I'm in love with fish curry. How have I never tried it before to this day. The batter was crispy and the fish itself was tender and flaky, all made better by the hot curry: in terms of both spice and temperature. I opted for the spicy and it really was spicy! I think they drizzle on a hot oil at the end so it's not incorporated throughout but I loved it any way. It's a new entree and it's definitely worth ordering. I got a large (which came with 6) and split it. We split the rosemary katsu sando which is one of their popular items but it wasn't my favorite because the berry katsu sauce threw me off. I don't think the sweetness from fruit really compliments the katsu so I would pass on this. I also tried a bite of the original katsu sandwich with beef and it was such an interesting experience. I think it's worth trying but maybe with pork because the beef was a normal patty encased in batter. The finale of the meal was the strawberry sando which tends to be out of stock often from how popular it is so we were lucky to snag one. The cream was delicious and oozed out with every bite because it was loaded. The strawberries in the front were huge though so it was hard to take a bite sometimes. I thought these were going to be the only strawberries but I'm glad they snuck smaller strawberries in the back. We went Friday night for dinner and it was pretty packed since the seating area isn't that large. I've been to the Artesia/Cerritos location and thought it was great, so I was definitely excited to see one open up in Brea. We opted to try one of the tofu pockets and one of their sandwiches. We tried two of the Yubu tofu pockets: spicy cali and spicy tuna. The spicy tuna was probably our favorite one. The tofu pockets are on the sweet side so the savoriness of the fish really balanced it out. We also tried the tempura mushrooms. They were super hot and juicy. Came here with my wife on a Wednesday night for a casual little date night. We both ordered the Chicken Katsu plate, which came with rice and salad, plus the sauce on the side. I opted to remove the scoop of mac salad. It's a small spot where you order up front and then they bring it out to you. Super chill vibe. I grabbed a Yuzu bottled drink which I really liked, refreshing and just the right amount of sweet. My wife went with a fountain drink and got the lemon berry açaí flavor, which she loved. After we sat down, they brought everything out pretty quickly and even gave us sesame seeds to grind up and mix into the katsu sauce, which was a cool little touch. I really want to try the mushroom but a cheat is a cheat no matter what day it is. The chicken katsu was pretty well worth breaking the vegetarian diet for. Texture wise and mouth feel it's on point. Not overly greasy or underdone. The only thing that's missing is some marinate or flavor within the meat. It's cooked perfectly, including the egg & onion scramble. The curry tastes exactly like the cubed curry roux one can easily make at home with no added touches or ingredients. It's just sad. They prep everything into a big box with all the presentation (why use so much plastic within a paper box?) but the food itself was just lacking in flavor and texture. Don't get the rice cakes and sausage appetizer, it was inedible and drenched in a tart, overly sweet version of teriyaki sauce with barely like 5 pieces of sausage which for 10 dollars is outrageous. The sando was very good, the bread was soft and the fries were hot and crispy. The cabbage and tomato inside helped to break up the oiliness of the katsu. The beef katsu, however, was quite tough and chewy, and the noodles were a little bit bland, though they had a nice texture. Would probably stick with the sandos vs. the noodles. It's only soft opening and I've been here three times already. Free kimchi mandu for soft opening special with the purchase of any entree except the sando. The food is pretty good.
