Very bad business. Please don't waste your time or money! Hey here are better sushi places in cypress or eat at your own convenience. read more

I've been eating here for over a year now and am still in love with Kawa Sushi. In fact, I've found more things to love. Some of my favorites: Uni Snow Crab Spoon - At $6 a pop, it's pricey but I'm addicted and get it every time I come. The uni is so fresh and the ensemble makes my mouth sing. Hamachi Kama - Before you sit down, put this order in. It takes the longest time to make, but totally worth the wait to taste the sweet sweet cheek meat (it's not actually sweet, it's savory and succulent). Foie Gras Sushi $3 - If you like foie gras, you'll like this piece. Chicken hibachi fried rice $8 - This doesn't sound like anything special, but the rice is well seasoned and I can eat this as a meal. Shaggy Dog Roll $13 - This roll is named so because the strips of imitation crab that are layered cross make it look like a hairy shaggy dog. It's cute and yummy. ....| \ _ , , , - - , , _ , .../ , ` . - ' ` ' . _ \ - ; ; ; , _ ..| , a - ) ) _ . ; . ( ` - ` - ' - ' ' - - - ' ' ( _ / . _ ) - ' ( _ \ _ ) 2020 read more

I'm so glad we found this place. We are craving sushi on a trip back home from Austin and found this gem. The reviews on yelp were promising. This place is tiny and gets full fast. I think it was 4 booths, and 4 takes off 4, and 1 or 2 takes for 2. The day is fast and took our order quickly. We were also served our soups and side salad pretty quick. But our sashimi orders took quite a long time. Once our orders were served we were pleasantly surprised by the portion sizes. But we quickly realized we ordered too much food. Sashimi salad, sashimi combo, Cajun sashimi app, and combo fried rice. All came with 1 miso soup, 1 onion soup, and 1 ginger side salad. My favorite surprise was the Onion soup which was full of mushroom flavor in a clear broth with crispy onion flakes. It felt so clean and nourishing. Our greeter and server was very sweet and helpful. Parking was super easy at 8pm on Saturday night. Far from our side of town but will definitely hit this place up again when we are around. read more

My all-time favorite sushi restaurant on the north side of Houston. It's a small restaurant with a few tables but don't let a small hole in the wall fool you, this place stays busy. They have variety from ramen to hibachi dishes, fried rice and of course... sushi!, I think our family have tried it all! Sushi is already fresh and reasonable price. Ramen is always good on a cold/raining evening. My family and I will continue to support small local business such as this one! We love all their friendly staff and the food! read more

The More Sashimi You Order , The Less You Get . At First I Was Getting Nice Sized Thick Sashimi, But As I Add More They Get Thin & Smaller .

Good and fresh sushi. Great and quick customer service every time I've been there! Recommend

I've driven by this place a millon times and finally decided to try it. For some reason I had confused the pho restaurant at the end cap as this place so I kept putting it off. This restaurant is very small, and way better. Inside its homey and they now have about 8 tables of seating, along with 3 or so sushi bar spots. Their sushi bar is very tiny, and the night I visited they had 2 chefs working frantically. Like other yelpers state, they seem to manly focus on take-out service, but their dine-in service is good as well. Since it was my first time, I ordered a good selection of items, including the soon to be famous fois gras scallop sushi. Its a little pricy, but divine. I added the hamachi jalapeno app and the salmon carpaccio, both were good but the salmon dish was better. I tried the rest of raw fish as sashimi, fresh salmon, yellowtail belly, mackerel....although they cut the mackerel as thin as paper. I also tried the Tokyo roll, and it was okay but bland and I believe it needed some type of sweet sauce added to it. I still think this is a 4 star spot on a good night, but I rounded down due to: 1. Pricy during non-happy hour 2. They forgot to make my mackerel until the very end, and when it arrived it was cut thin like nigiri, not sashmi as I had ordered. 3. They were out of two items I wanted, uni and snapper yuzu. 4. Tokyo roll needs some help because its super bland. read more

On the last night of a business trip to Houston, I wanted to try another noodle place in Houston. Unfortunately that should've been the dish I avoided. I ordered a salad, spider hand roll and a nabeyaki udon. The salad and hand roll were amazing and got me excited for the udon. When my udon showed up I quickly questioned the use of broccoli, carrots and zucchini in the dish. If that wasn't bad, the egg was not soft boiled but just standard boiled egg. The broth lacked much dashi and or mirin and tasted like a generic Chinese dish. I have had nabeyaki udon in plenty of places (including Osaka and Shinjuku) and this one should've been called Chinese udon. Since it was a late dinner, I decided to finish my meal and get ready to leave. Then they offered me dessert so I went with the green tea ice cream. The good part was that it was free. The bad part is that the only thing green tea about the ice cream is the color: green. Couldn't even taste an ounce of matcha. Friendly staff that runs around quickly. This is one of the rare places I would want to come back because the hand roll was the star and I would be curious about the rest. read more

I hadn't been in a while and decided to go by. The last time I visited (Summer 2022/I think...I didn't do a review) there was still a really bad "fishy" smell when you first enter. When you smell that, it is not a good at all. We were seated quickly and were taken care of. Service was the only thing that deserved the stars Lunch special. I received a salad and miso soup. Salad was just an iceberg lettuce and (not a very good IMO) mayo type dressing. I prefer a ginger dressing with my salad. Miso/was ok. Edamame was good. Actual lunch. I ordered 2 pieces of yellow tail and octopus. I don't think they have us yellow tail. It wasn't even cream in color and tasted kinda off?!? Octopus was ok. The rolls were ok, too. The flavors were just not fresh today. I probably will not go here again only because of the constant "fishy" smell and this visit (and my last visit) that was "just ok." Sorry, guys! That's the one thing about Houston... there are so many other great places. read more

Ramen 10/10- flavor is impressive compared to other ramen places we have gone to. (Temperature hot) just how we like it! Who likes ramen warm anyways? Happy hour sushi & appetizer 3pm- 6pm We tried the Spicy Shoyu ramen, California roll, Rock& roll, crunchy shrimp roll. Fresh fresh fresh! Before leaving I realized there was a TIP jar for the sushi makers but had no cash left. I'll have to leave them some next time because they're sushi was exceptional.
