Growing up, all the men in my life would talk about their "guy." You know, like, "I got an insurance guy," or, "I got a guy who'll turn rotors for cheap," or even, "I know a guy who can make it look like that never happened." I think that we all knew that this meant that what they had found was someone who was really excellent at what they do, and who charged an incredibly reasonable and fair price for it. Because, here's the real problem: most of us are NOT mechanics. I know enough about how a car works to know when someone's trying to upsell me on something I don't even need. I've even had auto shops (here in Katy) tell me things that weren't even true! Most of us feel so helpless in those situations, and we're afraid we're going to get ripped off! And then, oh, just wait for the surprises they found during their "complimentary inspection." Well, if you're looking for a "guy" who can be your mechanic...stop looking. Katy Auto Care is fantastic. They're conveniently located right on the feeder road of the Katy Freeway, and all their employees have been at this for a long time. I could tell that my rear shocks needed replacing, and I had been told by another shop in town that the front struts were also leaking. The folks at KAC put my van up on the lift and brought me out to it to show me that the front was fine. They also pointed out other things that "could" be repaired, but were also very clear about which of those things were critical for the well-being of the vehicle and which weren't. I NEVER felt like I was being scared into more expenses. In fact, the overall total dropped with every revision of the bill. I ended up getting rear shocks, a rack and pinion, alignment, and an oil change, and when all was said and done it was about $250 less than their original quote. They also cleaned off my (super classy) hubcaps and put tire shine on the tires. It drove and looked better than it ever has. It has all the charm and personal decor of a small-town mechanic. The owner's pictures of his family and articles about their accomplishments plaster the walls of a lobby that is furnished in the hodge-podge style of a farm house basement. Complete with an enormous and incredibly friendly dog named Bear, the lobby is a combination of professional displays and personal accoutrement. If you'd rather have a highly-polished, slick lobby or modern architecture in your mechanic's establishment, you should know that you will be paying for it. I want a mechanic who's a good mechanic, not an interior decorator. So, if you need a good mechanic with super fair pricing and excellent, honest work...I've got a guy. read more

Came here during lunch break today. A few days ago, my driver side head light was out and I just needed a quick fix. I did not think it would be a big deal but have been busy at work so I took it to a Honda dealer to see if they could do it really quick or by the end of the day. They told me I would have to change out the entire driver side light unit and it would be $185 JUST for the part... no way that was right... HONDA DEALERSHIP told me this... I found Katy Auto Care on Yelp and decided to give them a try. I called ahead, talked to a lady (very nice), told her what happened at the dealership, and took my car there during lunch break. It took roughly 1 minute and 37 seconds for the mechanic to come out, pop open my hood, take out the old light, and replace it with a new one... He even said, "that's easy man, no worries..."...... Yeah... change out whole unit my @$$. I went back inside to pay the lady and she just charged me for the light; $10.00... she said, "don't worry about the labor, just come back when you need anything else". Will do mam'... Will do. We came here because my son's car was overheating. Danny said it was due to a faulty thermostat. However when we got the car back it was still overheating. We took it back just to be told there was nothing wrong with the car. We ended up taking it to Christian Brothers who started working on the car early this morning and already they are testing the see if it is a cracked gasket. I will never recommend this place. I guess my review was removed. Just to reiterate, I was charged 650 bucks to fix a thermostat and water pump about 2 years ago. (My car was shutting off at random, overheating and purging coolant). I brought it back immediately the next day when it still seemed off and the ac was blowing hot. I was mansplained by the mechanic that it was just a small ac leak and he'd charge it as a courtesy (normally 300, he had the audacity to tell me). I argued that the ac was blowing fine before all the other issues started, he claimed it was a coincidence... Wouldn't you know it, a couple weeks later a large cloud of smoke came out of my tailpipe and it completely stopped working and I towed it to the dealership. It was a busted head gasket, all the signs were very clear they said, including the ac blowing hot air. It had an internal coolant leak. Whole engine was scrap metal. I ended up taking it to another shop to replace the engine for another 2800. I would not recommend this shop at all. To this day, I'm having to make repair after repair to fix all the damage done. read more

It's difficult to find an honest mechanics but we are so glad to have found one in Katy. Another shop had told us that we urgently needed a wheel realignment when we went in for the oil change. Katy Auto Care inspected and said that our wheels were well aligned except one wheel that was 0.1 off. They ended up charging us only half the price for a realignment. My daughter's 2014 Subaru had developed a severe vibration and after unsatisfactory assessments by the dealer and another independent shop, I decided to try Katy Auto Care due its sterling online reviews. It was the only place that put the car on a rack and took a drive in it to evaluate and replicate the problem for free before diagnosing. They replaced both front control arms and did an alignment which has solved the problem. And at a cost that was signifucantly less than quoted by the other shops.
