I pass this place to work out and decided to stop after seeing 4 stars. I ordered Simple breakfast fare that came with some amazing apple French toast. My rating isn't for the food but for the lady at the register who was racist. When I walked in she said "can I help you?" For other customers, she said "how many?" I watched others, mostly older customers (who were regulars because she greeted them by name) come in with the same friendly greeting because she sat me in front of the register. We had been here last year and loved it, so we were looking forward to a chance to visit again. We came in early on a cold morning and got one of the last booths available. (There is a mix of booths and tables.) Our waitress (Mary) brought us water and two small blueberry muffins before we ordered. The muffins were filled with lots of blueberry and tasted terrific! I ordered hot chocolate. When Mary asked if I wanted whipped cream, I said "Lots."...I did not know what that comment would result in...Mary brought me a cup of hot chocolate FILLED with whipped cream (!!) and a small pot of hot chocolate that I could add to my cup of whipped cream! (I've never experienced that before!) (That is just an example of the personal and attentive service that you will get here!) There we lots of yummy-looking unique items on the menu. We ordered the "Grand Marnier Peach Crepes" and a side of ham. The crepes were served in a hot skillet placed on a doily on a large plate. They were delicious! The side of ham filled the plate it was served on! It was huge! We look forward to our next visit to the area, so we can eat at Katie's again. (The one thing I would like to see here is home-made corned beef hash. They use corned beef out of a can. I'm sure if they made their own corned beef hash it would be wonderful!...) read more

This is hands down my favorite breakfast spot in the suburbs. I love that it's a family owned restaurant and that they use fresh ingredients. My favorite dish is the skirt steak and eggs, which is only $14.99! The steak is probably a foot long and is marinated very well. The steak is so juicy and tender when you bite into it. It took a while for me to get here, because it used to be David's Bistro, owned by my neighbor, but OMG I love this place. The ONLY things I can think of to say negatively about this place is that you're sometimes in for a wait (15-30 minutes in the suburbs is quite a bit... but compared to comparable places in the city it's pretty decent) and also that they aren't open all the time! Double-check the time before attempting this place. My aunt, who hates all food except apples and eggs, loves going to this place. I have to force myself to try something new on the menu each time (sometimes I fail) because anything I eat here is so delicious I just want to have it again. My favorite is the skirt steak and eggs. I don't know what they marinate it in -- pure sugar? -- but it's pretty great. But SWEET more than savory, so prepare yourself for that. I've also had their crepes and that diabetic's nightmare of a cinnamon roll french toast concoction and those were amazing too. The space is rather nice. A lot of people come here after church, which is their busiest time, so watch out. The waitresses are friendly, but busy, so they might talk to you, or they might rush off as soon as you finish your order. But each time I've gone there, they've made sure to keep me happy. I'm SO glad DP has an actual brunch option that doesn't include IHOP or Dunkin Donuts, can you tell? This is one of the few places that makes DP less of a hell-hole to live in. read more

I've been enjoying Katie's Kitchen since it opened and go as frequently as possible! Every thing on the breakfast menu is great, but their weekend/weekday specials menus usually have such interesting and mouth-watering items that I most often order off of those menus and not from the regular menu. The only reason why I am not giving a total of 5 stars is because I'm not as fond of the lunches that I've had there, but the soups are fantastic. Also, I've never had dinner there, so I cannot comment on that. Besides the great breakfast food, the coffee is good, the waitstaff and hosts are friendly and professional and the place is clean. What more could you ask for? Lastly, I have had a few occasions where I've been with a large party and was accommodated to the best of their ability. You may want to call ahead and let them know, especially if it's over 6 people and they'll be honest about your chances of being seated. I like that kind of truth with customers. read more

Went to Katies Kitchen last weekend. Great place, awesome food. It has a different and delicious menu. I had the steak omelette which was great. A friend had eggs with sweet potato fries placed around the eggs and another person had Eggs Benedict with home made potato chip type things. All were excellent. We got there around 8:15 am and had no problem getting in, but by 9:30 there was a line to get in and no parking spaces left. I must mention something but I won't dock the restaurant any stars. Our young waitress must have been new and not trained properly. She had a bad habit of picking up the glasses from the top using her fingers and palm of her hand. So she had her grimy fingers and palm of her hand contaminating the glasses where the customers put their lips. She did this for every single coffee mug and every single water glass for every single table she took care of. Pretty gross. read more

My sisters and I have been going to Katies on Sundays once a month for some time. The wait staff has always been amazing and the food wonderful. Unfortunately this past visit, the hostess/owner quoted policy when I asked to be seated and have a cup of coffee while waiting for my sister to arrive within 10 minutes. After a recommendation from my wife's co-worker, we went here for breakfast on a Sunday early afternoon. We got there at 1:15 and closing time was 2 PM. We were greeted with "Hi there, we're closing at 2 PM". We immediately felt like we were being rushed and like they did not want to be there anymore. We asked for coffee and received that right away. Unfortunately, the coffee was luke warm and not very good. I looked for sugar to add some taste to the coffee but there was no sugar on the table. The waitress said they had started cleaning up and already packed the sugar away. She said she could get some from the back. Our son ordered chocolate milk and it tasted old. We told the waitress and she brought out another glass and said it expires on the 25th; which is today. She basically admitted the milk was expiring and had no issue with serving it. The next glass tasted the same so we gave it back. It was most likely from the same jug of milk. The food came out and that was average. I had the meat lovers skillet and it was a bit greasy. The egg over easy was a bit over cooked and did not have much yolk. My son asked for butter and jelly for his toast. We realized they had packed that away as well because none of the tables had butter or jelly; or sugar for that matter. I asked the waitress with a bit of sarcasm if they had butter and jelly in the restaurant. She recognized my sarcasm and said with a bit of her own sarcasm "yes they have butter and jelly". I told the waitress that it is not appropriate to greet people with what time the restaurant closes. She said she was told to say that by the old lady at the front counter. I believe the old lady is the owner. While we don't go to restaurants to make friends with the staff and owner, being made to feel unwelcome doesn't work for me. The food wasn't good enough to compensate for the bad service and being made to feel unwelcome. We arrived 45 minutes before closing. 45 minutes should be plenty of time to order, eat and leave. They said the same thing to another party of 3 who came in after us so I know it wasn't just for us. Needless to say, it does not look like we will be going back there again. We wouldn't want to burden them with an additional meal. read more

The corned beef hash and eggs are delicous and their burgers are some of the best around. A lot of unique breakfast and lunch items. On Friday's they reopen from 5-9 for dinner. The Food: Had the Philly Omelet today with diced red potatoes and hollandaise sauce. It was cooked well. The steak pieces in it were a little too big, slightly over cooked, and a little bland. The diced red potatoes were excellent. Seasoned deliciously and soft with a little crunch. Hollandaise sauce was flavorful but not overpowering. The coffee fell rather short of impressive and seemed like it had been sitting in the pot all morning. The Service: Good service was a plus here. A friendly hostess seated us immediately and the server was at the table in seconds. The food came out quick and the server was checking in frequently to see that everything was okay. The Price: Prices were nothing special. For a $10 omelet you get a decent amount of food. I expected something a little more impressive for that price tag though. Overall: A good experience thanks to the friendly staff and quick service. Food was good but nothing that really stood out. Not an every Sunday kind of breakfast joint but if you're looking to switch things up give Katie's Kitchen a shot. read more
