The girl at the counter was very polite, took my order, and they bring your food to the table when dining in. The place is small, but there are a few tables if choosing to dine in. Glad to see that Katsu Bar has expanded beyond their Cerritos location to this one in Brea. I really liked their Kale salad but that seems to have been lost during menu updates. I also really liked the Kimino drinks with different fruit flavors, where Yuzu is clearly the best. For today's visit I was eating in with a party of 3. There were 6-8 tables inside and some benches outside but no official seating. Food was ordered and came out within 10 minutes. The Dill Egg Salad Sando was light, not too much dill. Good portion size and also good as a leftover since it is already cold. The Yubu with Bulgogi was solid, sweet tasting beef, good portion of protein and rice and wrap. Menu is very simple and have daily Monday to Friday specials. Female cashier was helpful on answering questions for first timers. Order fried calamari appetizer and pork katsu curry udon. You can make it extra spicy for extra 50 cents charge. Sodas are fountain. Female cashier who help me left for the day and another one came in. Fried calamari appetizer is lightly fried and not too greasy and it comes with ranch I guess. The curry udon was the reason I chose to give this place a try. Let's be honest: I expect something more hearty but at least what you saw on the pictures is what you get. Extra spicy is not spicy if you are spicy lover. Overall, this is ok. I was excited to see a Katsu Bar had opened up in Brea and this location did not disappoint. Orders are placed at the kiosk at the counter. I decided to grab two Rosemary Katsu Sandos - one pork and the other chicken, both with their berry katsu sauce. Each order also comes with an order of waffle fries ($13 each). It did take a bit longer than anticipated for our food to come out, about 20 minutes, but I loved how crispy the fries were and how they kept crispy for at least 30 minutes after we received our order. Each sando came with 3 pieces with each of the cutlets sandwiched between their soft milk bread. The pork was overall delicious, although a few of the bites I had at the edge were pretty tough and chewy. Service was standard, but pretty much non-existent as we had placed our order at the kiosk so the only interaction we had with the individual working at the front was when she called my name for the order. The pork katsu had a very light and well-prepared crispy panko crust. The mild curry on top has a bit of red sauce that adds to the spiciness, but you can select your spice level. (I actually prefer no spice.) As for the sandwich, it was like a pairing of a delicious sweet berry jam with savory katsu - unique, but better as a lunch than dinner option. My main criticism would be the presentation of the rice and macaroni salad, which looked like it was from the bottom of the rice cooker and that the half of the katsu gets really soggy in the curry. There were two girls that helped me out on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at approximately 1410 hours and they were both very pleasant. Prices are very fair and you get more than what you pay for. Quality is top notch and every ingredient is fresh. The wait time is a little long but well worth every single minute. It's great to see a good katsu joint in Brea. I ordered a curry katsu plate which consists of a choice of protein (chicken, pork, beef, or mushroom) with Japanese curry, rice, green salad, macaroni salad, and radish. My pork katsu had a thin panko crust; delicate but quite tasty. The pork was average quality, tender but somewhat tasteless. I loved the curry (I got original rather than spicy) and used it to liven up both the tonkatsu and the rice. I wish I had more curry than what was on the plate and if I come back I'll see about getting an extra side of it and hope they don't charge a ridiculous amount. The green salad was bright and fresh while the macaroni and radish were both good. They have Stubborn Soda for their fountain drinks so I got a black cherry soda which I liked. I'm in love with fish curry. How have I never tried it before to this day. The batter was crispy and the fish itself was tender and flaky, all made better by the hot curry: in terms of both spice and temperature. I opted for the spicy and it really was spicy! I think they drizzle on a hot oil at the end so it's not incorporated throughout but I loved it any way. It's a new entree and it's definitely worth ordering. I got a large (which came with 6) and split it. We split the rosemary katsu sando which is one of their popular items but it wasn't my favorite because the berry katsu sauce threw me off. I don't think the sweetness from fruit really compliments the katsu so I would pass on this. I also tried a bite of the original katsu sandwich with beef and it was such an interesting experience. I think it's worth trying but maybe with pork because the beef was a normal patty encased in batter. The finale of the meal was the strawberry sando which tends to be out of stock often from how popular it is so we were lucky to snag one. The cream was delicious and oozed out with every bite because it was loaded. The strawberries in the front were huge though so it was hard to take a bite sometimes. I thought these were going to be the only strawberries but I'm glad they snuck smaller strawberries in the back. We went Friday night for dinner and it was pretty packed since the seating area isn't that large.
