Friendly staff (and pretty too). cool spot by the beach. you really have to smell the scent to notice the place. I was simply walking by and didnt even know it was there. it had a house feel to it. couches and group seating. i like what that encourages. I asked for a side of bacon and got about 5 strips. Love the vibe! This place definitely knows how to treat their customers... As soon as we walked in the door, we were greeted with a big smile and a big welcome. The place was busy -- but the wait was not bad at all. The staff is jamming and you can tell that they enjoy what they do. Ordered the Zac's breakfast sandwich and it was deeeeeeeeeelicious! I love this place... but in my last visit the employee (pic) was taking the order was very Rude, I trying to explain what I needed and she interrupted me constantly to tell me NO.!... I was intended to exchange my free coffee with the card with the perforations and she did not accept it, it was a very bad experience. I returned another day and I saw her again so I left with out coffee.... VERY DISAPPOINTED AND SAD EXPERIENCE read more

This is my favorite place in Imperial Beach for coffee & bagels. The service is great, and personnel super friendly. I'm always customizing my drinks and they are super patient with me. Every time my drink is perfect!!! There is no way we will walk out without and açaí bowl, we love the food . The nice thing is that when we are done, we are able to look at the ocean that is steps away. read more

Hands down, best breakfast I've had in San Diego! That may be a bold statement, but let me explain: I was looking for some tasty/fresh breakfast and asked some fellow yelpers who recommended Kathy's Cafe. Indira and I rolled in about 9am and it was relatively empty. There were a few people seated eating and a couple waiting for their orders. Indira ordered the Davo $5.99 (a croissant with sausage, cheese, avacado, mustard, mayo), and a caramel macchiato. I ordered the Big Al $6.99 (basically the Davo with more sausage and no mayo), a Mocha and the Acai bowl. The croissant sandwiches were phenomenal! Literally the best, most memorable croissant sandwiches I've ever had. The acai bowl was also wonderful. Multiple fruits, granola, Greek yogurt, acai goodness. If I was going on another deployment (thank God I'm not), this would definitely be my go to spot upon my return. 100% recommend! read more

This is a cute place to grab a fast bite to eat with friends but I wouldn't go here for a family breakfast like I did. My husband and I wanted to take his family out to breakfast but no one had any ideas on where to go. They trusted me to pick a place since the last place I chose they really enjoyed. I chose Katys because it looked cute and the food seemed yummy and unique. When we got there I didn't realize how small it was. We ended up sitting out in the back patio on an old wooden picnic table by the dumpster. I was thinking "my bad" my in laws said they were fine sitting there. I was worried because they are a little on the conservative side to say the least. The menu is simple but the offerings were interesting enough to bring me here. I had the Go Go Gidget sandwich which had tuna, alfalfa sprouts, tomato and cream cheese. It was really good! I also had a blueberry muffin which was nice and fresh. We didn't stay long and chit chat because we knew that space was limited and they needed to sit other people since we were finished. The vibe is really cool ! I loved the 360 mural of the ocean in the bathroom and they have neat mermaid references adorning the shop. The one that stood out to me said something like " Mermaids welcome .....sea shells optional". It's a nice addition to Imperial Beach ! read more

Far be it for me to break the cycle of 5 Star Reviews here for Katy's Cafe! I was homesick for Imperial Beach today and wanted to go down and see what the article in Sunday's Union/Tribune newspaper was raving about. Which was-all the new businesses around the Pier Plaza area-which has really snazzied up the vicinity. I couldn't believe my eyes because since summer, the entire Ocean Lane alleyway has been redone and made into a mini-boardwalk. At every street ending at the beach, there has been added sculptures, benches, trashcans and just a general opening-up of the access to the ocean. When I pulled up to Katy's, I wished they had been around when I still lived around the corner. First-a beautiful painting of a mermaid greets you at the door as you walk in but the place is not big. It is cozy and inviting-with over-sized couches, lots of mounted surfboards and surf art, and seashell wind chimes. The back door opens up onto Ocean Lane and a covered area with tables, chairs, and umbrella's. Not even 10 steps away is the beach and some great waves! So I came in this morning and all the bagel sandwiches sounded great-particularly the Zac's-which is sausage, eggs, avocado and cheddar cheese on a everything bagel-this is a best-seller there. There are some terrific sandwiches too, but all I wanted was a great smoothie. That was no problem here-the Acai Surfer Smoothie for $5.00 fit the bill. The girl at the counter asked if I wanted spirulina in it-BUT OF COURSE! The spirulina does give the drink a nasty puke-green color but it was delicious! I also sampled some of their coffee and that was tasty and bold. If I am ever in the area around lunch time, I will make it a point to stop and try their sandwiches-which sound divine. Businesses such as Katy's Cafe will be the ones that finally revitalize and gentrify Imperial Beach to the point where people won't snicker at it and automatically think "sewage." I am so happy that Katy's Cafe is here and giving great service and making great food and drink to enjoy at the beach! read more

friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, delicious tea, wonderful coffee (caveat: i'm not a coffee drinker, but i liked what i've had!), and a short list of delicious sandwiches, all just a 15 second walk from the water! i searched for a coffee shop in the south bay when i was tired of driving all the way to north park for a weekend leisurely reading location, and have been a fan since i first walked into the quaint beachside café. i highly recommend the IB melted hearts, an open-faced bagel sandwich with cream cheese, provolone, artichoke, tomatoes and alfalfa sprouts; paired with a fresh darjeeling iced tea, it's the perfect munch after a sunday bike ride. the biscuits and gravy (weekends only) is also a lovely choice (although i probably wouldn't be able to ride a bike after eating it!). the café's decor matches the locale; paintings and sculptures of surfing scenes, waves and mermaids dot the walls and sit upon the tables. a friend visiting from texas was so fascinated by the 360° mural in the bathroom that she seemed to spend more time photographing turtles and angelfish than enjoying her coffee (i thought she was pooping). credit cards have an additional 35¢ fee. tables are for dining service; don't plan on bringing your laptop and hogging a space for hours with a single order of chai. read more

Katy's has always been one of my favorite little cafes in SD.... Although it's on the beach in IB. Great easygoing beach house living room atmosphere, very sweet and friendly staff, amazing food and stellar coffee. It's hard to appreciate just how genuine this place is until you are there. While I'm far from an expert on the subject, I felt that stopping into a place called Katy's Cafe and literally being greeted BY Katy who told you the specials of the day and took your order was unlike any experience I'd had. It doesn't hurt that it's in a fantastic location within steps of the ocean or that everyone else there was incredibly friendly. Two words: cinnamon roll. Get one. I've been to Katy's a few times for coffee, and they make a decent decaf almond milk latte. Recently I partook of their menu. The Sunrise Bagel was OK. It was cream cheese, cheddar, and an egg. Not bad, but it needed pepper, or hot sauce, or something. Maybe a flavored cream cheese? I also got a cinnamon roll to go. Very fresh! Great frosting! Not super sweet, but nice and cinnamon-y. The dough tasted very fresh, and it had a good spiral, not too thick and doughy. You can get it with or without pecans. If you order it, eat it first as they nuke it and it may be a little dry if you eat it later. Or you can take it cold. I plan to get one cold and heat it myself next time. On a side note, this place is super cute and cozy. Service is friendly, but brief due to it is usually busy on the weekday mornings. They have a lot of regulars. I want that octopus door! read more

Great breakfast joint if you're walking around imperial beach. The Zac is delicious. My advice is to keep the toothpicks in because after biting into the sandwich a couple of times my egg and sausage was slipping out of the bread. The Mexican mocha has a rich creamy flavor from the chocolate. read more

This is another great place in imperial Beach California the owner Katie passed away a year ago of cancer she taught kids how to surf did a lot for her local community and when she sold it they kept it just as it was I would definitely take a gander at coming down and getting your morning coffee or smoothie at Katie's café come in for some quick friendly service with Southern California smiles! read more

I was visiting my buddy, who lives in CV, and he suggested going here instead of Starbucks. I am a regular at Starbucks with a gold card, but I was glad we went here. I surf and stand up paddle, so I can appreciate the beach decor and surf photos on the wall. The staff was friendly and the strawberry banana smoothie was pretty decent too. Such a groovy, chill beach cafe! Unique and awesome, steps to the sand so you get the fresh salty breeze, good food and a chill environment all in one here. Great place to grab your morning joe and one of their delish breakfast or lunch dishes. The Davo is one of my favs. They also have an unusually large selection of fresh teas that they will mix and make to your liking. Awesome spot, friendly service. It is my honest opinion, that this place is the best coffee shop in South Bay. I have looked far and wide for a comfortable place with affordable breakfast that is not a Starbucks for quite some time. Every time I want to treat myself, I stop in here and catch up with all of the fun regulars while sippin' on a fresh, piping hot Americano! Did I mention the beach is right out the back door? Katy's Cafe was established in 2006 by Katy Fallon, an avid surfer and Imperial Beach local. Inspired by her passion for all things beach and surf related and coupled with her experience in the restaurant industry, Katy created an atmosphere that reflected her unique take on Imperial Beach culture. From the menu's many beach-themed items to the massive oceanic murals on the walls and doors, the cafe became a regular destination for locals and tourists alike.

The liquor store owner was also standing outside checking where people were parking which felt a little bizarre being that there's not many parking spots. I also had a matcha ginger thyme latte with oat milk which was just tasty since ginger is a rare flavor in coffee drinks. I loved it, and it was so good that I took an extra one home. Not only is the Coffee fantastic with some great original recipes but this bad ass coffee shop is women run out of her apartment "hence the name". Now I get to go sit in less traffic with a smile on my face and a warm cuppa Joe in my hand Of course I had to order two different recipes. I got the cinnamon dolce and the rosemary iced latte. They are both perfectly made with the perfect amount of coffee to sugar ratio. She also had milk alternatives for me, so I got both with oat milk!
